When it Rains it Pours

Hatsuharu watched the tiff knowing he couldn’t do anything. Kyo and Yuki always fought. Yuki knowing how Kyo was when it was raining never acted on the insults though. There was still no excuse for the savagely cruel words the rat had just said.
The look of pain on Kyo’s face and deep in those eyes cut Haru to the bone, how could Yuki do that. He knew what it was like for Kyo when it rained, why was he pursuing this, he knew Kyo couldn’t fight.

“If that’s the case you fucking rat, then why don’t you crawl back to Akito so he can lock you in that wonderful room he has just for you. I’m sure he misses you,” Kyo sneered in return.

Behind the cat, Shigure’s jaw dropped at the viciousness of the comment. From where Haru sat, he saw the effect of it first hand. The colour drained completely from Yuki’s face and he drew inward, his memories obviously working overtime. Seconds later, his eyes cleared into pure rage. There was only a split second of comprehension for everyone before Yuki launched himself at the cat.

Haru jumped to his feet but didn’t know what to do. He looked to Shigure and Tohru standing in the doorway, disbelief on both their faces.

“WHAT THE HELL WOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT?” screamed Yuki as his fist connected with Kyo’s face blood running from his lip.

Even though Kyo was under heavy attack he didn’t, couldn’t do anything. Fury went through Haru.

What could he do though? He couldn’t attack Yuki could he? He loved Yuki… but he loved Kyo too. He had for almost a year, although he told no one, not even Kyo himself. The only time he had shown it was that single morning… even after then he had respected Yuki too much to let the world know. All but acting like he hated the cat for all to see when the truth was the complete opposite because of Yuki and how much he respected him. And now he was doing this? What had he expected Kyo to do when he had said something like that…

A cry from Tohru who was still frozen in place brought him out of his thoughts his eyes focusing on a horrifying sight. Yuki had Kyo on the floor, one hand wrapped in the cats shirt as he rhythmically pounded at Kyo’s face. Haru’s mind went blank at the sight, before it kicked back into life in overdrive.

“You fucking bastard,” growled the ox as he wrenched Yuki off the cat and slammed a fist into his stomach sending him through the door.

Shigure had seen the expression on Haru’s face, the blankness as he had gone black, but he hadn’t expected this. Even as black Haru the ox had never ever tried to attack Yuki before.

Stalking towards the rat who lay on the floor staring dumbly at the ox, not really understanding that it was Haru who had attacked him. Haru grabbed him by the shirt and dragged the rat to his feet before round house kicking him out into the rain.

Yuki was faster and a better fighter than Hatsuharu one of the gifts of being the rat of the zodiac. However caught off guard like he had been Shigure couldn’t be sure how the fight would end. After all, Yuki had never once fought Haru let alone when he had gone black, and Shigure doubted the ox had ever turned on the rat before now.

Kyo groaned on the floor as Shigure walked over to check on him to see the damage. It wasn’t too bad, once the swelling came up he might not be able to see out of one already darkening eye. The cat groaned again, trying to sit up. Shigure offered his hand to help, glad when Kyo took it to help himself sit upright.

“Damn rat,” he sneered, wiping the blood from his lip. Looking around the room Kyo frowned realising that both Yuki and Haru had vanished from the room.

“What the hell is up with him anyway?” He cursed as he dragged himself to his feet and had to grab Shigure for support as he stumbled. The sound of fighting drew his attention outside and what he saw made his jaw drop.

“What’s wrong rat, can’t you fight someone when they can defend themselves?” yelled Haru before he just missed landing another punch in the rat’s stomach.

Shigure followed the cat’s gaze, he examined each fighter as they flew through attacking and blocking, each giving as good as they got.

Hatsuharu and Yuki were both covered in mud from the saturated ground and both were in good form, fighting perfectly. However the two blows Haru had gotten in on Yuki when he wasn’t expecting it seemed to have more of an effect than Shigure would have guessed. The rats movements slightly hindered as he compensated for the obvious pain in his midsection.

Just how hard had the ox hit him those first two times?

Yuki landed a heavy blow directly in the ox’s stomach, hard enough to double him over. Presented with a clear shot to the back of his neck Yuki took it making Haru hit the ground hard with a groan as the wind was knocked from him.
“Why are you doing this Haru?” panted Yuki, his arm pressed tightly against his stomach.

“Because what you did wasn’t right,” wheezed Haru as he struggled to his knees, finally able to breathe a little despite the pain.

His mind was crawling compared to how it had been a moment before. He was white again. Getting to his feet with a groan he watched the rat doubled over. One arm wrapped around his stomach in an almost perfect imitation of the rats own stance.

Kyo stumbled to the door, the world bucking and swaying beneath him. Being beaten on a day when it had been pouring with rain had left him only semi conscious. It was enough.

He couldn’t let Haru do this. It was his fight, not that idiot’s. Stumbling onto the porch, he stood on the edge a moment, steeling himself from the down pour. Stepping down onto the first step the world began to darken and he collapsed to the mud.
