School started and before they all knew it, two months had come and gone. Kyo and Tohru would still little glances at each other, Yuki had stopped smiling and Haru grew more worried. For some reason what Houseki had said kept coming back to him. ‘But if this isn’t over yet, why does every thing feel like it’s at a stand still?’
“Tohru,” Kyo in a soft voice. The rice ball perked at her name, “Come on” He said simply. The cat felt himself smile at her happiness. He hid it behind a cough and left the class room. Tohru happily hopped behind him.
“Very interesting. Their electric signals are vibrating at the same frequency.” Hanajima said.
“What do you mean?” Uo asked.
“It’s hard to explain… everyone vibrates differently. Only people, who are very close, like couples, will have similar electric signals.”
“Couples huh?” Uo jumped from her seat and ran out of the door. She looked around for her oldest friend. She had almost given up somewhere behind the school when she spotted the cat and the rice ball holding hands. Kyo moved closer and whispered something in Tohru’s ear. She giggled and half heartedly tried to pull away. The cat laughed joyously, a sound Uo had never heard from him. She recognized it, though. It was the sound of someone who was finally free. Uo recognized it alright. She laughed like that when she was finished with her gang. Her little Tohru had freed him from whatever he was trapped under. And the smile on Tohru’s face was defiantly one of love. Uo half heartedly smiled at that thought, even though she almost felt like crying. Tohru was in love. She probably didn’t realize it yet, being as naïve as she was. Kyo had leaned in again and was now speaking in a low voice to the riceball who was looking up at him like he was the only thing in her little world. Uo stepped around the building and closed in on the two who had yet to notice them. She stood behind Kyo for a little while before laying an open handed smack against his head. The cat jumped three feet in the air.
“What’d you do that for?” He hissed at the Yankee.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She inspected her nails.
“Oh, hi, Uo. What are you doing out here?” Tohru felt the blush creep up her cheeks.
“Looking for you.” She answered simply.
“I see.” The riceball was now a bright shade of red.
“And why did you have to hit me?” Kyo shook his fist in her face.
“I don’t know,” The former Yankee thought about it for a second. She shrugged, “It doesn’t matter. The important thing is I approve.” Uo winked at Tohru and walked a way.

Yuki and Haru made their way outside so they could be picked up by their ride. Momiji hummed as he walked behind them. This year, instead of wearing the complete girl’s uniform, he decided to buy the boys’ shirt. Hatori sat in the car reading a book, waiting for the boy’s so they could all go home. The title read, “Summer’s Desires” ‘I have seriously got to have a talk with Shigure about his twisted mind’, the dragon sighed. The boys entered the car silently. Yuki stared out the window.
He thought about Kyo and Tohru. No matter how much hated the cat, the rat loved the girl more. Her happiness was priority. That night he’d seen them kiss broke his heart. He wanted Tohru. Yuki wanted to be the one to give her nice things and kiss her and… oh gods did he want to kiss her. But she never had looked at him the way she looked at Kyo. And he got a kiss for the hair clip, where as Yuki got a ‘thank you’ for the ribbon he’d given her. She had made her choice and maybe it didn’t matter that the sweet innocent Tohru didn’t realize the rat was hurt. No, it would not be a good idea for him to bring his feelings to her attention. It would only serve to stress her out.
“Hey,” Haru whispered into Yuki’s ear, “You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Was the rat’s automatic response. The ox didn’t look convinced.
“Hey, yeah, Yuki, you’ve been really down lately. Is it because you had to move back to the main house?” Momiji leaned forward to peer around Haru.
“Don’t worry I’m just still trying to adjust. Tomorrow, I’m going to visit Onwa. Do you want to come?” Yuki looked at the ox.
“I’d love to but I’m busy. I’m sorry.”
“Oh don’t worry about it.” Yuki raised his hand to hold off any objections the ox might come up with.
Yuki made it home just in time for lunch to be put on the table. The cook bowed and excused himself.
The rat ate in solitude wondering what was doing on at Shigure’s house.
Mean while at said dog’s house it was pandemonium. Shigure was teasing Kyo that Tohru was wearing the hair clip he’d bought at the festival again. Kazuma smiled at Kyo’s blush, hiding it behind his tea cup.
“Master? Would you like more tea?” Tohru poked her head out of the kitchen as she cooked.
“I’ll get it.” Kyo brought the pot to his foster father.
“Thank you, Kyo.” The man bowed. The cat just made a noncommittal grunt in return.
“So Kazuma, how are things at the Dojo?” Shigure asked.
“They are going well, thank you.”
“Lunch will be ready in a few minutes.” Tohru called to the house in general.
“Thank you Tohru. You know, Kyo, you really should marry her quickly, If you don’t I might just come steal her away from you.” Shigure internally smiled at the cat who was now turning red in anger and embarrassment. “Really,” the dog went on, “I don’t know what you could see in someone so inexperienced as our Kyo.”
“Hey!” The cat yelled. Tohru emerged from the kitchen, whispered something to him and disappeared again. Kyo sighed and sat down. ‘Very interesting’ both Shigure and Kazuma thought.
“Lunch is ready!” the riceball exclaimed happily. Kyo hopped up and helped her carry the food out to the table. Once food was out and everyone was enjoying the meal Tohru had prepared, the conversation turned to Yuki.
“I hear he’s still having trouble adjusting to life at the main house.” Kazuma said sipping his tea.
“Oh, Yuki!” Tohru held her hand to her chest.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine.” Kyo said sarcastically.
“Do you think so?” the riceball looked at him hopefully. Shigure and Kazuma just kept silent. “Something tells me this will get worse before it gets better.” Tohru sighed.

Yuki stored his stolen parcel in the top drawer of his dresser. He took a deep breath looking into the mirror. The rat’s eyes were hollow, dark purple and if possible, he was paler then before. Yuki took another deep breath placing his hands over his eyes. He exhaled and removed them gazing at himself once again. If possible, the rat looked worse. Tomorrow Yuki decided. He’d make his sacrifice tomorrow.
