Rainy day man
~Rainy Day Man, SM soundtrack~
Four days later Hotohori, Miaka and Nuriko returned with three newcomers to the group Mitsukake, Tasuki and Chiriko. In the throne room Hotochiri as Kana had dubbed him the day before was standing on his head bored as could be.
“Oh, I wonder when they’ll be back no da.” He whined before a guard entered.
“Your highness.” At the sound of the mans voice Hotochiri reclaimed his posture in the chair.
“Yes?” He questioned.
“The priestess of Suzaku has returned with…” Before he could finish there was a cloud of smoke and Hotochiri was gone. “ Highness?” The man whispered puzzled, as he looked around confused. Out front at the gates Chichiri swung the door open to great Miaka and the Suzaku Seishi.
“What is that som’ kinda squirrel or sumtin’?” Tasuki yelled.
“No, that’s just Chichiri.” Miaka giggled.
“Hey where’d Hotohori go?” Mitsukake questioned.
“Yeah where di’ that guy run off ta?” Tasuki added before Nuriko shook his head.
“Haven’t you guys figured it out yet, he’s the…” Nuriko started.
“Nuriko enough!” Hotohori (the real one) demanded from the steps in front of them. The three new comers all looked up at him with pale faces.
“You mean he’s the emperor?” Tasuki stuttered dumbfounded.
“Yep no da.” Chichiri smiled before leading everyone inside after Hotohori had already entered through the door he had exited from, everyone in file behind him.
“Nuriko will show you rooms that you can have any pick of but for now I have something I must deal with. Chichiri can I speak with you for a moment?” Hotohori whispered before pulling Chichiri off to the side.
“What is it Hotohori?” Chichiri questioned. Once the group had made their way far enough down the hallway that they were out of earshot Hotohori turned to Chichiri.
“Have you met Kana?”
“Hai, we have become pretty close no da.”
“How close?”
“Close friends why?”
“Oh, no reason I’ll see you around bye!” Hotohori wove from down the hall before disappearing down another hallway. Kana sat on the railing of the gazebo staring out at the cool water, it was so calm and peaceful unlike her mind was at that moment. Soft footsteps could be heard behind her and she turned to see Hotohori standing a few feet away from her.
“I believe we need to talk.” He whispered before she turned her gaze back to the pond.
“That’s funny I don’t.” Kana huffed rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest.
“Kana, could you please just listen to me?”
“Yeah I suppose.”
“About that day when you disappeared I felt so horrible about the way we left things. I did not mean to yell at you I was just frustrated. The only thing that kept running through my head is what could have happened between the night before and today to make her view me so horribly.” Hotohori whispered before Kana slid off of the railing and leaned against it.
“I know what happens and now how things must be so I want my necklace back.” Hotohori gasped with her statement but unfastened the chain from around his neck and clenched the locket in his hand.
“Well for whatever it’s worth I’m sor-“
“Yeah right, Hotohori save me the sentimental shit okay.” She huffed leaning forward off of the railing and walking along the railing so she was standing next to him.
“Kana please.” He pleaded turning to look at her and held his arms out in one hand her necklace was still clenched.
“Don’t!” She yelled almost falling from choking on her sobs turning her face into the opposite direction of Hotohori and putting her hand out, it was shaking horribly. “This isn’t easy for me so could we not drag this out anymore?” He looked at her as a tear ran down his own face before placing the necklace in her hand.
“For what it’s worth Kana I’m sorry, sorry you ever cared about me if I’m not trustworthy.” He whispered as more tears accompanied the ones that had already fallen. Kana turned quickly and looked up at him the tears they saw in each others eyes made them both want to die for causing pain. Softly he brushed away some of her tears before cupping her chin in his hand and kissing her, forgetting what had happened she wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close before he broke the embrace. She bowed her head to look at the ground and unclasped her hands from behind his neck; sliding them across his shoulders and down his chest she shook her head. Pushing off his chest so his arms slid off of her hips she ran away sobbing, running down the balcony her tears clouded her vision but she kept running. Chichiri had just walked out of his room when he heard someone running in his direction, turning in the direction he heard the footsteps from he saw Kana running towards him sobbing.
“Kana?” He whispered. Kana instantly recognized Chichiri from his blue hair and remembered what he had said earlier ‘if you want to talk, or just cry you come and find me.’ She ran straight into his arms as he looked down at her confused.
“Kana? Hey what happened no da?” He whispered as she shook with her sobs. “Come on.” He lead her back into his room and had her sit down in a chair. Sitting down she accidentally dropped her necklace on the ground and he picked it up before looking at it intrequitely and setting it on the table next to her. “Okay so what happened?” He questioned kneeling in front of her with his hands on her knees. Kana looked up at him and wiped the tears away that were sitting on her cheeks.
“Me and Hotohori had a fight.” She whispered like a child who had done something wrong.
“About what?” He questioned before she looked to her necklace and then back to him. “Your necklace?” He whispered confused.
“Sort of, I care about him but I know he is destined to fall in love with someone else so me being here just screws up his future and the events to come if I am involved.” Kana whispered with a sniffle.
“I can understand that, it would be hard if it were someone I cared about.” Chichiri whispered thinking about Korran.
*Knock, knock, knock*
“Who is it?” Chichiri yelled towards the large oak wood that separated his room from the veranda.
“His highness has requested the presence of all of the Suzaku seishi and the priestess in the dining quarters.” A young male servants voice came from the other side.
“Has he said anything about the lady Kana?”
“No sire.”
“Alright than I will be there shortly.” Chichiri listened as the servant’s footsteps dissipated before looking down at Kana. “I guess I better go, you stay here until you can pull yourself together alright?” He whispered before standing and leaving. Kana leaned against the chair she had been sitting in and pulled her knees to her chest.
“This is so stupid. What am I doing? Hotohori will end up with Houki; I know that so what the hell am I doing trying to be with him? Even if I do care about him and he does care about me things can’t be like this. I know they can’t so from now on they won’t… I hope.” She promised herself before grabbing her necklace and retreating to her own room. Laying down she took a short nap while the meeting went on in the dining area.

“Now than how do we bring Tamahome back?” Hotohori whispered before noticing Tasuki’s tension. “You can relax my friend you are one of the Suzaku seishi as am I. The problem is getting The Universe of the Four Gods back along with Tamahome. In that book is the detailed inscription for the summoning of Suzaku and I can only remember part of it. We must find a way of retrieving it short of triggering a war.” He explained as the others looked at him in thought before Miaka spoke up.
“I’ll go get it. I’ll get the Universe of the Four Gods and bring it back along with Tamahome after all it was my fault the Universe of the Four Gods was taken.” She insisted.
“But…” Hotohori trailed off.
“I’ll go with her although I do think you should take some time to clear things up with Tamahome no da.” Chichiri inputted.
“You mean I can talk to Tamahome right now?” Miaka gasped.
********
Kana rolled over in her bed and stared out the window listening to the crickets chirp; it was soothing and helped her clear her thoughts. Suddenly she sat up and threw the covers to the floor before bolting out the door.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit how could I have forgotten about Tamahome? God Kana get your head outta your ass for once.” She whispered to herself before running in one of the rooms only to see Chichiri go tumbling to the ground and a screen with a picture of Tamahome fade out. “Shit.” She spat punching the doorframe.
“Kana? Hey you’re a little late if you wanted to talk to Tamahome.” Chichiri whispered dusting himself off and walking towards her.
“Yeah I know, Kutou is to the east right?” She questioned.
“North-east why?” Chichiri tilted his head in confusion.
“No reason, see ya.” She whispered before running back down the verranda. “Oof, owe.” Kana stuttered after she plowed into someone who was going the opposite way she was. “Sorry sir, I wasn’t watching where I was…” She began rambling before seeing whom she had run into. Hotohori looked up at her a little distraught before standing up.
“Sorry my fault I wasn’t watching where I was going.” He apologized keeping his eyes focused on the guardrail.
“No, no it was my fault I’m… I’m sorry Hotohori.” She whispered before he looked up at her surprised. “Don’t look so shocked you know I do have some courtesy." She joked.
“Sorry you just surprised me, I didn’t think you would be talking to me already.” He shook his head and sighed heavily.
“You know that I’m not mad at you don’t you?” Kana questioned before he looked up at her with a questioning gaze.
“You seemed pretty upset earlier…”
“Yeah upset, not mad.” She smiled and shook her head.
“Well than now what do we do?” He whispered taking a step towards her.
“Don’t pressure me, give me some space.” She started a list before he took a step backwards. “Not quite what I meant but okay, look I have to go but we can talk later okay?” She asked rhetorically before starting to walk by him.
“I’d like that, arrigato Kana.” He whispered watching her walk backwards away from him.
“Do itashimashite Hotohori.” She whispered in response before turning and running to her room. “Okay north-east is this way now a spell… uh…” Kana muttered to herself as she racked her brain for an incantation for direction and transportation.
“The east, the sylphs, the knowledge, the wind
Positive forces I call you in.
The south, the drakes, the hearth, the fire
Aid this night in my desire
The west, the mers, the love the water
I conjure my need into matter.
The north, the gnomes, the roots, the grove
Bring your gifts I make it so.
The center, the spirit, the life, the force
I call you now to open your doors.
Guide my path my raven friend
And end my quarrel as I descend
Onto the shadows of the enemies lawn
And thus shall protect me
Until tomorrows dawn.” Kana whispered as a raven made out of black smoke swirled around her before she disappeared and reappeared in the Kutou palaces courtyard. The moment she appeared she felt the negative forces and took off in search of Tamahome’s room, the lay out of the Kutou palace was just like that of the Konan palace. “Lets see, lets see… come on Tamahome give me some kind of energy force to go on.” She whispered to herself before Nakago stepped out from around the corner and looked at her with a smug smile.
“Well, well look what I found. An intruder looking to get the shit beat out of her.” He smirked crossing his arms over his chest.
‘Oh great now I have to fight the bleach high Seiryu freak.’ Kana rolled her eyes
“Well I wasn’t looking to get the shit beat out of me and I see no one around here who could even if I was.” She mocked but it just made his smirk even smugger if it was at all possible.
“Your petty remarks can’t hurt me.”
“Really now? Are they petty? Well maybe I should try harder.”
“You have no right being here.”
“That’s funny I thought it was a free world my bad.” She acted innocent but she couldn’t help but smirk.
“You’re wrong, now as it is custom unannounced intruders are killed.”
“We’ll see about that lets go.” Kana nodded before disappearing and reappearing in the courtyard below. Nakago followed in suit reappearing about ten feet away from her.
“Go ahead, I’ll give you a free shot seeing as I know I’ll win.” He uncrossed his arms and let them fall to his sides.
‘Cougar grant me swiftness
Black bear grant me strength
Raven grant me flight
Spirits grant my courage length.’ She thought to herself before charging towards Nakago and jumping in the air only to have her foot land in the middle of his chest, the blow was hard enough to knock him backwards so he was lying on his back; Kana landed in a crouch next to him. Nakago sat up immediately and Kana could tell he was pissed; the symbol on his forehead was glowing vibrantly.
“Cheap.” He spat before striking her with his mind, his main objective was to lower her chi and kill her off. Kana screamed at the intensifying pain she felt surging through her but grit her teeth.
“So that’s it? And you call me cheap. You’re going to kill me the same way yo-you killed your mother?” She growled before Nakago released her but quickly picked her up by her throat and held her so her feet dangled about three feet above the ground. Instinctively Kana put her hands around his wrist.
“How do you know about my mother?” He demanded jolting her in his hand.
“I know a lot more than you think I do. How she was being raped and you claim that you tried to save her but really you killed her not the men who were attacking her.” Kana spat before he threw her to the ground full force making an indent in the grass and knocking the wind out of her. Kana lay on her side one arm straight out the other draped over her abdomen as she took in lungfuls of air raggedly.
“You don’t know what it’s like… how could you? I know you aren’t from this world which means you probably grew up in a great family with plenty of love and where the rapists weren’t running free.” Nakago began to explain as Kana closed her eyes and focused on Chichiri.
********
Chichiri was sitting in his room when suddenly he felt Kana’s life energy, it was a weak signal but it was hers he had no doubt. Standing he made a fist in front of his face with his index and middle finger sticking straight up before searching for her location starting facing the South than going around clockwise he stopped when he was facing the East. Finally realizing she was in Kutou and in bad shape he went to find Mitsukake.
*******
“You have no idea what it is like to lose someone dear to you but you will soon Kanashimi make no doubt of that you will lose the one dear to you and I’ll make sure of it.” He walked over and lifted her head by her hair so she looked him in the eye. “Because I will kill them myself and I promise you will watch.” He threw her head back against the cold blades of the grass before walking away. Kana lay there motionless staring ahead of her blankly and knowing she had officially achieved at sending Nakago off of the deep end, she also knew he was serious with his threat. Closing her eyes she felt Chichiri close by and the cool night breeze sweep her hair back before drifting into unconsciousness.
********
Chichiri arrived in the Kutou courtyard and spotted Kana immediately, she was lying on the ground on her side and appeared to be unconscious. Running over he carefully turned her on her back and looked her over. Her chiffon vest was ripped and falling off her shoulder along with other numerous rips to her outfit. A small cut was above her right eye along with some dry blood and many bruises were visible on her arms along with some other minor cuts. Carefully Chichiri rolled her into his arms and stood up before looking around the courtyard and disappearing.
********
“Mitsukake.” He whispered once he was back in his room, Mitsukake had been standing by the window waiting for him to return. Mitsukake walked over and put his hand above her face before a warm green glow was emitted.
“She’s had a pretty good fight with someone but it seems she got the worst of it, and if she didn’t I’d hate to see the person who did.” Mitsukake whispered before the glow dimmed and then disappeared all together.
“Is she going to be okay though?” Chichiri questioned before Kana moaned softly and opened her eyes in slits.
“Dude turn down the high beams.” She groaned before putting a hand over her eyes.
“She should be back to normal with a little rest.” Mitsukake smiled.
“Oh, hiya Mitsukake how ya doin’?” Kana whispered with a grin. “Oh look and Chichiri too it’s a genuine party.”
“And maybe a little ice for her head.” Chichiri added before Mitsukake laughed.
“Just make sure she gets some sleep I’ll go see if I can find Hotohori.” He turned to leave but Kana stopped him.
“Mitsukake please don’t tell Hotohori, can this just be our little secret, between the three of us.” Kana pleaded and Mitsukake shook his head.
“If you wish it.”
“Thank you.” Kana whispered before he left the room Kana attempted to stand but forgot to acknowledge the fact she was in Chichiri’s arms and ended up on the floor on her ass.
“Owe, watch that first step it’s a killer.” Kana muttered as Chichiri helped her into a chair so she could sit down. “Thanks… so you sensed me that’s good.” She whispered with one hand to her forehead and the other still on his shoulder.
“Yeah I did lucky for you, Kana what were you doing in Kutou? Do you have a death wish or what?” He questioned before she laughed.
“No, no not quite… well I do but not like that. I was trying to warn… never mind.” Kana shook her head before leaning her head against Chichiri’s shoulder and wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Thank you for being there Chichiri, you probably saved my life.” She whispered before he wrapped his arms around her tiny frame and rested his cheek on the crown of her head.
“It was a life worth saving.” He whispered back. They sat there for a moment, Kana took in his scent, he smelled like the forest that piney- non-pinesol kind of smell that only a traveler can have. Suddenly the door opened and Kana and Chichiri felt someone glaring at them. Looking up Kana saw Nuriko standing in the doorway eyeing the two suspiciously. The two jumped away from each other blushing while scratching the backs of their heads and stuttering trying to come up with an excuse.
“You see we were just ah… you see, ummm…” Kana stammered as Nuriko continued to glare at her.
“You two were making out!” He yelled at the top of his lungs. The two looked at each other before turning dark shades of red and looking away from each other.
“We were not I went to sit down and stumbled and he simply caught me. There’s nothing ecky about it, just a good catch. Admit Nuriko you know I’m a klutz.” Kana raised an eyebrow in anticipation before Nuriko rolled his eyes and the two could here him muttering as he walked away.
“Fumble-ina.” Chichiri took in a deep breath and let it out with a shrug of his shoulders as Kana shook her head.
“That was really close no da.” Chichiri plopped down in a chair before looking up to Kana who stood near the door.
“I better leave before he comes back with Hotohori or something, Thank you again Chichiri, I don’t know…” He waved his hand to signal her to stop.
“Don’t worry Kana like I said it was a life worth saving.” She smiled before leaving and summoning Subaru again.
*****
“And than he had the nerve to call me Fumble-ina, I wasn’t intended to hear it but… anywho.” Kana explained everything that had happened as she lie on her bed on her side watching the candles.
“So you like this Chichiri person.” Subaru whispered before Kana sat straight up.
“What are you imposing?” She cocked her head.
“Nothing, nothing at all but the way you talk about him… it seems you have a crush on him.” She giggled which just made Kana furious.
“I can have friends you know!!” She huffed crossing her arms over her chest.
*****
Back in his room Chichiri also was lying on his bed but suddenly he sensed another life force surrounded by the power of… Byakko? It was so close, a mere three rooms away from his and Kana was in the same room. At the thought that Kana might be in danger, again, he got up and went to the room.
*****
Kana and Subaru laughed at the thought of Kana being three inches tall from the Thumbelina crack before the door flew open and Chichiri stood there looking around prospectively.
“Chichiri? What the hell is your problem?” Kan snapped looking at the man who had a confused look plastered to his face on top of his mask.
“I can still sense it, and it’s strong but where??” He wondered aloud before Kana shook her head.
“Sense what? There’s nothing in my room except me.” She stood and gave him a perplexed look.
“There’s a Byakko seishi in here, I can sense it but there’s no one here I don’t understand what’s going on.” He mumbled before he heard Subaru’s quiet giggle.
“Your perceptive, this must be the man named Chichiri I have heard so much about.” The voice guessed as Chichiri looked around intrigued.
“Who are you and what do you want?” He gave the darkness a threatening look.
“That’s just Subaru Chiri, chill she’s friend not foe.” Kana shook her head and rolled her eyes.
“But I sense Byakko also.” He whispered.
“You are correct, Kana I think you better sit down.” Subaru whispered.
“No, I’m fine where I am but would someone mind telling me what the hell is going on?!?!?!?!?” She yelled before the door shut behind Chichiri and he jumped.
“I’m not going to hurt you Chichiri so relax.” Chichiri eased and stared at the alter set up on the table in the middle of the room. “For a while now myself and Kana have been communicating, she thinks I am of the spirit world but I am not. I am a living breathing person. My real name is Hahm, Doulin but my seishi name is Subaru. I am a member of the Byakko seishi and am over 100 years old.” Subaru explained as Kana went pale.
“So you’re telling me I’ve been linked to this world the entire time??” Kana questioned.
“Yes, I heard your plea and in order for you to maintain safety I surrounded you with a red glow and set you in a desert in Konan. You may remember my husband Tokaki, I sent him to get you after hearing your wish to leave.” She explained, as Kana grew paler and more infuriated.
“So you’re the reason I’m here? You’re why I was brought into this world? Endured all of this pain? You did all of this Subaru?” Kana whispered the last part as her vision went fuzzy and the room began to spin, she sat her hands on her temples and propped her elbows on her knees.
“Yes, Kana but I only did it because you asked.” Those were the last words before Kana collapsed into unconsciousness. Chichiri caught her before she fell forward and hit her head on the wooden floor.
“Kana?” He whispered tilting her head back.
“She’s fainted.”
“Couldn’t imagine why.” Chichiri growled lying the girl back in er bed before turning back to the darkness.
“I imagine she won’t want to talk to me for a while so I shall go, take of her Chichiri you two need each other more than you think.” Subaru’s last words got softer before the candles extinguished and the room went dark, the only light was what seeped in through the window fr
