Chapter 7: A Family Reunion Not Meant To Happen and Kidnapped

James\' POV

That girl. I swear I\'ve seen her somewhere before. Those auqa colored eyes and long auburn hair and strange outfit. Where did I know her before? I couldn\'t shake her memory from my head. Even after three weeks since the Pokemon Master Finals that she saw us and knew exactly who we were. Even at night in my dreams she still haunts me. I sit up slightly and look at Jesand and Meowth and wonder why I was paired with such a smart mouthed girl that has to have everything her way. Meowth I could handle at times. He actually had a good head on his shoulders given the chance. The thought of Jessie made me suddenly turn over in my sleeping bag and return to my thoughts on the other girl.

How do I know her?

Normal POV
Ash, Brock, Misty and Kari walked down the path heading to the next Pokemon Gym. However, it was more like a fight to the next gym since Ash and Misty couldn\'t stop arguing long enough for anyone to have a moments peace. \"What is the big deal over some contraption called a bicycle?\" Kari asked suddenly. Leave it to her to ask a question like that since a lot of things dealing with humans she still had no idea about. \"It was mine and his Pikachu\'s responsible for baking it to a crisp!\" Misty shouted angrily. \"Well, I was only asking,\" Kari retorted. \"You don\'t have to get such an attitude with me.\" \"Guys, give Kar a break!\" Brock pleaded. \"Half of the things we do she has no idea what\'s going on!\"

Ash knew Brock had a point. Kari was still rather new to the human world despite being on land since she was three. She depended on her new friends to show her things she never imagined. Misty, on the other hand, was hard to convince. \"It\'s not our fault she\'s a mermaid,\" she said crossing her arms on her chest. \"Someone should\'ve trained her better about our world.\" Kari\'s aqua blue eyes looked actually hurt from that comment. She stopped walking and sighed heavily. \"Kari, don\'t take her seriously,\" Ash said putting a hand on her shoulder. \"She doesn\'t know what she\'s talking about, that\'s all.\" \"I think I know exactly what she means,\" she said looking uptwo two tears from her eyes slid down her cheeks. \"Kari...\" he began. \"Can we set up camp by that lake over there?\" she asked interrupting him before he could say another word. \"I need time to myself.\" She glared at the red head and walked to the lake diving in turning in her mermaid form and swam to the bottom.

\"You shouldn\'t have done that, Mist Bro Brock said seriously. \"She\'s had a bad past worse than any of us and you had to rub it in her face.\" \"I didn\'t mean to,\" Misty said. \"I don\'t think she believes you,\" Ash said. \"She doesn\'t know what a bike is and she\'s still learning about the human world. You\'re a Water Pokemon Trainer and I thought at least the two of you would get along since she\'s part fish and knows about Water Pokemon. But it doesn\'t look like that\'ll happen.\" Brock lifted Squirtle in his arms and they began to set up camp by the lake. Later that evening, Kari sat on the shore allowing her tail in the water as she rested her chin in one hand. Misty walked to her some hot cocoa in her hands. \"Here,\" she said. \"It\'ll be a cool night tonight. This should help warm you up.\" Kari looked up at her and took the mug. \"Thank you,\" she said. \"About this afternoon,\" Misty said sitting down next to her. \"I was wrong for what I said. You\'ll see that when I get upset, I\'ll say things I don\'t mean.\" Kari nodded and sipped the warm brew.

Late that night, Team Rocket came across the small camp and smiled. \"A Pikachu!\" Jessie said with delight. \"Let\'s get it and send it to the boss!\" They began to sneak to the camp when Kari stirred and woke up. \"Hey!\" she shouted. \"What do you think you\'re doing?\" \"Taking this Pikachu, you little twerp,\" Jessie said pushing Kari down as she d tod to stop them. Kari growled and grabbed a PokeBall hanging from her neck along with her other necklace. \"Charizard! I choose you!\" she shouted. She jumped on his back and the two flew after them. \"We have to help Pikachu,\" she whe when they saw a huge balloon shaped like a Meowth! Team Rocket laughed hard as they flew off. \"Sorry, but looks like you can\'t get us,\" Meowth chuckled. \"Wanna make a bet?\" Kari growled grabbing another PokeBall. \"Beedrill! Go!\" She released the Insect Pokemon and frowned. \"Beedrill, Drill Attack on that balloon!\" she shouted. The balloon busted and started flying everywhere until it landed below. \"Beedrill, return!\" she shouted and Charizard swooped down to the busted balloon.

\"Pika pika!\" Pikachu shouted running into Kari\'s arms burying his face in her chest shaking uncontrollably. James growled then. \"Koffing! Go!\" he shouted. \"You too, Ekans!\" Jessie shouted. Meowth joined in as well, but Kari made no move to summon a Pokemon. She stared at Koffing in shock. \"No,\" she whispered clutching Pikachu tightly. \"This is impossible!\" Koffing recognized her and flew to her happily. Pikachu looked ready to attack it when she stopped him. \"Don\'t,\" she said and turned to look at James. \"It is you,\" she said seriously. \"James, my foster father.\" Meowth\'s jaw dropped suddenly. \"You got the wrong guy, kid,\" James said frowning. She shook her head. \"It\'s me, James,\" she said. \"Kari. The mermaid you saved from the beach eleven years ago.\"

He stared at her in shock. \"Kari,\" he whispered and smiled brightly. \"You\'ve come back to me!\" She frowned shaking her head as she backed away from him. \"No,\" she said seriously. \"We were never meant to see each other again. You\'ve chosen your side in life and so have I. I\'m a Pokemon Master now and I chose the side of good. I\'m adopted now in a good family. One that never kept me prisoner, that celebrates every birthday with presents and parties, tells me they love me every night before bed and comforts me when I\'m upset. I never got that from you. To you, I was better off dead like my people. I\'m fourteen years old now. I\'ve fulfilled every dream I wanted here on land and you...\" She snorted angrily. \"You\'ve become a thief, a con man, a criminal. That\'s not what I want or need.\" She looked at Pikachu and handed him to Charizard before grabbing another PokeBall. \"Perhaps you\'ll forgive me for this one day,\" she said seriously. \"But for now, it\'s to happen. Electabuzz! I choose you!\" The Electric Pokemon appeared in front of her. \"Electabuzz, Thunder Punch now!\" she shouted. The blast sent Team Rocket and their Pokemon blasting off. She grabbed the PokeBall and called the Pokemon back.

Two days later, the friends arrived in a town and began to look around. Kari, as usual, was rather nervous, but curious as well. She glanced around the strange town and dragged Brock into stores and other places checking them out. This was part of her fasination with the human world and he knew he had to slow it down a bit. \"Let\'s just go for a walk instead of going to every store,\" he suggested. She nodded and they began walking. Squirtle sat on Brock\'s shoulders as usual since he became rather close to him since he was his master\'s boyfriend of sorts. Just then, choking smoke suddenly filled the area causing a lot of people to seek cover to get some fresh air. Kari coughed hard and leaned against Brock as they ran when something pierced the back of her neck and caused her to fall to the ground. \"Kari!\" he shouted running to her, but even the smoke was becoming too much to take. James, Jessie, and Meowth emerged as Koffing spread its Poison Gas Attack around. James grabbed Kari\'s limp body and removed the dart from the back of her neck. \"That Pikachu\'s as good as ours,\" he said seriously as they ran off.

When Kari woke up, she was tied to a chair and gagged in an old cabin outside of town. The only light was streaming from a dusty window and it was so muggy and dusty that sight was nearly impossible. She struggled in her bonds and found out she couldn\'t break free no matter what she did. She could tell she was alone inside, but could hear Team Rocket talking outside. Her fingers touched a PokeBall somehow and she pressed the button to reveal a Nidorina. She looked at the trembling mermaid and began to bite through the ropes holding her. Soon her hands and legs were free and she removed the gag. \"Thank you, Nidorina,\" she said cal called her back in the PokeBall. She then grabbed Charizard\'s PokeBall and held it close as she heard the front door unlock. \"Who said you could escape?\" James demanded as he slammed her back in the chair and was about to tie her up when her foot hit the button and released Charizard!

James gulped in fear then when Charizard punched him out the door and Meowth and Jessie ran to see what happened. Kari stood up once again and smiled. \"Charizard, Flame Thrower Attack now!\" she shouted. The force of the attack sent Team Rocket \"blasting off again\", but also caught the cabin on fire. Kari turned around and saw an old kerosene heater with some gas still inside and the fire was heading for it. \"Charizard, let\'s go!\" she shouted and they ran out as the place exploded. They fell to the ground when Kari let out a scream of pain. Charizard turned around to see a stake right through her leg from the explosion. She grunted as she stood up and removed the stake causing blood to pour from the wound. She looked at him swallowing hard. \"Take me to the Pokemon Center and then find the others,\" she whispered weakly. He nodded and lifted her in his arms before flying off.

Nurse Joy was finishing her rounds when Charizard burst in carrying Kari in his arms. She dropped to the ground and looked at her. \"Please, help me,\" she whispered before she fell unconsious on the floor. \"Chansey, bring a gurney!\" Nurse Joy shouted as she lifted Kari\'s limp body in her arms. \"She needs a blood transfusion and fast. She might not live through the night!\"
