Save no. 6 - Memories of nightmares
Rivers of water ran along the broken windows in the ruins of a building blackened by fire. Deep within that building wreckage surrounded a test tube, set in a floor of burnt desks, holding chambers and once-working machinery. The figure inside that holding chamber watched as the pale digit led a trailing teardrop into the palm of it's hand, before it drew away. Violet eyes watched the same-coloured ones hovering in the gloom before her, almost failing to notice that a pair of frail arms drew round the girl to gently pick her up and away from the prison of broken glass, water and wires that once surrounded her.
Never once did her eyes move from those of the shadowed figure though a fleeting thought was given as to why she still could not make out it's face. This curiousity led to bravery and the child raised a hand, cold and wet with suspension fluid and rainwater, towards where she hoped to meet it's face only to have that hand gently halted by a few digits much larger than her own. It spoke. It's voice was deep, calm and quiet yet it seemed to fill her ears, other sounds losing focus. The foreign hand enclosed around her own and purple eyes widened against a rush of energy and something else... a swirl of what felt like... anger? Anguish?.... but why?
"Sleep..." The bright purple gaze abouve her narrowed and the child felt as if she were slowly falling, eyelids growing heavy until they fell closed...
Only to snap open with a painful jolt to her midsection.
"Shinobu?!" The trainer flinched awake, eyes opening to a face full of white fur, a neat little nose and wine-red eyes, the expression clear in the inverted 'V' that made up it's mouth. The zangoose sighed, relived, then sat up to allow space for his owner to do the same. Said owner questioned in a tired, gravely tone. "What was that for?" And the pokemon answered in a quiet voice as if mindful of the rest of the sleeping pokemon, as well as worried -but not for them...
"You were babbiling in your sleep! You started muttering something about.. A mistake... or something. That's all I could catch since I just came from outside the room. It was weird."
"I... I was?"
He nodded, curling up in the same bed the girl soon got up from with a gasp, limping towards the door. "The medicine!! Sherry's Feraliga-"
"Don't worry, Joy left to deliver it so everything should be fine." Halting at the doorway she turned back toward her partner. "And how's everyone else doing?"
"We're all okay.The vulpix is right over there." The Zangoose pointed toward said fighter across the room fast asleep in a seperate, smaller bed. With a sigh of relief she started toward the lobby with a smile, but that faded in the gloom of the hall as Shinobu realized that tonight there was much to think about. The trainer came to sit in a sofa nearest the window, purple hair strewn about a tired face nestled in crossed arms. The strange dreams were already puzziling enough, what had really happened during that battle? And Raikun... Was he truly...?
"So what you two are telling me is that not only did you fail to capture the totodile, but you also failed to capture the Viridian center's pokemon -all thanks it to some rookie trainer!?" An irritated female voice growled from the speaker of a videophone. The young blonde and blue haired boy was the first to break the uneasy silence that followed that accusation, the indignation clear in his voice. "Correction. I had the pokemon and we were almost in the center, but that girl showed up outta nowhere and we were forced to back off before we could get away with it. I would've at least been able to hang on to the totodile if it weren't for that damned vulpix. There was definetely something off about that fox -it was way too low-levelled to know that attack."
"Something was off about that entire battle more like..." The hazel-eyed Rocketeer added, brows furowing as her arms crossed themselves in an image of contemplation. "That girl, there's something more to her."
"Hmm...?" The anonymous voice questioned, and the boy's heterochromed gaze turned on his colleague.
"I left this detail out but, when my beedril's pin missiles were hitting that thing she seemed to react at the same time it did." Another small bout of silence, and the voice urged, intrigued now.
"Go on..." And the grunt continued. "Not only that, but shit really got weird when beedrill attacked her -she didn't react, the fox did. And that fox dosen't even belong to her, it was still wild when I first ran into it the other day so technically it's fresh out the field. Pokemon usually don't get in sync with thier trainers that fast, and i've never seen a trainer-pokemon connection on that kinda level."
"What if she used a TM?" The boy asked, and the green-haired woman shook her head slowly. "I'm positive there was none involved, if there was then she would have for sure used that move first."
There was more silence shared between the three, glances exchanged by the green and dual-haired syndicate members before the third voice spoke again. "Giovanni's not going to like hearing about you coming back empty-handed. We were supposed to take that totodile in order to set an example to one of his more... 'prominent'... clients, and the center's pokemon were going to be for our reserves and any new recruits but, given the case something tells me even he's going to be surprised and this is gonna take some investigation, that's for sure. For now I want you two to stick to the plans I set for you, and report back to me if that girl gets in your way again. Got it?"
"Yes m'am" Said rockets answered in unison. There was a click and the videophone turned off in the low-lit, decently furnished room. The older rocket slumped back into a cushy couch that was big enough for three while the younger fell back into a one-seater, sprawling out across the seat and shoulders.
"That stupid brat is gonna pay, mark my words." Midori growled, sighing out her remaining tension and anger before glancing over at her teammate. "So what about you? You still looking for that runnaway Giovani assigned you to find?" The question brought an unnusually pleased grin to the boy's features, one that even the older female couldn't help but feel uneasy from. "Oh yes..." He responded in a tone that barely managed to contain his enthusiasm, though the motive behind that face Midori had a feeling.
The woman had heard rumours about this one and the target of his primary assignment.. despite the fact that noone but a select few knew just who it was the half-blonde was after. And truthfully between the whispers and whatever she felt safe to assume was actually real, in the end she figured maybe she didn't want to know.
"ahhh.. I still haven't picked up any good leads yet, but hopefully soon. Someone needs to bring the fool back home, afterall..." He sighed, getting up from the couch to move to the window of the safehouse they currently stayed in. The grass-haired female could have sworn she heard the young man whisper a name before turning and leaving the room with a careless wave and a "..Night." But the mention of night brought her attention away from the mystery and to the window -it was late, and today didn't go as planned.
Well no sense in staring tomorrow on a bad note, it was time to get some sleep she thought as she grabbed a semi-folded blanket from the back of her couch, and left the room too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An oddly coloured ghastly floated after a little purple-haired girl in a jacket way too large for her, it's inverted eyes darting nervously from her, to the old plank in her hands, to the shadows that surrounded them within the abandoned house. Whevener it's old, tired floors groaned in protest under her step the battered ghost would let out a half-hearted wail, and only hover even closer to the human, who sometimes had to shush the creature -even pausing to raise a finger to her lips.
"Shhhh! D'you wanna get outta here alive!?" She whispered, and even though this lifeless shelter was it's rightful haunt the pokemon only floated closer to her side in silent answer. Thanks to the danger that lurked, it would be more than willing to find another home.
The small child often visited this place wheras other kids kept thier distance, thier parents warning them of it's dilapidated state and the monsters that lived inside, but judging by the doors opened and food left for the mustard phantom she thought little of the so-called "danger"... That of course turned out to be the old house's one resident ghastly and many edible bribes later the two became fast aquaintances, then friends. The ghost would actually float down from the upper floors expecting to find more food but... on this evening it found trouble instead. A seviper, attracted by the opportuinty perhaps had come by in search of any leftovers but it's attention shifted from slim pickings to live prey and a chase had begun. Luckily Shinobu had stopped by as well and fended off the snake, but something told them both that it would be back.....
"See? look we're almost home--" And sure enough it did. the monster moved from a shadow next to the doorway up ahead and paused when it sensed the two standing in the middle of the foyer, and when thier eyes met in a three-way gaze they knew what was coming next.
"Get behind me!" The little girl shouted and the ghost just missed the Seviper's teeth, which took with them a chunk of the 2x4 Shinobu had been using...
"Ummm..." Now that they were out of options and wood there was one thing left to do, and that was-
"Run awaaay!" Turning back and tail the duo scrambled for a door all the way across from the one they first intended to leave through, passing underneath a dusty old chandelier high abouve -and two other houseguests who watched the girl's fruitless battle with the locked door turn for the worse. The poison-type took it's time closing in and stopped in the center of the room to prepare it's move, coiling up while the girl slumped with her back against the door after another minute, a sigh of despair leaving her as she hid her face behind the ghastly hovering in her arms. "I..I guess this is it.." She mumbled sadly. The ghost type, finally at the end of it's rope with the serpent about to pounce and it's friend now helpless, did the only thing that came to mind.. it screeched.
"A-aaaack! Ghastlyyyy!" Shinobu did her best to cover her ears, wincing at the growing racket the pokemon caused and she wasn't the only one. While the snake writhed and flung it's head against ghastly's desperate distraction the mystery guests took their opportunity and the sound of a rope being cut missed the ears of the ones below, all forgetting the presence of the elaborate glass candle-holder until it came down onto the agitated hunter -now off the ground mid-leap- with a floor-shaking crash. Where Shinobu had expected a world of hurt she got a storm of glass, the ghastly doing it's best to shield both itself and her from the unexpected assist.
"Did you... do that?" The girl stared in disbelief at the scene that landed practically at her feet, and the ghost was quick to deny the credit, shaking it's head. "But then.. who- ah!" And the real culprit, a living shadow, landed almost soundlessly atop the grounded fixture, glass creaking underpaw as it stood to crack it's shoulders.
"A zangoose?" But with Ink black fur no less! Her attention was distracted with a short scream when the seviper, thought to be defeated, leapt out of the glass wreckage towards Shinobu with a vengance only to meet the back of another zangoose's paw, this one being unusual with it's lacking a stripe, except for the blood that stained it's hand.
"Ah.." The future trainer watched in awe as it stood there, seemingly unphased by the snake hanging off of it's hand save for the mean scowl it bore toward it, which turned into a grimace and soon an enraged yell, that arm whipping foward violently enough to dislodge the enemy pokemon, sending it flying -and landing with a bounce- to land near the front door. The moment was still sinking in for her, how was this pokemon so fast?
"Guess you were telling the truth ghastly, heh..." She laughed weakly, slowly getting to her feet while reaching into her shoulderbag and pulling out a strip of bandaids. The white zangoose's ear twitched at the rustiling sounds behind it, and turned to have it's paw gently taken into her own where she brushed aside the fur surrounding the bitemarks as best she could, before applying them. This was the one she wanted.
"I-I know it's not much, but um.. thanks. You really saved our butts back there." Silence returned to the room for a moment as the catferret's gaze moved from the bandaids, back to the human.
"My name's Shinobu by the way, i'm going to become a trainer once I get a little more experience... Maybe you could help me with that -that is, uhm, if you wanna..." And again things fell silent, and the child wondered if she picked the wrong words or if maybe she was selfish in asking these pokemon for such a favor, or if they even understood her but all doubt was shed aside the moment the paw she held gently enclosed around one of her hands. "Huh?" And looking up, the future trainer's face broke out into a grateful smile, while her pokemon smiled back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That child had indeed become a trainer, albeit still a fledgeling by all rights but a trainer nonetheless and here she lay, asleep in the seat she had come to in order to sort her thoughts out with a blanket draped over her. Curled up beside her was the one who had brought it there in the first place, the white zangoose. It lay there awake and with the girl's arms securely round him like a child clinging to a teddy bear he was out of luck. A sigh, then his paw came to rest over her head. How had it come to this? That he would actually venture such a long way from home with that sneak of a ghost, all for her sake? Well...
"Maybe more than that..." He muttered to himself. He'd once been a part of a human's world alongside his brother, afterall. But after seperating themselves from that crumbling life they'd sworn to leave it behind, to bury the pain, move on and never look back. And yet this trainer... The day he'd locked eyes with her...
...She forced him to turn around, if only for a moment.
"Hello-oo~ Earth to Zan-nn~" The pure-furred beast blinked away the memories in the presence of the just-noticed ghost. Said spectre was watching Joy from across the large lobby chatting with another trainer and thier persian, and he too decided that since there was nothing else of intrest and he needed the distraction anyways he'd listen in...
"...And yes, thanks to a trainer who had stopped by here eariler the girls and I were able to drive them away." Nurse Joy explained with the tone of relief clear in her dainty voice. One glance and you'd never suspect her to be a fighter but thanks to last night's events, the Zangoose knew better.
Boy, did he ever know better.
The trainer, another young girl who looked a tad older than Shinobu spoke, leaning casually against the counter on her arm. Her shoulder-length, layered black hair (sporting a shock of green in front) hiding all but one vivid blue-green eye. And if the pokemon looked hard enough he could see a ring of hazel and yellow within the swirl of cooler colour.
"So let me get this right... a rookie trainer managed to defend you guys from a rocket attack? And one of the pokemon wasn't even hers? Heh" The girl spun cooly on her heel to lean against the counter again, this time her back to the nurse as she looked at her over her shoulder. "S'kinda hard to believe but then again, i've heard crazier stuff. Ever heard of the guy who made his pikachu thundershock an onyx? And it was during a gym battle too.." Joy giggled at that thought, but before she could add to the turn of subject with a story of her own, blissey came bouncing along holding out the trainer's pokeball. "Ah, your pokemon is fully healed."
"Thanks" The trainer smiled to the blissey and Joy, then pocketed the device in her longcoat.
"I guess I oughtta thank that girl for saving me a long talkin to from Julia... I mean, if that totodile went missing she'd be furious... -shinies fetch at least a hundred-thou in zenny each." The mystery trainer added on that last part somwehat begrudgingly, which made the spying Zangoose curious. As far as he knew humans also profited from selling pokemon yes? So why was she bothered?
"Hm, you mentioned you'd be stopping by Sherry's right? Once Outkast wakes up I can send her your way. Poor thing's been worrying about her and that feraligatr since she got here." Joy suggested, looking towards the couch in which said trainer slept. Though from thier angle they could only see the back of the furniture and of course two pokemon watching them. The persian like it's trainer was already sizing them up with thier eyes, the latter quickly making note that both of them were oddly coloured too, like her own pokemon.
Kishe smirked. "Well, this should be interesting... C'mon, we'll be seeing more of those two soon enough." She gestured with a mild wave of the hand to follow and the cat pokemon gracefully strided alongside, tossing the other two a wink just before it was out of sight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After Shinobu woke up and took some time to clean up and redress, she stood at the door with Joy by her side to see the young trainer off. The nurse had let her know about the totodile's owner who awaited them back at the daycare, and after saying thier goodbyes, exchanging numbers and making the trainer promise to stay in touch, she left for Sherry's.
"O-kay, so after we stop by here our next target's Pewter's gym and Takeshi. Better known by his trainer name." She announced to the two following her. "And what would that be?" The ghastly asked.
"...Brock" She yawned out, stopping to stretch her arms and legs before catching up to the zangoose who had just kept walking. "My claws may be good, but not cut-through-rock good. Let alone metal." His owner blinked at that bit of info there. Not that she didn't know mind you, but she certainly didn't expect a wild pokemon to be aware of the trainer scene.
And especially one who didn't care for that stuff to boot. "Wait, how did you--"
"--I said I didn't care much for your badges, but I never said I didn't know about what goes on in getting them." Zan informed, looking toward her with half-lidded eyes and that faint frown of his ever present. "Don't get your hopes up too high though, I only know basic information..."
"R-right. But it's nice to know that you know at least... Now I don't feel so odd talking about it with you guys." Garuda, feeling a just wee bit left out by now half-grunted half-wailed his complaint. "Someone mind explaiiiiniiiing?!" And some laughter was had before the purple-haired girl was made to do all the talking, Filling him in on what she knew of the league, the badges and the process of becoming an elite trainer.
The walk back was long but the three friends certainly didn't notice it since thier chat covered the whole way there, with Shinobu wrapping things up just as they reached the daycare's front door. They knocked and were greeted by the much-older, ginger-haired woman who swept up the girl into her arms in a big hug. Long tresses swayed behind Sherry as she swung her arms -and the girl in them- side to side some.
"Didn't you promise me you'd come straight back if anythin happened!?" She scolded -or tried to anyway, but the fact that the woman was grinning didn't help the stern image she was aiming for. "Heh... I got a little tied up?" Shinobu offered weakly after being set back down, and the breeder merely sighed with a smile. "I know, Joy explained everything when she came to deliver the meds. Nice work you did back there. Dangerous, but nice." And to that Shinobu nodded her agreement, very happy on the inside that the woman believed in her enough not to actually scold her.
Sherry led them straight to the back of the main floor reserved for the pokemon who stayed with the caretaker, where they were greeted by the mother feraligatr who too, growled out a happy "welcome back" and gave the young trainer a hug fit for an ursaring,
"T-thanks!" She breathlessly laughed out, more relieved than anything else to see the pokemon well on the road to recovery when another girl's voice chimed in.
"Beating up Rockets and savin the day eh? Lemme know next time you spot one cause I want in on the fun~" And there she was, the new girl from the center strolling in from the kitchen to stand next to the way-taller water-type.
Looking every bit the punk from her shiny black leather collar, to the fitted but comfy black pants hugging her hips (bottoms flared out and cuffed) this trainer looked like she was ready to rock -and everything in between looked just as stylish. She wore a sleeveless tank top with a paw mark stenciled in silver on the right breast and from the elbows down, striped black 'n' green cotton gloves. The thick hooded open coat she wore stopped at her knees and on the back was another stenciled pawmark, this one far more detailed and made to look like the mark itself was made from flame. It even shimmered under the light.
"She looks even trendier than the cooltrainers... In fact, she puts them all to shame." The move tutor blinked slowly, pretty much staring at the other girl in front of her until she came to an outstretched hand held out for her followed by a name.
"The name's Kishe. And before you ask, i'm not a cooltrainer. Seriously -I get that way too often."
"Y-yeah... I'm Outkast." She stuttered out, taking her hand to shake heartily with the kind of nervous but well meaning smile you see on future friends. Kishe grinned as she eyed the younger trainer, a hint of pointed teeth gleaming and then gone with the expression. This rookie had a lot to live up to having survived a rocket attack but she figured once they battled, she'd really see what kind of person this Outkast was. But of course there was no rush, and plenty opportunity left to see to that. "Really though, they may look cool 'n' all but they spend more time and money on thier looks than on thier pokemon, let alone on thier training,.." The jet scoffed, blowing green bangs out of her face only to have them fall back into place seconds later. A stranger may have pointed out that she should talk.
But the slightly younger trainer had a feeling that that same hypothetical stranger would also wind up eating thier words.
"But anyways, yeah that's my trainer name. I take it you're on your way to Pewter? Cause if you are we could always go together. I'm gonna be staying the day here though, to stock up." She warned, but it went over the other's head. "I'd love that actually, and yeah, I should probably do the same..." She admitted in a quiet voice, scratching her head bashfully to her new friend's delight. So the other wasn't gonna bail on ahead? This was a good sign.
After setting up the guest rooms upstairs at the daycare the two young ladies had gone to town, first stopping by the mart to browse and buy what each felt was needed. Violet eyes read over the ingredients of the jar of burn salve she purchased along with a bottle of quick-dissolve paralysis tablets, the kind Raikun had used. With that together she'd also bought a couple high-grade potions in case of an emergency and after that they stopped by a fast food joint for the afternoon, where thier conversation picked up.
"So, you're from Pallet?" The fashionista asked after downing half her drink, while the tutor shook her head a little in reply.
"Hoenn actually, but i've been in Pallet for at least three years now." She moved to grab her own drink then. "So you probably know everybody by heart there then, it's not that big of a town after all..." And Outkast shook her head again, caring little about hiding the frown that crossed her lips.
"The only people I truly know are Oak, and this one mother who's son is supposed to be a famous trainer and between those two i've spent more time with the proffessor."
"Ahh, so you're into labcoats huh? and a big one too!" A smirk, which grew at the other girl's flustered reaction.
"Ehh!? N-no it's not like that! It's just he's been like a kind teacher and a friend to me.." She took a sip then, the blush clearing from her face as she calmed and the other girl chuckled, before she continued.
"He's also like the grandfather I never had, and the dad I miss if that makes any sense." She paused a moment, and when the jet nodded in a sign of "go on" she did.
"When I first got there he and that trainer's mom were among the first to welcome us and they were the only ones who actually got to know me and my mother better. Oak let help take care of the pokemon in his lab and eventually let me join him on his field studies too, using the monsters I helped care for. I even got to stay over for days at a time and thanks to him I learned at a faster pace than I ever could have in the trainer school there, which I aced when graduation exams came around."
"Why do I have a feeling you're about to go flashback on me?" Kishe smirked at the other girl who laughed a little at the prediction. Her father always did tell her she had a way of reminesing as if she were older than she actually was.
Pallet. 6:03 Pm. 5 Years ago...
"Pikachu, thundershock-"
"-Lightscreen."
It was approaching late evening for the town's trainer school and graduation classes were running into overtime, with the last few students wrapping up thier matches. For some it meant a summer review course in order to graduate and for those who truly failed to learn, another year to get it right.
Shinobu was determined not to be a part of either category, she worked too hard and was far too talented to fail at this. It'd been a while since the battle started and her pikachu was running out of steam, and while the mr mime belonging to her neighbour wasn't faring much better, the woman who went by the nickname of 'Dahlia' was clearly a better strategist than she got credit for. Also didn't help the young girl was battiling a headache at the same time.
"Damn, it just won't get through" She huffed, the assigned pokémon returning to her side with a lot less bounce in it's step than when they'd started. It looked toward his trainer with an exasperated "Piiiii" Which filtered through her ears as "Maaaan".
"I hope you're not giving up." Dahlia's voice brought thier attention back and both the mouse and purple-haired girl shook thier heads quickly, answering in unison "Wh-wha-No way!" and "Pi-Piii-Pika!" respectively.
That had thier partner giggiling from behind her hand. "Oh, you two are just too cute."
At this Shinobu groaned and tried to hid her blush by covering her face with her hands, but soon her attention returned to the match. Okay, there had to be something they could do to end this.
"I know you're running outta juice pikachu but hang in there, we'll figure something out." Her little buddy took that as his cue to get back in the fight and started toward the mr mime.
They tried another thundershock but the worst of it was easily absorbed by the psychic type's lightscreen, and at the rate they were going the electric type would tire out first. "C'mon shinobu, think! There has to be a way to deal some real damage fast enough.." If only it was her zangoose she was working with his speed and force would have been more than enough but, he wasn't here, he was... back in Hoenn... She shook her head of the thought before it she could dwell on it. "I know there's something but damn, I can't think straight! This headache is killing me!"
Wait.
"That's it! I can't beli-Oww.." She had smacked her hand against her head and instantly regretted it.
"You alright over there honey?" The mime's trainer fretted when she saw the girl slightly hunch over for a second, but smiled right after "Oh i'm more than alright. Pikachu i've got it! Save your electricity cause agility's what we need!" And agility's what she got with the mouse now running circles around his opponent. Dahlia called for a dose of psychic but despite her pokemon's accuracy pikachu was just too quick. the blasts of power missing the little rodent by at least a foot. Alright, now for thier secret weapon! Oh how she hoped it would work...
"Headbutt!"
...And once again the lightning mouse delivered, leaping with the momentum from all his running to fly right through the lightscreen and crash into the side of mr mime's head.
"Oh dear!" Now Dahlia wasn't expecting something like that and apparently neither was her partner, stumbling to the right from the force of the blow and almost teetering over.
"I-it worked. it really worked.." While Mr mime did it's best to right itself "That's it mimey, let's try again" Pikachu stood at the ready, perking up quite a bit from the turn of events. It readied itself to dodge a psychic blast but the injured mime's body jolted, hands rising to hold it's head instead.
"O-oh noooo, Mimey!" Seeing this Shinobu couldn't help but exchange a look with the pikachu in front of her, a mischevious grin spreading across both thier faces as they each looked back toward the other duo.
"Heh, two for flinching!" The student pointed, that grin good as stuck while pikachu raced toward the reeling mr mime. A blow to the same side and pikachu bounced off with a flip only to leap right back to barrel into the psychic's chest, finally knocking the poor mime back toward the ground..
Or into Dahlia's arms instead, the woman having dashed forward to catch her roughed-up friend.
"MiiIIiiimmmme." It groaned, Shinobu hearing that as a pained and rather slurred "I give" while it's head lolled further into it's owner's arms. "Oops.. erm, guess pika overdid it huh? S-sorry mr mime.." Dahlia nodded with a sympathetic smile "You were just trying to pass the course sweetie, it's alright. Besides, i'm sure mimey and I both learned something important today too, right mimey-poo?"
Said pokémon nodded slowly, offering a small smile and a thumbs up. There were no hard feelings.
Professor Oak who had volunteered to oversee the day's testing finally stepped forward and called the match, a smile on his own face that grew wide when the younger trainer ran up to hug him. "That was some battle battle eh kiddo?" He returned the hug while the older woman and mime joined them, with pikachu climbing up to rest over the kid's shoulder. "But I have to ask, pikachu didn't know that move when he was loaned to you, and they don't normally learn it either."
"And since this was a test no items are allowed..." Dahlia added, she too pondered just how it was done.
"I tought him.." Shinobu said simply, though the gleeful pride was hard to miss on both her and her mouse. "Y-tou taught him?" A nod in reply. "But.. but how?" She smiled again, albeit sheepishly.
"Let's just say I had to teach by example, and it took most of the day to do it." Needless to say Oak was pleasantly surprised. "But, that would mean..." But his thoughts were put on hold when the child made a face, fingertips pressing into her temples. "I think I need an asprin."
"O-oh! yes of course! Come on, then." The three recalled thier pokemon and started back toward the school, many thoughts and many more questions already piling up in the professor's head. While move tutors were no surprise they were hard to come by, and all the ones he'd ever met were full-grown adults whose skills took years - sometimes decades even- to refine.
And yet, he'd just witnessed the results of a veteran from the hands of a child...
"So you're the real deal huh?" Kishe smirked briefly, a slender brow raising with a tilted head over a long finished glass of pop. "Sounds like you've got a happy little family there too." Shinobu shrugged to that with a half-hearted frown. "It's... it's better than what i've got right now."
"Huh?" Now she was really intrested, but when her purple-haired friend only shook her head and tucked into the rest of her sandwich she took the hint and let it go for now, though not before throwing a little something on the table so to speak.
"Not much worth staying home for hm? Don't worry, s'why I came out here too." Satisfied with the chuckle that got Kishe nodded back grinning and called over a waiter for the bill.
She had a good feeling that, when the time was right, they'd come back to it.
AN: Wow a lot's changed around here... Okay first off, my writing style's changed a lot between the last time I wrote on this and now, and since I stopped mid-chapter when I fell into hiatus, I was worried the change would be so obvious that it'd stick out so I tried to go back to my previous style for the sake of consistency. Not sure how well or not well that might have worked out.
Secondly, About updates... Because of life and drama I can't guarantee when there will be an update. I tried that before and well.. look what happened. Thing is, while I want to be able to offer some sort of consistency in updating it's just not a goal I feel comfortable setting right now, i'd be setting myself up for failure somehow someway, whether it's drama or something else. Most importantly deadlines=pressure, and pressure=will grow to hate it. Can't have that.
Lastly, while I can't promise absolute consistency right now (and believe me I know how it feels to read a fic, love it and be left frowning and disappointed cause it's never to be updated again) I can promise this: this fic will be finished eventually. It's simply writing what goes on in between the important parts/really good parts without rushing to them that's the challenge.
Well... That's about all for this author's note.
