Messenger
When he came in to work the next day K was informed that Bad Luck’s spot on a television special had been revoked. Instead, Nittle Grasper would be playing. He narrowed his eyes, sending the poor messenger scurrying away, afraid for her life. He’d known that there would be repercussions to his game, but he hadn’t thought the president would stoop so low as to take his anger out on the band. He wouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet, however. The first course of action would be to talk to Ryuichi when he arrived. It was entirely possible that the singer had been behind it, not the keyboardist. Given recent events, however, K really doubted it.
He waited in the lobby for Nittle Grasper’s vocalist to arrive. Ryuichi saw him immediately after entering the lobby, bouncing over to greet him.
“Ohayo, K!”
“Ryuichi.”
The singer became solemn, focusing on K when he was beckoned into a nearby, thankfully empty, studio. “Why so serious, K?”
“What do you have planned for this morning?”
“Nothing, so far as I know. Why?”
“Nittle Grasper got scheduled to take over Bad Luck’s spot again.” K watched Ryuichi carefully.
“And you want to know if I asked Tohma for a favor as President again.”
“I was hoping…” He could see Ryuichi was too puzzled to have been the cause. He could have been acting, but there would be no purpose in lying to the manager at this point.
The singer scowled, but the image was ruined as he began to chew on Kumagoro’s ear in his bemusement. “K, what’s going on?”
“The president has decided to steal Bad Luck’s spot, obviously.” K knew the brunet wasn’t as innocent as he seemed, but he still wasn’t sure how much to reveal to the vocalist—he would have no qualms about telling his friend anything he thought he should know. But then again, maybe the American could use that to his advantage. If he told the singer he was pursuing Tohma, it might very well help him. The brunet would either decide he was for the act, in which case K would have an ally, or he would decide he was against it and tell the younger blond which could also aid the manager—if it came from Ryuichi, the keyboardist would believe it. Either way, it could help.
“No, K, what’s really going on? Why did Tohma do this? It can’t be because of something Bad Luck did, right? And you have an idea what’s happening so don’t lie!” The vocalist pouted at him.
K felt like telling him to go ask Tohma, but decided to skip the hysterics such a ‘rejection’—as Ryuichi would see it—would bring. He was running out of time until they actually had to work, too. “I’m working on seducing your keyboardist, and he isn’t taking well to it.”
Ryuichi, eyes wide, stared at him for several long moments before snickering. “Gomen, K, but I’m trying to imagine anyone seducing Toh-chan. And…it’s not going well? He’s sabotaging your band! What’d you do?”
“Oh, just…messed with him a little. It didn’t quite go the way I’d planned—he wouldn’t give me a goodnight kiss.” K barely managed to keep a straight face as Ryuichi’s expression contorted—he looked as if he wanted to know everything and felt ill about it. “I think my teasing hurt his pride…”
“Not to worry! Kuma-chan and I will assist you!” Ryuichi struck a pose, proud of himself. “Oh! And first I’m going to make Tohma give the show back and tell him it’s not okay to take relationship problems out on Shuichi’s band!” And before the American could get a word in edgewise, the brunet was gone.
Shaking his head ruefully, K left the empty recording booth. He wasn’t sure what he’d gotten himself into, with either Ryuichi or Tohma, but things were certainly going to get interesting.

As Ryuichi rode the elevator to Tohma’s office—he wasn’t likely to be there, but it was the first place to look—he pondered what he would say. He didn’t think he’d tell either of the blonds that the other really was interested just yet…that would ruin the fun. But he’d help things along, keeping innocent bystanders safe as he went—Bad Luck hadn’t done anything, after all. Those two would be good for each other—each was probably the only one who was capable of keeping the other in line. It would be very exciting, soon!

Okay, here’s the next one! From here on out, I’ll be posting an update to one of my stories (the drabbles count as one…this and Colors) every two days. Hope that’s good, but I’ve been busy recently. That way, if I write ahead, I’ll have extras, and even if I fall behind on writing I’ll have some of the next chapters already written. I’ll try to get Drievuldigheid out as soon as possible.
If you’ve read any of my other stories, you’ve probably figured out that my perception of the characters is vastly different from those in the anime. First of all, in the manga ALL the characters act both more and less schizophrenic at certain points. But I’ve also read all the extras (Remixes, Megamixes, etc.) so that’s altered them too. The two that change the most are K and Ryuichi—Tohma is pretty much shown as having the same bizarre personality whichever manga you’re reading. But here’s my views on K and Ryuichi:
K: He was a government agent, so I really don’t think he’s as much of a goofball as he acts. And in the manga, when you see him with his son or wife, he’s like… an adult. And he’s constantly manipulating Bad Luck. He’s just good enough that nobody catches it every time—though occasionally Suguru or Hiro will.
Ryuichi: Probably the most confusing character. By the end of the manga, it’s pretty obvious that the little fucker is at LEAST as bad as Tohma when it comes to fucking with people’s heads. Look at the phone calls, etc that he uses to abuse Shuichi… so that the kid will pass him up? It’s strange, to say the least. In the remixes, his dynamic in the relationships that get shown with Tatsuha are also odd—he seems to know just what to do or say to get the poor kid walked right into a trap of his own making. As peculiar as his logic is always shown or perceived to be, it’s also always correct—he gets what he wants even more than Tohma, because he can get TOHMA to give him what he wants.
Whew! Long author’s note. Should I have put it under it’s own little story-thing? Cause…yeah…. I didn’t want to though, cause that seems a little self-absorbed. Like: “Yeah, let’s create a whole separate story just to write two paragraphs on the characters that I need the readers to know for ONE story. They might not read the extra bit if it’s taken out, but hey! Let’s do it anyway!”
That up there was the reason I didn’t. So, please review? ^_^
