Terra stood before Metalia’s throne, with one hand on the youma she had created. It looked like the skeleton of a triceratops, with crystals growing out of the bones, and from the edges of the shield on the skull. She had the background story prepared and in place, and she was prepared to go to Earth with the youma.
“Jadeite will accompany you, Tanzanite,” Metalia said. “It is not your abilities or loyalties I doubt, but I am not risking any of my generals on a solitary expedition again. Two pairs of eyes see more than one, and the two of you can guard one another’s backs.”
“Yes, My Queen,” Tanzanite responded. She bowed to Metalia and turned to Jadeite as he stepped forward.
“We shall return successful, My Queen,” Jadeite said. He bowed to Metalia and laid a hand on Tanzanite’s shoulder, before he teleported both of them to the museum.

Mamoru jumped in surprise when ChibiUsa put a section of the morning newspaper in his lap.
“Look at the middle.” she said.
He put down his fork and picked up the paper. In the center was an announcement for a special display at the Natural History Museum. According to the announcement, the fossilized remains of a triceratops had been found in a crystal bed, and the crystals had penetrated the fossilized bone and created a unique skeleton. It was going to be on display for the weekend only. Each visitor would receive a souvenir replica dinosaur egg with a replica embryo inside.
“That has to be it,” ChibiUsa stated. “I remember in school how fossils are made. They don’t get made where crystals grow. This is where she’s gonna be, and that’s her youma.”
“I have to admit, it makes sense,” Toshio said. “The note said to watch for the shield beast. I believe that particular creature had a kind of shield.”
“That’s true,” Mamoru said. “Okay, we go to the museum, ready for trouble.”
~*~*~*~
The museum was full to capacity, and there were more people waiting outside. All of the Senshi and Kishi had managed to get inside, though. Between Mamoru, Sean, and Takagi, they had influenced the curator enough to get all of them in before the doors opened. It was truly amazing what large donations would do.
They scattered around the gallery adjoining the closed room where the triceratops was. They watched the curator escort a black-haired woman and a blonde man into the room. The same blonde man came back out with a different woman and several boxes. They set them up on a table next to the door. When the blonde man turned to look over the room, Usagi gripped Mamoru’s arm.
“That’s Jadeite!” she exclaimed. “That must have been Terra that went in there!”
“So we get her back,” he said. “Kojiro, when she starts the attack, you zip up behind her, knock her on the back of the head, and get her to Toshio. Toshio will take her back to the house and lock her up, just to be safe. The rest of us will keep Jadeite occupied and we’ll do our best to cripple the youma before we leave.”
“Got it,” Kojiro said. He looked over at where Toshio was leaning up against a pillar and nodded to the other Kishi. Toshio nodded back, and assumed a bored posture. His position at the pillar kept him from Jadeite’s view.
Moments later, the doors to the special display were opened, and people began filing in. Each person who entered the room was given a small artificial egg, which came apart to reveal a replica of an infant triceratops curled up in the egg.
ChibiUsa kept opening her egg, looking at the inside, and then closing it again. She kept very close to Usagi as they passed Jadeite, and then she stayed next to Mamoru as they approached the mounted skeleton. The woman next to it did not look a bit like Lucinda. She was willowy, with black hair cut to her shoulders. She was wearing a khaki outfit of pants and a short sleeved shirt with pockets all over them. She was smiling at the people who passed, shaking the hands of adults and bending down to talk to children.
When Mamoru and ChibiUsa came up to her, she smiled a bit wider at Mamoru, and she kept hold of his hand longer than she had with the others. For just a second, her bright blue eyes, the same color as Mamoru’s, changed to hazel. Then, they were back to brilliant azure.
Mamoru quickly moved ChibiUsa on, and then he waited for Kojiro to come out of the queue.
Kojiro had barely come out when the outer doors to the museum all slammed shut. Jadeite and the woman next to the triceratops were surrounded by a darkling glow. The woman placed a hand on the skeleton, and it started to move. The crystals on its shield started to glow, and all of the people holding eggs wavered and fell to the ground.
Quickly, all of the warriors hid, transformed, and then stepped out into full view.
“Stop it right there!” Sailor Moon called out. “First you attack a library, and now the museum, where people come to learn! You are absolutely wicked and we will stop you!”
“Not you again, Sailor Brat!” Jadeite spat out. “You stopped me before, but there is no way that you can stop me now!”
“We can, and will, stop you Jadeite!” Sailor Mars shouted. “Let’s see what you think of this! Mars Blue Flame Rage!”
The attack blasted across the room, and caught Jadeite off-guard. He barely had time to raise enough of a shield to keep the attack from knocking him into the wall.
Jadeite counterattacked, spraying all of the fighters with rock shards. Kishi Mercury dashed off, hit the woman controlling the youma hard enough to stun her, scooped her up and dashed her to where Toshio was waiting.
Masato took Terra, whose appearance had reverted when she was hit, and then disappeared with her. Toshio pulled his necklace off of his neck, and transformed into Kishi Hyperion. He took a deep breath and then stepped out to where he was visible to Jadeite.
“Jadeite!” Hyperion called out. “This is between you and me!”
Jadeite stopped cold, staring at his double. He locked eyes with him, and then started towards Hyperion, his eyes hooded with anger.

When Tanzanite was hit by Kishi Mercury, Zoisite jumped to his feet with a cry.
“No, Zoisite,” Metalia snapped. “Stay here.”
“My Queen!” he objected. “I can find where they are taking Tanzanite! I can retrieve her!”
“No, Zoisite,” Metalia repeated. “You will stay here.”
Zoisite looked at Kunzite, and then collapsed between him and Soladite, a stricken look on his face.
“Jadeite, return!” Metalia commanded.
They watched anxiously while Jadeite retreated to the side of the youma. Just as he reached it, Endymion threw a rose that embedded itself in the shield of the youma and caused all of the collection crystals in the shield to darken.
When Jadeite appeared in the throne room, one hand on the youma, he looked as though he were angry enough to kill.
“My Queen,” he said. “May I speak with you privately?”
“Everyone else is dismissed,” Metalia said. “Strategies for retrieving Tanzanite will be considered starting after the coming rest period. Zoisite, Tanzanite will be retrieved.”
“I think we should catch one of them,” Soladite muttered. She levered herself up and helped Kunzite get Zoisite to his feet. They led him out of the throne room, murmuring to him the entire time.
Outside the throne room, Prince Galaxite looked at them with a sneer.
“You’re weak, Zoisite,” he drawled. “You let Tanzanite get soft. Her first youma was without a problem.”
Soladite turned to Galaxite, her face devoid of expression. Before he could react, she drew back her right arm and punched him in the face.
Galaxite dropped to the ground and slid across the floor to come to rest across the corridor.
He picked himself up, blood streaming from his nose, as Quartzite and Nephrite laughed.
“Let that be a lesson to you, Galaxite,” Nephrite said. “Never mock Soladite or someone she is close to. It will only lead you to pain and embarrassment.”
“I’ll wait here, Nephrite,” Quartzite said. “I want to know what disturbed Jadeite so much.”
“We all would, Quartzite,” Nephrite said. “Jadeite is almost as difficult to rattle as Kunzite.”
Quartzite nodded and leaned against one wall, prepared to wait as long as necessary for Jadeite to emerge from his conference with Metalia.

When the warriors returned to the Compound, Masato was sitting in the living room with Lucinda, both of them with tea in their hands. Lucinda put her tea down and stood up as the others came in. She held out her arms as they entered the door.
Usagi reached her first, throwing her arms around the older woman with a squeal. Mamoru and Thomas reached her directly after that, wrapping their arms around their partners, all of them crying in happiness.
“I still don’t feel you,” Thomas finally said. “Why is that?”
“We are still disconnected,” Lucinda said. “It is from my extended stay in the Dark Kingdom. Now, we need to get Aster back. After that, we need to retrieve the rest of the Guard.”
“That’s not necessary,” Taro said, stepping forward. “The only Guard missing is Atlas.”
“You mean that was not you?” Lucinda said, staring at him. “I knew that Nephrite was a copy, but I was equally certain that Zoisite was not.”
“I was Zoisite until our defeat by the Senshi a few years ago,” Taro said. “I remembered seeing Endymion, and I remembered you and Aster. I could not go back to what I was before our defeat. I rebelled against Metalia and she made a copy of me. I saw a copy of Atlas being grown when she had Nephrite collect me to erase my memories.”
“Nephrite put us at different places on the planet,” Toshio said, coming forward and putting an arm around Taro’s shoulders. “I was in San Francisco, Taro was in New York, and Masato was in Kuala Lumpur. It is conceivable that Yukio was put somewhere else.”
“How do you tell them apart?” Lucinda asked.
“The copies bleed green,” Masato said.
“Then Kunzite is not Atlas,” Lucinda said sadly. “He was injured while he was attempting to tame a wild youma. It lives in a desert region, and is called the White Demon. His blood is green.”
“Then we destroy him,” Haruka said sternly.
“NO!” Lucinda vetoed sharply. “Aster is very connected to him. Until we have Atlas, he is all she has. If you do not wish to destroy her, or make her choose between us and him, you will not harm Kunzite.”
“What about the rest of us?” Sean asked. “She’s connected to us, too.”
“’Cinda knows what she’s talkin’ about,” Vincent said. “Aster and I had a lot of talks with Prospero and Dreanne. We found out some things about our powers that none of us knew. Aster wrote it all down in the computer, but she passworded it. Some of it’s disturbing. I know she made some more notes after the Chrysanthemum Festival, but I don’t know what kind of info she would’ve gotten there.”
“What does that have to do with Atlas?” Haruka asked.
“It’s the power,” Vincent said. “Part of the reason that the Outers have more satellites is because they need the stability provided by that. Atlas being the General of the satellites makes him Sailor Sol’s point of stability, along with Sailor Venus and Sailor Uranus. Combining that with a soul bond was a recipe for disaster. Now, she’s gonna cling to anything she can get. If we try to make her choose, she might choose him. Then, we’d lose her forever.”
“So we have to rescue Kunzite,” Haruka said.
“We should rescue them all,” Taro said. “We all saw how Zoisite was. He doesn’t belong there any more than Aster does. Besides, there is no way better to pull the Black Queen’s talons than to deprive her of her Generals. It will take her time to empower and train more. It might give us the time we need.”
“I have news for Michie,” Lucinda said, looking at her adopted brother.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“Yoshi is in the Dark Kingdom,” Lucinda said. “He is Quartzite.”
“He has what he wants,” Michie said.
“He only thinks he does,” Toshio said. “It would be interesting if I faced him.”
“Do not make him choose,” Lucinda said. “Jadeite rescued him from Takara, and has loved him and taken care of him ever since. He will never willingly leave him.”
“I’m just glad that Takara doesn’t go for boys,” Michie said. “As bad as it was, it could have been worse.”
“Yes,” Lucinda said soberly. “It could have been much worse.”
“Let’s get down to business,” Usagi said. “We need to reconnect with you, and then we all need to figure out how to get Aster back.”
“It will not be easy,” Lucinda said. “She had not settled on a new youma yet, and her devotion to Kunzite is without exception. She will not leave him.”
“Then we have to kidnap her,” Haruka said. “I’m sure we can manage that.”
“I do not know about that,” Lucinda said. “She is immensely powerful. Her devotion to Kunzite has only increased her power, and his.”
“Let’s do this,” Usagi said. “Why don’t we go outside?”

Soladite, Kunzite, and Zoisite teleported to a reported disturbance, and stared in shock.
Tanzanite’s Jabberwocky was picking up fighters and throwing them as far away from it as possible. It was bleeding from numerous wounds, but nothing seemed to be slowing it down.
“Why aren’t they stopping it?” Zoisite asked.
“They can’t,” Soladite said softly. “The only way to kill a Jabberwocky is with a vorpal blade.”
“What is a vorpal blade?” Zoisite asked.
“I don’t know exactly,” Soladite said. “I know it makes an odd noise, and I know that Tanzanite would never have taken chances with her youma. The vorpal blade must be in her quarters, somewhere.”
“Can you find it?” Kunzite asked.
“I can try,” she said. “Be careful, Kuzite-sama. I … don’t want to lose you.”
“You will not lose me, Soladite,” Kunzite said. He brushed the knuckles of one hand down her cheek in a caress. “Get that weapon.”
Soladite closed her eyes and teleported away. She knew that Zoisite would not let anything happen to Kunzite, but she was still worried. The faster she found the blade, the sooner they would both be safe.
She looked around Tanzanite’s quarters, daunted momentarily at the sheer number and variety of weapons that Tanzanite had hanging on her walls. Swords, axes, spears, daggers, throwing stars, and blades she could not even name.
Soladite looked around desperately, asking herself where Tanzanite would have hidden such a vital weapon.
Finally, she saw a sword hanging next to the door. The hilt of the sword was shaped like a rabbit with a waistcoat on.
Encouraged, Soladite lifted the sword off of the wall and drew it from the scabbard. In every other respect, it looked like the sword in the drawing.
To be sure, she swung it experimentally, and was rewarded with the snicker-snack sound that she sought.
Soladite sheathed the sword and teleported away, hoping that Kunzite had not been injured while she was away.
As she appeared near the Jabberwocky, she was in time to see Nephrite catch Zoisite and set him on his feet while the Jabberwocky flung several more fighters away from it.
Soladite flew up to where Kunzite hovered, and presented him with the sword.
“I’m going to distract the youma,” she told him. “I have the strongest shields. When it’s distracted, you have to behead it to kill it.”
“It seems a pity,” Kunzite said, drawing the sword. “Tanzanite spent a great deal of time on it.”
“We have to destroy it,” Soladite said. She was distracted from anything further by a burst of power that made the Jabberwocky bellow, and then a scream of pain.
The two of them looked over to see Galaxite holding his face with bloody hands as several fighters hurried to protect him and to remove him from the battle.
“Now, Kunzite-sama!” Soladite said. She flew down across the Jabberwocky’s field of vision, her hands glowing with power. She threw a ball of glowing power at its face and retreated as quickly as she could.
The Jabberwocky was faster.
Before she could react, it caught her up in one massive hand, and then flung her away.
She flew through the air, completely disoriented. In the distance, she heard Kunzite bellow and the sound of the vorpal blade. She spun a solid shield around herself, which had the effect of slowing her down enough for her to stop turning over. Once she stopped rolling in midair, she could slow herself down so that instead of hitting the wall she was headed towards, she used it as a launching pad and propelled herself back.
She found Kunzite, Zoisite, and Nephrite standing together, looking at the Jabberwocky’s head, and a pile of dust that used to be its body.
Soladite landed lightly next to Kunzite. She stood staring at the head, with its jagged teeth and its bulbous eyes, and then turned her eyes to Kunzite.
Without warning, the sword hit the ground and Kunzite grabbed her off of her feet. His hands roamed all over her body, seeking blood, bruises, or any other injuries.
“Kunzitosama, I am uninjured,” she said softly. “I did not hit the wall, and the youma did not damage me.”
“I thought I lost you,” he said. “I suddenly realized, even with Zoisite, that I might not be able to live without you. Aishiteru, Soladite.”
“Aishiteru, Kunzitosama,” Soladite said, laying her head onto Kunzite’s chest. “I cannot conceive of life without you and Zoisite. We must get Tanzanite back. We are incomplete without her.”
“As you wish,” Kunzite said, wrapping one arm around her and using the other hand to draw Zoisite into his arms as well. “I can deny you nothing.”
