Soul Cleaver
By Haunter Rayne
Chapter 6 - Outside Rumors
The scene in Rayne's small apartment was grim after help had arrived. Two adults from the DWMA we're now kneeling over the boy who lay winching on the bed. Scarlett was glad she had the forethought to dress both Rayne and herself before the others had arrived. But joy was the furthest feeling from her mind as she sat in the corner holding her sister who was sobbing relentlessly. Autumn bawled into Scarlett's lap stared at Rayne with her face red and covered in tears. She felt responsible for having put Rayne in the situation he was in and the guilt would not allow her emotions to abide until she knew if he was going to be alright or not.
“You were smart to rush so quickly to get Marie and myself here. This wound needed immediate attention.” Professor Stein said as Scarlett and Autumn looked on. His fingers sped like the keys of a typewriter as he worked to restitch Rayne's chest back up. “It is unclear if the wound reopening will delay his overall recovery process. But I don't think that any real additional damage has been done to the injury.” Both of the twins let out a sigh of relief but it was cut short by a grumpy remark from the other instructor.
“Girls…” Marie began, sounding as if she were trying to be sweet but doing a poor job of masking her displeasure. “Tell me again how this happened? What did you say you two were doing with him?” An eerie dark aura seemed to be permeating from her as she was clearly interrogating the two of them. Marie had been with Stein in his office when Autumn came bursting in through the door. At first she seemed concerned about his well being but after hearing that both girls had been alone with Rayne in his apartment she had been glowering at them ever since.
“Uh, well…” Autumn began.
Shoving her younger sister aside Scarlett quickly began, “Well as you know, Rayne's injury is rather severe and we didn't want him left to fend for himself. What if he tripped and fell on his shoulder? What if he injured himself in his sleep and couldn't call out for help? So we decided to stay after escorting him home to make sure that he has an extra pair of hands around to help out.”
“Mhm.” Marie mumbled, not believing Scarlett's good intent for a second.
“Eh, well you see… Rayne had just finished getting out of bath and-”
“The bath?!” Marie shrieked as her mind clearly began filling with worries of lewd teenage behavior.
Scarlett however was now giving a flat expression, already feeling where this conversation was heading. “Yeah, the bath. You know, to soak and clean out his wound? Contrary to popular belief teenage boys do bathe you know.”
Marie scowled at the remark. “Yes but even if he is injured young boys and young girls shouldn't be-”
“I said he took a bath! I didn't WE bathed him!” Scarlett yelled. “He washed himself and then he came out. We were in the kitchen making him something to eat. When he was done he came out and was standing in front of the bathroom door talking to us. Even though he has long hair, he's still a boy so you can't expect that he would put his hair up in a towel like a girl would. We didn't realize how much water had dropped down to the floor. When he tried to walk he slipped and Autumn tried to rush to catch him. In a hurry to make sure he didn't hit the ground she accidentally grabbed him by his hurt side and it pulled his stitches! That's what happened!”
Marie now bit her lip while giving the girls a stern glare. She wanted to argue the point of indecency about them being alone together but couldn't find any holes in Scarlett's story. Everyone was distracted though when Stein suddenly stood upright. “It's over. I'm sorry.” All three girls tilted their heads to the side in confusion. “He's dead.”
The faces of both the girls went white and Autumn began seizing up as if she were unable to breathe. But that was when Marie grabbed a magazine from off the bedside dresser and started smacking Stein with it while he laughed sinisterly. “NO HE IS NOT! STOP MAKING JOKES THAT FREAK PEOPLE OUT!”
Suddenly he snatched the magazine away and spoke calmly as if nothing had happened. “He will be more tired than he otherwise would have been due to the additional blood loss. The signs of dehydration are apparent in him. However I can't seem to figure out the cause." Stein sighed as he cranked the screw running through his head. "Was he sweating a lot before the wound opened back up? It does kind of stink in here a bit.”
“”What?!” Marie shrieked, again her mind filling with life teenaged actions.
Balling up a fist in front of her face from frustration Scarlett yelled, “Alright, that's it! Everybody out Rayne's room so he can rest! Teachers, students, adults, everyone!” Slowly they all filled out of the room one by one and she closed the bedroom door behind them.
Stein walked up to the twins and placed a hand on each of their shoulders before saying, “Don't worry you two. This isn't your fault and I'm glad you're here taking care of him. The only thing to worry about is that Rayne seems to heal slower than other students his age. But in time I think that he is going to be just fine.”
“Thank you.” Autumn sobbed out and Scarlett gave him a smile.
“Okie dokie then.” Marie started to say before just awkwardly standing in Rayne's living room. “Time to go then.” She said but again nobody seemed to be moving.
“Okay.” Scarlett replied. Stein’s eyes couldn't be seen through the glare of his glasses as he leaned back grinning at the obvious tension between the girls.
“Okay…” Marie continued. “Time to leave.” She said as she started to sway back and forth.
“... So leave then.” Autumn said bluntly and Stein burst out laughing at how Marie's jaw dropped.
While the mad doctor continued his side splitting snickering Marie huffed angrily and yelled, “I'm waiting for you two to walk to the door with me!”
Scarlett raised an eyebrow. “Why? We aren't leaving, you two are.”
“But don't you two need to be going back to your rooms at the girl's dorm?” Marie asked.
“Eww no! We don't have rooms there.” Autumn said, sounding disgusted at the prospect.
“But…” Marie started as Scarlett and Stein walked her to the door.
“I think I get it.” Stein said to Marie reassuringly as he guided her out the door. As she looked up into Stein's eyes she suddenly became aware that she was standing outside. “The girls don't live in the dorm. They've taken up permanent residency here in Rayne's house.” Stein stated as if he didn't have a care in the world.
“WHAT?!” Marie shouted before looking back seeing Scarlett smirking with her hand on the door. Instantly it slammed shut and a loud click from the lock could be heard. Scarlett leaned her back against the door and gave an accomplished grin to her sister as they both heard a loud banging coming from the outside. “You open this door right now young lady! It isn't right! You three are too young to be liv- what are you, unhand me Stein! No! This isn't over! It's not right!” The twins listened as her voice trailed off, no doubt being dragged off by the other professor.
“You enjoyed slamming that door in her face.” Autumn said with a coy smile.
“I did. I really did.” Scarlett laughed. Then she wrapped an arm around her sister and said, “Come on, let's go lay down with our boyfriend. I think I need a nap after all this.” Autumn nodded while wiping the tears from her eyes.
The two of them wasted no time in sliding back into the dark bedroom where Rayne was already laying fast asleep. Scarlett took his right side while Autumn took his left just as they had before. But Scarlett watched as her sister left a gentle kiss on their boyfriend's forehead before whispering, "I'm so, so sorry…" Neither of them spoke after that as both twins laid their heads down and almost instantly fell asleep against the warmth of Rayne's sides.
- Meanwhile in the DWMA -
“CROOOONNNNAAAAAA!!!!!” A loud shrieking voice screamed it's way through the halls of the DWMA. Students were knocked out of place like bowling pins as a blonde girl came rushing passed. Eventually the thin boy with pink hair looked nervously down the hallway as a screaming girl came charging toward him with an angry boy chasing close behind her.
“Maka will you stop running through the halls like a lunatic?!” Soul shouted as he struggled to keep up.
“Crona!” The girl yelled out after ignoring Soul completely. As soon as she saw the pink haired boy she quickly threw her arms around him. “Crona! Are you okay?! I heard that you got hurt going on a mission last night. I'm so sorry that I pushed you to go out on your own! Please forgive me and tell me you're ok-OWW!” She yelled as a fist stretched out from Crona's elbow and punched her atop her head.
“Will you let go of us you crazy girl?!” Ragnarok shouted as he popped up from out of Crona's side. “If he still did have any injuries then you would be making them worse by squeezing us so tight!”
In a bashful voice Crona tried to reprimanded his partner. “No Ragnarok, don't hurt Maka. She's our friend and she is just expressing that she was worried about us.”
“Hmph, worried about you maybe.” Ragnarok said as he crossed his arms looking sour.
Finally taking a moment to catch her breath, Maka looked to them and said, “I'm glad that you are both okay, really. But what happened? I heard that you went on a one star mission with an underclassman to observe and then everything went south from there.” A small crowd was beginning to gather of older and younger classmen alike. It was then that Soul finally caught up but he just dropped his hands to his knees being far too exhausted to speak.
Meanwhile Crona just nodded being otherwise oblivious to his surroundings. “Uh, yeah… Well you see, I made a new friend here at the academy. And…”
“WHAT?!” Maka yelled excitedly, once again becoming overly loud and drawing even more attention to herself. “You made a new friend? On your own? That's so great!” Her voice had gotten high pitched like she was going to cry and she began hugging Crona as if she were a mother congratulating her child on winning an award.
“Hey! Will you let go of us?!” Ragnarok yelled again and then started beating on the back of Maka's head while chanting, “Let, go! Let go! Let, go! Let, go!”
Shaking him off Maka then looked excitedly into Crona's eyes saying, “Tell me everything! Who are they? Where do they go to school? Ahhh, are they a student here? What is his favorite color? Oh wait, is it even a boy? Ahhh, did you find a girlfri-?!”
“No, no! Shut up! Maka, please stop. You're embarrassing me.” Crona protested as he half heartedly put his hands over her mouth. Maka giggled at his bashfulness but nodded to show that she would relent.
Having recovered from his run Soul slapped Maka on the back hard enough to leave her quivering from the sting. “Not cool, just not cool at all. First you go scaring half the school by running around like a maniac, then you ask a boy to explain his failures in front of a bunch of onlookers. Come on, you're a better friend than that.”
Now the blonde girl looked around to notice for the first time just how many other students were actively watching them. But before she could respond Crona whispered out, “No, it's fine. It helps me to adapt to spending time around others. I'm still not used to it yet but I think I can deal with it now because Maka treats me like I'm normal just like everyone else.” Speaking more in a normal volume now Crona announced, “My new friend IS a student here but he attends one of the Not classes. We don't actually know a lot about each other yet but his name is Rayne and he is really nice when he talks to me. He… he said that he thinks I'm… a badass.”
Maka went totally still as that was the last thing she expected to hear. Soul just laughed out and raised a fist to about shoulder level in front of Crona. “Haha, hell yeah man! Crona, you are so totally a badass.” Crona could tell that the other boy was being sincere. He smiled as he gave a fist bump back to Soul.
“I don't know why, because I just met him, but I feel comfortable around Rayne." Crona shyly explained. "Like, it's as if he gets some part of me that other people don't understand. And, I like that idea… you know… of me… being… a…”
But Crona was interrupted as Ragnarok grabbed his face and started pinching it. “Stop mumbling and just spit it out! Say what you mean already!”
“Okay! Okay! I'm sorry! I like the idea of me being a badass, okay?!” Crona yelled as everyone in the hallway watched on.
Maka however was more grimacing than smiling at the news of Crona's new friend. “Heh, well… yay. I'm so… glad, that you are making new connections all on your own Crona. Especially with… delinquents, who get rejected from the Eat classes because they act like they're too good for anybody.” Quickly Soul slapped Maka across the back of her head for that comment.
Crona just smiled excitedly though, “Oh no, Rayne doesn't act like that at all! He's kind and patient. He's really smart too, just like you Maka!”
Now her grimace grew wider as she tried too hard to force herself to not be insulted. “Oh, right, ha ha. Thank you, Crona. I just love how you compared me to someone who has been here for over two semesters without even being able to find a partner.” Again, Soul quickly smacked her across the back of the head again.
Literally pushing her out of the way now Soul stepped up to Crona and said, “Listen to me. It looks like this Rayne fellow has made a really good influence on you. Any friend of yours is a friend of mine. If you want, you can invite him over some time to hangout with the gang at our place?”
“Soul!” Maka whined. “Don't just invite strangers into our home without talking to me about it first!”
Loving it even more just because it was making his partner angry, Soul pretended he hadn't heard a word and continued to say, “And I want you to know that you are welcome to bring him over whenever you'd like… day or night… even if we aren't even home.” Soul really emphasized the end of that statement and looked so amused by himself seeing Maka about to blow her top in anger.
“That… can't happen right now.” The darkened tone of Crona's voice was enough to distract both Maka and Soul from their annoyance at each other. “It was my fault... I should have been faster. But there were so many of them.”
Now Maka placed a hand on Crona's shoulder asking, “Hey, it's okay. Tell us what happened.”
Looking glumly the pink haired boy said, “I took the one star mission and let Rayne come with me because I thought I would be able to handle it. It was just supposed to be only one murderer we were after. But we ended up being surrounded by a gang of thugs. Rayne fought really well for being unarmed but he got hurt while I was distracted by the leader of the gang we were fighting. One of them stabbed Rayne in the shoulder. And even still… with his stab wound… it was thanks to him, not me, that we were able to survive in the end.”
“Oh, I see.” Maka stated simply, now feeling bad that she had thought so disrespectfully about Rayne. “I didn't know that's what happened. Do you know if he’s okay?”
Crona shook his head. “I haven't seen him since we got back. The uh, end of the mission got complicated so we ended up reporting back to Lord Death directly.”
Maka now gave her cheerful smile that she used when she wanted to pretend like everything was okay. “Alright then. Want to go to the infirmary to see how he's doing?”
Ragnarok imitated a buzzer noise before saying, “Nope! Can't do that either. We don't know where he lives. When we all split up in the Death Room that Rayne kid got carried off to his ‘house.’ So he's not resting up here in the school and he doesn't live in the dorms either.”
Soul held his chin as he thought for a moment. “I'm sure we could find out. If we explained the situation to a teacher I'm sure they could help us. Or someone in his class must know where he lives.”
Maka nodded and turned to Crona asking, “Want to give it a try?”
Ragnarok had nothing more to say at this point and just looked to Crona for an answer. “Alright, sure. That sounds like fun.”
Then the three of them started walking off together to find out where Rayne lived. But as they made their way down the hall Soul couldn't resist adding, “And besides, this Rayne guy sounds like he must be way cool if he's a meister who could outshine the demon sword without even having a weapon in hand.”
“HEY YOU COME OVER HERE AND SAY THAT!” Ragnarok shouted angrily.
However as they departed, another onlooker made her way down the other end of the hall.
- Not Classroom Beta -
“Hillary,” … Damien said from his seat as he looked over across the classroom during their open study hall period, “it's a book, not a piece of food. Stop staring at it like you're going to eat it.”
The semi portly girl just looked up to him and scowled. “I'm not going to eat the book! I was concentrating! This chapter is hard! And don't make fun of my weight!”
Damien waived her off as if he were planning to drop the matter. But as things quieted down he couldn't help mumble to himself, “Well you chew your pencils…”
“What was that?!” She yelled as she lifted herself from her seat.
“That's enough!” Called out a commanding voice and the two students turned away from one another. Sitting at the teacher's desk was Mira Naigus, DWMA Intelligence Operative, substitute school nurse substitute class professor, and also the Weapon partner to professor Sid. “Look, just because I'm not your primary teacher here in the Not classes doesn't mean that I won't be even harder on you than Sid would be. This is just study hall so I don't mind if you want to talk, gossip, whatever. But I'm not going to let any of you start having at one another in a classroom. You got me?”
You could cut the tension left in the air with a knife, which was fitting because Mira just happened to be a knife Weapon. “Yes Ms. Naigus.” All the students said in unison. In total there were only four present at the moment. Hillary, Damien, and Brother & Brother. However not long after Katrina suddenly came barreling into the classroom.
“Hillary, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Have you heard the news?!” She squealed excitedly while trying to keep her voice down. Mira rolled her eyes disinterestedly while Damien raised an eyebrow, surprised that Katrina didn't come running to him first like she usually does.
Raising her finger up Hillary gave a stern expression and said, “First, help me understand what the heck this section is talking about… then you can tell me whatever the juicy gossip is.”
“Wha, ugh, fine…” Quickly whipping the text book around Katrina quickly began skimming through the passages of Adv Combat Maneuvers for Beginners. “He-.... a… when attacking from an elevated Y Axis… circumvent opponents parry or block by advancing with an ascending attack at the beginning point of your descent. The resulting contact should match the orientation of a X Axis maneuver but with the opponent left in an improper defensive stance.”
The whole room was quiet after Katrina had mumbled that aloud and it was Mira who spoke first asking, “What in the world are you reading over there?”
“I am trying to improve my fighting style so that I can stop losing during our sparring exercises!” Hillary yelled as she pulled on her hair frustration.
“Wait a minute… what edition is this?” Katrina asked as she checked the outside cover of the book. “Hillary, where did you even get this? You have the wrong text book for our class! Is this what you've been reading from all semester?”
“What?!” The cumbersome girl cried out in disbelief.
Katrina pulled a book of her from her own bag and pointed out the difference. “You are reading Adv Combat Maneuvers for Beginners. But this is an old addition. The book you should have is this one, Beginner Maneuvers for Adv Combat. See look at the author posting. Mine says, as transcribed by Mr. D. Eath. Just like most of our textbooks. Yours says, written by Eibon, whoever that is.”
“What?! This is ridiculous.” Hillary sulked.
But Katrina placed a sympathetic hand on her shoulder and said, “Hey, come on now. It isn't that hard. It just means that when you are attacking from the air, your opponent is going to expect to have to block upwards against your attack. So instead of swinging your mace down at them, swing upwards to catch them under their defense as you come down at them.”
Meanwhile Mira was rubbing her forehead in frustration because even she hadn't understood the question. “Hillary, please get rid of that old text book edition. Oh and I'll give a notice of extra credit to Sid for any student who can tell me who Mr. Eath is.” She sounded as if it pained her to even ask. But she was even more disappointed when none of the students seemed to figure out the terrible pun.
Katrina slammed the old book aside and went back to her earlier excitement. “Anyways… You're never going to believe what I just heard about Rayne!”
Hillary raised an eyebrow but then leaned back in her chair asking, “And why would I care about any news related to him?” That particular classmate wasn't Hillary's favorite topic of conversation but the grin that wouldn't wipe from Katrina's face kept her interested.
“Oh no, this is too good. Trust me.” The other girl nodded and everyone else in the room was clearly listening even as they pretended not to be. “So apparently last night Rayne thought that it would be a good idea to go on a mission, like a full stared mission, while still not even having a Weapon partner ha ha ha!”
This deeply caught the interest of everyone in the room and instantly Mira looked worried, wondering if she had to rush out to save a student. Hillary was also aghast asking, “What?! You mean on his own?! Is he insane?!”
Mira was halfway to her feet now when she heard Katrina say, “What? Oh no, pfft. That's what makes this so hilarious. Apparently he was totally sucking up to someone in the Eat classes so that he could go with them on one of their missions.” Mira gave a sigh of relief and took her seat again but now Damien was listening more intently.
“Wow, that's pretty weird.” Hillary said. “What does he think he is going to accomplish? Is he just trying to be cool?”
Now Katrina was laughing hard as she went on. “Well you see, that's just the thing. He totally wasn't cool on the mission. Apparently he must have messed everything up pretty bad because the meister he was with totally lost control of the situation. For someone who always talked a big game about wanting to fight up close and personal, he is starting off with a pretty sad record from getting stabbed in the shoulder on his very first time out. Apparently it was just by some nobody gangster too. And Rayne thinks he can help fight against a Kishin one day? Ha ha ha ha. Isn't that hilarious?”
But while Hillary didn't quite care for Rayne's character, she didn't find the humor in hearing that he'd gotten hurt. “Um, I don't really think…”
“Oh and guess what's happening now?” Katrina said, not even hearing what her friend was saying. “Some of the Eat students who heard about it want to treat him like a pity case and see if he's okay! But he's fine, I heard that Lord Death sent him home. They said they were going to ask his classmates if any of us know where he lives. But he's such a loser, as if any of us would want to go to his house. Wouldn't it be funny if we all pretended like we didn't even know who Rayne is?!”
Hilary was sitting there with an uneasy expression on her face. She literally did not know what to say in this situation, not quite being the social butterfly that Katrina fancied herself to be. Meanwhile, Brother & Brother joked with each other about the conversation that was being had down in the front of the class. “Rayne? Where do we find Rayne?” “Rain comes from outside. You go outside to find Rayne.” They both gave a hearty laugh together until Damien was the one who broke everyone's attention by slamming his book down on his desk.
“No, that isn't funny.” He said coldly.
“W-what?” Katrina asked in surprise.
While all of this was happening Mira had been carefully watching but she didn't think that it was she who needed to learn how to deal with situations like this. So unless things got out of hand, she decided wait to see how the other students would respond. Damien stood from his seat and then adjusted his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “I said, that isn't funny to talk about Rayne like that. He is one of our classmates. We study with him, we train with him. There is no one in our class who he hasn't tried to work with in sparring practice. And for your information, I do know where he lives.”
“But… wait, what?!” Katrina asked again, becoming more and more dumbfounded as to why the boy she looked up to the most was defending the boy she loathed the most.
“Did you forget? I was his partner. Not for a sparring match, not for a day. But for two months.” Picking up his book now he walked over to where Katrina was standing. “And he isn't a loser. I might be the best student in the class but I can honestly say that Rayne is a much better fighter than I am. Better than all of us actually. Don't forget that Rayne was supposed to be an Eat student. When his talents were assessed he was ranked for the advanced courses from the start. So don't go putting him down just because you weren't good enough to meet his expectations after giving up on him in a single day.”
Katrina was flabbergasted, the twins looked confused, Mira was trying to hide that she was smiling, and Hillary looked a little turned on by how assertive Damien was being.
“But… what?!” Katrina shrieked. “But this is Rayne we are talking about! He isn't even a good student. He barely gets better grades than Hillary!”
“Hey!” Her friend shrieked.
Now Mira casually interjected, “Actually, a little spoiler for you because I don't care about exposing Sid's secrets. Sid doesn't even grade Rayne's assignments like he does for the rest of yours. I've seen him at home looking at Rayne's name on an answer sheet and then skip over it. Rayne doesn't belong in this class. He might not be as bright as Damien here but it's a fact that Rayne could probably write your tests for you. The only reason why Sid keeps ambiguously giving Rayne B minuses and C pluses is to keep his skills up making Rayne think he needs to work harder. He doesn't want Rayne to quit the DWMA from getting bored.”
“Really? Hmm, well I can see the logic in that. A meister going rogue could be a dangerous thing.” Damien said as he contemplated this news.
Katrina now looked like she was going to pull her hair out. “You can't be serious. Damien, if you think Rayne is so great then why didn't you stay partners with him?!” She looked smug as if she had made a point of undeniable fact.
Damien just gave her a confused look. “Uh Katrina, I wasn't given a choice. I thought you knew this. Look, Rayne and I were great together. But we couldn't match our souls at all. It was Professor Stein who ultimately made the decision. He called us to his office for a special lesson but it was all a ruse because he was using Soul Detect the whole time.”
Katrina leaned back to half sit on Hillary’s desk as she listened to him continue. “Stein said that my soul was too rigid to embrace Rayne's carefree and accepting nature. On the other hand, when we would fight together Rayne's soul would explode and overpower mine making me effectively useless as a Weapon for him. My spirit couldn't keep up with the drive Rayne has to fight. Stein told us, verbatim, ‘You two will never be compatible together as partners. It would be better to change partners now then have to drag it out later.’ So we were split apart after that. Stein had the paperwork processed that night.”
Katrina looked stunned like her whole world was crashing down in her mind. Damien stepped closer and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Rayne did not miss out on getting the better partner. I did. Stein removed me from him because I wasn't Weapon enough for him. I would never be able to produce the advanced techniques for him like Witch Hunter because it would be like trying to fuel a racecar with a cellphone battery. To be honest, Rayne might make a better teacher than a meister one day because I can't imagine that any Weapon would be able to combine with his soul.”
Katrina dropped her head so that no one could see her face. “No… but… that, that can't be right. He was your partner and he walked out on you, right? …”
Mira leaned forward over the desk for a better view as a silence grew between the students. After a moment Damien adjusted his glasses and then chuckled. Pulling his hand away from Katrina he said, “I see now. So that's how it is.” Instantly Katrina looked up with a worried expression but Damien continued. “That's why you hate Rayne so much. He never even did anything to upset you, did he? You like me, for some reason, and you thought he betrayed me by walking out on being my partner. So you thought you would hate him on my behalf, never even realizing that I never had a grudge against him to begin with.” He stared her straight in the eyes. His face was steady as he waited for her to deny it. But instead she was shaking and grinding her teeth. No words came from the frustrated girl at all. “So then it's true.”
“Damien!.... Why?!” Was all she could say from the frustration of being publicly chastised by her classroom crush.
Turning his back to her Damien walked back to his desk. Then he scribbled something on a sheet of paper and took it over to where Mira was sitting. “Excuse me Ms. Naigus, could I ask a favor of you please? I am going to leave back to the dorms. It's a bit too noisy today in study hall for me. Now I don't know which students are looking for Rayne to check on him, but this is his home address. If anyone comes inquiring could you please pass this along to them? I know that if I were hurt on a mission I would appreciate a visit from the friends I had."
After that Damien picked up his belongings and left out the door. Katrina was left standing there with her jaw open until Mira turned to speak directly at her. “Katrina, I think that you need to come with me. We need to go find your professor to talk about the behavior you've shown to your other students. And while the decision isn't up to me, if I were you I would prepare myself to be suspended from classes for a few days.”
