Chapter 7 - Amends
Shun returned to the Virgo Temple totally
flustered and confused about the strange activities occurring in Sanctuary. He
rarely got mad, but this was one of those times where he was near his breaking
point. He stood at the Temple door, trying to calm himself before he confronted
Shaka about the behavior of some of the Gold Saints.
Shaka was expecting some sort of reaction out
of Shun, after all he had put the boy through a series of weird events over the
last week. However, he was surprised to sense the younger Saint’s anger with
him. He opened the door to find Shun standing on the other side, totally
disheveled.
“Hello Shun.” Shaka acted normal, not wanting
to show his knowledge of Shun’s emotional state. Shun stared at him hard,
trying desperately not to go off on him. “Is something the matter?” Shaka
asked when his greeting was not acknowledged.
“Is something the matter?!” Shun blurted out,
his tone loud and very unlike him. “I’ll tell you what’s the matter!” He
stomped past Shaka and entered the Temple, not wanting all of Sanctuary to hear
what he was about to say. Shaka followed, totally prepared as he had gotten
updates from all the Saints as each day passed.
“Please, sit and let’s talk.” Shaka opened his
eyes for this, he wanted Shun to know he had his full attention and that his
feelings were important to him. Shun looked to the chairs Shaka pointed to but
shook his head. “No, I’ll stand.” Shaka remained standing as well.
“I want to know…no…I demand to know what in the
hell is going on here!” Shun’s voice cracked as it strained under his
frustration. “I’m not sure what you are referring to.” Shaka kept his neutral
position, waiting for his moment.
“Let’s see. First, I have Milo dropping his
pants in front of me and giving me a back massage. Second, Aphrodite chases me
down wanting to feed me chocolate covered strawberries. Third, Camus shows me a
blocking technique which requires him to LAY ON ME. But then he doesn’t show me
anything and just starts talking like it’s no big deal that he’s on top of me.
Fourth, Aiolia wants to have a sleepover, in the same BED. Fifth, Deathmask
shows me his collection of sex toys and asks if I want to borrow any. And
today, Mu, the all compassionate and normal Mu wants me to pose for a NUDE
picture he’s drawing! And to top it all off, every night this week you have
asked me to take a bath with you. What the hell is going on?”
Shaka chuckled at Shun’s dramatic reenactment
of all the strange activities. His favorite was when Shun pretended to be
Aphrodite chasing after him. Shun had an artistic flare and Shaka determined
the boy may have missed his calling in theatre. “Why are you laughing?” Shun
wailed in disbelief. “Are you all really that crazy?” Shun could only come to
two conclusions, either they were all horny, perverted nutcakes or they were up
to something.
“Shun, let me ask you this. Remember when you
first got here, you were very depressed. How do you feel now?” Shaka felt he
had finally achieved his goal, albeit in an unusual way. “Well…I feel confused
and…I don’t know.” Shun did not like how Shaka side stepped his questions.
“But are you depressed now?”
Shun thought for a moment and realized that he
was not depressed. In fact, the whole week had been so bizarre that he could
think of little else. “No, I’m not depressed anymore.”
“Then it seems my plan worked.” Shaka smiled.
“Are you over your problems…are you over your broken heart?” Shaka inquired,
testing Shun’s true feelings. Shun looked at his feet, thinking of the
situation with Shiryu and Hyoga. Am I over it?
“Shun, you can stay here…with me.”
Shaka spoke. Shun looked up at the beautiful blond man. “What do you mean?”
Shun asked hesitantly. He had felt the connection between them as their time
together progressed, but worried that the attraction would not be returned.
After all, he was greatly disappointed and wrong about Shiryu and Hyoga.
“You know what I mean.” Shaka stepped close to
Shun, tilting the boy’s chin up. Shun felt his stomach drop and he swallowed
hard. Is he saying what I think he’s saying? “You must be specific with
me, I’m afraid I don’t have much faith in my ability to read between the lines
right now.” Shun informed him, nervously waiting for whatever was next.
Shaka grinned and slowly leaned forward. “You
can stay here with me…” He trailed off as he kissed the Andromeda Saint,
pecking him lightly, but letting his lips linger. Shun gulped again, his eyes
wide and round. “Oh.” He felt silly that all he could utter was the word,
‘oh’.
Shun had a hard time responding to all the
attention he had been receiving. It was especially difficult when it came from
Shaka because he had developed a crush on the Gold Saint. But he wanted this,
he wanted to believe that Shaka may actually want him too. Before he could
answer, Shaka dropped his hand from Shun’s chin and stepped back. “We have a
visitor.”
***
Shiryu watched Hyoga and Seiya make sandwiches
together in the kitchen. Ikki had left for Sanctuary and Shiryu found it was
pretty lonely since Hyoga and Seiya were basically joined at the hip. Plus, he
still had not made his peace with Hyoga and the blond avoided him. Seiya was
friendly of course, but spent most of his time with Hyoga. It bothered Shiryu
that he had done so much damage to Hyoga and Shun without thinking of the
consequences.
“Hey Shiryu! Want a sandwich? Turkey and
cheese!” Seiya saw Shiryu lurking in the doorway and invited him to join them.
Hyoga stiffened a little, but showed no other reaction. Seiya had been trying
to convince him to make amends with Shiryu. It was frustrating for Seiya since
his best friend and new boyfriend were not talking to each other.
Shiryu did not move until Hyoga turned around,
a forced smile on his face. “Yeah, come have lunch with us.” Seiya beamed at
Hyoga’s effort, he knew it was hard for him. “Okay.” Shiryu took the
opportunity, hoping to talk to Hyoga later and apologize.
Seiya made another sandwich and they all
retired to the back patio outside surrounding the pool. They sat at a fancy
table that seemed out of place outdoors, but like everything in the mansion, it
was to be expected. Seiya began a conversation, asking Shiryu how he felt about
Ikki being gone. They chatted with each other, Hyoga remaining quiet as he ate.
“So Hyoga bought this new album. It’s really
good, the Jasper Peanuts or something.” Seiya tried to open a line of
communication for Shiryu and Hyoga to jump onto. “It’s the Jasper Cashews.”
Hyoga corrected him with a small smile. “What kind of music is it?” Shiryu
asked.
“Rock.” Hyoga answered, Seiya disappointed
with his one word response. Shiryu let the topic drop. Seiya started in again,
this time chatting about the new video game they were playing. When they were
all finished, Seiya collected their empty plates. “I’ll take these inside.” He
left them at the table alone, maybe they’ll talk if I’m not there.
“So.” Hyoga said, looking around the expansive
backyard. “Yeah, so.” Shiryu was also looking around as they avoided eye
contact. “Look Hyoga, I wanted to apologize to you…about the whole Shun
thing.” Shiryu decided to break the ice. “Oh.” Hyoga figured that they were
going to talk about it, but had not planned on what to say or how to act.
“Yeah. I knew you and Shun were interested in
each other and I overstepped the line by approaching him like I did.” It was
hard for Shiryu to admit his mistake, but he tried to be as honest and
responsible as possible. “I see.” Hyoga finally met Shiryu’s eyes and saw the
guilt and pain behind them.
“I would like to be friends again one day, if
you can forgive me.” Shiryu bowed his head, terrified Hyoga would reject his
sincere plea. “I’d like that too.” Hyoga said with tenderness in his voice.
Shiryu looked up. “Really?” He asked just to make sure he was not imagining
it.
“Yeah, really. But Shiryu…I think we both need
to apologize to Shun.” It was Hyoga’s turn to expose his guilt. “I know. He
didn’t deserve any of this. I feel awful about how I hurt both of you.” Shiryu
had to fight back tears by blinking quickly. “Well let’s work on our
friendship…then maybe we’ll come up with a good way to fix things with Shun
together.” Hyoga smiled, letting Shiryu know that they were on their way to
patching things up.
Shiryu stood up to leave but Hyoga stopped
him. The Cygnus Saint pulled him in for a hug, a strong, emotional hug. Shiryu
was relieved and happy, Hyoga would eventually forgive him, and if he could,
then maybe Shun could too.
***
“Shun!” Ikki strode into the Virgo Temple
after getting permission from Shaka. “Ikki?” Shun saw his older brother
approaching him and immediately broke into a smile. They embraced in a warm
hug, Ikki squeezing his little brother tight. “I’m so glad to see you Ikki!”
Shun was pleasantly surprised by the visit.
“I came to make sure you were enjoying yourself
here in Sanctuary.” Ikki looked around the Virgo Temple, his eyes resting on
Shaka. Ikki noticed an odd energy in the air and looked back at Shun trying to
place its origin. The Andromeda Saint started talking while Ikki focused on the
vibration. “…we can have dinner tonight. Right Shaka?” Ikki missed what Shun
said.
“Of course, I’ll prepare something for our
guest.” Shaka left the brothers alone and went to make dinner. “Shun, what is
that energy I’m picking up on?” Ikki asked, unable to take his mind away from
it. “Huh? I don’t know. I don’t feel anything.” Shun looked around.
“Hmm. Oh well. Must be nothing.” Ikki let it
drop, deciding to figure it out later. For now, he needed to catch up with his
brother, who thankfully, seemed in good spirits and not in the same depressive
mood as when he left Japan.
“Why are you here?” Shun asked, still in awe
that his brother was standing in front of him. He had no contact with anyone in
Japan since he left almost a month ago. “I came to see you. I wanted to see
how you’ve been doing.” Ikki sat down in a chair, Shun following and sitting
across from him.
“I’m fine I guess.” Shun was not exactly sure
how to answer since he was just starting to understand all the strange events
that had been happening to him. “You guess?” Ikki laughed causing Shun to
giggle, “Yeah, I’m doing better.” Shun looked toward the hallway that led to
the kitchen and suddenly that nagging energy made sense to Ikki. It was the
tension between Shaka and Shun. Not the angry kind of tension, but the sexual
kind.
Ikki
sat there a little dumbfounded while his little brother blushed then returned
his line of vision to their conversation. “Are
you and Shaka…?” Ikki used hand gestures to finish his sentence. Shun’s eyes
opened big, “Oh no! No, no.” Shun let out an exasperated laugh, pretending to
be amused by Ikki’s observation. The blush crept farther across his cheeks.
“You are!” Ikki could not believe Shun’s
inability to lie effectively. “No…I mean, maybe. I don’t know yet okay.” Shun
groaned. “What do you mean you don’t know? Either you are, or you’re not.”
Ikki was referring to the sexual aspect while Shun assumed they were talking
about feelings and relationship status. “He only just kissed me right before
you came in, so I don’t know.”
“Oh, you are still in the ‘getting to know you’
stage.” Ikki understood now, it had not progressed to a sexual level yet. “I’m
glad you have an interest in him though, must be nice after all the chaos back
home.” Ikki needed to bring up his relationship with Shiryu, Shun deserved to
know.
“Yes, I haven’t really thought about it, I’ve
been really busy this week with other things.” Shun decided to keep his
oddities to himself for now, he would tell Ikki another time about the humorous
Gold Saints and their chocolate covered strawberries and exotic training
tactics.
“Shun, I need to tell you some things.” Ikki
started, pausing to see if Shun was open to the discussion. Shun smiled so Ikki
continued. “First of all, I want you to know that I had no idea about you and
Shiryu when I made a move on him. When I found out what happened, I felt
awful. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Ikki used the direct approach, it was his
strongest form of communication.
“I know that now. I didn’t blame you for it.”
Shun’s response was sincere. “I appreciate your trust in me. But…since you’ve
been gone…things have happened.” Ikki rubbed his forehead, nervous to finish.
“I’m with Shiryu.” Ikki blurted it out watching Shun for a reaction, but he did
not flinch.
“The relationship we have is pretty serious. I
think I love him.” Ikki offered more detail since Shun sat quietly. He wanted
him to accept their relationship because both Shiryu and his brother were
important to him. Shun shifted in his seat, Ikki still could not read his
feelings though.
Shun opened his mouth to speak, but then closed
it. He furrowed his eyebrows, thinking for a moment. “I’m happy for you.” He
finally said. It still was not clear if Shun meant it or not,
but Ikki felt that he was actually okay about it. “Ikki?”
“Yes Shun?” The older brother waited
patiently. “How’s Hyoga doing?” Ikki relaxed, realizing Shun was fine with him
and Shiryu and that it was Hyoga he was anxious about. “He’s doing okay. He
has just recently started being more sociable. He kept to himself for awhile.”
He did not want to tell Shun about Hyoga and Seiya yet, he knew Shun had a lot
more feelings for Hyoga than he did for Shiryu.
“So everyone is doing okay?” Shun still seemed
distracted but Ikki did not know it was because of Shaka, not their
conversation. Shun could still feel the other man’s lips on him. “Yeah, are
you alright?” Ikki leaned forward, touching his brother’s knee. Shun jolted
back into reality and smiled brightly.
“I’m fine, sorry! I was just lost in thought
there. But as I said, I’m happy for you and Shiryu, really.” Ikki chuckled at
Shun’s sudden shift back into their conversation. “I’m glad you’re okay with
it.”
“You said you think you love him….that’s a big
thing. Fill me in on the relationship!” Shun focused his attention onto his
brother.
They chatted for some time as Ikki explained how he and Shiryu came to be a
couple. Shun stared at him blankly when Ikki accidentally mentioned how
sexually active they were, something his younger brother did not want to know
about his sibling.
“Dinner is ready.” Shaka appeared in the
room. “Oh good! I’m starving.” Shun bounced up and they all adjourned to
eat. Shaka was an excellent cook and Shun looked forward to every meal he
made.
Sitting at the table together, they made light
conversation. “Where will you be staying tonight Phoenix?” Shaka inquired as
he took a bite of his food. “I don’t know yet. Actually, I was hoping I could
stay here.” Ikki answered, smiling at Shun.
“I think you can stay with Milo or Mu
tonight.” Shaka’s response was very unusual and Ikki could not help but
question him. “Why can’t I stay here?” His tone was a little firm, but still
respectful. “Shun still has training to do tonight and you being here will be a
distraction. I will allow you to spend the day together tomorrow, but then Shun
must return to his lessons.”
Shun blushed hard, he knew what ‘training’
meant, another bath together. Ikki seemed reluctant but accepted the answer for
the time being. He was smarter than to question a teacher’s lesson plan,
especially Shaka. “I’ll stay with Mu if he’ll let me.” The Phoenix Saint knew
Mu better and figured it would be okay with the Aires Saint if he crashed in his
temple for the night.
Dinner went by quickly and before the brothers
could do anything, Shaka shuffled Ikki out the Temple entrance. “Mu is
expecting you, good night.” Shaka shut the door on the bewildered Saint. “Good
night…that was weird.” Ikki mumbled to himself then headed off to the Aires
Temple.
As he passed through the many temples to get
there an idea settled in his mind. Oh! I know why Shaka was in a hurry to
get me out of there! He chuckled as he imagined how his little brother was
probably being cornered and devoured by the spiritual Saint at this very
moment. Shaka wanted time alone with his new playmate.
***
Shaka turned and looked at Shun after he closed
the door behind Ikki. “Bath time.” That was all he said, his slender form
heading in the direction of the bathroom. Shun felt the butterflies attack his
stomach knowing this was going to be different than all their other baths
together. He doubted there would be any actual meditation training tonight, but
he could be trained in other ways.
