Chapter 8

It seemed like an argument was going on. But you heard a door open, and a womans voice added to the fury, although all of the voices died down, except for the woman's. You were shaking and and crying, and for a moment that was the only sound in the room. Then you opened your eyes for a moment, and saw it was the alomd eyes woman, the queen. You squeezed your eyes shut, terrified as you continued your terrified sobbs.
"The child is innocent. The men and women of the southern post all reported back at their schedueled dates, simply delayed by a storm." The woman said in a stern voice. You looked at a man that seemed uneasy. You were scared of him, of everyone.
"Ejan, your trechary has been discovered. I think you owe it to my daughter to tell her your motives for trying to kill her child." The queen said, her voice calm, but an acid whip at the same time.
"That girl is dangerous! She is a danger to our society, and our cause! By letting her live, we make outselves vulnerable to any consipiracy she is involved in! From the moment she was lost, she was no longer trustworthy! There is no way she could get by the southern guards without killing them!" He said. You did everything you could to stop crying, but you couldn't. Hot blood smeared onto her tunic as the green eyes woman held you to her breast. You clutched to her for dear life.
The queen said something rapidly to her, and you felt her walking. You were taken out of the room, away from the people, the poison, the lies, the deceit, the shame. You were walking away from death.
You held onto the woman for dear life, you never wanted to let go. For the first time, you were safe, this was safety. You would never be hurt as long as you were in her arms.
You heard doors open and close as you went. The morning sun still shone brightly through any windows, but you held on for dear life, however your crying had not lessened. You felt a thin cloak placed over your head, and body keeping you out of sight, and you kept walking. You soon felt the woman sitting down. But she still held you close. You suddenly felt a jerking, and heard a carage start to move. You felt the cloth removed from you, but you still held close to her. She leaned back in a corner, but you held close to her, you cried, letting you emotions go. You couldn't speak, but you could cry, and that was what you did. The woman soothed you gently, her touch was the only thing that made you feel better.
You had a bunch of her tunic clutched in your hands, and you stayed close to her for hours. You wouldn't open you eyes or let go. This was the first time anyone held you like this. You feared that if you let go of her, someone would hurt you, but you also feared that you would never be held like this again, never be protected like this. Slowly over time you calmed, but stayed close to the woman. Your head rested in the crook of her shoulder and neck, as you relaxed your body. Unknowingly, you fell asleep of exhaustion.
You woke, but kept your eyes closed. You felt your head was resting on a soft feather pillow, and you were covered the soft silky blanket from beofre, and a feather blanket. You could feel the gentle swaying of a carage, and the sound of horses, but you heard no driver or whip. You opened your eyes, and you looked up. You were surprised as you realized that your head was resting on the woman's lap. She was asleep, her eyes closed, and her head resting on a pillow in the corner of the swaying carrage
You were on your stomach, so you turned around so you were looking up at her. You took a deep breath, and all around you the air was cool and comfortable, the light of early moring shown through the cracks in the carrage, the windows had no glass, but they were close with curtains.
. You sat up, and backed away. You felt your body trembeling, as you stayed on the soft cushioned seat, but stayed pressed against the wall. You kept your knees to your chest. You felt your heart racing in you chest as you stared at her. You wanted soo much to crawel into her lap and clutch to her like a little child but you were scared. You suddenly moaned and clutched your head, your felt your forehead and felt a large bruise. Everything was spinning, and you were dizzy for a moment.
She suddenly shifted and she opened her eyes. She looked to your scared form. You opened your mouth to say something, and she straightened, and you gasped quietly and flinched.
“Come here my child, I won’t harm you.” She said, tears in her eyes. You stared at her, your eyes wide as you took deep breaths. You didn’t move as you felt tears fall down your cheeks.
“Please don’t be scared.” She said. You looked down, ashamed of your fear. She had saved your life and now you wouldn’t go to her. She could have just let them kill you. You trembled and cried, terrified,
“I’m going to come over to you okay?” She said gently. You looked up as she took slow movements towards you. She gently reached up, and placed her hands on your cheek.
Before you knew it, you threw yourself at her, and you heard her gasp. You were too scared to make your movements at a reasonable pace. You wrapped your arms aorudn her and clutched to her, your body trembeling in fear, terrified she would reject you, once again you began to cry, your entire body trembeling.
Arya looked down at the child and she looked at the knife she held in her hand. As soon as she saw the child lunging at her she drew her knife and she was about to kill her in self defense. She dropped the knife and looked at the child clutching to her. Arya had seen her eyes when she pressed herself away from here before. Forever arya knew she would be haunted by those eyes, she had never seen a child soo terrified, so empty and lost, her eyes so empty.
You could feel her tense and you continued to cry and you buried your face into her leather top.
“P-p-please, I-I-I’m sorry, I’m sorry, please, please, please, I’m sorry.” You whispered. You felt her hands come down around you, and you flinched violently, and whimpered in fear.
“Its okay!” She said.
She held you tightly in her arms, and cradeled you as you calmed. You were in absolute shcok that this was your mother, holding you.
You looked up at her, just taking in her features. The memory of the day before snuck back, and you placed your hand to the back of your neck, and found the gash gone, and your skin clean of blood, although your scratchy tunic was still stained.
It was just too many emotions at once. Fear, joy, sorrow, happiness, sadness. You shook, but not with fear, but emotion, you held onto her tightly.
You rested in her arms, it already afternoon. Your head rested on her shoulder, and you were silent in thought. Her hand brushed the hair on the back of your head, as a mother would.
"You need to eat, you haven't in three days." She said. You looked up hesatantly, and nodded. You realized you were ravenously hungry. You watched as she pulled away from the contact and went over to a bag that was sitting on the opposite seat. She opened it, and you saw clothing, a wrapped food. Next to it sat 3 large canteens of water, and they were made out of a strange light wood, you also saw a sword layed across the seat.
She set out two wrapped packages, and a bottle of water.
"we have two days until we reach the capital." She said, as she untied the strings to the packages. You pulled the blanket closer around you, and sat crosslegged on the seat, watching with interest, although wary of her.
"You were asleep for four days, this is the second carrage we picked up." She said.
You were surprised by her words. You looked down at your wrists and saw you were skin an bones. You touched your cheek, and you felt your cheek bone with your skin stretched taunt over it. You were cold, barely able to get warm as you were wrapped up in the soft feather blanket.
She came over with the food. You saw that it was a large hunk of cheese, an apple, and a large amount of bread. There was also some large carrots, and whole cucumber. She had the same, but in smaller rations.
Your mouth gaped at her, you had never had so much to eat before.
"Its okay, you need to gain weight." She said. You nodded, and watched as she sat down next to you. She cut the cucumber, and carrots for the both of you, and as you watched her manuver the knife, you had the feeling she had used it many times before. You looked at your food, and attacked it. You ate the bread quickly, feeling it run down your throat. You ate the carrots and cucumber, the juies welcomed in your mouth. You had never had them before, and now you found you loved them You found that you couldn't eat your cheese as fast as you would have liked to, but you still consumed it before she even finished one thing. Next you turned to your apple, but took your time a little more. You loved how sweet it was, the juices waking your mouth to new tastes, and some of it dribbled down your chin. You ate the whole thing, seeds and all. You had ignored your body telling you it was full even after you finished the bread. You just didn't know when you would come by food next. You knew she had been watching you as you ate. But you were cold, hungry, and still tired. You sat, your knees pulled to your chest, and the feather comforter wrapped tightly around you, so only your head poked out. The carage had two wide benches on either side, both wide enough to sleep on comfortably, and had soft pillow tops. The carage seemed to be made out of the same wood as the canteens, but it looked like you could lift the carage with one arm. You wondered how it could hold up on the hard forest floor.
You watched as the woman finished her food, and neatly folded the waxed papers from your meals, and set them aside. She then sat next to you, and crossed her legs. You both looked into each others eyes for a moment. Questions burned in your mind as you thought of your life. You were dying to ask her everything, but decided on one simple question.
"What is your name?" you breathed whisper. You didn’t know what to call her, even so, you wanted to know her name, to be able to identify yourself in some manner.
"Arya, Arya Drottningue " she said.
You nodded.
"Arya, its beautiful" you whispered to yourself. It was a beautiful name, and you forgot she could hear you. A thought occurred to you.
"Do I have name?" you asked hopefully, your eyes brimming with tears. You wished soo much that you had a name.
She looked at you for a moment, a somewhat surprised, and sad look on her face. Her posturing was guarded, as was yours. You were so unsure of her, of yourself even, never had anyone really talked to you, not like this, not talking. You still remembered the first time you saw her, and the beating. Hers was the most painful you had ever known. She not only hurt you physically, she destroyed you emotionally. But you weren't mad at all. She didn't know, you didn't know. You weren't mad at anyone, no one knew they truth, and they were trying to keep themselves safe, weren't they?
"Eraon, Eraon Drottningue. In Elvin society, daughters take the names of their mother, and sons the name of their father." She said.
You felt your cheeks flush. You became really excited, but you kept it within yourself. You had a name, a real name, a good name to. It was pretty, you liked it. You felt so fortunate that you actually had a name. There were probably a lot of people out there who didn't have names at all.
You felt the gentle swaying of the carriage. You wanted to ask so much more, but you were worried that you might make her angry with your questions. You wanted to know what happened, if she wanted you, if you had a dad, where she lived. You also wanted to ask her why the sky was blue, why the seasons changed, and what the stars were. But you barely knew this woman, yet you had known her your whole life.
