Ch. 7 – Damaged
******************************************************************************
The walls separating Tamahome’s mind from Tasuki’s cracked a
little. Tamahome pulled back on the
reigns and his horse skidded to a stop as disjointed, panicked thoughts seeped
into his mind.
Fuckin’bastardNakago-whatthehellareyadoin’-STOP!!
Off balance, Tamahome teetered for a second before
ungracefully dismounting. He struggled
to make sense of what was happening, cursing the fact that Tasuki was so good
at keeping him out. He was only getting
thoughts and emotions. Without the
images to go along with them, he couldn’t tell what was happening.
“What’s going on?” Chichiri demanded.
“It’s Tasuki… Nakago has him!” he broke off, reeling as he
felt something in Tasuki’s mind shatter.
“Gods…” Nuriko breathed.
“Then what are we standing around here for?!”
“Because by the time we got there it’d be too late to help
him! I’ve gotta stop him right
now!” Tamahome’s mark appeared as he
called on his power. He began to settle
himself into the bond, but Chichiri realized what he was trying to do. Afraid of what it would do to the
troublesome bandit he had come to care for, the mage grabbed him by the arm,
breaking his concentration and stopping him fast. “Don’t! It’s too
dangerous! He can’t channel that kind
of power; you could kill him!”
Tamahome turned and glared at him angrily, but Chichiri
stood his ground. Before he could
answer the mage, the bond re-opened so suddenly and forcefully it made
Tamahome’s vision blur for a moment.
Disgust-Self-Hate-Nonononono-I’msosorryTama
Overwhelmed by both Tasuki’s rage at Nakago and disgust for
himself, Tamahome fell forward and retched helplessly. It reminded him too much of the hell Tasuki
had pulled him out of after his family was killed. “Dammit, what the hell is he doing to you…?”
Mitsukake’s hand touched his shoulder and the nausea
subsided, leaving an all-consuming fury in its wake. Whatever had just happened had broken something in Tasuki’s
mind. And Nakago had done it. Nakago…
“I’ll kill him. I’m
gonna fucking kill him!” Tamahome
snarled, getting back to his feet and radiating an angry red energy. Chichiri would have asked what happened, but
furious purple eyes caught and held him.
“I don’t know what Nakago is doing to him, but whatever it is, it’s bad
enough to make him hate himself, Chichiri!” The mage paled. “How long
am I supposed to let this go on?!”
::He’s breaking you Tas, I can feel it! Let me stop him!::
Chichiri flinched, but didn’t let him go, until Mitsukake
spoke. “He knows what he’s doing. Let him go.”
Reluctantly, the mage backed off.
::It’s too late; we’re outta time. I’m so sorry… I couldn’t stop him… He’s gonna…
I don’t want ya goin’ through this too…:: Tasuki tried to close the bond down again, but Tamahome fought
him to keep it open.
“Tasuki may not be able to channel my power, but I can. For once, I’m going to protect him!”
Tamahome growled. Angrily, he turned
his focus inward and took a deep breath to steady himself. ‘Don’t think about it. Just do it.’
::Dammit Tas, stop protecting me and let me help
you! Let me in, NOW!::
The fraction of a second it took Tasuki to comply with his
demand seemed far too long a wait.
Tamahome let the power within him build. Fed by his rage, it grew and magnified at an astounding rate.
Nuriko gasped. “He’s
putting off more energy than he did the day his family was killed. I didn’t think it was possible…” For an instant, Nuriko was afraid this would
be a repeat of the first time he’d seen this happen to Tamahome, but only for
an instant. This was different.
His qi glowed brighter and angrier, only this time, he
seemed to be in control of it. With an
enraged roar, he pulled the bond open as much as he could and forced all of
that furious, roiling energy into it.
All of the accumulated energy sucked itself back into
Tamahome’s body as he focused it inward.
He went rigid for a moment, purple eyes wide open and mouth twisted into
a snarl.
Chichiri, Mitsukake and Nuriko all collectively held their
breath, afraid the slightest movement might have some negative outcome on the
unseen battle being waged before them.
Then, it was over.
Tamahome’s eyes faded back to gray before sliding closed, and he slumped
to the ground.
******************************************************************************
Tasuki could handle threats. He could handle violence.
He could handle pain. But he had
no idea how to handle this forced intimacy, and the blond bastard knew it.
Nakago was touching him in a sick mockery of
tenderness. The teasing touches along
his flanks, his nipples, his stomach, sensitized his body and left him
shivering. Tasuki’s mind screamed at
his body to stop reacting; that this was not Tamahome, but his body–
programmed to respond to those gentle touches– didn’t seem to care. It didn’t take long for Nakago to tease him
to hardness.
‘This can’t be happenin’,’ thought Tasuki desperately. “Dammit you fucking waste of life! If yer do this thing, then get on with it!”
Nakago chuckled and slid the bandit’s pants off, exposing
him to his view. He hummed
appreciatively. “I’m sure you’d prefer
that. Sorry, but it’s not going to go
that way, dear boy. This is going to
happen, and you will enjoy it.”
Matching words to action, he began to fist Tasuki’s erection, making
Tasuki bite down a moan. “You should be
grateful. I very rarely go out of my
way to see to my partner’s pleasure.”
Tasuki tried to refuse to give the bastard the satisfaction
of making any noise. He bit his lip hard
to keep quiet, but tears of frustration began to form when he realized how
close he was to climax. Nakago began to
pump him harder while his free hand slowly made its way from Tasuki’s hip up to
his neck. He smirked as Tasuki’s body
shivered hard at the touch. He reached
up and pulled the bandit’s head to the side before leaning down to tease at his
neck with licks and nibbles.
When Tasuki began to tremble harder under him, Nakago began
to stroke him faster. He gave one last
lick and a hard bite, and Tasuki couldn’t hold it back anymore. His eyes squeezed tightly shut as he came
with an agonized cry, his seed hitting Nakago’s hand and his own body. Tears slipped from the corners of his
eyelids, losing their warmth as they splashed softly on the cold stone floor.
“You’re truly beautiful when you cry, Tasuki-chan. And so very responsive,” he said, moving
down to lick at a hard nipple to emphasize the point. “I’m beginning to see just what Tamahome finds so fascinating
about you.” The boy’s eyes flew open to
glare at him through the tears, tormented and damaged, but still defiant. Nakago wondered what it would take to
terminate that defiance, permanently.
The idea… intrigued him. “I may
just have to keep you for myself. You’d
make quite a prize chained to my bed and ready for use,” Nakago said. “You’d also make a useful tool, properly
broken and trained, of course. How
would you like to kill off your friends for me?”
Tasuki felt sick.
Had there been anything in his stomach, he would’ve lost it at that
point. “Just. Shut. Up. Keep me alive an’ I swear I’ll find a way ta
kill you,” he growled.
“Is that so?” Nakago
brought his power to bear yet again, pinning Tasuki to the ground. The bandit was so exhausted that the show of
force wasn’t necessary, but Nakago wanted him to have a reminder of the
hopelessness of his situation. He ran
one of his fingers through the spilled seed on Tasuki’s stomach before plunging
it roughly into the bandit’s body.
Tasuki grunted at the intrusion and Nakago smiled, enjoying his captive’s
helpless distress.
“So tight for me, Tasuki-chan. You’re still new to this, aren’t you? I’m really going to enjoy this.
Unless, of course, you’ve changed your mind about talking to me?”
His bond with Tamahome pulsed, and Tasuki realized with a
sick feeling that he’d lost control of his shields at some point, and Tamahome
might already know what he had done. He
shouldn’t have enjoyed what Nakago did.
Tamahome deserved better than him.
Despair overwhelmed him.
Pure and absolute rage swelled through from Tamahome. ::He’s breaking you Tas, I can feel
it! Let me stop him!::
::It’s too late; we’re outta time. I’m sorry… I couldn’t stop him… He’s gonna…
I don’t want ya goin’ through this too…:: “Just do it, asshole,” Tasuki answered Nakago quietly while
trying to close Tamahome out of his mind.
He was surprised when Tamahome fought him tooth and nail to stay
connected to him.
Nakago smiled, folding Tasuki’s legs up against his chest,
exposing him completely. “I was hoping
you’d say that.” He released his stiff
member from its confinement and slicked himself with the last of Tasuki’s come
before pressing himself to Tasuki’s entrance.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure the pain doesn’t last long.”
::Dammit Tas, stop protecting me and let me help
you! Let me in, NOW!::
There was no room in Tamahome’s mental voice for
argument. He relaxed his hold on the
bond, and in an instant he felt Tamahome force it wide open. Pure Power flooded him, and he
shivered as his body struggled to adjust to the sudden influx. Tasuki had no idea how to channel it out,
so the energy just kept reverberating and growing in strength inside him,
burning him alive.
Just when he knew his system couldn’t take anymore, he felt
Tamahome yank him backward in his own mind, taking over. His ‘oni’ mark blazed to life on Tasuki’s
forehead, and confusion caused Nakago’s power to waver for a moment. It was all Tamahome needed. He lunged forward and wrapped his/Tasuki’s
hands around Nakago’s throat.
“I’m not losing anyone else I love to you, Nakago!”
Nakago tore at the hands around his throat with both his
body and his powers, but they wouldn’t budge.
“Tamahome?” he gasped, his eyes betraying his disbelief. “This isn’t possible!”
“You shouldn’t play around with things you can’t possibly understand,”
Tamahome spat. He channeled all that
accumulated Power and let it explode out his hands and directly into
Nakago’s body. There was no way to
block or disperse that much raw energy.
The world whited out for a moment before Nakago began to slide
into darkness. But it didn’t
matter. Others would take over where he
left off and he would be avenged on the gods-forsaken country of his
birth.
After all, he’d trained his tools well. They would see it done.
He only wished he could’ve been there to watch the life fade
from the pig emperor’s eyes as he died…
******************************************************************************
From his place somewhere deep in his own mind, Tasuki
floated, able to see what was happening, but unable to do anything about
it. He watched in amazement as Tamahome
took Nakago completely by surprise, firing enough deadly energy into him to fry
him from the inside out in a matter of seconds. He knew Tamahome was a badass, but…
…Damn. That was just
fucking incredible.
******************************************************************************
Yui could sense that something was wrong. It felt like the world lurched, and part of
the ground fell away under her feet. It
was the same sinking feeling she had when Suboshi died, only much stronger.
She had been searching for Nakago when it hit her. An instant later, an explosion went off
somewhere near the cells. It was a
coincidence she couldn’t ignore, and she took off running. When she arrived, there were two very
agitated soldiers guarding the area.
“What was that noise?” Yui demanded of one of the
soldiers. He just stared at her,
confused.
“I don’t know.
General Nakago is interrogating one of the Suzaku seishi. We have orders not to interfere, no matter what.”
“Well, I don’t have any such orders. Move aside.”
When the soldier stepped aside, she began looking for an
occupied cell. Recognizing Tasuki’s fan
and clothes hanging outside one of the cells, she burst inside. The sight that greeted her was one out of
her worst nightmare.
Nakago’s charred body lay lifeless on the cold floor.
“No,” she muttered.
“This is some bad joke, right?”
Yui stumbled over to Nakago’s body and fell to her knees
beside it. Tears began to flow
unnoticed down her face. “You said you
loved me. That you wouldn’t leave me!”
Of course, there was no response.
“Liar,” she whispered.
******************************************************************************
Once he was sure the bastard was dead, Tamahome threw the
wasted body as far away from him as he could and fell backward, reeling from
the pain and exhaustion tearing through Tasuki’s body.
He immediately shot down into the bond, searching. He called out for that normally bright,
steadily pulsing spark that was Tasuki, and it answered him. He found it deep in the darkness, its light
dimmed and flickering erratically.
Wherever this place was, it was dark and cool and the pain didn’t follow
him. He reached out for Tasuki eagerly,
but he was only hesitantly accepted at first.
Tasuki had feared this moment, but touching Tamahome’s mind,
he realized that his secret was safe, at least for now. Tamahome hadn’t seen what had happened with
Nakago. It was good. Tasuki couldn’t flat out lie to him mind to
mind, but he could keep things hidden.
The longer he could hide it, the better; Tamahome would certainly leave
as soon as he found out.
Safe if only for the moment, Tasuki relaxed a little. Immediately the cool blue ribbon of
Tamahome’s presence enfolded him, strong and soothing around him. Tasuki leaned into him, completely exhausted
and very much in need of that strength and love while he still had it.
Insistent. ::Are
you okay?::
::Yeah. No. I dunno.
Tired. Body’s busted up an’
everythin’ hurts bad. Can’t think
either, too damned hard. Wanna stay
here an’ rest.::
::I know, but you’ve got to go back to your body and get
out of that temple. You’re not safe
yet.::
::Breathin’ hurts bad ‘nough without tryin’ ta move. Do I hafta?::
::Do you want to switch with me? I think I can take you over again and get
you out of there–::
::No! I
mean… It’s okay. I c’n do it.::
::Once you’re back, I’ll let you sleep for as long as you
want. I won’t even complain about
having to be your mattress.::
::…Don’t know if I should…::
::Tas, I know something really bad happened to you in
there, and I don’t care what it was.
Whatever that bastard did to you doesn’t change how much I love
you. I can prove it to you. But only if you come back to me. Right.
Now.::
::……::
Demand! ::Promise
me!::
::…Okay, just…
I’m comin’.::
Shaking with relief, Tamahome came back to his own
body. It was a strange feeling. He’d only been in Tasuki’s body for a matter
of seconds, but he still had to re-accustom himself to his own form. He found himself on his knees with
Mitsukake, Nuriko and Chichiri standing around him looking anxious.
“Are you going to tell us what’s going on, or what?” Nuriko
demanded.
“Tasuki’s alive.
Totally out of it and burned-out, but alive. He managed to take out another one of the Seiryuu seishi before
Nakago showed up. I got him to run for
it. He’s hurt, badly. I don’t know how much longer he can stay on
his feet, but he’s got to be out of there by the time Soi and Tomo figure out
what’s going on.”
“What about Nakago?”
Tamahome looked up at Nuriko grimly. “Cooked.”
There was no mistaking the satisfaction in Tamahome’s voice
or in Nuriko’s eyes.
“Can Tasuki make it this far down the hill, no da?”
Tamahome shook his head.
“Not a chance.”
“Then we need to meet him halfway. Can you move?” Mitsukake
asked. Tamahome nodded, a little dizzy,
but unwilling to let that stop him.
“Then we need to get going.”
Tamahome stumbled a bit getting up, so Nuriko wrapped an arm
around his waist to help him walk. “If
you fall off your horse and break your head open, Tasuki will never shut up
about it. You’re riding with me.”
******************************************************************************
Tasuki lay still, back in control of his body and trying to
remember just how the damned thing was supposed to work. The pain it was radiating was almost past
bearing, even for him. All he really
wanted to do was just lay there and go to sleep for a few weeks, but he
promised Tamahome he’d come back. With
Tamahome wrapped around him, he could almost believe Tamahome wouldn’t blame
him for what happened. But now, alone
once more at the scene of the crime, he wasn’t so sure anymore…
But a promise was a promise.
He opened his eyes, blinking blearily up at the ceiling
above him. When it finally came into
focus, he tested his exhausted limbs, finding that Tamahome had left him with
some energy. It still hurt like hell to
move, but at least he could do it. He
rolled his head sideways to take in Nakago’s still smoldering form. ‘Serves ya right, fucker,’ he thought before
peeling himself up off the floor of the cell.
He crawled over to where Nakago had tossed his pants and
struggled into them. Then, he saw the
girl crying next to Nakago’s body. He
would have just ignored her and left, but she seemed… lost. And he could remember that it was important
to get her out of here, although he couldn’t remember why.
“Yui, right?” he asked.
She nodded slowly, never taking her eyes off Nakago’s
body. “Why? Why did you have to take him from me? He was the only one who cared…”
Tasuki rolled his eyes and dragged himself unsteadily to his feet. “Man, what is it with you girls?” he
muttered. Then louder, “Look, I’m too
tired fer this. I'm gettin’ outta
here. Ya got no reason to stay here
anymore, right? So come wit’ me.”
“Nakago was the only one who cared, and now he’s gone…” Yui
whimpered brokenly.
Tasuki was quickly running out of patience, but he still
felt obligated to help her. He decided
to give it one more shot. “That’s the dumbest
thing I ever heard. All Miaka ever
talks ‘bout is ‘Yui-chan’ this an’ ‘Yui-chan’ that. She wouldn’t do that if she didn’t care. So come on.
It’ll be quicker if I carry ya.
Ya’ll need ta talk b’fore we summon Suzaku anyway.” If she came with, great. If not, too bad. He was late for a long nap with a nice, warm, perverted pillow.
“Miaka never gave up on me…” Mechanically, Yui got up and followed his instructions. Tasuki hissed as her slight form settled
against his injured body and broken ribs grated painfully. “So I guess this means she wins. Miaka gets her wishes, and she gets
Tamahome.”
Tasuki snorted. “Not
fuckin’ likely. Now hang on, we’re
gonna go fast.”
He paused only long enough to pick up his tessen on the way
out of the cell. Then he blew past the
guards and out of the area, heading straight for the exit. They were almost there…
Lightning exploded through the building’s high ceiling and
arced down behind him, missing him only because his momentum carried him out of
the way. He turned to see where the
attack came from and saw Soi and Tomo on one of the upper levels of the
building. Tasuki braced himself for
another attack, but it never came. The
two remaining Seiryuu seishi looked down at him, indecision plain on their
faces for a moment before they both turned and ran down the hallway.
Tasuki stared at their retreating backs, puzzled. “Huh.
Tha’s weird. How come they
didn’t jus’ kill me? It’d be easy right
now. She afraid ‘a hittin’ you on
accident?”
“No. They don’t care
about me or Seiryuu’s wishes. They only
care about Nakago,” Yui said quietly.
“They must know something happened to him. When they find out what you did, they’ll kill you.”
If Tasuki hadn’t been so exhausted, he might have heard some
small satisfaction in her voice. As it
was, he only grimaced and gathered the last of his strength to get the hell out
of there. “I don’ care what they do ta
me, ’s long as they do it after I get my nap,” Tasuki mumbled before continuing
out of the temple.
He ran as fast as he could manage, but each step became
harder and harder to take. Finally, it
was too much. He stumbled and a new
pain shot through his sides and chest.
He skidded to a halt and somehow managed to set Yui down before falling
to his knees and pitching forward onto all fours. He began to cough convulsively, expelling blood with every
fit. He couldn’t get enough air in, and
it hurt, gods, but it hurt. The world
swam in darkness, and it wasn’t fair.
There was something he had to do, someone he had promised to see… He couldn’t die yet!
Eventually his overtaxed, torn muscles refused to even
support his own weight anymore. He fell
forward, and wondered hazily why he didn’t hit the ground.
Something soft caught him and reeled him in. It was tender and safe and loving, and he
tucked into it instinctively. This is
who he was trying to get back to. Warm
wetness plinked down on his face. Was
someone crying? Why? Didn’t they know things would be okay now?
He could hear snatches of conversation around him in
familiar voices, but only one of them was really important. He was a little curious about what the
others were saying, but he couldn’t breathe and he was hurting too badly to
really understand what was going on.
“…nerves are burned raw, broken… punctured lungs… so much
damage… can’t heal all at once…”
“…carried Yui all the way…”
“…how… manage to get here?”
“…what…bastard do to…”
“Worry about that later.
He can’t breathe and he’s slipping away from me! You’ve got to help him now!”
“…know where to start now…”
Cool energy poured into him, soothing his raw nerves and
aching body, and easing the sharp stabbing and pressure in his side enough for
him to start breathing again. He moaned
with relief.
When he was able to open his eyes again, the world came
slowly into focus. People he knew and
loved kneeled around him, concern marring their features. “Where’d… you guys… come from…?” he asked,
still finding it difficult to concentrate.
Sparkling gray eyes came into focus above him. Tamahome choked on a sob and pulled him
impossibly closer. “When this is all
over, I’m locking you away in a room only I have a key to so you can never get
hurt again.”
“Shouldn’t be touchin’ me,” he mumbled. “’M all… dirty now. ’M sorry, Tama. ’M so sorry…”
Nuriko’s fists clenched hard while Mitsukake and Chichiri
looked like they’d been kicked in the gut.
“What did fucking Nakago do to him?” Nuriko swore under his breath.
Tamahome bit back a curse, wishing he could kill Nakago all
over again. Instead, he cupped Tasuki’s
face and turned him so he could look into those amber eyes. ::There’s nothing dirty about you, love.:: He pressed a brief, gentle kiss to the full
lips, anger stirring again as he tasted blood and tears.
Tasuki relaxed. This
was where he was supposed to be. As
much as he wanted to just fall into Tamahome and rest, he couldn’t. There was something he was forgetting,
something he was supposed to tell them.
It was important… “Oh yeah. Yui says… Soi an’ Tomo’re gonna come after
me, think I killed Nakago. We should…
split up or… somethin’.”
His weary attempt to rise didn’t get him very far. It was immediately curtailed by four pairs
of hands.
“Not going to happen,” Mitsukake objected. “You are going to rest. Honestly, I don’t see how you’re still
conscious right now!”
“Damn straight.
Leave a little work for us, will ya?” Nuriko chimed in, smiling at him
gently.
Chichiri’s hand fell to his head and tenderly ruffled his
hair. “You’ve done so well. It’s time to rest now.”
“But…”
::No buts. I can
feel how hard you’re trying to hold on, but it’s time to let go. I promised you could take a nap on me,
didn’t I? Go to sleep. I’ll be here with you.::
It was an offer Tasuki couldn’t have refused for all the
world. With his friends around him and
his lover holding him tight, Tasuki finally allowed himself to rest.

Chapter warnings: Pretty major character death. Watase-sama’s favorite bites the dust.
Oh, come now. You
didn’t really think I was gonna let Nakago live after that, did you? Hmmm…
I wonder what Tamahome’s power level is. Anybody got a scouter?
^_^
Next time: Soi and Tomo are pissed, Tasuki’s down for the
count, and Chiriko *gasp* Does Something!!!
To tasukigirl78: Hope that was a satisfactory ass kicking
for Nakago. Frying. Whatever.
He sure as hell earned it!! ^_^
To Yahnkehy: Don’t
kill me! Tamahome will fix him, I
swear!
