Chapter Seven: "Planning and Negotiating.”
Haruhi sat in complete silence, waiting for her brain to finish processing Kyoya's question. How was she intending to approach her session - What did that mean? Out of habit her tongue darted quickly over her lips, and she instantly regretted doing so she tasted him lingering on her lips. "I'm sorry Kyoya-sempai. I really don't understand what you're asking."
He tried to ignore the temptation as she moistened her lips, forcing his mind to stay focused on the conversation. "Your client session." He repeated. "Walk me through what you're going to do."
"Oh." She knew her mind could barely focus on what she was doing right now, never mind what she was going to do almost a week from now, but for his sake she tried. "I don't know. I guess I figured I'd do what I always do when it come to the Host Club. Sit down and wing it."
He resisted the urge to facepalm, but did not hide the slow head shake. It seemed Tamaki had been right. Having someone teach Haruhi would be a good thing. Gaining a better understanding of how much work that task was actually going to be, he touched the pads of his fingers to his temples and rubbed with small circles. Looks like he was going to be starting with the basics with her.
"I'm going to assume that was not the answer you wanted."
Haruhi's soft words drew a soft sigh from his lips. "Not really." Kyoya admitted.
She frowned at his honesty. Not that it shouldn't have surprised her or anything. This was Kyoya after all. When was he ever anything but honest? "I'm sorry." Haruhi repeated, once again apologizing for something she didn't understand. Whatever she was going to say next was silenced by his soft sigh.
"Stop saying you're sorry. It's not like any of this is your fault." That familiar edge had crept back into his words, and it almost made him wince. Now was not the time to upset her. After all, he still hadn't told her the real reason he'd invited Haruhi to lunch. Stealing a quick glance at his watch, he frowned slightly. He was running out of time.
Feeling those unwavering brown eyes fixated on him, Kyoya did the only thing he could think of. He met that gaze head on, and jumped in with both feet into this rather daunting conversation. "That's why I want to teach you."
Silence followed those words and neither teen dared to break it. Had she heard him correctly - He wanted to teach her? Teach her what? And the other important question; how much were these lessons going to cost her?
Haruhi's mouth opened, only to snap closed quickly when no words came. Clearing the lump from her throat she forced herself to speak. "And what, exactly, is it that you want to teach me Sempai?"
It was a question Kyoya had been expecting, and he found the answer quickly. "How to handle your private clients."
Haruhi blinked in surprise to the answer. That was not that she had been expecting. Actually, that had been the last thing she'd been expecting. Ever since that first day when she'd shown her 'natural talent' for hosting, her fellow club members had backed off on their insistence to teach her their secrets. For the most part they left her alone to do her own thing. The idea now that Kyoya actually wanted to teach her something was proving difficult for her brain to process.
"I don't think I'm getting this." Haruhi admitted, that flat honesty creeping into her words.
"There isn't much to get." Kyoya responded. "When it comes to our private clients, they're paying us a great deal for the experience and confidence we Hosts have to offer. What I'm going to teach you, are those two things."
His words fell into silence as Haruhi mentally worked through this new information. Experience and confidence - with what? She was well aware of what these private sessions consisted of, thanks to the twin's explanation. But did that mean Kyoya was going to teach her that?!
Watching those round brown eyes widen in silent surprise, Kyoya's brows rose over the rims of his glasses. "And so the light goes on." He stated softly, a dryness to his words. "Now do you understand?"
"I think so." She replied, voice shaking slightly. "You want to teach me about," pausing, Haruhi forced the heavy lump from her throat, "pleasure."
Kyoya nodded. "Essentially, yes. That is exactly what I'm going to teach you."
A sudden flashback to their earlier kiss sent an instant blush to her cheeks as her next breath caught in her chest. She knew that if she were to lick her lips again, she would still taste him. Faintly, but he would still be there. Could she really go further with him? Taking a page from his book she released the caught air from her lungs and thought about this rationally.
Given her very limited experience with boyfriends in general, she could honestly say that her knowledge of all things sexual was practically non-existent. That had been proven by the fact that she barely knew how to respond to his kisses earlier. And it wasn't like he was an un-attractive male. No. Quite the opposite actually. There had been many times previously, in the darkness and comfort of her own room, she allowed herself to think of her fellow Hosts as the males they were. They each had their strong points and main features; but even she would admit there was not an un-appealing one out of the entire group. On the other hand, Kyoya had been right about their clients expecting a certain level of service from their Host; and now Haruhi was not so sure she would be up to that expectation. But did that really mean she needed something as extreme as lessons?
Seeing the frown now on Haruhi's lips, Kyoya cocked his head slightly in question. "What are you thinking about?"
"Don't you think that lessons might be taking things a bit too far, Sempai?"
Yes, Kyoya mentally agreed, a response that he was quick to squash down before it left his lips. "Not really. After all, how well you perform is a reflection on the Host Club."
Haruhi should have expected something similar for an answer, and she sighed gently. "Isn't there some other way?"
He swallowed down his growl of frustration. "If you have a better idea, I'm all for it Haruhi."
She did not see the almost challenging look in those lensed eyes before she closed her own to further ponder his question. All it would take would be one bad experience, and she very likely would lose her position in the club; and Kyoya would add the cost of her failed appointment to the already outrageous amount of her outstanding debt. Though she did not exactly know what a bad experience would be; she knew that she did not have the two key factors needed to make this work. Without being in the club, she had no way to repay back what she owed. As much as she hated to admit it, for the sake of her debt, she was going to need these lessons.
Exhaling a heavy sigh she opened her eyes and slowly shook her head. On a small voice, she replied. "I can't think of any other way."
"Glad that's settled." Commented Kyoya. "Since your first client is Monday, we'll set the first lesson for Saturday afternoon. That should give us plenty of time."
Haruhi formed a rather catty comment asking just how inexperienced he thought she was if they were going to need plenty of time; but thankfully swallowed it down. She needed what he was offering, and angering him would not get her what she needed. That didn't mean she wasn't going to express her concerns though.
"Does it have to be Saturday, Sempai? They're usually really busy days for me."
"Doing?" He questioned.
She frowned. "Homework, shopping and housework normally."
"Easy solution then." His tone had slipped into that used when talking business; a tone normally reserved for Host Club meetings. "Do your shopping in the morning, bring your homework with you in the afternoon, and do your housework on Sunday."
"But," a frown touched the corners of her mouth as she spoke, "why would I bring my homework? I thought you were going to teach me."
"I will." Kyoya replied with a curt nod. "But the homework does make a good cause, should anyone ask as to why we're spending time together. Besides, it's not like I haven't helped you with your homework before."
Haruhi opened her mouth to speak, only to close it when she realized she wasn't saying anything. Wasn't it only yesterday that she was weighing the options with asking for time off; yet here she was further adding to her busy schedule? With the one person she'd been least expecting to.
Knowing there was no other way around the scheduling he'd so obviously given previous thought to, Haruhi slumped her shoulders and released another heavy sigh. "Fine. What time on Saturday, and where?"
