" musicaaaaaaaa cue":
Tezuka Kunimitsu opened his eyes, the brown irises clearing up a little. He blinked a few times, not recognizing his surroundings. He tried to sit up, but he was covered with tubes and wires. He moved his head to the side and saw that he was in a hospital room. Then a wave of understanding hit the fifteen year old. He had coughed up blood yesterday, and apparently he had passed out during the family dinner. Remembering that, he gasped. The doctor must have seen the bruise on his back, which would mean that his parents knew about it as well.
He closed his eyes, his head always hurt when he tried to look around without his glasses on. Also he wanted to think. He couldn’t believe his life had become so complicated in just the last few days. He had finally gotten together with the person he had been in love with for what seemed like forever, then gotten kissed by one of his best friends, who later attacked him with a tennis racket. Then he lost the one he loved and passed out in front of his family. What happened to the simple life of tennis and studies that he used to live? Tezuka felt like crying, but seeing as how he didn’t want any attention right now, he held it in.
He heard his mother walk into the room and sat in the chair next to the bed. He kept his eyes closed tightly. He heard her sigh gently, and a few minutes later, Tezuka heard another set of footsteps, and heard a man’s voice that he didn’t recognize.
“Tezuka-san?” The voice said solemnly.
“Sensei?”
“Kunimitsu-kun has what is called Pulmonary Contusion.” The doctor said, “In other words, bruising on the lung. It is typically caused by some sort of blunt trauma. The bruise on his back is directly related I’m sure.”
“Is he going to be alright?” Tezuka heard his mother ask quietly.
“He will be fine, although we are going to need to keep him here for a few days for observation. Sometimes it can lead to further problems, and we need to watch for signs of that.”
“Thank you Sensei.” His mother said.
Tezuka heard the doctor leave the room and he opened eyes.

Kikumaru Eiji opened his eyes and sat up in his bed. He had tears running down his cheek after the dream he had been having. He angrily wiped his face, tired of always seeming to be the one crying over everything. His eyes began to burn from wiping them and he closed them tightly, moaning and laying back down. He could tell already that this was going to be a horrible day. His stomach knotted up and he thought of Tezuka in the hospital. He knew that he should go see his captain, just out of respect of their friendship, but he didn’t know if he was strong enough to go through that.
He opened his eyes and blinked a few times, tearing up as he sat up again. Stretching, he stood up and walked into the bathroom. After using it, he stood looking at himself in the mirror. His black eye was already beginning to fade. He knew it wouldn’t last long. His cuts and bruises never did. He opened the medicine cabinet and looked through his toothpaste collection. It was Sunday, and on Sundays he got to pick which flavor he wanted. It was kinda like a treat to himself. He pulled a few tubes out and swore, not finding the Melon Mint. His sister had once again finished his favorite kind. He took out his second choice, Cinnamon, and brushed his teeth. He walked back into his bedroom and yawned against his hand. He didn’t know what he was going to do today, but he was going to forbid himself from going to the hospital. He didn’t want to do anything, but he knew that being lazy would not help the situation any. He pulled on some clothes and went to the kitchen. He made himself one of his trademark omelets and sat down to eat. While he was eating, the phone rang. He let it ring five times before realizing that he was alone in the house. He went and picked it up.
“Eiji-senpai!” He heard the voice say.
“Well hello there.” Eiji said, smiling.
“Wanna take a fella to lunch today Senpai?”
“Of course, as long as you promise not to over do yourself again.” Eiji said with a giggle.
“Who? Me? Never. I will pick you up at your house at one, alright?”
“Alright Momo. I will be waiting.”
Eiji hung up the phone and giggled. Momo was always good for some fun when he was down. The black haired regular had been one of his favorites since they had met during Momo’s first year just a little over one year ago. He finished his breakfast and cleaned his dishes up. Then something hit him. Momo was expecting him to pay, but he didn’t know if he had the funds. He went to his room and grabbed his wallet. Oh yeah he had plenty. That’s because Tezuka had paid for his movie the other night.
Thinking of Tezuka again made Eiji sad, and he sat down, his shoulders slumped. He just wanted to know what was wrong with Tezuka. If only there was a way to find out without actually going to the hospital. Then it hit him. He grabbed the phonebook and found the hospital. Grabbing the phone, he dialed. He got a nurse and asked about Tezuka. He froze as the nurse said words that he didn’t understand. ‘Pulmonary Contusion’ he thought. ‘That sounds serious.’
“Is he going to be alright?’ Eiji asked the woman, his voice shaking.
‘He is going to be just fine, he just has to stay a few days.” The nurse said kindly, picking up on his tone. “I can connect you to his room if you’d like, he is awake now and you can speak with him yourself.”
“No that’s alright, thank you.” He said politely and hung up the phone. He leaned against the wall and sighed. He was glad that Tezuka was going to be alright, and he realized he had been breathing heavily. Walking back into his room, he threw himself on his bed and waited for one o’clock.

“Kunimitsu!” Tezuka’s mother breathed when she saw her son’s eyes were open. “I was so worried, you just fell forward last night, and we didn’t know what was wrong.”
“I’m alright.” He said quietly. His throat was dry. He looked over and grabbed the glass of water by the bed.
“Kunimitsu, what happened to your back?” His mother asked him.
Tezuka took a long drink of water, giving himself time to think. He watched his mother watching him, aware that she was getting impatient.
“It happened during practice the other day. My doubles partner took a bad swing, and I guess I didn’t think about it after that.” He said, looking at his mother to see if his lie would work on her. She looked troubled for a minute but her expression cleared a little and she sighed.
“You shouldn’t have hidden it from us Kunimitsu.” She said, “It could have been something worse than this. You seemed to get lucky this time.”
‘Sure’ he thought, ‘lucky. Yeah I am just a magnet for good luck these days.’
“I know, and I am sorry that I made you worry.” He said aloud.
“You really need to be resting.” His mother said, sighing again.
“I just woke up.” He said, moaning.
“Don’t argue with your mother Kunimitsu.”
“Sorry.”

Momoshiro Takeshi walked up Eiji’s driveway at a few minutes before one. He was dressed in jeans and a black hoodie. Eiji opened the door as he approached it.
“Senpai!” Momo said casually, and all he saw was a red blur as Eiji ran to him and glomped him as usual. Momo put his arms around Eiji, hugging him back. He liked his arms around the senpai. He wasn't sure how long he had liked the 3rd year, but today, over lunch he was going to set his feelings on the metaphorical table.
"Momo, hello" Eiji said, finally pulling back from the hug.
When he did, he watched the look on Momo's face change from a smile to a look of horror.
"What happened to you Senpai?" He asked, his eyes wide. "Who did that?"
"Nobody, silly, I was just practicing and the racket slipped from my hand and bounced off the ground and came back up and hit me." Eiji lied, flashing a smile.
Momo didn't look at all satisfied, but Eiji seemed to think he had something else on his mind, because he just closed his mouth and cleared his throat.
“Ready?” He asked, smiling down at Eiji.
“You know it.” He grabbed Momo’s arm and they started walking. They got to the end of Eiji’s street and Momo led him across the street to the new little restaurant that had opened there.
“Being expensive today, eh Momo?” Eiji chuckled.
“Actually, this is my treat.” He said back, and Eiji almost fell over. This was the first time Momo had treated him.
“Wow, really?”
“Don’t be so surprised Senpai!” Momo said, his violet eyes widening innocently. “You can’t be expected to buy all the time.”
They got inside and sat down. While waiting to order, Momo watched Eiji look over the menu. When the waitress came and they ordered, Momo smiled at how sweetly Eiji treated her. Eiji treated everyone sweetly it seemed. He began to wonder if he should make his feelings known. His stomach bunched up at the thought of what Eiji would say when he said he had feelings for him. He was still pondering this when the waitress brought their food. Eiji began to eat, and then he noticed Momo had yet to touch his food. Seeing this as a very uncharacteristic Momo, he felt he had to say something.
“You haven’t touched your Katsudon, Momo, are you feeling alright?” Eiji asked, his blue eyes shining.
Kikumaru senpai, I need to say something to you.” Momo said quietly, finally deciding it was now or never. “I like you.”
Eiji blinked, and smiled. “Well, umm, I like you too Momo or else I wouldn’t be here.”
“I mean,” Momo said, taking a deep breath. “I really like you, like in a different way. In a boyfriend kind of way. I have for a long time, but it has taken me awhile to get the courage to tell you.”
Eiji looked at his hands. He had no idea what to say to that. He knew that if he went with Momo, it would be completely on the rebound, and he didn’t know if he had the heart to potentially hurt one of his best friends. On the other hand, feelings could develop, seeing as they were already so close, and Eiji felt very deeply for Momo.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.” Momo said shakily. “I’m sorry, I’m just gonna go.” He stood up and put some money on the table for the bill.
Eiji reached out and grabbed him by the wrist. “Sit back down please.” He said quietly, and he looked at Momo, a smile on his face.
