Getting to the Point
Kuragari:(A/N: To My reviewer MINA, you probably won’t be back to read this chapter but I wanted to say sorry this isn’t what you thought it would be. If you really would love a Yamachi college fic full out though, I’d be happy to get one started for you… just leave a prompt for a story you’d like to see written in a review and I’d be happy to see what I can do for you. There aren’t enough Taito fics out there. :) )
Tai turned back around with a smirk as he finished his greetings with the bouncers. It seemed he had successfully kept his outings to Token quiet if Matt’s reaction was any indication. The bouncers, both ex-police officers who had left the force after finding they had ‘singular’ tastes, knew Tai by name.
A tall, built-like-a-freight-train Redhead on the left who went by ‘Twiggy’, no one knew why, and a stocky blonde on the right named Jerry. He looked small but Tai had seen the man throw hustlers twice his size across a room.
Tai had been coming to Token for nearly two and a half years during his nights off on the weekends. He had only ever told Sora and Kari, both rather supportive of his chosen sexuality, and they had both been helping him keep it quiet.
Well, tonight was as good as any for spilling secrets. And he couldn’t very well expect Matt to fess up without revealing some secrets of his own.
Completely ignoring Matt’s inquiry, Tai charged straight into the club, Twiggy and Jerry giving him playful smiles as they eyed his reluctant roommate.
Matt stared after the brunette’s retreating form. What the fuck? Now he was just going to pretend he didn’t exist? Tai had heard him… he had even turned and said ‘yeah, Matt?’ so what the hell?
The two bouncers at the door were giving him an expectant look before the red head finally spoke up.
“Aren’t you going in, babe?”
Matt blushed slightly before realizing how stupid he must’ve looked, gaping like a fish, and hurried after his errant roommate, not even giving pause to being called ‘babe’ by a total stranger. It happened a surprising amount at concerts and by now Matt was used to ignoring it.
“Tai?” the blonde called out once he passed the door, immediately overwhelmed by the pounding music and rush of body heat as he made his way into the club. He struggled through the mass of men inside, all varying ages dancing to pounding music with obviously erotic undertones. After what felt like an eternity of swimming in confusion, Matt felt the iron grip of Tai’s hand on his arm and he found himself being hauled through the moving mass of bodies.
Next thing he knew, Matt had been dumped onto an empty bar stool next to his room mate, who was currently leaning over the mahogany counter in order to flag down the bartender.
It wasn’t long before the bleached-blonde, slender young man waved at the two of them and hurried towards the brunette. Matt wasn’t particularly fond of the way the bartender was eying Tai. He had to admit, the man was attractive… if he could really call him a ‘man.’ Very tall boy would more be his pick. The kid looked just barely over 16, let alone old enough to be a bar tender. The boy was in a black cut-off T-shirt that was close to child sized and a red vinyl skirt that was only there to cover his crotch and little else. He was wearing fairly subtle make-up… well, compared to most of the other men sitting around the bar, and had several silver piercings adorning each ear.
“Tai-Tai!” the boy practically squealed as he did this awkward shuffle run over to the room mates. Matt soon found why as the blonde’s back leg popped in order to lean over and hug Tai across the bar counter. Turned out the boy was wearing nearly 7-inch heels. God only knew how he managed to work in those.
Tai returned the awkward hug and smiled charmingly at the boy, sending Matt’s stomach into knots.
“Hey Brandy! How’s the boyfriend,” Tai chuckled, swatting the boy’s arm as ‘Brandy’ returned to his rightful place behind the bar, only too aware of Matt’s eyes on him. He told himself he’d preen about the jealousy later as he tried to keep his eyes on Brandy.
“Oh he’s snagged some pretty little red-head for the night. I thought he’d like my little skirt, but I guess a thong beats my vinyl clad ass,” Brandy replied, laughing to show he wasn’t serious. His gaze shifted to the practically growling blonde but his smile didn’t even falter. “But enough about me, what about you’re hunky friend here? I’ve never seen him here before.”
“Yeah, I managed to drag some fresh meat in,” Tai laughed, throwing his arm around Matt’s shoulders. “This ‘hunky’s’ my room mate, Matt. Matt, this is Brandy the local slut.”
Tai grinned to take the sting out of the words and Brandy just laughed.
“Guilty as charged, nice to meet you,” the blonde extended a hand with bright red nails across the counter.
Matt did his best not to gnash his teeth at the ‘flirty’ tone his friend was using. Even if Brandy had a boyfriend, the look in his painted green eyes as he gazed at Tai said that he didn’t much care. When the attention was turned on him, Matt felt himself flush a bit at the praise and the arm around his shoulder, temporarily forgetting his annoyance. He reached out and shook the offered hand.
“You as well,” he managed to say, throwing a thoroughly confused glance at Tai which was promptly ignored.
“Just bring us the usual, doll,” his room mate ordered, slapping some money on the counter. Brandy pouted but accepted the bills.
“Pushy isn’t he?” He threw at Matt before turning to mix their drinks.
“You like it!” Tai shot back, smiling at the laugh he earned. Finally, he turned his full attention to Matt, who was shooting him such a confused and lost look Tai almost wanted to burst out laughing again. He was cut off abruptly though as Matt stood and grabbed his arm.
“We need to talk,” the blonde said quietly, the steel look in his blue eyes sending a shiver down Tai’s spine. “In private for a second.”
Tai swallowed hard and nodded, effectively leading his friend through the throng of men in varying states of dress and to the second story. The conversation he had been both eagerly anticipating… and horribly dreading was about to be underway and he wanted them to have as much privacy as was humanly possible in a gay club.
Luckily for him, Token’s upper level was equipped with it’s own bar and sectioned off booths that looked down onto the dance floor. Each balcony held a couch, a table, and thick curtains one could pull for privacy. They were separated from the other booths by a wall on either side, but security cameras ensured nothing other than heavy petting would occur. That’s what the back rooms were for… at a price of course.
Tai found an empty booth near the end of the row and entered first, holding the curtains aside for Matt before pulling them completely closed. This was it. The moment he had been planning, and avoiding, for years. He just prayed that his timing was right and that Matt wasn’t going to run scared. Just because his friend was lusting for him, it didn’t mean the blonde was ready to discover that Tai felt the same. Not to mention Matt might not even be interested in undertaking any kind of relationship at the moment anyway. Taking a deep breath, Tai turned nervously determined brown eyes to questioning blue.
“What’s up Matt?” Tai asked, trying to play innocent still. From the look on Matt’s face, he was failing.
“Tai… what are we doing here?” Matt asked sternly, obviously bound and determined to get his answers. “And don’t tell me it’s only for my birthday!”
Tai stopped himself before he could start and was a little ashamed under Matt’s knowing gaze that he had really almost used that excuse again. True he had wanted to celebrate with Matt tonight, but it would’ve been an outright lie if he said that’s why they were there.
“Are you… are you…”
Matt broke off with a shaky sigh and rubbed the back of his neck, his cheeks turning an adorable shade of pink as he struggled to put his racing thoughts into words.
“Tai… I don’t know how else to phrase this…” the blonde started, resorting to something that had always worked well with the athletic brunette… being straight out blunt.
“Tai… is this a less than subtle attempt to tell me your gay?”
