Hatori made his way back to the hospital and slowly made his way back to the room Kyo was situated in. Quietly he entered the room and stood behind Haru who was holding Kyo’s hand tightly and softly caressing his face with the other. “Kyo you know you ruined your favorite clothes.” He said calmly.
Hatori listen to Haru talk to Kyo. Slowly Kyo’s heart started to steady out and the pace seemed to get more normal. Hatori put a hand on his shoulder and patted it before turning and walking out of the room. He kept his pace slow as he walked down into the gift shop where amazingly they held small pocket sized book of the old time English classics. Picking out a couple he bought them and walked back. He came up next to Haru and gave him the bag. “Maybe if you read to him.” He said and trailed off.
Haru looked up at Hatori before reaching into the bag and pulling out a couple of the books. He chose one and started to read it. Hatori pulled up a chair and listened to Haru and watched Kyo’s heart rate pulse and all vital signs. He noticed that as Haru read Kyo’s heart rate would drop and calm but when he stopped to turn the page it would spike slightly before settling again. He was silently amazed that Kyo made it through the night and into the next day.
Hatori couldn’t tell you how many hours or days they spent doing this. But Haru was always ready to read something to Kyo or just talk to him. He told Kyo about the day as it went by. What happened when he wasn’t able to be by his side. Hatori smiled as Haru never forgot to tell Kyo where he was going and that he would be back as soon as he could.
But suddenly everything change. Haru stood and kisses Kyo’s forehead before going to walk away. “I’ll be back Kyo.” He said and went to walk away but Kyo had a tightened grip on Haru’s hand.
Haru turned back quietly and touched Kyo’s face. “Kyo?” he asked and almost couldn’t contain the excitement. “Kyo are you there?”
Slowly Kyo twitched a little and his head leaned a little into Haru’s touch. Unable to keep his excitement in Haru started to laugh loudly even as the tears gathered in his eyes. Hatori came into the room hearing Haru laugh. He had left quickly to get some coffee. “Hatori he moved.” He turned and looked at the dragon happy tears streaming down his face.
“Kyo.” Haru said. “Can you open your eyes for me please?” He asked and waited.
Little by little his eyes moved before his lids fluttered open to show his beautiful mahogany eyes. Haru leaned down to kiss his forehead. “Kyo. I’m so happy.” He said in an excited whisper.
Hatori came over and shown a light into Kyo’s eyes. Unfortunately they didn’t constrict or dilate when he moved the light. “Haru, Kyo can’t see you.” He said calmly.
“Right now I’m just so happy he’s awake.” Haru said staying close to Kyo. “Kyo.” He whispered.
He leaned into Haru’s touch closing his eyes again. Hatori smiled and turned to leave. “I’m going to go call everyone.” he said and rushed out of the room.
Haru smiled and nodded his head. He rubbed Kyo’s hand and kisses the back of it. Haru let out a soft smile and couldn’t hold back his happy tears. Hatori came back and pulled off the breathing mask and checked everything. Kyo rasped for a couple of moments before whispering in a ragged voice. “I know your voice.” He said closing his eyes and holding his hand.
Haru nodded. “You know me.” He answered. “You know me well.”
Kyo just let out a tired but happy smile and calmed as Haru brushed his hair out of his face.
