Ch. 7
+ Celestial World +
Three walls, a ceiling and these bars. This is what Loke was stuck calling 'home' now. The air was thick with depression and desperation. The only rays of light came from the one object that restrained Loke from his destiny. His lifemate.
Golden shackles pulsed as they sapped the strength of the once almighty Celestial Lion. All signs of hope were drained from Loke's gaunt looking features. Days had turned into months for his Lucy and every minute spent here was another lost moment in time he could have created memories.
The reverberating clang of the shackles was another tick in time preventing the happiness of one man.
As the days passed, a different Celestial spirit would visit his bleak and baron cell. They would bring him food and some bit of information about Her that helped Loke to get through the dreadful days ahead. Each time they visited, a pained expression seemed to flicker over the Celestials' faces; as if, they were hiding one key piece of information from him. What was it that was so important to keep from him? Lucy was his world, so why would they hide all the glorious details about her? What was it that kept those gloomy eyes of theirs from spilling the secrets? It was driving him mad.
"Leo….Leo its' me….Aquarius. Helloo? Anyone in there?' Aquarius spoke with irritation in her voice as she grounded her fist into his golden head of hair.
"You look like shit and it's pissing me off. Hold that head up high, Leo. You're the leader of the spirits and there is no way in hell I am going to let you act like the world has come to an end when it has just begun."
Loke slowly picked up his head and gazed up into Aquarius' radiant ocean blue irises. It seemed for a brief moment, a flicker of sadness reached those irises but they were quick to become enflamed with rage.
"I'm tired of this gloomy shit. Go make yourself useful, Loke.." She blurted out his human name as she waved her hand over the shackles. With such ease, the restraints fell gracefully from his wrists. It almost seemed to effortless for her. Loke would topple to the floor in a heap. His wrists were seared with marks indicating the shackles had done their job restraining his powers. In shock, Loke looked up to Aquarius who was still keeping up the whole "bitch" act that she wore so well.
"You owe me one.. oh and Gemini." She motioned over to where the pair of twins stood smiling and bouncing about. In one fluid motion, a light beamed from the two entities causing them to form into a single being. There stood an exact replica of Loke with a somber looking expression. Loke was staring into the eyes of a defeated man. A man who looked like he had given up his life and whose worth equated to nothing. That was him and he was damn well-ashamed he had let himself get that far.
The replica of Loke was quick to replace the shackles upon its' own wrists and kneel on the ground like the same defeated man Loke once was.
"Go get that woman of yours. Your time is limited so make the most of it." Aquarius had folded her arms over her chest with such resilience. She was going to accept whatever came her way for this decision. Betraying the Celestial King's trust was not something most celestial beings did on a regular basis. But damn, was it apparent every single one of them were willing to defy the laws for their one true friend, Leo.
Loke was not normally the type to get personal with the other spirits. He was always the type to put leadership and protection first. But in that one moment, Loke embraced Aquarius so firmly with tears bursting from his eyes.
"Get the fuck off me you sappy pussycat. You're wasting my time and yours with this crap."
A smile seemed to find its way onto her soft lips before she shoved him off in the direction of his ultimate destination, Lucy. Secretly, Aquarius prayed it would be the last time she had to see that sap of a lion cry again.
+Magnolia: Lucy's Apartment+
Gray was holding Lucy's hand so firmly that it had begun to turn purple. This fragile blonde haired, brown eyed beauty was fighting through the pain of pregnancy. Each step of her journey through the pregnancy was getting more and more difficult. The strength of the baby was immeasurable as it grew at an alarming rate through the few months that had passed. She was only 7 months pregnant and she looked like she was about to burst at the seams.
"Lucy, please try to smile. You're going to have a baby by the one man you had loved. That's got to mean something to you, right?" He attempted his best smile as he kissed the top of her forehead.
Gray had learned to be the nurturing male figure that Lucy had lost. As the months had passed, he was always at her side. It may have taken a huge hit to his love life, but he owed Lucy so much that it was worth the sacrifice. On a more selfish level, Gray had grown to adore Lucy's personality the more he visited her. She had so much passion, elegance and wit that he was baffled by the fact that he had never noticed it before.
"Had loved…? I still love him." Lucy stated bluntly.
That was all that needed to be said to end that conversation. But even with those harsh words, tears trickled down her cheeks as she leaned into him.
Lucy's belly seemed to radiate a beautiful golden glow as the baby moved within her stomach. Each movement felt like a painful jab to her insides leaving her worn out and groaning in pain. Wendy had been a regular visitor always going over the details of her pregnancy. Lucy's condition continued to spiral downhill while the baby seemed to thrive like a shining North Star.
At one point, Wendy had offered to reveal the gender of the baby to Lucy. It was something everyone had grown curious about but for Lucy, she refused to find out. She had resigned herself to defeat. There was no way she was going to live through this pregnancy without Loke. It was better not to get connected with the baby on a more personal level by knowing its gender. All she knew was that Fairy Tail was a place for family and orphans. A place where her baby would be safe if she wasn't there to nurture it safely.
Another thing Wendy had pointed out was Lucy's fractured ribs and her magical energy being drained. While Lucy's body was unable to accommodate the baby's strength; the baby had been groaning at an alarming rate.
Her fragile fingertips would glide over her stomach which protruded out. That simple touch had grown warmer showing signs of a secret bond the child had with its' mother. That baby loved her and she wanted to love it with every ounce of her heart and soul. But there was one person who was unable to love it and it was because he didn't even know of its existence. That was what hit Lucy the hardest emotionally.
"It's getting painful, Gray. I don't know how much strength I have to keep up with this baby. It's going to be here soon and all I want is Loke to be here to see this child."
It truly hurt Gray to hear those words uttered by Lucy. He thought maybe, just maybe, he was making a difference and she had some form of affection growing for him as well, but she was consumed by Him…. And nothing he did would compare to what Loke had done for her.
"I'm sorry, Lucy."
That's all Gray could say before dropping her fragile hand from his and walking out the apartment door.
It was too painful for him to stick around. His job now was to find Wendy and get her to help Lucy through the last bit of her pregnancy. It was evident that Gray was not going to be Lucy's saving grace. He needed to get out of town and take the edge off of being rejected by one of the most beautiful souls in all of Magnolia.
Time to focus on him for a little while.
As Gray disappeared into the misty streets of Magnolia, an ear piercing scream echoed throughout the streets. A painful cry that foretold of a broken heart and a hard road ahead. Was this the cry of Fairy Tail's broken fate? Or was it of one man or woman's plea for salvation?
