Ch. 6:
Emotions and memories were all Lucy could hold onto in the months that had passed since Loke's disappearance. She was drowning in an abyss of her own sadness and everyone in Fairy Tail could feel the depths of bleak feelings. Darkness had begun to consume Fairy Tail each time Lucy passed through the doors of the guild hall. Her gloomy expression clouded her once bright and beautiful features. Even, her posture and expression foretold of the nightmare which were weighing down those slender shoulders and left her gaze so lifeless.
Many of the members attempted to approach her and comfort her, but she always shoulder them off with a simple look before dragging her feet towards her favored barstool. Each step sounded heavy just like her heart. It was like someone had turned off the brilliant glow of her heart.
"Lucy…? Hey, Lucy.."
A muttered voice broke the silence of Lucys' thoughts which caused her to slowly shift her gaze towards the person speaking to her. Before her eyes stood the all-around handsome raven haired male ripped like a Greek God. Every inch of Gray's body screamed Apollo himself, but Lucy could hardly focus on the half-naked Ice mage when the image of a dashing prince with a brilliant mane of orange hair was lingering in her thoughts.
Lucy simply sat in silence as she lifelessly stared at Gray. There was no compassion, curiosity or concern behind the depths of her gaze. It was just the look of despair and emptiness.
"Uhm…uh. Hey there blondie! I was just wondering why you didn't go on that S-class mission with flame brain to get things off your mind."
Gray was struggling to conversate with the distraught blonde haired summoner. For many months, she had closed herself off to everyone but Natsu and himself. Even then, it was a struggle to pull any information, emotions or reactions out of her. Like the time he had accidentally punched her boob when in the heat of a brawl with Natsu. Her reaction seemed anything but the normal Lucy. Hell, he wasn't going to complain about feeling the plump mounds of flesh, but he sure as hell thought Lucy would complain. They even seemed bigger than normal, but that wasn't something he was about to mention in front of his broken-hearted friend who simply shrugged off the incident and walked away. Even Natsu noticed Lucy's strange reaction and ceased his booming laughter at Gray. Natsu always seemed like a dim-witted Dragon Slayer but he was keen about sensing Lucy's sadness.
"I haven't been feeling good lately. Sorry to disappoint," answered the less than enthusiastic Lucy.
"Oh, no big deal, Luce!" He patted her back playfully hoping to rub off some of his good feelings and energy onto her. Unfortunately, her reaction was less than pleasant. She simply coughed and shouldered off his touch like she had done with the rest of the Fairy Tail members.
Gray was starting to become desperate. He decided that any sort of conversation to distract her was going to be good enough. But he became less than tactful with his next statement to distract her.
"Well, I…uh…know it's a bit late to say this, but I wanted to apologize for that one night….you know.." He awkwardly hesitated as he brought up the past.
"I know you secretly forgave me because I am your teammate, but I still wanted to apologize, Luce."
Once again, she gave a half-hearted response that showed her level of interest in the matter.
"It's alright. I needed an eye opener... Besides, it led me to falling for Loke."
The moment Lucy spoke his name; a chill would run down her spine. The soft whisper of a familiar voice echoed in her mind. For so long, Lucy had avoided saying HIS name. Now that she spoke it, it seemed to soothe her aching heart. The chill, the soft whisper and even the sweet scent of her beloved Lion was bombarding all of her senses. It was like a glimmer of hope in the depths of her despair.
"Lucy…Hey Lucy!? You okay?"
Gray's voice seemed to fade slowly away from reality as Lucy swayed upon the barstool. Her body felt light and her flesh became pale. Each sound and sensation was heightened, but her mind was solely focusing on speaking Loke's name. Then, her mind went completely blank as she slid off the barstool with a THUMP!
"Holy shit! Luce!" Gray kneeled before Lucy who looked paler than a ghost. The moment he wrapped his arms around Lucy to support her body; he could feel just how warm her body had become. The temperature of her body escalated to a temperature that matched Natsu's scorching fist. This was not good. In Lucy's current mental state, Gray knew she would be fighting for her life. Her body was not ready for the onslaught of an illness as she lay within his arms now.
All members of the guild rushed to Gray and Lucy's side as they heard Gray shouting. In the midst of the chaos, the little blue haired Dragon Slayer pushed her way through the crowd to get to the pair. Delicately, she placed herself on the opposite side of Gray.
"P..please back up everyone." She shyly murmured but no one heard.
With what sounded like a loud roar, Gray shouted, "Back the fuck up for Wendy!"
A soft blush tinted Wendy's cheeks as everyone immediately took giant steps away from her and Gray. Wendy would bow her head in thanks to Gray as she began to run her fingertips along Lucy's temples.
The type of power Wendy used was a form of cleansing and detecting magic. It was the element of wind in a purified form that washed over Lucy's body like an air purifier. Wendy knew how important it was to detect the source of calamity within Lucy so that she could heal her. The magic would be able to slowly cleanse Lucy of the fever while Wendy investigated the location of the illness.
Slowly, Wendy traced her fingertips over any parts of Lucy's exposed flesh. Wendys' eyes were shut tight as she focused all her energy on the celestial mage. Then, her fingertips would hover over one particular spot which led to Wendy yelping in shock. The power emanating from Lucy was immense and overwhelming even for Wendy.
"Oh my…." Wendy whispered under her breath.
"What is it, Wendy!?" Gray shouted aloud causing the entire guild hall to vibrate with his worry and confusion.
Slowly, Wendy looked up into Gray's troubled gaze and whispered. "Lucy's pregnant."
Silence fell upon the guild members of Fairy Tail before they shouted…"WHAT!?"
The Celestial World was all a buzz about the traitorous spirit, Leo.
There were whispers of his incarceration and the trial soon to come for his punishment.
In the meantime, nobody knew exactly where he was kept. They had such a deep connection to Leo that each one of them wished to defy the king for Leo's sake. If they had known; then, each spirit would defy all Celestial laws just to free him.
The other Celestial Spirits had no idea that Leo was trapped deep within the Celestial King's own kingdom like a caged lion at a circus. The very essence of Leo's magic was being sapped by heavy golden shackles which burdened his wrists. Those shackles seemed to mimic the weight of his heart. Heavy. Even his head hung low like his heart
Lokes' knees were scuffed up from the hardened floor while his wrists bore the pain the restraints had caused which made his flesh raw. He was truly a trapped lion bound to his duties instead of experiencing freedom with his lioness. Why couldn't he live an ordinary life with his golden haired lioness?
"Lucy….my lioness….Save me from this nightmare." He murmured.
All he could do to keep his sanity was speak her name. It was the only name that was heaven to his ears and eased the ache in his heart. Loke wanted to touch her so bad. One last caress was all he needed to ease the pain and fear that Lucy might have of not seeing each other again.
A lot guttural growl would escape his parted lips as his frustrations consumed him. Lucy was HIS mate! Not even the Celestial King could stop him from desiring HIS woman! With each curse towards the Celestial King, he would yank on the chains a little harder allowing the clash of metal to reverberate throughout the kingdom.
"Moustache face! Bring your ass out here and talk to me like a man!"
His words fell on deaf ears as the lion hung around waiting for the mysterious king to appear. The Celestial King was normally the type to console his dear celestial friends but even the King had fears of betraying Celestial Law all for the sake of the Noble Lion Spirit who roared for his soul mate in vain.
"Damn it!" Loke cursed. "I WILL come back to you, Lucy…please wait for me!"
Lucy helplessly lay within Grays' arms as the guild huddled around her. Their wide eyes and worried expressions were fixated upon her pale form waiting for her to awaken. After a few minutes, Lucy slowly opened her eyes to find that all of Fairy Tail was crowded around her. It took her a moment to realize just how dire the situation must have become. Self-consciously, she curled up within Grays' arms. She didn't necessarily feel safe there like she had in Lokes' arms, but it was something familiar to her that she would allow this one time.
Gray took notice of Lucy's troubled expression. He could even feel the anxiety rubbing off on him as she pressed up against his bare chest. Why was this golden haired girl so fragile? It scared Gray just how overwhelmed he felt wanting to protect her. She was the one girl he was about to "hit it; then quit it" but now, she was becoming the object of his desire and worry. What the hell was wrong with him? Why did he have to start caring when Lucy was pregnant of all things!
"I am taking Lucy back to her apartment. "
The guild silently stared at Gray. He carried such command in his voice that it intimidated even Master Makarov.
"Wendy, I'll need you to drop by in a couple of hours to check up on her state of being but for now, she needs her space."
Wendy replied with a silent nod while the rest of the guild stepped away from Lucy and Gray. With a firm grip, Gray picked up Lucy's frail body and headed towards the guild hall exit. In the midst of silence, a loud cry erupted from Natsu as he dashed towards the two.
"Lucy!? Are you okay!? Who's the father!?" Natsu bluntly shouted out.
A confused look danced across Lucy's features as she looked at Natsu who was flailing about like Happy on catnip.
The entire guild smacked their faces in utter frustration with Natsu's airheaded and tactless comment. The only one to even respond to Natsu was Gray himself. With one swift movement, Gray knocked Natsu out cold with an icy fist.
"Dumbass Flame brain….." He grunted as he stepped over Natsu's lifeless body with Lucy in his grasp.
Gray was going to make it up to Lucy for his past transgressions. He was going to be the one to look after Lucy who was so alone in a world of sorrow. This time, he would prove himself a loyal friend to Lucy.
"What's going on…?" Lucy whispered under her breath. They were the only words she had courage to speak when looking into Grays' eyes.
As Gray carried Lucy down the busy streets of Magnolia; he would gaze upon Lucy's chocolaty irises with such concern for her well-being.
"Uhm…Lucy…you're going to be a mother and I know that Loke is the father….." He allowed a long pause to transpire so that he could see just how Lucy would react to his words. Her features contorted into one of pain, shock and fear which forced Gray to quickly continue on with what he needed to say.
"I know he isn't around anymore but…..I mean, if it's alright with you….I can help you with the child. Be like a surrogate father…or whatever they call it nowadays." Gray was obviously trembling from such a serious conversation. He'd stumble over his words and stutter because he knew the importance of just what he was saying to Lucy at that moment. He was condemning himself to a world of responsibility if she accepted. It wasn't something he thought he was ready for, but he owed it to this woman.
"Gray...Thank you."
It looked as if Lucy's eyes had changed into glimmering jewels as she began to tear up. She was wearing her heart on her sleeve and it was growing more and more difficult for her to hide her emotions.
"I…I will be okay. This is MY punishment for offending the Celestial King."
She hesitated a moment before whispering under her breath. "I just…wish I could see him one more time and tell him the news. I don't know if it's good or bad at this point."
The thought of bearing Loke's child had never crossed her mind. Lucy never thought it was possible to have a child with a Celestial being. Was it going to hurt? Was it going to kill her? Or would it be a miracle? Lucy had no clue and could barely accept the idea that she was even pregnant.
"Is this really my reality or a dream…?" She whispered to herself as Gray settled her down upon her bed.
"No….it's a nightmare without HIM."
Before Gray could respond, Lucy was fast asleep with a troubled look upon her features. If only he could drive away the fear Lucy had deep within her isolated heart. Was she even going to survive her own nightmare while he stood there begging to help her? Or was she doomed to a life of anguish because of her choices? He wondered if Lucy was strong enough to bear through her own sins and be a strong single mother to a child with unknown powers, personality and possibilities.
