The next day Kana and Tasuki disappeared and didn’t come back until the first signs of twilight. Stumbling down the corridor they spotted Hotohori, Mitsukake and Chiriko talking.
“Hi ya guys how are ya?” Kana questioned leaning up against the banister.
“Kana, Tasuki where have you been? We’ve been looking for you all day.” Hotohori whispered looking the two over suspiciously. They had their arms around each others waists and seemed too close for his comfort.
“Well earlier this morning Kana was depressed and decided she was going to a couple of bars so I went to keep her company and she kind of went a little off the deep end.” Tasuki stammered as Kana teetered with pink cheeks.
“You mean to tell me she’s drunk?” Hotohori gasped.
“As a skunk.” Tasuki chuckled before Hotohori grabbed him by the collar.
“If you did anything to her I swear…” He growled as Tasuki looked at him frightened before Kana put her hands on his wrists.
“Calm down Hotohori, practice peace not hate.” Hotohori looked at her out of the corner of his eyes before letting Tasuki go. “Anyways I’m not even drunk just needed to have a little fun.” Her tone went straight and she stood with perfect posture. “Maybe I should have taken you drinking Hotohori you seem like you need to loosen up more than Tasuk here.” She nodded at Tasuki as Hotohori looked at her miffed.
“You mean you were just acting.” Hotohori sighed.
“Yeah just to see your reaction which I have to admit was pretty funny.” She chuckled to herself before Chiriko joined her.
“I have to hand it to her it was pretty funny your highness.” He chuckled to himself before Hotohori gave him a death glare out of the corner of his eye but that just made Chiriko laugh harder.
“Kana can I talk to you for a moment?” Hotohori whispered.
“Talk or yell?” Kana questioned raising an eyebrow.
“Talk.”
“Sure than, lead the way.” Kana nodded down the hallway before following Hotohori into one of his offices. Closing the door he looked at her with a straight face.
“Are you trying to humiliate me or was that just a side act?” He questioned with an upset tone. The smile that was plastered on Kana’s face melted.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to humiliate you but you gotta hand it to me it was pretty funny.” Her smile returned before Hotohori turned his back on her and looked out the window with his hands behind his back.
“I don’t know what to do about you.” He sighed to himself.
“What do you mean do about me?” Kana questioned raising an eyebrow.
“Tell me do you try intentionally to make things harder? Are you trying to make me not care about you or just make me have an early heart-attack?” He questioned with an exasperated and worried sigh.
“No it’s not that but I… we…” Kana stuttered searching for the right words to say to him at that moment. “Hotohori I don’t want to make things tough between us.” She sighed finally.
“Here’s a better question, do you want there to be an us?” he turned and looked at her before she gasped in shock but quickly changed the look on her face. “Do you? Kana please I have to know if you care about me or not.” He whispered.
“You know I do but…” She trailed off.
“Than what but is there? Forget the buts.” He whispered throwing his arm out horizontally.
“You know what you’re right I’ll forget the buts.” She smiled and nodded.
“Really?” He choked.
“Yeah because I do care.” She whispered before running to him but mid run she disappeared in a white light before her necklace clattered to the ground. Hotohori looked around surprised before sighing heavily and picking up her necklace.
“She went back.” He whispered saddened.

Keisuke sat in the National Library reading The Universe of the Four Gods before a white light started glowing. The next thing Keisuke or Kana knew she was lying on top of him and they were in a lip-lock. Kana looked at him wide-eyed before rolling off him and sitting on the floor next to him.
“Well it’s nice to see you too.” Keisuke whispered sitting up.
“Oh, ah… hi, exactly how much of that did you read?” Kana stuttered.
“I know that was intended for Hotohori so don’t fret I won’t see anything into it.” He whispered reclaiming his seat on the ladder and pulling the book into his lap.
“Thanks, what time is it?” “Kana questioned standing and dusting herself off.
“Ten twenty-eight.”
“Okay, thanks Keisuke.” She gave a two finger wave before leaving the reference room and the library.
“Yeah no problem.” Keisuke sighed to himself before shaking his head and reverting back to his reading.

Kana knocked on Dani’s door loudly for a couple of minutes before he opened it up in only his boxer shorts.
“Who the hell wants wha… Kana.” He gasped once he realized who was standing in front of him. “Your back, wait a minute… where the hell did you go?” He demanded before she brushed by him and sat on the couch. Dani sat down next to her and looked at her suspiciously.
“I went back into The Universe of the Four Gods. At the moment Keisuke is reading it in the reference room in the National Library. Miaka is still there and I doubt I’ll be here for very long.”
“Wait are you going back to that whole you got sucked into a book idea? Kana that’s ridiculous you can’t get sucked into a book.” Dani shook his head as Kana rolled her eyes.
“Alright than how do you explain my disappearing earlier? Why the cut just appeared on my arm and why my knuckles were screwed up?” She listed as Dani’s eyes retreated into the back of his head.
“Easy you change your outfit and those other things were just coincidences.” He shrugged.
“Uh, fine, you know how I told you I have a wiccan herracy?”
“Yeah. So what.”
“Well now my powers are stronger, go to the window.” Dani rolled his eyes but got up and went to the window. “What kind of weather is it?”
“Sunny and clear skies, why?”
“Okay just watch the sky.” She whispered before closing her eyes and focusing on the weather. Dani watched as dark black clouds rolled in before the rain began pouring down in sheets and lightening flashed across the sky. Turning he looked at Kana wide-eyed.
“You can control weather?” He choked.
“And more.” She smiled as he walked back over and sat next to her.
“So you’re a witch?”
“Yeah, always have been.”
“How exactly does Miaka play into this again?”
“She’s the Suzaku no miko.” The last word rolled off of Kana’s tongue before the white light consumed her again. “Great, well that’s the signal I’m gone, find Keisuke.” She whispered before she was gone.
********
Kana fell on her ass in some dry sand, looking around she saw Nuriko and Miaka in front of her. Nuriko seemed frozen in time staring into the small house in front of them; Miaka had her hands on his shoulders.
“Yuiren! Yuir… Yuiren!” Tamahome’s voice came from inside of the house and Kana realized what was happening. Nuriko and Miaka gasped at the same time before Miaka slid down and was kneeling in front of him.
“How could they? And who… who could do such a thing?” Miaka whispered as Nuriko closed his eyes. Kana looked up along the wall before spotting who she was looking for just before he started playing the flute in his hand.
“Flute?” Nuriko whispered looking up at the cloaked figure.
“That sound, and that song.” Miaka whispered standing up and looking at the young man perched on the wall above them. “Amiboshi.” She whispered out of realization.
“It’s you, but you can’t be alive.” Nuriko gasped.
“That blood, you did this? You’re the one responsible for… for this massacre?” Miaka yelled before the young man stopped playing his flute and smirked down at the three.
“That’s right I killed them, this is my rightful revenge on you for murdering my brother!” He yelled before throwing off his cape.
“Miaka be careful this guy isn’t Amiboshi.” Nuriko stated standing in front of Miaka. Kana got up and stood in front of him.
“You’re right I am Suboshi of the Seiryu seven, Amiboshi was my twin brother and you killed him. Murderers!” Suboshi yelled.
“Listen, you’ve got it all wrong, we didn’t kill Amiboshi it was an accident.” Nuriko stuttered.
“Nuriko take Miaka and run.” Kana whispered over her shoulder but Nuriko just looked at her confused.
“Enough of your pathetic excuses, it’s time for you to-to die!” Suboshi yelled before he threw two balls on opposite ends of a cord, each ball spun which when they connected felt like razors, these are called ryuuseisui. Nuriko and Miaka got off to the side but one of the two balls left a deep cut in Kana’s leg before they hit the side of a tree and it crashed through Tamahome’s house.
“Are you dually impressed by the power of my weapons?” Suboshi questioned as the ryuuseisui spun in front of him.
“So that’s what did it, you used that on my father and family, and ripped them all apart!” Tamahome yelled the last part as the ogre symbol on his forehead began glowing vibrantly.
“Ryuuseisui!” Suboshi yelled before attacking Tamahome. Tamahome crossed his arms in front of his face and took the abuse one of the balls flew by and chopped off his ponytail before the attack stopped.
“So that’s it? That’s all the power you’ve got?” Tamahome spat before the symbol on his forehead changed and he was engrossed in a pink glow. Tamahome lunged at Suboshi and began kicking his ass taking all his emotions out on him in anger.
“So she did, Taiitsukun did give Tamahome more warrior power, he’s much stronger than he was before but all for this.” Nuriko whispered as him and Miaka sat off in the sidelines. Tamahome picked Suboshi up by his throat and slammed him against a stonewall while unknowingly another cloaked figure appeared on the rooftop behind him.
“For what you’ve done here I will never forgive you, now die!” Tamahome yelled before a large bolt of lightening crashed down making him let go of Suboshi. The blue energy crackled around them before a woman’s voice rang through the air.
“A difficult lesson, but that’s what you get for acting like an amateur Suboshi.” A woman in a cloak stood on the rooftop to one of the building holding an unconscious Suboshi in her arms.
“Another Seiryu intruder?” Tamahome gritted through his teeth.
“A celestial warrior of Seiryu, Soi, for now I’ve only come to introduce myself. Tamahome you seem to have gotten a bit stronger, is that only because your family has been killed?” Soi chuckled before Tamahomes eyes got wide and he went to lunge at her but Nuriko grabbed him around the waist. “You better save some of that strength for the next time we meet.” Soi noted before disappearing in another flash of lightening. Tamahome continued to struggle in Nuriko’s grasp.
“Let me go!!” Tamahome yelled trying to rip at the air where Soi had just been standing.
“Tamahome your body can’t handle much more of this, it’s not what you are. Sou, Kishuku you have been chosen by Suzaku, one of the celestial warriors Miaka depends on. Tamahome of the Suzaku seven, please Tama. Can’t you see its hurting Miaka to see you like this?” Nuriko began to cry as Tamahome calmed down and looked over to Miaka who was sitting up against a tree shaking and crying while looking at him in fear.
“Miaka, Nuriko it’s okay I-I understand now.” Tamahome whispered before taking Nuriko’s hand off of his waist and walking back to his house. Nuriko fell to his knees on the ground before Kana limped over and knelt next to him. Putting an arm around his shoulders he turned and cried in her arms. When Nuriko had collected himself they turned and saw Miaka had passed out.
“Miaka.” Nuriko whispered getting up and putting a cold clothe on Miaka’s forehead. Kana got up and limped over to a large oak tree and leaned up against it.
”This is all my fault, I know it. It’s all my fault I could have stopped it and I didn’t.” She whispered to herself before taking her anger out on the tree before collapsing in front of it and crying. A little while later Miaka woke up.
“Miaka are you ok now?” Nuriko questioned as Miaka sat up.
“Nuriko, where’s Tamahome?” Miaka asked worriedly.
“He’s-he’s burying his father and family. How could this happen and just as we’re about to set out for Hokkan? And what about the villagers around here? Didn’t anyone notice the attack?” Nuriko questioned looking around at the peaceful town.
“Even if they did they didn’t come, they couldn’t they’re just normal people out here. They couldn’t do anything except run away and save themselves.” Miaka whispered before Kana came wandering over.
“Hey where have you been?” Nuriko questioned looking at the girl with a saddened gaze.
“Nowhere, just handling things in my own way.” Kana whispered leaning against the tree before Miaka got up and walked off in search of Tamahome.
“Come on lets set up camp for the night okay?” Kana whispered rhetorically before the two began to set up a fire. The two heard footsteps running towards them and looked in the direction they were coming from before Miaka ran into Kana’s arms and began crying. Kana looked down at her surprised but set her hands on her shoulders. Later that night Nuriko and Miaka had bedded down next to a roaring fire while Kana sat up against a tree close by.
“Hey Miaka, do you think maybe Tamahome shouldn’t come along with us on this trip? I mean in his condition.” Nuriko whispered.
“Maybe not.” Miaka sighed still grieving over the loss of his family, her family.
“We’ll head back tomorrow, just the three of us.” Nuriko sighed before looking up at Kana. “Aren’t you going to get any sleep?” He questioned with an eyebrow raised.
“No, I wouldn’t be able to sleep even if I wanted to, not after today.” Kana shook her head and sighed heavily. “Anyways the enemy could still be out there I’ll keep watch for the night go ahead and get some sleep.” She whispered before Nuriko rolled over.
“Alright but if you do get tired…”
“I won’t Nuriko.” Kana cut him off before silence fell and the crickets dusted off their violins and attempted to calm the unnerved with their songs of sadness.

The next morning Tamahome emerged from the bushes with a huge grin plastered on his face.
“Aren’t you guys up yet, come on remember we set out for Hokkan today.”
“Tamahome.” Miaka gasped a little startled to see him so upbeat already.
“We were gonna leave without you, are you sure you’re okay?” Nuriko questioned looking at him skeptically.
“Yeah I’m fine.” He gave an all to decipherable grin before they packed up and headed off to the ship Hotohori was providing for their journey to Hokkan.
********
“It is beyond comprehension, those poor children.” Hotohori whispered after Miaka had explained the unfortunate death of Tamahome’s family. From up on the deck Miaka, Hotohori and Chichiri heard Tasuki yelling to Tamahome.
“Hey Tamahome-boy you look exhausted what’s the matter been having a little too much fun?” He joked before Tamahome picked him up over his head and teetered with him over the water. “No, no put me down I take it back I take it back don’t throw me in the water no!” He cried in a panic.
“Leave them be for now.” Hotohori whispered watching Tasuki teeter.
“I’ll tell Tasuki about it later no da. I think Tamahome likes his reckless cheerfulness no da.” Chichiri whispered also watching the action up on deck.
“Hotohori, please be careful Hotohori we don’t know when the enemy will strike next.” Miaka whispered solemnly with her eyes closed.
“Do not worry about me Miaka you must all stay alert and on guard.” Hotohori reassured her before her attitude changed completely.
“I’ll be fine I’ve finally decided to fight.” She smiled with sparkling eyes that hid secret heartache behind them.
“Miaka.” Hotohori gasped before holding up his holy sword the Taiitsukun had given to him. “Take this sword with you Miaka.”
“But that’s the sword Taiitsukun gave you.” Miaka gasped as Hotohori smiled at her.
“I cannot go along with you on this quest so I am committing my strength into this sword and intrusting it to you. If anything should go wrong use this sword to protect yourself.” He explained before Miaka took the sword from him.
“Thank you Hotohori I promise to take good care of it.” Miaka promised before boarding the ship.
“So does that stay alert warning only count for the Suzaku seishi or can I count it too?” Kana questioned leaning on Hotohori’s shoulder. Hotohori turned and looked at her surprised.
“When did you get back?” He questioned looking at her in awe.
“Right after Tamahome walked into his house.” She whispered as her tone changed from one of happiness to one of sorrow and guilt.
“There was nothing you could do about it.” Hotohori whispered in an attempt to ease her. Kana just looked up at him and he could see in her eyes that something was different, usually they sparkled a glassy purple with mischief and sarcasm but now they were dull and lifeless as if when Tamahome’s family was killed so was her spirit. “Kana, you know that don’t you?” He put one hand on her shoulder and the other under her chin so he could keep eye contact with her.
“I’m- I’m going with Miaka, I want to help her.” Kana stuttered shaking her head and reverting her gaze to the ground.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, remember I promised to help protect her and aid in the discovery of the others, I failed at that so I can’t fail at this. Anyways maybe some sea air’ll do me some good.” She gave a fake smile but Hotohori could see right through it just like the vastness in her eyes, her happiness was vivid.
“Alright but please be careful.” He whispered brushing her cheek with his fingertips. “I’ll miss you.”
“Yeah I know.” She rolled her eyes and gave him another fake smile.
“Hey Kana you comin’ no da?” Chichiri yelled over the edge of the deck on board.
“Yeah I’ll be there in a sec!” She called back before looking up to Hotohori, swiftly she kissed him before walking to the ship but stopping halfway and turning to look at him. “Be safe Hotohori.” She gave a two finger wave before turning on her heal and boarding the boat. Hotohori stood on the dock and watched as the boat set sail. Kana moved to the opposite end of the boat, from where the rest of the group was standing and waving goodbye, and sat on the dock that stood out over the ocean without any guardrails. Chichiri was leaning against the railing about twenty feet behind Kana watching her confused before Nuriko came up next to him.
“She blames herself.” He whispered before Chichiri looked at him confused.
“What do you mean no da?”
“Think about it Chichiri she knows everything that’s going to happen so she can prevent anything she wants from happening except her future. Remember she told us she saw this whole series on the TV, whatever that is, she knew this was going to happen and she couldn’t do anything to prevent it so she feels responsible.” Nuriko sighed as Chichiri continued to watch the girl. Her shoulders rose in a slow depressed breath before she let it out slowly as if she were trying to calm her nerves, which at that moment she was.
“But there was nothing she could do about that can’t she see that no da?” Chichiri whispered.
“Maybe it would help her if you said that to her and not me.” Nuriko stated before Chichiri looked at him. “Go, go.” Nuriko ushered him towards her.
“Ka-Kana are you okay?” Chichiri whispered as not to scare her. Kana ran a hand over her face before looking up at him.
“Yeah, I guess.” Kana sighed before looking back out at the ocean. Chichiri sat down next to her and looked out at the ocean with her, they sat there in silence before Kana finally spoke. “I just feel like all of this is my fault, I could have prevented this from happening but I didn’t of all the times to keep my mouth shut I pick now.” She shook her head before pulling one knee to her chest and setting her chin on it.
“Kana it wasn’t your fault things are already written out as to how they’re suppose to happen.”
“Yeah but it’s not etched in stone Chichiri so I could have prevented it and I know once Tamahome realizes I knew he’ll never forgive me for letting them die.”
“What do you mean? Tamahome won’t see things like that, you weren’t even in this world when it happened.” He shook his head.
“But I could have said something to him or Hotohori, he could have sent guards out there to stop Suboshi anything could have happened.” She gave an exasperated sigh.
“Yeah like Suboshi could have gone and killed somebody else’s family who wouldn’t have the support of his friends and the one he loves there to help him through it which depending on the person could have resulted in suicide.” Chichiri estimated as Kana looked at him out of the corner of her eye.
“You know you’re not very good at this cheering up your friend stuff.” She huffed in a sarcastic tone.
“Well you gotta give me credit for trying.” He shrugged before putting his hand on her back and running it up and down from the small of her back to her neck and back. “Can you just believe that it wasn’t your fault?”
“I know it wasn’t but I still can’t help having a guilty conscious that keeps screaming you killed them you’re a murderer.” She leaned up against his shoulder.
“Kana do you know about my past?” Chichiri questioned with a sigh.
“Kind of but I don’t really remember, why?”
“Well would you like to hear it from the source?” He questioned before Kana looked up at him wide-eyed. She knew how much it hurt him to tell people about what had happened but the details were kind of fuzzy to her and she wanted to hear what had really happened not what was posted on the internet.
“Only if it won’t hurt you.” She whispered finally, Chichiri looked down at her with a smile before shaking his head no. “Than feel free.” She sighed quietly leaning her head back on his shoulder.
“Hiko… Hiko had been my best friend since we were little kids; I loved him like a brother because to me that’s what he was. We were kind of troublemakers always getting into mischief and making something out of nothing. But we never fought until Korran came along, she was beautiful and graceful, perfect in every aspect at least I thought so and soon I found Hiko felt the same about her. When Korran told me she could no longer be with me I didn’t know what to think, so many things were running through me, fear, jealousy, humiliation and then I heard her say Hiko immediately all those emotions turned to anger and I found myself with a deep feeling of hate towards my best friend. After taking my accusations out on Korran and believing them true from her tears I went after Hiko. The next thing I knew we were fighting not verbally but physically. The rain began to fall around us causing the river to rise, Hiko slipped and I grabbed his wrist, the raging water below him seemed to get higher, a tree came out of nowhere and hit me in the eye. The sudden excruciating pain causing a reflexive action I guess and I released his hand. With one hand over my eye I realized Hiko had fallen in, I saw his body lifeless in the water, the current carrying him any way it pleased. After that things were hazy I remember the big flood that took my family and Korran. After that I left and joined up with Taiitsukun to learn about my role as a member of the Suzaku seishi for years I couldn’t except they were gone, I guess I still can’t and this scar is what reminds me of it every day, how foolish I was back then.” Chichiri explained before Kana looked up at him and noticed he was no longer wearing his mask and watched as a tear slid off of the opposite side of his face.
“Chichiri it wasn’t your fault, there was nothing you could do about that tree and like you said it was a reflex so it wasn’t your fault.” Kana whispered putting a hand on his cheek and turning his face so he looked at her, another tear escaped the brim of his eyes and she brushed it away with her thumb.
“But if I would have just held on and ignored the pain I felt he might still be alive and than…”
“Than you would have been killed by that flood too, than where would we be now huh? Miaka wouldn’t be able to call forth Suzaku without a seventh seishi and I wouldn’t have this wonderful friend who I believe is perfect just the way he is. Whether you know it or not a lot of us depend on you, isn’t that right Tasuki and Nuriko!” Kana yelled over her shoulder before Tasuki and Nuriko slowly rose from where they were hiding behind a couple of barrels with “I’m innocent” grins plastered on their faces.
“Uh, heh you see we were just walking by and tripped.” Nuriko stuttered.
“Yeah we tripped.” Tasuki piped in.
“Right behind those barrels in perfect earshot of our conversation, and imagine the two of you tripped at exactly the same time what a coincidence.” Kana muttered giving them death glares.
“Yeah coincidence imagine that but I better be going I think I hear Chiriko calling me.” Nuriko pointed over his shoulder while backing up slowly before turning and running.
“I’m just gonna, heh… Chichiri bail me out man.” Tasuki whimpered realizing Nuriko had left him by himself to take the blame.
“I’ll give you to the count of ten to run.” Chichiri mocked before Tasuki turned and ran as fast as he could inside. Kana and Chichiri both shook their heads before Chichiri laughed lightly. “Those two are hopeless.” He chuckled to himself.
“You see I was right.” Kana stated with a sigh.
“About what?”
“We all depend on you and one another, the eight of us are like all a separate link when combined make a huge circle that depends on trust and friendship well in some cases love more than that but if one of us weren’t here the circle wouldn’t be round therefore it wouldn’t function correctly.” Kana explained as Chichiri smiled at her.
“You talk like you had to give this speech before.”
“I have to myself.” Kana sighed standing up and looking out over the sea towards the west, the sun was setting casting an illuminating golden glow over the water, for a moment everything seemed perfect.
“What do you mean?” He questioned.
“Nothing.” She shook her head and he shrugged off what she had said.
“Well this is ironic when you think about it.” Chichiri whispered joining her on his feet.
”What is?”
“I came over here to cheer you up and you ended up supporting me.”
“What else are friends for? Anyways what you told me, just knowing you can trust me helps beyond anything you could say.” She whispered before the two began to strike up another conversation.
