Chapter 7 – Marry Me
The Proposal – Hyoga 22, Shun 21 (October)
Shun
whined pitifully, tossing in bed with a fever and cold. Hyoga returned
from the bathroom with a cold washcloth to put on his forehead, sitting on the
bed next to him. Shun had been sick consistently for the last two months,
ever since their latest battle. A rogue group of South American Saints had
sprouted up and come after Athena, wanting her powers destroyed. Of
course, the Bronze Saints won the battle, but Shun was bitten by some strange
beetle-spider hybrid insect that enemy had unleashed on
him. Ever since then he had been fighting off one cold after another and spent
most of his time in bed or on the sofa watching television.
“Your fever is down a little.” Hyoga pressed
the compress against Shun, saddened that his lover was so ill. “Hmmm…I’m
feeling better. Maybe I can get up today?” Shun sounded awful as he spoke and
immediately broke into a coughing fit. “We can go watch a movie on the couch if
you like, but you still need to rest. The doctor is coming back this afternoon
to run more blood tests on you.” Hyoga sighed. They had specialists in and out
for two months and no one was able to figure out what was wrong with Shun other
than he was fighting off some unknown infection.
“I’ll get better. Don’t worry.” Shun smiled
then coughed again and rolled over to his side to curl up with a pillow. Hyoga
laid down next to him for awhile, gently playing with Shun’s hair. When he
heard heavy breathing, he knew his lover had fallen asleep and quietly stole out
of the room to find the others.
“Is he doing any better?” Ikki asked, very
worried about his little brother. “No, he seems to be about the same. He’s
still feverish and has that bad cough.” Hyoga looked tired as he informed Ikki
about Shun’s current condition. “You should get some sleep. You need to take
care of yourself.” Ikki felt bad that Hyoga had ended up with all the
responsibility of taking care of Shun. They had all offered, but Shun always
asked for Hyoga in the end anyway.
“Ikki…I’ve been thinking about asking Shun to
marry me. Since you are all the family he has, I’d like to ask for your
blessing.” Ikki looked momentarily stunned then produced a giant smile.
“Really? That would be great! You have my blessing. I have to say, you really
are the best thing that ever happened to him.”
“Thanks Ikki. Any ideas on how to propose?
I’m pretty clueless.” Hyoga laughed at his own inability to come up with
something special. He always had problems in this area of the relationship and
felt that Shun was more thoughtful and creative. “Do you have a ring?” Ikki
asked as Saori walked into the room. “No. I haven’t had time to look for one
since I’ve been watching after Shun.”
“A ring? What’s it for? Oh my god…are you
going to propose?!” Saori bounced gleefully at the mention of a ring. “Yeah,
I’m planning it.” Hyoga watched her eyes light up, this was right up her
alley. “We’ll go with you to pick out the perfect ring!” Saori went to grab
her purse, intending to pay for it. “I can’t leave Shun alone.” Hyoga was
tired and in desperate need of a nap.
“Oh, all right. I’ll ask Seiya to come over
and watch him tomorrow while we go, how’s that?” Saori was already planning
ahead, wedding bells ringing in her head. “That sounds good, but I don’t want
Shun to know about it, it’s a surprise.” Hyoga found himself smiling, eager to
get a ring now.
“Secret is safe with us, and Seiya. Then we’ll
have to tell Shiryu and Shunrei of course. Did I tell you, she had her doctor’s
appointment last week and she’s coming along nicely?” Saori was happy that one
of her Saints was going to be a father soon. “That’s great. I wish they would
come by more, we haven’t seen much of them since they got married two years
ago.” Ikki responded to the elated Saori.
“They prefer living at Five Ancient
Peaks, but it is a shame they are not around more often. When are they due
again?” Hyoga asked, they were all excited to see the baby when it arrived. “I
think she’s due in five months, so they still have some time. She just started
showing a little bit.” Saori was all on top of the information as she made sure
to keep up with all her Saints every week, even the Gold ones.
“Well I’m going to take a nap before I fall
over, let me know when the doctor gets here.” Hyoga went back to the room he
shared with Shun and crawled into bed with him again. Shun rustled a bit and
coughed, but remained asleep as Hyoga spooned up behind him and draped an arm
over his chest. Whatever it was Shun had, it was not contagious, that was the
consensus from all the doctors. Hyoga drifted to sleep thinking of different
ways to propose.
***
The next day, Hyoga, Ikki and Saori set out to
find the perfect ring while Seiya stayed behind to take care of Shun. The
doctor had promising news and felt he could treat Shun’s condition because it
resembled a rare spider bite. He had started administering the medicine
immediately and they were all happy when Shun woke up without a fever.
“We should start with the basics. Is it going
to be gold, silver, white gold, platinum? Do you want stones in it, or just a
band?” Saori had her little notepad out, ready to take notes. “Well, I haven’t
thought about all that. All I know is that I want it to be special.” Hyoga
grinned getting an exasperated sigh from Saori. “What kind of ‘special’ did you
have in mind?”
“Well, Shun gave me this necklace a few years
back and I like the idea.” Hyoga pulled the circle pendant out, the one with
the three triangles. “I like that! What does it mean?” Saori pulled the
necklace off of Hyoga to get a better look at it. “Each piece represents a part
of Shun…his mind, his body and his soul.” Ikki laughed and they both looked at
him. “What about his heart?”
“I guess he kept that for himself.” Hyoga
laughed too as they all rode in the limousine into downtown Tokyo. “I have an
idea.” Saori brightened, still fingering the pendant. “What?” Hyoga was happy
they were with him because otherwise he would be wandering through jewelry
stores all day in a haze of confusion. “You should do something similar on the
ring, but include you too. Entwine them or something.” Hyoga and Ikki were
impressed with Saori’s idea.
“Where am I going to find that?” Hyoga asked.
“You’re not. We’ll have to have it made especially for Shun.” Saori jotted
down a few things while Hyoga stared blankly at her. “I can’t afford to make
him a ring!” Hyoga gasped at the mounting costs in his head. “Don’t be silly,
I’ll pay for it.” Saori went back to her notes. “But…I wanted to pay for it.”
Hyoga spoke softly.
“Oh. I’m sorry, I guess I wasn’t thinking. Of
course, you can pay for it. I can help if you like, I’m always willing to
help.” Saori had not realized Hyoga was interested in buying it himself. She
gave them all allowances but knew he could not afford to have a ring made with
what she gave him. “How much do you have to spend?” Ikki asked so they would
be looking in the right price range.
Hyoga mumbled a number and both their jaws
dropped. “Hyoga! You could make three rings with that much money! You have
plenty. Were you planning on spending all of that on one ring?” Saori was
dumbfounded, apparently he had been saving, for years. “Yeah, it’s for the
wedding and the ring.” Ikki laughed again, “You know Saori is not going to let
you pay for the wedding, so give that up right now.”
“That’s right, I told you all that I would pay
for your weddings. Gracious though, that’s a lot of money for one ring. You
should have two made, one for you and one for him.” Saori chirped, happy he
could afford a ring, or ten. “I was just going to get myself a simple band, but
matching rings would be nice.”
“Then we’ll go to a place that does excellent
work and commission them. Now back to my original question….gold, silver, white
gold, platinum?” Hyoga and Ikki sighed, it seemed too complicated for their
simple ideas. “Platinum.” Hyoga made his choice quickly knowing Saori would
continue to ask until he made up his mind. “Oh, good choice. Do you know
Shun’s ring size?” Another groan from Hyoga. “No.”
“No worries, I’ll get it while he’s sleeping
later. I have a ring-sizer at home.” Saori smiled, completely excited now to
plan this and their wedding. “So, what now?” Hyoga asked as they pulled up at
a fancy building. “Now, we go order your rings.” They all hopped out of the
car and went inside.
***
Shun was doing much better, his fever
dissipated and he was full of energy when he awoke the next morning, snuggled up
next to his lover. Hyoga was still asleep, resting on his back, a favorite
sleeping position of his. Feeling slightly frisky, Shun slid his hands under
the blanket in search of Hyoga’s sleeping manhood. It had been weeks since they
were able to mess around because of Shun’s illness.
Hyoga rustled in his sleep as Shun began to slowly stroke him, his cock waking
up immediately in Shun’s hand. Fighting back a giggle, Shun lifted the
covers and maneuvered himself lower. Once in place, he wet his lips then
encompassed the rigid member with his mouth. After two long sucks, Hyoga’s
eyes opened, still glossy from sleep.
“Shun….” Hyoga murmured, already feeling the
effects of his lover’s warm mouth on him. Shun smiled when Hyoga woke up,
increasing his speed and effort. “Ahh…uhhh.” Low moaning erupted from the blond
in his relaxed state. In the years they had been together, Shun had never woken
him up like this.
Shun nudged Hyoga’s legs apart and settled
between them. His hands gently fondled the sensitive skin around the area,
cupping and rolling the balls with a squeeze. Shortly after, Shun inserted a
finger into Hyoga, pushing it forward in search of his prostate. Hyoga reacted
to the incredible feeling by clamping his hands down on Shun’s head and
whimpering as he neared completion.
Uninhibited by his
sleepy state,
Hyoga purred and cried out when he came. Shun kept his mouth on his boyfriend,
wanting to take everything Hyoga had to offer. “Shun….” Hyoga sighed heavily
as his body began to relax. “Good morning.” Shun crawled up Hyoga’s body,
laying across his chest and planting a kiss on his jaw. “Mornin’ love.”
“Did you like that?” Shun’s eyes twinkled with
a devious shine and Hyoga had to laugh. “Yes, that was…unexpected to say the
least. Are you feeling better?” Hyoga placed the back of his hand against
Shun’s forehead, relieved to find the fever was still gone. This was the second
day in a row he had woken up fever free. “Yes, I feel fine. I’m totally
rested, so let’s go do something.” Shun eagerly pounced off the bed heading for
their bathroom.
“Come back, don’t you want me to take care of
you?” Hyoga smirked as he heard the shower turn on. “I’m fine, later love.”
Shun yelled over the water. “Later then…” Hyoga murmured to himself,
fascinated with Shun’s quick recovery, he seemed back to normal. Whatever the
doctor had given him had worked.
Later that evening they shared a big dinner
with everyone in the Kido mansion as they celebrated Shun’s recovery. Hyoga was
still somewhat concerned, something nagged at him, but he could not place the
bothersome thought. “…and then I had another crazy dream about parachuting into
a volcano, but when I landed, it was marshmallow fluff and I ate as much as I
could until I felt sick!” Shun was telling them all about his hallucinogenic
dreams.
“Shun, we should get you back to bed so you can
rest.” Hyoga interrupted after Shun launched into another dream. “Already?”
Shun pouted, obviously enjoying his interaction with everyone else. “Yeah, it’s
time. You’ve been running around all day and you may think you are fully
recovered, but your body isn’t used to it.” Hyoga hated being the nag, but he
knew Shun needed to take it easy.
“Okay. Let me finish this one and then we can
go upstairs.” Shun returned to his storytelling and Hyoga smiled to himself as
Shun dragged out his dream in an attempt to stall for time. When they finally
made it back to their room, Shun was getting droopy and plopped down on the
bed.
“You ready for me?” Hyoga rubbed Shun’s leg as
he sat down next to his lover. “I’m tired. Can we do it tomorrow?” Shun
yawned and Hyoga chuckled. “Whatever you want, but I was hoping to repay the
favor from this morning.” Hyoga sprawled out over Shun’s resting body and
licked at the tender neck.
“That tickles!” Shun laughed and playfully
pushed at Hyoga to stop tickling him. “Alright, well get some sleep.” Hyoga
smacked Shun on the thigh then went about getting ready for bed. By the time he
returned, only five minutes later, Shun was out cold, breathing deeply. Hyoga
removed Shun’s clothes and wrangled him under the covers, sliding in next to
him. “I love you.” Hyoga whispered as he kissed Shun on the forehead.
***
Three weeks later, Shun was up and totally back
to full health. It almost seemed like he had not been sick at all. All the
doctors were impressed with his full recovery and deemed him cured of an unknown
ailment. Hyoga was nervously planning his proposal since he had picked up the
rings a few days back. He knew Shun loved him, but getting married was a big
deal, especially when they were both men and they had never really talked about
the subject.
Saori had given him 101 different ideas on how
to propose, all of which confused Hyoga even more. He could do it big, he could
do it small, he could make it traditional, he could make it unique, he could
sing it, he could write it in a poem, he could even hire someone to do it for
him, but none of those ideas appealed to him. Except, he did want to make it
small and personal, something that would be special to them both. Hyoga
carried Shun’s ring in his pocket at all times in case they stumbled across the
perfect moment.
One cool afternoon, they were taking a long walk around the mansion grounds,
enjoying the coloring trees. Shun playfully kicked at a pile of burnt
orange, red and yellow leaves then twirled one in between his fingers.
“Don’t you just love the fall Hyoga?” Shun inhaled deeply to smell the
fragrance of the turning season, his favorite of all.
“Yeah. It is beautiful, all the colors and the
promise of snow and cold on the way.” Hyoga smiled and Shun burst out
laughing. “Figures you’d be waiting for everything to ice over! How did you
manage living in Siberia for so long? I get cold on a summer evening.” Shun
pulled his light jacket tighter around him, emphasizing his inherent sensitivity
to cold.
“I just got used to it I guess. And now, I
love it.” Hyoga put his hands on Shun’s hips and pulled him close, warming him
up. A gentle breeze rustled the trees above them, picking up a few leaves and
scattering them around their feet. Hyoga took a moment to stare into the depths
of Shun’s brilliant orbs, happy his boyfriend was standing there with him and
not still sick in bed.
That is when the idea ignited, it was the
perfect moment, unplanned and spontaneous. Hyoga kissed Shun with a lingering
intensity while he subtly removed one hand from his lover’s hip and dug into his
pocket for the band. Shun blushed when Hyoga finally pulled away from the
kiss. “Why are you blushing love?” Hyoga grinned.
“I was cold, you warmed me up. I’m a little
hot and bothered now.” Shun pushed his hips against Hyoga, rubbing against him
slowly to show his new state of being. “Oh…my.” Hyoga kissed Shun again as he
fidgeted with the ring in his hand. He was much more nervous that he had
anticipated and still unsure of how to ask. As their lips parted, Hyoga
instinctively pulled away and dropped to his knees.
“What are you doing?” Shun smirked, wondering
why Hyoga was on both knees. “Come here.” Hyoga tugged on Shun’s hands,
indicating he wanted him on his knees too. Shun moved down, one eyebrow up in
an amused, questioning look. Hyoga took Shun’s hands in his own and held them
tight.
“Shun.” Hyoga started, his breath pulling
tight in his chest. Shun just waited quietly, sensing Hyoga was going to tell
him something important, but was clueless to the magnitude of the situation.
“Shun, you know how much I love you. I do, I love you more than anything.”
Hyoga blurted out his feelings, his hands shook slightly, which Shun noticed as
they held his.
“I love you too Hyoga.” Shun comforted his
lover and responded in kind. “I know you do. We’ve never talked about it, so I
hope you’ll say yes. I hope you love me enough for this.” He took in a deep
breath before spitting out the rest, “Shun, will you marry me?”
Shun’s eyes opened very wide and his mouth
formed an ‘O’. That was absolutely the last thing he expected because he had no
idea men could marry each other. Before answering, which was taking awhile
because he was stunned, they both heard something to their left and looked
over. There stood three of the South American Saints that they thought they had
defeated in battle a few months back.
“Oh shit.” Hyoga mumbled as he stood, putting
himself in front of Shun. Neither of them had their armor, leaving them
unprotected. “What do you want?” Hyoga shouted, holding his arm out, keeping
Shun behind him. “We’ve come for Andromeda.” The middle Saint stepped forward,
the biggest and scariest of the three. He was known as Horolorgium Hector, the
constellation of the Pendulum Clock in the skies of the Southern Hemisphere, and
he had been the hardest to bring down. Both Shiryu and Seiya spent most of
their energy battling him alone. Hyoga knew he could take the other two, but it
was this one he was concerned about.
“What do you want with me?” Shun asked, trying
to step around Hyoga. “Shun, stay back.” Hyoga was overly worried since these
were the Saints that caused Shun’s weird disease. “You were bitten by the
Cornacuptua. You were supposed to transform from the venom.” The one to the
left spoke, Tucana Tito. He was slender with chocolate brown hair that hung
halfway down his back. His helmet was especially intriguing since it was shaped
like a crown with swooping wings up the side. They all wore armor of a copper
color, but it was some other metal that they were not familiar with.
The one to the right stayed back, trying to
look menacing. He resembled Aphrodite, except had long, wavy, maroon hair. He
appeared more feminine than anything else, especially since he was Pavo Emilio,
the Peacock Saint with brilliant colored feathers protruding from behind his
head . “What was I supposed to transform into?” Shun was alarmed by what they
told him. “One of us. If we can transform a Gold, Silver and Bronze Saint,
then we will have our Trinity of Blood.” Shun felt weak.
“Trinity of Blood? Doesn’t sound fun.” Hyoga
had no idea what they were talking about, but they looked like they meant
business. “Diamond Dust!” He pulled into his Cygnus position, mapping the
constellation and let loose his attack, aiming directly at Horolorgium Hector.
The other two jumped in front of him, throwing up their copper shields, catching
the brunt of Hyoga’s ice attack. Their shields froze and they tossed them
aside, preparing their offensive move.
Hyoga grabbed Shun around the waist and started
bounding away, he knew they could not fight and hope to win without their
armor. “I can run!” Shun wiggled free and sped off. As they approached the
mansion, Seiya and Shiryu came bolting out, dressed in their cloth. “Those
Saints are here!” Hyoga called out, running into the house to get his armor.
Shun disappeared for the moment and loud shockwaves could be felt as the small
battle began on the front lawn.
Donning his cloth, Hyoga launched out of an
upstairs window, driving a hard blow to Emilio on his way down. Seiya had taken
on Hector by himself and was taking major hits while Shiryu was pummeling Tito
with his Dragon Punch. Emilio fell easily to Hyoga, but then pulled long metal
rods from his boots, whipping them at the blond. They caught Hyoga’s ankles,
knocking him to the ground, painfully cracking his shoulder.
“Stop!” A low booming voice was heard from
above and they all stopped to look up and see Shun standing on a second floor
balcony, perched on the railing. He was in his cloth, his chains twirling
wildly over his head, his eyes cold as steel. “How dare you show up here, at
the home of Athena!” Shun’s low voice carried, chilling them, while his chains
took Tito and Emilio by their arms, hurling them off into the trees.
Hector stared stupidly at the crazed Andromeda
Saint then grabbed Hyoga up from the ground, holding him by the back of his
neck. He had heard Cygnus proposing and found it rather odd, but decided to
break up their happy moment anyway. Shun flipped off the balcony, gliding
gracefully through the air and landed silently in front of the brute.
“Let him go.” Shun’s eerie tone scared
everyone, even his fellow Saints who stood mesmerized by the scene unfolding
before them. The nebula chains jerked forward toward Hector, fighting to be
loose of Shun as he restrained their attack calmly. With a menacing smirk,
Hector refused to meet the Saint's request by tightening his grip around Hyoga,
pleased with the gasping choke from Cygnus. Hyoga’s face was turning blue as
his fingers dug into his captor’s hands, clawing at him to let go.
As the cold links wrapped around the wrists
that held Hyoga captive, Shun spoke once more, "I told you to let go of my
fiancée, did I not?" As if on cue, the chains tightened, crushing down on the
sinew and bone forcing Hector to release Cygnus.
Hyoga fell onto his knees, crumbling to the ground and passing out from a
lack of oxygen.
Shun whipped his chains in a tidal wave,
thrusting Hector back into the ground, a deep crater forming under the large
Saint. Seiya and Shiryu grabbed for Hyoga, pulling him to safety and checking
his vitals while Shun strolled over to the fallen enemy. “Tick, tock
Horolorgium, looks like your time has run out.” Shun narrowed his eyes and
lifted his chains for the final attack.
Tito and Emilio lunged from either side of
Shun, going for his arms. In a swift move, Shun lashed his chains at the
aggressors. The metal links locked around their wrists and Shun used his weight
to propel them into each other, dropping them in a heap on top of Hector. The
three groaned, not prepared to fight against Shun anymore.
“Shun!” Seiya called to him and he turned,
running back to his friends. He dropped to the ground next to Hyoga, pulling
the blond’s head in his lap. Shiryu went to finish off the South American
Saints, but they used the brief moment to disappear. Horolorgium was the keeper
of the clock and had the ability to manipulate time, but only for a few
minutes. He had used his powers to retreat, taking his battered Saint’s with
him.
Shun took Hyoga’s helmet off and moved the hair
out of his eyes, wiping the sweat and dirt off his face. Stirring, Hyoga opened
his eyes, trying hard to focus as Shun and Seiya fuzzed in and out. “Shun?” Cygnus
coughed, his throat sore and throbbing with red, purple and black bruising
starting to appear.
“Shhh…it’s okay. They’re gone.” Shun leaned
over and placed a soft, tender kiss against Hyoga’s damp forehead. “Did you…”
Hyoga coughed again, his eyes closing from the pain as he winced and attempted
to swallow. “Did you call me your fiancé?” Hyoga wanted to make sure he heard
Shun correctly earlier amidst all the chaos. Shun smiled, his old, loving self
returning with every passing moment.
“Yes. I did.” Shun helped Hyoga sit up,
leaning his lover against him as they tried to stand together. “So, you’ll
marry me?” Hyoga inquired, holding onto Shun for balance. “That’s what being a
fiancé means, right?” Shun gave him a lopsided grin then frowned as Hyoga
wheezed, trying to catch his breath. Hector had really done a number on his
throat.
“Here.” Hyoga reached inside his cloth,
digging in his pocket for the ring he had stowed away when danger presented
itself. He held the shiny, platinum band out to Shun in the palm of his hand.
“Is that an engagement ring?” Shun gasped, surprised Hyoga had actually bought
a ring. “Yes.” Hyoga reached for Shun’s hand and slid the symbol of his love
on the left ring finger, a perfect fit thanks to Saori.
Shun felt tears welling in his eyes,
unbelievably touched by the moment enveloping them. Seiya came around to hold
Hyoga up on his other side, tearing himself at the emotional sentiment. “Yes
Hyoga, I will marry you.” Shun looked at the ring then hugged his fiancé,
careful not to squeeze him too hard.
“It’s official!” Seiya called out to Shiryu
who returned to them with a smile. He was lucky to witness the event and be
there for the attack since he was only visiting for a few days before returning
to China and his pregnant wife. Since Saori was staying in Japan for the time
being, it was a quick trip when his presence was requested by his goddess.
The four Bronze Saints made their way back into
the mansion, escorting Hyoga who was the most injured. “Shun, what happened out
there?” Seiya asked, eager about Shun’s threatening attack. “Yeah! You were
totally awesome. What came over you?” Hyoga flattered his lover. “Oh, I guess
I was just terrified of losing you.” Shun smiled at Hyoga. “Terrified? You
were in a zone!” Shiryu commented as they all laughed. “Yes I was, a zone
where only one thing mattered.” Shun blushed as he looked at Hyoga again. If
love could move mountains, it could definitely possess Shun to fight like the
powerful Saint he was destined to be.
Present Day
“Wow! I’ve never heard it told like
that before.” Kado rambled excitedly! “Yes you have.” Hyoga frowned. “No.
You and Dad always tell it like ‘and then I was saved by your father,’ but we
never heard you were a total wreck and he was all super Saint commando, kicking
that guy’s ass!” Kado was grinning ear to ear as Hyoga reached over and lightly
pinched him on the shoulder to show his amusement. “I’ve been super Saint
commando and kicked plenty of ass too you know.”
They all laughed. Time was ticking by quickly
now that they were all distracted by something more positive. Shun’s
surgery seemed a million miles away even though they were all gathered in the
hospital waiting room. “Then those guys crashed your wedding, right?” Aiko
chimed in, anxious to hear about the wedding again.
“Well, kind of. It was much more involved than
that.” Ikki answered, remembering the event as if it was yesterday. “Tell
us!” Kado urged, turning to his suave uncle Ikki who he had admired and
idolized since he could remember. “I’ll tell this one since you and Shun
obviously skip out on all the good details.” Ikki chuckled. “Just leave out
the honeymoon.” Hyoga winked and both Kado and Aiko groaned, embarrassed that
their parents had sex. Ikki laughed deeply at Kado’s reddening face and started
to speak, but the door to the waiting room opened, halting him.
A surgical nurse stood in the door, removing
her mask. Hyoga bolted out of his chair, his heart thumping wildly in his
chest. Had it been long enough for them to receive news? What if that meant it
was bad news? What if they had lost him? They had all been too busy with the
story, they might not have noticed his cosmos dying. Hyoga tried desperately to
tune into Shun, but his emotional panic hindered his ability and he stared,
stricken in fear, at the nurse.
“I have some news about Shun.” She said…
