The Masked Mage Enters the Battle -- 06/12/05

Out of nowhere, Sailor Pluto appeared next to him, �Tuxedo Mask, you are needed in the fight, I will protect her.� He looked up at the oldest Scout, then to where the fight was taking place. The other eight Scouts, he could see, needed to regroup themselves and needed a distraction to do so. Looking back to Pluto, he nodded, and took off to help the others.

He didn�t see the flash as Pluto and Billie disappeared. He was focused on the fact that Sailor Moon was just thrown by the monster, into a small group of trees, and that she must have taken out a couple of them with her body, because he saw them fall. Please, My Love, be alright! he thought, shaking the image of her body, broken, out of his head.

He had started in that direction, to go to her, when he heard somebody scream. When he looked, he saw that the monster now had Sailor Pluto in it�s grasp. Pluto!? When he looked to where he left her and Billie, he saw that there was nobody there. ::What happened to Billie?::

Then, from behind him, he heard an almost familiar voice, �Billie is safe. You go help the other Scouts, I�ll get Sailor Moon.�

He spun to the voice and was surprised by the woman before him. He took in her appearance, he couldn�t quite place her, but she seemed familiar, like an old friend that you hadn�t seen since you were young children. The black pants, boots, jacket and gloves; the black and purple cape; the purple top and mask, it all seemed familiar to him. Even though he couldn�t see more of the sword than the hilt, he somehow knew what it would look like.

Not totally sure if he could trust her, he asked, �Who are you?�

The Masked Mage saw that she was back in the park when wasn�t blinded by the light anymore. In front of her, she saw her friends were still in battle with the monster that had grabbed here earlier. I�ve heard that payback�s a bitch, let�s see if it holds true! she thought as she ran forward to help.

She saw Sailor Moon be thrown into a small group of trees and a couple of the trees go down. Ouch! That�s really gotta hurt, she couldn�t help but wince, as she stopped, not sure where she was needed first.

She then saw Tuxedo Mask start in Sailor Moon�s direction, only to stop when they heard a scream. They both looked and saw that Sailor Pluto was in serious trouble. That�s what she meant when she said that she was already here!

She ran up to stand behind Tuxedo Mask, when in her head, she heard his voice, ::What happened to Billie?:: he was looking to the where she had been lying, not to long ago to him, an uncountable amount of time to her.

�Billie is safe,� she answered aloud. �You go help the other Scouts, I�ll get Sailor Moon.�

He spun around and looked at her, surprised. He took in her appearance. �Who are you?� he asked, she could hear the suspicion in his voice.

�I am a friend, sent by Queen Serenity of the Moon Kingdom during the Silver Millennium to help protect Sailor Moon. Any further questions can wait until after the battle, unless you wish to endanger all of their lives.�

He knew who she was talking about without her saying more. He nodded his head, and ran to aid the girls in the fight.

Don�t worry Darien, I�ll make sure that Serena is safe!

The Masked Mage ran in Sailor Moon�s direction. When she entered the group of trees, she saw Sailor Moon, sitting unconscious against a tree that was broken in two, the top part of the tree angled down over her. Her right shoulder was trapped in the sharp angle the trunk made around it. If she were to try to move from that spot on her own, the tree could come down on her.

In front of Sailor Moon was the remains of another tree. Obviously the leader of the Scouts had gone through it before hitting the second. Please, Princess, be alright.

The Masked Mage ran up to Sailor Moon and knelt on the girl�s left side. She could see that the girl was still breathing and that there was no blood on her or on the ground. She removed a glove and felt the other girl�s pulse. It was steady and strong. She seems fine, but I wish I knew about how to tell internally. Well, I�d better try to wake her, I do know that if she has a concussion that sleeping would not be good, she thought as she pulled her glove back on.

Shaking the younger woman�s shoulder gently, The Mask Mage said, �Sailor Moon, wake up. You�ve got to move from where you�re at. It�s not safe.� She was worried that the tree may come down off of the stump and land on the heroine, injuring her further.

Sailor Moon mumbled something, but refused to be awoken. The Masked Mage tried again. �Come on, your friends need your help. Wake up Princess.�

Sailor Moon�s eyes snapped open as she looked at the tree that was above and in front of her. Princess? Who was that? None of the girls called her �Princess� when she was Sailor Moon, and neither did Darien. She tried to move her head to look around and felt a sharp pain shoot through her shoulder. She hissed as she closed her eyes to try to block out the pain.

�Sailor Moon? Are you alright?�

Nodding, Sailor Moon opened her left eye and turned it in the direction of the voice. What she saw made her think of a feminine Tuxedo Mask. �Who are you?�

�I�m The Masked Mage. Queen Serenity from the Moon Kingdom has sent me to help you.�

�How do you know about Queen Serenity?� It had been awhile since somebody had been sent by her mother to help. Lately it had been her future self sending aide back to her.

�We�ll talk about that later. First, I want to get you out of this safely,� The Masked Mage promised.

Sailor Moon nodded again, �Alright, but you owe me some answers.�

�You and Tuxedo Mask. Not to mention the others, by the time this night is through.� The Masked Mage looked at Sailor Moon when she heard the younger woman laugh lightly, a small smile on her lips. ::Why is it that you are so willing to trust me right off the bat, I could be an enemy in disguise?::

�Queen Serenity would never send somebody to help, if they couldn�t be trusted. Besides, if you were here to destroy me, what better opportunity than while I was unconscious?�

The Masked Mage nodded her head without realizing that Sailor Moon had answered a question that she had not voiced. �Do you hurt anywhere?�

�Just my shoulder. It�s pinned in the tree.�

�I didn�t see that when I first found you, Princess,� The Masked Mage said, the sarcasm was dripping off of her words, as she moved around to Sailor Moon�s right side to examine the situation closer.

�Why do you call me that?�

�What?�

�Princess.�

�Isn�t that who you are, Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom?�

�Yes and no. I used to be, and I may be again.�

�So you don�t want me to call you that?�

�I don�t know. A lot of the enemies don�t know the connection...�

�So, it�d be safer for you if I don�t. Don�t worry, I�ll try not to do it anymore. Just remember though that old habits die hard.� Sailor Moon gave her a confused look. �You�ll understand later.�

The Masked Mage lightly touched Sailor Moon�s shoulder and the young lady grimaced with the pain that shot through it. �Don�t move anymore if you can help it. This tree is not very stable and I don�t want it falling on you anymore than it already has.�

�And you think that I do?� Sailor Moon asked. �This is no picnic for me either you know.�

�Relax, I understand. Just give me a moment to figure something out.� The tree is too large to lift, even if everybody else was here. Too large to roll off of her, besides it could slip and fall onto her. The Masked Mage lightly put her hands on the tree above Sailor Moon�s shoulder. If there were just someway that I could ensure that it would stay frozen in place! She then felt cold shivers run down her arms and out her palms. She watched in amazement as ice covered the tree , starting from where her hands were placed.

Sailor Moon shivered when she felt something cold against her shoulder. She turned her eyes to the tree and saw that it was now covered in ice, from just in front of her to beyond her peripheral vision.

The Masked Mage watched as the ice spread along the tree. Just the tree and not Sailor moon! I just need it to stay where it is. Easy Billie, don�t push it too hard, let it flow . She knew that the ice had come from her, she just wasn�t sure how she was doing it. She watched it start to creep down the stump and stopped.

Sailor Moon was starting to get nervous, �Masked Mage, What going on?!�

�Relax Sailor Moon. Everything in under control,� the other female answered as she came around to Sailor Moon�s left side once more. �Give me your hand. Together we should be able to pull you out of there.�

Sailor Moon looked at the hand that was offered to her, suddenly unsure of the person in front of her.

�Sailor Moon, please. The other�s need your help. They�re all in danger, even Tuxedo Mask.� At the other woman�s continued hesitation, The Masked Mage said, �You had said it yourself earlier, if I were here to harm you, when better than when you were unconscious.� She reached further and grabbed Sailor Moon�s wrist.

Sailor Moon wrapped her fingers around The Masked Mage�s wrist in response. Sailor Moon dipped her shoulder down and together, they pulled the young heroine free.

�Thank-you, Masked Mage.�

�Don�t worry about it, are you alright?�

�Fine.�

�Then let�s get out asses in gear and go to help the other�s before it�s too late!�

Sailor Moon nodded her head in agreement and they took off at a full run to where the fight was happening.

When Sailor Moon and The Masked mage entered the area where the fight was taking place, The Masked Mage saw that Sailor Pluto had been released, but was laying unconscious not too far away.

�What happened?� Sailor Moon shouted to Sailor Jupiter, who was the closest, over the noise of the fight.

Jupiter looked to them and then did a double-take when she saw that Sailor Moon was not alone. Though shocked, she never let her guard down and maintained her battle ready stance.

The Masked Mage saw that Jupiter was about to start asking questions. She stopped them before they even started. �I am a friend. Leave any other questions to after the fight, alright?� She saw the image of Sailor Jupiter waver a bit and she saw the true identity of the scout. So Lita is Sailor Jupiter.

Jupiter nodded her head. She would trust the stranger, for now. After all Sailor Moon trusted her and she was usually a good judge of character. Besides, it sounds as if she plans to stick around for a while, if she plans to answer questions later.

�That bastard had Pluto. Tuxedo Mask came in time to distract it enough for Mars to get an attack in. As a result the thing dropped Pluto. When Tuxedo Mask went to catch her, it batted him aside.� As Jupiter finished she pointed over to where Tuxedo Mask laid on the ground and like Pluto, he was unconscious. Standing near him was Sailor Mercury, scanning him with her computer and studying the results. Sailors Mars and Neptune protected them both.

No! Darien! Sailor Moon thought to herself. ::Darien had better not be hurt you bastard! ::The Masked Mage heard in her head.

::Everything will be fine Princess,:: The Masked Mage thought back. ::Let�s get that Asshole before it hurts any more of our friends!::

Our friends!? Sailor Moon thought. Just who is this woman!? Where did she come from?

The Masked Mage looked at the scene in front of her. Sailors Saturn, Venus and Uranus were trying to fight their way past the monster to get to Pluto, but the were being blocked and couldn�t pass.

�Sailor Moon, you go see to Tuxedo Mask. Sailor Jupiter and I will help Sailor Pluto,� The Masked Mage said.

Sailor Moon nodded and took off in the direction of her lover without further thought, she knew Pluto was in good hands.

�How are we going to help Pluto?� Jupiter asked as she followed the other woman in the direction of their fallen colleague.

�Simple, you�re going to get her out of there while I distract the monster.�

�Why should I trust you to do that?�

�Jupiter, Queen Serenity sent me to help you guys. I knew all of you in the Silver Millennium. Pluto aided in my being here. You all are my friends, and all I want is for you all to be safe!�

Queen Serenity !? �Alright, let�s get Pluto out of there!� Jupiter still wasn�t completely sure about her, but if she was sent by Queen Serenity as she claimed, she�d truly be an ally and they needed those right now. �What exactly do you have planned?�

�Honestly? Nothing, yet.� The Masked Mage stopped and looked Jupiter in the eye and said, �This is all new to me. I�m just making this up as I go along. My main concern is that Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask are safe, in that order. Then there is the safety of the rest of you girls, then the world, and lastly myself.� Taking a large breath trying to hide her nervousness and calm herself, she continued, �Let�s get Pluto to safety. Then defeat that Asshole, alright?�

Jupiter just nodded, not sure what to say. For the second time in the past month, she had the feeling as if she, long ago, knew someone. Shrugging the feeling aside for now, she ran forward to catch up with The Masked Mage who was already running towards Pluto.

They stopped only when they reached the fallen Scout. They did a quick check to make sure that she could safely be moved. The Masked Mage was surprised at how minor the injuries that the other woman had sustained, besides her being unconscious compared to what they should have been.

The Masked Mage helped Jupiter lift Pluto onto her back, piggy-back style.

�OK?� she asked Jupiter. When the girl nodded, she continued, �Good. Once we get moving, don�t stop until you get her to Mercury, no matter what! Get it?�

Jupiter was about to argue when she realized that she couldn�t fight while carrying Pluto and it wouldn�t be safe to put her down. �Got it!�

�Good!� The Masked Mage did a quick check of their surroundings and decided that they should head back the same way they came. �Follow me, but remember, if I stop, you keep going.�

�Right,� Jupiter answered as she followed the other woman.

Thank you for not arguing. This is hard enough to get used to!

The Masked Mage stopped running when a tentacle swung down and hit the ground in front of them. Jupiter pause long enough to see her draw her sword and then was off in a slightly different direction. Carrying Pluto to safety was priority. Once Pluto was with the others, she planned to return to fight beside the other woman.

The Masked Mage led Sailor Jupiter around the monster, back to where there would be safety in the fact that they would be all together. When a tentacle hit the ground in front of her, she knew that their luck had run out, that they had been seen. She stopped running and prepared herself to face the monster.

As she drew her sword, she saw out of the corner of her eye, Jupiter pause for a moment then take off again in a slightly differently path, taking her charge to safety.

Knowing that she had to keep the monster�s attention on herself, she bent down and picked up a rock that fit into her palm. Switching her sword to her left hand and the rock to her right. She then threw the rock at the creature before her.

The rock connected with it�s targets and the whole creature turned to her. �Shit!� I didn�t want all of your attention asshole! Just enough of it for Lita to get Trisha to safety.

She quickly switched the sword back to her right hand and dropped into a fighting stance. She didn�t know how she knew what to do, it just seemed second nature.

She didn�t move to attack the monster, instead she let it come to her.

Sailor Moon breathed a sigh of relief when Tuxedo Mask opened his eyes and sat up. Once he was standing, he looked at her and smirked. �For a plant, that thing hits hard! Be careful girls!�

�You think that we want to end up like you and Pluto, here?� Jupiter�s voice asked from behind them.

The small group spun towards her and saw that she was carrying Pluto on her back. Mars and Neptune helped her get Pluto to the ground.

While Mercury began to scan Pluto with her computer, Sailor Moon turned to Jupiter and said, �Where is The Masked Mage? What happened to her?�

Mercury, Mars, and Neptune looked at Sailor Moon, puzzled. �Who?� Mars asked.

�Someone who has been helping us tonight,� Sailor Moon answered. �Other then that, I can�t tell you.�

�So that�s her name. She�s over there fighting,� Jupiter said pointing in the direction of the new fighter. They saw that Uranus, Saturn, and Venus had started to help her, but she was the only one making any progress towards winning.

::If only there were some way that we could help!::

The Masked Mage heard Sailor Moon in her head. ::Princess, if you really want to help, call them back and attack from a distance. It�s too crowded in here!::

She then heard Sailor Moon call the others back to regroup, and saw them go. Leaving her to fight. Without having to worry about how the girls were going, she could focus on the fight that she had on her hands.

�Well now you Fucking Asshole, it�s just you and me!� she said as she swung her sword once again, this time connecting and slicing part way through one of the tentacles.

The creature roared in pain and doubled it�s efforts to defeat it�s newest opponent. It swung another tentacle at The Masked Mage, just missing her as she jumped out of the way.

Landing on her feet a short distance from where she had just been standing, The Masked Mage dropped into a fighter�s crouch to avoid being hit by the monster�s injured limb.

Jumping to dodge yet another tentacle, The Masked Mage was caught in mid-air by the creature. Shit! The appendage wrapped itself around her middle like it had before she became The Masked Mage, except this time it was squeezing her tighter. ::Fuck! Not again!!::

She felt the tentacle tighten its grip even tighter. As it squeezed her, she dropped her sword to the ground.

Suddenly, The Masked Mage�s mind thought back to when she was still just Billie Merlin, being held by the exact same monster, the exact same way, earlier that night. She remembered the heat that flowed through her arms and hands. Then her mind flashed to when she helped Sailor Moon out from under the tree, the cold she felt in her arms and fingers as the ice grew from where she had placed her hands.

I did those things? How? How do I do it again?

Realizing that the fire and ice came from within her, she put her left hand on the tentacle. Her eyes never left the monsters in front of her. She pulled herself together, enough to concentrate on what she had to do. Burn in Hell!

Flowing down her arm and out her hand was a heat, that even though was not hotter to her, she knew that it was much more powerful than the last time she was in this position.

The plant-like monster gave it�s loudest roar of pain that night. Except this time, instead of flinging her aside, the thing tightened it�s grip. It had found a strong energy source and it wasn�t going to lose it. She could feel it try to suck her energy from her body.

�I DON�T THINK SO!� she yelled, then muttered through clenched teeth, �not this time!�

Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask watched as The Masked Mage jumped to dodge one tentacle only to be caught around the middle by another one. In each of their minds they heard, ::Fuck! Not Again!:: They both knew that the voice belonged to The Masked Mage.

Sailor Moon thought, Not again!? What does she mean by �not again�?

Tuxedo Mask thought the same thing. Then another thought crossed his mind, Her voice sounds so familiar, where did I hear it before?

Giving his head a small shake, he brought his mind to the problem at hand. Sailor Pluto is still out and The Masked Mage is in trouble. What can we do? What can I do?

�Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, you guys distracted that thing from a distance and maybe keep it busy enough that I can turn it to Moondust.�

�What about The Masked Mage?� Sailor Mars asked.

�I�ll get her out there before Sailor Moon attacks,� Tuxedo Mask said.

�Hurry up then,� Mercury said, studying the readings coming from her computer. �That thing is trying to drain her energy. Somehow she is resisting it, but it doesn�t look like she can keep it up for much longer.�

�OK, let�s move,� Jupiter said and moved away from the group to attack, hoping to keep the monster�s attention off of Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon.

The three girls stood in three different spots and attacked all at once. When the attacks struck, the monster roared and eased it�s hold on The Masked Mage, as it turned it�s attention to the newest threat.

Feeling this, The Masked Mage focused on sending another wave of fire into the limb around her. It roared again and dropped her completely.

As she was preparing to hit the ground, Tuxedo Mask caught her and then landed near her sword. When he set her on her feet, she bent down to pick up her weapon, turning her back on the enemy.

Instinct driving her once again, she straightened, she turned and threw something that felt like a twig at the creature. She was surprised that the �twig� was actually a purple rose. A few moments later, she saw a second rose, this one red, strike the creature as well.

That�s when she noticed that while the creature had slowed with her rose, it had completely stopped with the second one.

She felt Tuxedo Mask grab her arm and pull her back just as she heard Sailor Moon�s voice call out her attack.

The next thing that she knew, the creature, that had been right in front of her, was now a pile of dust that began to blow away in the wind.

Looking around, she saw that Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask and the other girls were alright, except Pluto, of course. She also noticed that no one else, but that woman that she had tried to help earlier was in the park.

Tuxedo Mask had caught The Masked Mage as she was falling from the creature�s grasp. He landed and put her on her feet. When he saw her reach for something, he looked and saw it was her sword.

Then he noticed what she had done. I can�t believe she just turned her back , you never turn your back on the Negaverse!

He made a rose to throw appear. As he was pulling his arm back to throw it, he was surprised at not only by the speed of which The Masked Mage stood and turned, but also by the object that had flown from her outstretched fingers. A rose.....A purple rose!? Once again a sense of familiarity washed over him.

He stood there, stunned for a split second. Then he realized that her rose had the same effect his would have had. It only slowed the creature. He let his own fly and when it hit, the enemy stopped moving all together, frozen in place.

He took a quick glance at Sailor Moon and saw that she was readying her attack. Then he realized that he, and the newest addition to Earth�s defenders, were standing too close to the monster. He grasped her upper arm and pulled her with him as he stepped back out of the range of Sailor Moon�s attack.

Then he watched as the creature that the enemy had sent turned to �Moondust� and blew away in the breeze.

Tuxedo Mask dropped the Masked Mage�s arm and went towards the woman that Billie had tried to help that evening, to make sure that she was alright. The Masked Mage watched as Sailor Mercury went as well. Just then the image of Mercury wavered and The Masked Mage saw that she was really Ami. Well, that kind of makes sense, the one that wants to be a doctor is the one who is the group�s healer. Darien would be the only other one better....but he�s too busy keeping the monster off of their asses...besides Prince Endymon was never one to sit back when there was a fight anyway.

As Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Mercury were looking after the stranger, The Masked Mage went to where Sailor Pluto was laying and knelt down beside her. Taking the unconscious woman�s hand she closed her eyes, wishing that there was something that she could do.

::But there is:: The Masked Mage heard in her head. It was the voice of Queen Serenity. ::And deep down you know what must be done!::

She could hear the others coming up to where she and Pluto were. She kept her eyes closed and searched deep within herself and found the answer that she was looking for. Her eyes popped open and she scanned the ground around her and jumped up and grabbed a leaf that was on the ground, then a couple of flowers from some plants. Then she made her way back to Pluto�s side, as she wrapped the flowers with the leaf and crushed them between her fingers.

The others had reached Pluto and Tuxedo Mask had picked her up, and said, �I�ll take her home and then meet you guys where ever you guys decide...just let me know where.�

�Wait,� The Masked Mage said as she approached, �this will help her.� As she stepped up to Tuxedo Mask, she ripped the leaf and held the whole pack under Pluto�s nose.

Sailor Mars grabbed her arm and pulled her away. �What are you doing to her?� she asked. She was suspicious about what the stranger was doing to her friend.

�Just wait,� The Masked Mage said, not surprised to see Sailor Mars become Rei, in her sight. They both had a temper and a loyalty to their friends.

As Mars was about to say more, Pluto stirred and woke up. Tuxedo Mask put her on her feet and held her steady until she was able to stand on her own.

Pluto looked at The Masked Mage, �It�s good to see you back to your old self, my friend.�

�Not totally yet, but I got this far thanks to you,� The Masked Mage bowed slightly to her. Pluto just smiled at her.

Everyone else looked at the two women. �You two know each other?� Sailor Uranus asked. The Masked Mage looked to her and saw that she was really Amara.

Thinking for a moment she realized that she could deduce who the other three Scouts were. Saturn, the youngest Scout, couldn�t be any other then Hotaru, the youngest of the group of friends. Neptune, who was always standing near Uranus giving her looks that Billie got from Kolton, had to be Michelle. And that left Venus...and the only girl left was Mina.

�Of course we know each other,� Pluto said, �we all know her. You guys just forgot her along with all you other memories from the Silver Millennium. Only I retained my memories of her, because it was my job to awaken her memories and bring her here into the fight. I had to know when she would be needed.�

�What do you mean?� Mars asked, �You brought her to us? How? You were unconsious.�

�Let�s go somewhere where we can talk, then your questions will be answered,� Pluto said. Then looking to the bushes said, �Luna, you and Artemis should come too.�

�Where to then?� The Masked Mage asked. But before anyone could answer her, she collapsed, and her transformation changed to reveal to all around her that she was Billie.

Tuxedo Mask went to her and picked her up, �Let�s take her to her place. Mercury and I can make sure that she is alright and she will be most comfortable there.�

�But how do we get in? Surely she locks her doors, and it would look a bit weird for someone to go in through the window, I�m sure,� Sailor Venus said.

�I�ll check her pockets for her keys,� Sailor Moon said. �But not here. On the roof of her building will be safer.�

�If , for some reason, she doesn�t have them. I�m used to climbing into my building unseen, so I�ll see if there is an open window to her apartment,� said Tuxedo Mask.

Don�t worry, Billie, I�ll wait until you are back with us before I get too far into the story, Pluto thought.

The group took off in the direction of Billie�s apartment. Mercury stopped long enough to pick up the leaf and flowers that Billie had dropped when she collapsed, This could come in handy in a bit.
