The Body Switch

Author\'s Note: As promised Chapter 5 A bit early! ^_^ I finally got over the writers block. Shu is a bit OOC in the end but I needed to tweak him just a bit. He\'s lived in Eiri\'s body for six weeks, some of Eiri\'s traits have rubbed off.

Chapter 5
A Decision

Three weeks had passed since the ‘incident’. Not a word had been spoken about it, Eiri spending most of his time hiding in his office unless it was necessary that he leave it. Every time he caught sight of Shuichi he noticed that his lover seemed annoyingly cheerful, more so than normal. As if he was trying to make up for something.

Eiri sighed softly, the only noise in the room the sound of the rhythmic clicking as he rapidly caught up the novel he was writing. He had had an interesting conversation with his editor not a week after he came back home. He had managed, through Shuichi explain away the problems from the last phone call, and get everything back on track. He even managed to stall any personal meetings for the next month, between trying to catch up on the novel and taking care of “Shuichi”. It had gone well; the conversation after with Shu had been less than productive, Eiri storming, as much as he could in a wheelchair, into his office.

Things had fallen into a pattern then; Eiri had been hiding in his office steadily, doing his best to avoid Shu and his too hopeful looks. When he couldn’t ignore his lover he growled constantly, but being around Shu made that easily. It didn’t matter what Shu did, he would inevitably mess it up. If he made supper he would burn something. If he tried to help Eiri into the bathroom he would smash his cast encased leg against the wall or the tub. Shuichi was a well meaning disaster.

But things should be a bit better now. The cast had been taken off and although he had to use a cane it was better than the wheelchair. Getting out of the car, he limped up to the door, grumbling quietly about traffic and doctors and life in general. The past six weeks wearing thin. Unlocking the door he headed to the apartment ignoring Shu as he had since the hospital, going to his office and slamming the door the minute he was in their apartment.

Dropping the keys on the table in the living room, Shu sat back on the couch, his eyes shut tight against the stinging rush of hot tears. The past three weeks had been the harder than when Eiri had been in the hospital. Eiri had been distant, angry, and short tempered, about even the smallest things. Shuichi had tried to keep a cheerful attitude; Eiri was not only dealing with being dependent on others he had to deal with being in someone else’s body. But damn it so did Shu. He had his own problems as well; he was still expected work even if it was from home. He had to keep the stress down so he didn’t aggravate Eiri’s ulcer, otherwise he wouldn’t hear the end of it from both Eiri and Tohma. He was sick and fucking tired but he had to be the cheerful one, otherwise the apartment would have been choked with animosity before now. He wanted his Eiri back.
Grabbing the remote from the cushion beside him he turned on the TV, flipping channels to a random music station, the VJ nattering about some American rock group. Shu laid down paying more attention to the steady clicking that came from the office. The video began the words capturing his attention.

The tears came back in a hot rush, Shu burying his face into the pillow as he tried to quiet his sobs. Sitting up suddenly he looked at the office door, he didn’t want to lose his lover, not over this. It wasn’t right, they’d survived so much, and they could survive this. The WOULD.

Getting up he walked over to the office door, opening it and walking into the room.

“I told you not to bother me baka.” Eiri growled as he peered at the last paragraph he’d been writing.

“Get ready, we’re going out.” Shu said with quiet determination.

“No baka we’re not going out you’re going to leave the room and I’m going to finish this chapter.” Eiri said not bothering to look up.

Walking over Shu closed the laptop, “Eiri, we’re going out. Now I suggest you get your ass into the bedroom and change into something nice, because in twenty minutes I’m taking you on a date whether you like it or not.” He said unhooking the laptop and taking it with him, “I hope you saved that, you’re not getting your laptop back until the date is over.”
