Aster and Setsuna climbed out of Aster’s Rolls Royce and looked at the fence facing them. They had arrived at a tent city erected as temporary shelter for hundreds of homeless and orphaned children found wandering the wreckage of Tokyo. A chain link fence topped with razor wire surrounded the tents, to keep casual observers and child predators out of the complex. The two women planned on checking for Satellites and taking them with them.
Almost as soon as they entered the gates, Aster spotted a familiar face and form. A young woman was supervising a group of very young children, between three and five years old, in a makeshift playground. She looked up at the creak of the gate, and her eyes met Aster’s.
“One,” Aster said to Setsuna. “This is promising. Maybe she’s recognized others.”
“Perhaps,” Setsuna said. “Amalthea was rather perceptive.”
The woman made her way to them, and smiled as if she didn’t know them.
“Good Morning,” she said. “I am Fujiyama Maru. I am one of the caretakers here. May I assist you? Are you looking for a lost child?”
“No,” Aster said. “I heard of the crisis, and I came to offer what help I could. I have a large house, and several friends and family staying with me. I could take care of a number of children.”
“I will get the administrator,” Maru said. “Are you looking for particular children?”
“Not exactly,” Aster said. “I’ll know better when I’ve spoken to the administrator.” She waited while Maru went to get the administrator.
While they waited, a girl of about ten years old, with blonde hair and blue eyes, walked up to Setsuna and touched her forearm lightly.
“Sailor Pluto?” she whispered. “I’m Elara. Will you take me with you?”
“Of course,” Setsuna said. She reached out and put a hand on the girl’s shoulder. “Do not worry, we will not leave without you.” She turned her attention to a man in a uniform that came out of the closest tent, with Maru behind him.
“I am Kishin, and I am in charge here,” he said. “Who are you?”
“I am Fushida Aster,” Aster replied. “We heard of the crisis regarding the children and I wanted to take some of them to my home. I have ample room, and with several friends and family staying with me and very few of them still having employment, I have more than enough people to help me with them.”
“You are very generous, Fushida-san,” he said, bowing to her. “How many children can you take?”
“Oh, as many as a dozen or so,” Aster said. “I would like to know if there are any children who seem to be having peer problems. Some, perhaps that look a little different, or seem a little … strange? These kind of children have the most difficulties, and I want to maximize the chances your other children have.”
“You should check with the caretakers,” he said. “I only deal with disciplinary problems. You have my leave to speak to anyone here. When you find children who interest you, come see me.”
“Thank you,” Aster said. She nodded to Setsuna, who gave a light squeeze to the child she had her hand on.
The man left them alone, and Aster turned to Maru, who was standing nearby.
“Have you recognized any others?” she asked.
“Some,” Maru said. “I can point you in the right direction, but I cannot gather them for you. Besides myself and Elara, there are three other of Jupiter’s Satellites, two of Saturns, three of Uranus’, and four of Neptune’s. If you can get them all out of here, the administrator would be most grateful. The only other person to ask about them was a man that Kishin-san did not trust.”
“Why not?” Aster asked, raising one eyebrow.
“Kishin-san said that he looked ecchi,” Maru said. “He was worried that the man would abuse the children, even though he carried a name of noble lineage.”
“What name?” Aster asked, her blood running cold.
“Chiba Takara,” Maru said. “Do you know him?”
“Yes,” Aster said. “Kishin’s instincts are good. That man is not to be trusted.”
“So we are looking for eleven more children?” Setsuna asked. “That should not be too hard. Elara, what is your name, now?”
“Kiwa,” the girl replied. “I can help you with some of the others. I know most of them.”
“Do the other children pick on you?” Aster asked.
“Sometimes,” Kiwa said. “Sometimes, they just won’t have anything to do with us.”
“We’ll take you out of here,” Aster said. “Show us where the others are.”
Kiwa led them through the grounds, around different play groups and children having lessons in the open air until they reached a large clump of bushes.
Kiwa disappeared into the bushes for a moment, and almost immediately came out with several children following her.
“This isn’t all of them,” Kiwa said. “I’ll go find the rest.”
Aster nodded in her direction to Setsuna, and watched carefully while the red-eyed Senshi followed the little girl away.
When they were gone, Aster looked over the seven children in front of her. They were all girls, and all within two years of one another. Three of them were Jovian Satellites, and the other four were Neptunian.
“I’m taking all of you with me,” she told them. “As soon as Kiwa comes back with the others, we are leaving.”
They waited, the children fidgeting, until Setsuna and Kiwa came back with five more children.
“Go get what you have,” Aster said. “Meet us by the front gates.” She watched them walk away, and then turned to Setsuna.
“So we have fourteen more Satellites,” she said. She started walking towards the administrator’s office tent, with Setsuna alongside her.
“None of them is Ariel,” Setsuna pointed out unnecessarily.
“I know,” Aster said. “The only reassurance I have is ChibiUsa’s assertion that all of the Satellites are in the future.”
“You have my assertion, as well,” Setsuna said, taking Aster’s arm. “I am sorry about before, Sol. You are there. I … communicated with you.”
“What did I tell you?” Aster asked, turning to look at her newest lover.
“That you missed me,” Setsuna said. “You wanted to know if it was time, yet. You … asked about Masato for some reason.”
“That’s odd,” Aster said. “If all of the Satellites are in living crystals, then Masato is in a crystal. Why would I ask about Masato if I knew he was in hibernation?”
“I don’t know,” Setsuna said. “I suppose we will understand it in time.”
Aster nodded and patted Setsuna’s hand before she separated from the other Senshi and stepped into the administrator’s tent.
Inside, the man was sitting at a desk, examining files. He turned when she entered, and then he smiled at her.
“Have you found some children, Fushida-san?” he asked.
“Yes,” Aster said. “In fact, thirteen of them.”
“Are you certain that you are able for so many, Fushida-san?” he asked.
“Of course,” Aster said. “Now, please produce their paperwork, so that I can take them with me.”
He followed her outside and wrote down the numbers off of the metal tags each child wore around her neck. He disappeared into the tent again, and then came out with a stack of files. He indicated a small table with two chairs and indicated that Aster should sit down.
Half an hour and a sore wrist later, Aster and Setsuna stared at the Rolls and realized that they were not going to get all of the children into the car. Squeezing, they could fit six in the back, and three more in the front, leaving no room for Setsuna.
Aster pulled out her cell phone. Fortunately, cell phone towers had been the first items erected in the destroyed areas, restoring communications to most of the area.
“Vincent,” Aster said. “I’d like you to grab one of the sedans and come over to the Children’s City. I’ve picked up a group of children, but I can’t fit them all. Thanks. Bye.”
She snapped the phone shut and smiled at Setsuna.
“He’s coming,” she said. “He can take seven, and we can keep the six in the back.”
“I could make my own way back,” Setsuna offered.
“No,” Aster said sharply. She stopped, and then smiled in apology.
“I’m sorry, Bara,” she said. “After everything, I’m going to be jumpy and particular for a while.”
“It’s alright, Kochou,” Setsuna said. “Let’s get these children home, and continue our search.”
“We desperately need to find Naru,” Aster said, looking around. “I don’t sense any more planet power here, though.”
“There are three more orphanages in Tokyo,” Setsuna pointed out. “We’ll find her.”

Aster woke to the scent of roses and the feeling of something cool against her cheek. She opened her eyes to see Joben watching her with his hands pillowed under his cheek. Nestled up against her face was a thornless pink rosebud.
She picked up the rosebud and climbed to her feet. She pulled on her kimono and padded across the communal futon and out onto the rooftop deck.
Kunzite was standing near the rail, his hair nearly glowing.
“I worried for you,” he said softly. He held out one hand to her in entreaty.
Aster could never deny him anything, so she approached him and, after looking in his eyes, she took his hand and allowed him to pull her into an embrace.
“I miss you,” she said softly. “I am happy to be home, but I miss you and Zoisite. I even miss Nephrite.”
“I will tell him,” Kunzite said softly. “He will be pleased. Will you be missed, saiai?”
“There is someone awake,” she told him. “He or Charon will tell the others where I am.”
“They do not worry that I will abduct you?” he asked.
“They trust the honor of the Shitennou,” she replied. “They also know that I am actually more powerful than you, especially here. You could not take me to the Dark Kingdom without my consent.”
“Do I have your consent?” he whispered to her, his eyes full of longing.
Aster shivered in a frission of arousal, but she shook her head.
“I can’t go with you, saiai,” she said. “Even if I thought that you wanted me there. My princess and the others need me. Without the sun, I would die. I must stay here.”
“What would you do,” he asked. “If you were not Sailor Sol?”
“But I am,” she said earnestly. “Neither of us can change that. I do not love you less for being Sailor Sol, but my duty to my princess must come first, as does your duty to Metalia.”
“And I do not love you less for saying that,” he said. “Shall we go to the treehouse?”
“All you had to do was ask,” she replied, smiling softly at him.
She turned towards the rail, and then paused for a moment and looked back towards the door.
Kunzite followed her gaze.
“I will not bring her harm, Sailor Pluto,” he said softly. “You have my word. I also would never seek to take her to the Dark Kingdom.”
“See that you do not,” Setsuna said softly. “Between Charon and my partner, I believe I could find my way to the Black Queen’s realm, and we would wreak havoc you have never seen. My element does exist there, as does that of my satellite.”
“I will remember that,” Kunzite said. He watched carefully while Aster used her powers to float down to the ground. He nodded respectfully to Setsuna, and then followed her down.
