The limo pulled up to the hotel. Alucard got out of the car first then helped Seras out. The two entered the hotel and approached the clerk.
"My husband and I would like a room for a couple of days." Seras said calmly.
"Name please?" The clerk requested.
"Mr. and Mrs. Holmwood." Seras answered.
"Room ten is available Mrs. Holmwood." The clerk said.
"Thank you." Seras replied.
The clerk gave Seras the key to her and Alucard's room. The two left the desk and went to get settled for the rest of the evening. Seras unlocked the room. A few moments later a young man arrived bringing in Seras's luggage from the limo to their room. Seras took her bags and carried them over to her bed. She plopped down feeling tired from the night's stake out.
Just as she was about to fall back she heard her cell phone ring. She took it out of her purse and answered.
"Agent Seras, did you and Alucard learn anything else about the transaction to take place after tomorrow night?" Integra asked.
"Yes sir. Alucard learned that the men are paying five million a piece for their share of the FREAK chip. The transaction is scheduled to take place at nine o'clock the night after tomorrow. One client has fallen ill and is sending a representative in his place. He's adding an extra two million on top of the original five million he agreed upon." Seras answered.
"Well done Agent Seras. You and Alucard are to remain at the hotel until we execute the raid. I suggest you get as much rest as you can tonight. The next few days and nights are going to be long ones." Integra replied.
"Yes sir." Seras answered and turned off her phone.
She rubbed her head feeling it spin from everything that had gone down. It made her sick Jan Valentine had almost carried her off. She felt even sicker now knowing what he was. She let out a long sigh before rubbing her arms.
"You should get some sleep. As my master said the next few nights are going to be busy for us." Alucard said standing at the window.
"What about you?" Seras asked.
"I sleep during the day when it's warranted. Get some rest. I will stand watch." Alucard answered.
Seras nodded and took out a nightshirt and headed toward the bathroom. She went in and closed the door. She rubbed her shoulders and began to undress. The mirror fogged over while her back was turned. She was stripped down to her white knickers. Alucard looked upon her through the mirror. He was careful not to get too enthralled lest she turn around and see him.
"So beautiful. I did not realize what a lovely creature she truly is." He thought to himself. The moment she began to turn around the mirror returned to normal. She never knew he'd looked this time. He smiled to himself as Seras walked out of the bedroom in her nightshirt. She turned down the bed and climbed in. Alucard walked over to the window while Seras settled into bed.
"Good night Alucard." Seras yawned.
"Good night police girl." Alucard replied.
Seras rolled her eyes. "Well at least he did call me by my name a few times." She thought to herself and closed her eyes.
The next morning Seras awoke. She looked around but could not find Alucard anywhere. "Where would he have gone? I thought he slept during the day." She said to herself as she began frantically looking around. She felt something under her bare foot. She looked down and saw a part of Alucard's coat flared on the ground. The vampire was sleeping under the bed. She came to the conclusion that since he didn't have a coffin at the moment, he made due with the next best thing. She also noticed the blinds and curtains were both drawn. Seras turned on a light and got an outfit out of her suitcase and went to dress for the day.
As Seras was inspecting herself in the bathroom mirror she heard a knock at the door. She felt a bit nervous about letting anyone. It would certainly be hard to explain why a man was sleeping under her bed. She debated for a moment about whether or not she should open the door.
"Miss Victoria, it's Walter. May I come in please?"
"Walter?" Seras asked as she hurried to the door. She opened it up and there was Walter with a briefcase and a strange looking medical bag.
"You might want to come in carefully. Alucard's asleep." Seras whispered.
"Oh there's no need to worry Miss Victoria. Alucard sleeps like the dead...literally. He won't be awoken by any noise we make. Sir Integra sent me to deliver Alucard's nightly ration. The blood will keep in the medical bag here. It's been specially built so that it stays at the correct temperature. You and Alucard will be staying here at the hotel tonight and tomorrow. She will be coming tonight to discuss plans for the raid tomorrow night. That is when the transaction is scheduled to take place. For the day, remain here at the hotel. As I said, Alucard will sleep until the sun sets. Sir Integra will arrive around eight o'clock tonight." Walter explained.
"All right Walter." Seras replied.
"I'd set the bag in a very cool and dry place until Alucard wakes up. Then just open the bag and let the blood thaw. He likes it slightly chilled but not completely frozen. I'd set the blood out at least thirty minutes before sunset. Alucard will take care of the rest." Walter said.
"Um, not to be rude, but where does the blood come from?" Seras asked a bit hesitantly.
"No need to worry. It's donated transfusion blood. Hellsing has it's connections to get the supplies we need. He usually drinks a pack a night, two if he's been on a rather rough mission." Walter answered.
"Oh. I was beginning to worry there for a moment." Seras said.
"Oh no Miss Victoria. It's nothing like that I assure you. I will inform Sir Integra you and Alucard will be waiting for her in room ten. I must take my leave now." Walter said as he exited the room. Seras walked over to the medical bag.
"Cool, dry place. Hmmm, where would be the best place to set this?" She asked herself. She looked toward the bathroom. "I guess the shower would be as good a place as any to set this until it's time to open it. Can't think of a cooler place than that." She said and carried the medical bag into the bathroom. She placed the bag in the shower and shut the curtain. Then she shut the door to keep out any light. Seras took a book out of her suitcase and started to read. It was going to be a long day so she needed something to keep her entertained.
It was half an hour before sundown. Seras took the medical bag from its resting place in the bathroom. Then she did as Walter instructed and opened the bag. She set the open bag on her bed. She stood for a moment looking down at the blood pack. A slightly disturbing shiver ran up her spine realizing that this was Alucard's dinner. "Well, he is a vampire. Vampire's need blood to survive. It's not like anyone was killed for this blood. It was donated." She told herself.
Seras stood at the window peering out of the closed curtains and blinds. She watched as the sun descended on the horizon. The sky began to grow dark as the sun's light faded. Seras looked down at her watch. It was almost seven o'clock. Integra would be arriving within the hour. She heard movement coming from the vicinity of her bed. She turned around to see Alucard standing beside the bed. He looked across to see the blood pack waiting for him in the medical bag.
"I see Walter was kind enough to drop off my dinner." Alucard said picking the blood pack up out of the medical bag. He looked over at Seras. She opened the curtains and blinds. The sun had just finished setting. Alucard walked over to the window and stood beside Seras.
"It is going to be a beautiful moonlit night. Pity we cannot be outside where we can truly enjoy it." He said taking in the view of the full moon.
"Sir Integra will be arriving at eight o'clock. She wants to discuss plans for the raid tomorrow night." Seras replied.
"Did you sleep well last night?" Alucard asked.
"Yes." Seras answered. "And you? Did you sleep well...today?" She questioned.
"Well, I can say sleeping under the bed wasn't the most pleasant place I've slept. But I've had worse." Alucard answered.
"Why didn't you tell me you needed a place to sleep? The bed is big enough for two people you know." Seras said. She blushed when she realized how her words had come out. She saw Alucard smirk at the comment.
"Now now, police girl. I'm old enough to be your ancestor you know." The vampire said with a chuckle.
"Alucard, that's not what I meant. I mean if you needed somewhere a little more comfortable you could have used the bed." Seras replied. She was a tad annoyed by the vampire's remark, but not anywhere near as bothered as she usually was.
"I'm used to sleeping in a very dark place. Under the bed is about as close to a coffin as I could get here." Alucard said.
"I could never imagine doing that, sleeping in a coffin. I think I'd be scared half to death." Seras commented.
"It's something I quickly got used to. Sleeping in coffins comes with the territory for a creature like myself. The first time I had to do it was very unnerving. I was in vampire years just a newborn and had not completely let go of my human habits. Sleeping in coffins was for the dead. I had not completely come to terms with the fact I was not a living human being anymore. I feared what would happen to me after I got in the coffin and closed my eyes." Alucard explained.
"What happened? Was it as frightening as you thought?" Seras asked.
"At first there was only darkness. My eyes were open, but all I could see was the cold blackness that surrounded me. I wanted to rip the lid off and get out of the damn thing as quickly as I could. But as the sun rose I could feel my body succumb to some strange trance as if someone had put a spell upon me. My eyes closed, and I lay there as still as a true corpse. I felt nothing; not fear, not pain, not much of anything actually. It was as if I'd went into some form of suspended animation. Then when the sun set, I felt the imitation of life begin to stir within me again." The vampire finished.
"It's almost eight o'clock. Time certainly flies." Seras replied.
"Not when all you have is time police girl. My master is here. We should prepare for the meeting." Alucard said, his voice suddenly becoming serious.
Luke and Jan stood at the skybox looking down at the club patrons. "Damn, that hot chick didn't show up tonight." Jan complained.
"Probably because you scared her off with your pre-pubescent behavior." Luke scolded.
"Come on bro. I'd have reeled her in if it hadn't been for mister tall, pale and creepy. If it hadn't been for the fact that we had customers, I'd have ripped him a few new openings." Jan said gruffly.
"I think you would have gotten your junvinile ass handed back to you little brother. I got a look at him. I'm afraid you would have been far out of your league with him." Luke replied.
"No way! I could have taken him! Though I have to admit something bout that guy didn't feel right. His skin was pretty pale, and he wore sunglasses inside. I mean, why would a guy want to wear sunglasses at night anyway? Unless he was really drunk. But I never saw him touch a drink the whole night."
"That does sound odd...very odd." Luke said scratching his head.
Integra sat with Seras and Alucard going over the plans for the raid. "Alucard, I'm going to have you enter the club alone. With your powers, you can slip past security undetected. I want you to listen in on the transaction as it takes place. When it is finished, then we will spring our trap. Officer Seras will be stationed close to the outside of the club with a small unit of Hellsing Troops. When I have received word from Alucard, the raid will begin. Remember that there will be human occupants in the club so we want to try to avoid any unnecessary casualties." Integra said.
Seras and Alucard nodded in unison. Integra continued speaking. "Alucard, you will have two primary targets. Those two targets will be the Valentine Brothers. I want them found and silenced before they can cause any more trouble. And you should be aware that those two have probably got a stash of ghouls ready to cover their pathetic rear ends if the fight gets too much for them. The human Hellsing troops will assist Officer Seras with the elimination of any ghouls." Integra said and turned to Seras. "Leave Luke and Jan Valentine to Alucard. Do not engage them unless you have no other option but to do so." She finished.
"Yes sir." Seras replied.
Integra had Walter bring what looked like a large and streamlined brief case. "This is for you Alucard. I think you will find it quite useful in tomorrow night's raid." Integra said as she motioned for Walter to open the case. Seras giggled slightly at the ear to ear grin that appeared on Alucard's face. He looked like a boy opening up a brand new toy on Christmas morning.
"This is the Thirteen Millimeter Jackul. It is a semi-automatic FREAK weapon. It takes sixteen round magazines with explosive silver bullets specially made for this gun. And of course the bullets have already been blessed. I'd say it's far too much gun for the average human to deal with." Walter stated rather proudly.
"It's perfect. You've outdone yourself on this one Walter." Alucard said looking at his new toy with wide-eyed delight. "I look forward to seeing exactly what this beauty can do."
"Miss Victoria, I also took the liberty of making a gun similar to Alucard's Four Fifty Four Casul, but smaller so for your delicate hands. And there should be plenty of silver bullets for the raid." Walter said handing Seras a smaller gun holder.
"Thanks Walter." Seras said inspecting the weapon.
"All right, you two know what to do. We leave for Valentine Dolls tomorrow night. Seras, you will ride in the back of one of the armor trucks along with the human unit. Alucard will go to the club on his own. We do nothing until we hear from him. Understood?" Integra asked.
"Yes sir." Seras answered.
"All right. Seras, you should take this night to get as much rest as you can. Tomorrow night is going to be very busy." Integra said.
"Yes Sir Integra." Seras replied.
Integra and Walter left the hotel. Alucard and Seras were left alone with each other once more.
Seras watched Alucard looking over his Jackul. She looked down at her own gun. Hers looked tiny in comparison to his. But she had small hands as compared to Alucard's much larger ones. "I've never seen a gun that big before." She commented.
"Really? You know police girl, this isn't the only...big gun I have." Alucard smirked.
"Yes I know. You have your Casul." Seras said rolling her eyes.
"I wasn't talking about my Casul, police girl." Alucard replied with a wicked smile.
It took a second before Seras finally realized just what Alucard was talking about. Her face turned bright red when she caught the meaning of his comment.
"Um, if you'll excuse me for a moment, I'm going to get changed." Seras said gathering her nightshirt up and heading toward the bathroom. She looked back at Alucard about to say something.
"I know police girl. No peeking." Alucard said with an innocent look on his face.
"You better not unless you want to end up with glitter eyes again." Seras replied sarcastically.
Alucard chuckled to himself remembering the night he'd peeped on Seras getting undressed. He also remembered Walter's expression after seeing his old friend's face covered with gold and silver glitter. But he wasn't in the mood for cleaning it out of his eyes tonight, so he decided he'd behave himself for once and let the police girl have her bit of privacy to change into her night clothes.
A few moments later Seras emerged wearing a knee length cotton nightshirt. Alucard looked down and noticed something on her ankle. An amused smile graced his lips. "Why police girl, you didn't tell me you had a tattoo." He said.
"Oh that. I got it after I got involved with MI-5. Some friends of mine dared me to get a tattoo on my ankle. I got one of a butterfly. I didn't want anything that I wouldn't regret being on my body for the rest of my life." Seras replied. "I don't suppose you have one." She said.
"Actually I do, though I don't think a tattoo is what one would call this." Alucard responded and took off one of his white gloves. He turned his hand around so Seras could see the back of it. She gasped at what she saw.
"Alucard, what happened to your hand?" Seras asked in shock.
"It is the mark of Hellsing, and the symbol of my servitude. I was branded with this mark when I was captured by the Hellsing family." Alucard answered. His face became grave.
"But I thought you had the power to heal any wound you receive." Seras said.
"I do. I can regenerate wounds that are beyond comprehensible to humans. Every wound except this one." Alucard replied looking at the scars on his hand. "They captured me over a century ago. The runes around the symbol are binding runes. These runes and the blood of the Hellsing family keep me bound as their servant. As long as the Hellsing family bloodline continues, I am bound to serve human masters." The vampire explained.
"Alucard, you said you were captured by Hellsing. That wouldn't happen to be..."
"Yes." Alucard replied in low husky voice. "Van Helsing, my master Integra's ancestor. He is the same Van Helsing from a particular book which I loathe with great passion." Alucard growled.
It all became clear to Seras in that one moment. She suddenly realized who Alucard was, who he really was. "Oh my God..." She gasped to herself.
"Beginning to put the puzzle together police girl?" Alucard asked with a half-crooked smirk.
"Bram Stoker's book, Hellsing...that means that you're...Dracula." Seras replied in a stunned tone. "No wonder you hate the story."
"That is part of the reason, but there are others. It is mostly because of the inaccuracies. It has given humans a misguided and distorted view of who I am." Alucard said.
"Inaccuracies, like what?" Seras asked.
"For starters I am not a count. I was a prince actually. And I didn't live in Transylvania. I lived in Romania. I was named after my father, Vlad Dracul. I was named Vlad Dracula. My father and I both belonged to the noble and sacred order of The Dragon." Alucard answered.
"Wait, I remember reading in a world history book about a man named Dracula. They called him Vlad Tepes." Seras said.
"It means Impalor. That was the name given to me because I impaled my enemies in battle. It was also a method I used to execute criminals. I was known as Vlad the Impalor to my many detractors." Alucard replied.
"Alucard, not to be rude but, what caused this sudden change in attitude toward me? I mean, when we first met you were trying to drive me bloody insane. Why the change of heart?" Seras asked.
"I looked into your memories the night before we came here. I had to know why you weren't backing down from me the way all the other human partners I've had did. None of them ever measured up to Walter. None of them could replace Walter. I didn't want anyone as my partner except Walter." Alucard answered.
"But I wasn't trying to take Walter's place. I was chosen for an important position in Hellsing. I just wanted to do as good a job as I could do." Seras replied.
"I know that now. It wasn't until I looked into your mind and saw what happened with your father that I realized how strong a human you really are. The others were weak. I abhor weakness. It was a moment of weakness that won me this slave brand on the back of my hand. A few unlucky souls ended up getting killed in the line of duty. But the others were too weak to handle me. I had my fun with them. I did worse to them than I did to you." Alucard said.
"Worse?" Seras gulped nervously.
"What I did to you would be considered mere parlor tricks compared to how much I scared some of my partners out of their minds...literally. I thought you were no different from the others. But when you decided to stay on as my partner despite all that I'd done, it stunned me. I admire the fact that you were willing to fight to the death despite the fact you were only a child. Walter was like. He wasn't one to give in to anyone, least of all me." Alucard replied.
"How long have you and Walter known each other?" Seras asked.
"I met him when he was a teenager. We ended up in quite a few battles together. I remember seeing him fight the first time. He moved like a streak of lightening with fine silver wires coming out of his gloves. He took down entire lines of ghouls as if he were mowing grass. I came to know him as 'The Angel of Death.' He had a lust for killing his enemies that rivaled my own. He looked at them with absolute loathing instead of fear. Yes, there was the rare occasion when he was actually nervous about how a battle would turn out, but he never let it overtake him. He had an expression of defiance instead of fear. He actually reminded me a bit of myself in my youth. I found him a suitable match as a partner despite the fact he's a human. He won my admiration and my respect. But he was also one of the few humans to...break my heart." Alucard answered, his face becoming serious.
"I don't understand." Seras said.
"I wanted to turn him. He was twenty years old when I approached him. He was one of the few humans I saw worthy of my gift of immortality. We'd fought side by side for five years. I didn't want to see him fade from youth to old age. It was as if I was striving to preserve a part of myself when I was younger. We fought like two madmen possessed by the devil. No targets ever escaped us. I felt as if we were near invincible. We would have been..." Alucard stopped for a moment.
"Would have been?" Seras asked.
"We would have been if he would have accepted my offer to turn him. But he didn't. He wanted to remain human. He felt it was his duty to Hellsing. I remember how his refusal made me feel inside. He was my partner and my comrade. I wanted him to be more, much more. But he made it clear going that far wasn't going to happen. It is rare that I respect a human's wishes enough to forego my own desires. But I did and still do respect Walter, so I backed off with my request. It hurt me inside knowing that his youth would fade. It hurts me still knowing that one day the true *angel of death* will reach out for him and take him away. Just as it will reach out and take my master away from me as well one day. Sure enough Integra will marry and produce an heir so that I remain bound to the Hellsing family." Alucard answered.
"Must get so lonely for you, being the only vampire I mean." Seras replied.
Alucard did not respond. He got up and walked toward the window and looked outside at the night sky. He turned to Seras. "You should get some rest. Tomorrow night is going to be very interesting for the both of us to say the least." The vampire said.
"Yes, I guess I should go on and get some sleep. Well, good night Alucard." Seras replied.
"Sleep well police girl." Alucard responded in turn and went back to his watch.
