Izuku's release from the hospital is met with a small entourage of students from 1-A that has Tōya possessively wrapping his arms around Izuku and scowling at them as they approach Izuku all at once. It's enough to make the lot of them hesitate and keep their distance, except for Shōto who returns Tōya's scowl with a glare and dares to come over to them anyways.
"Uh, hey, everyone," Izuku greets them in a subdued tone and he leans back into Tōya, which Shōto seems to notice because his glare intensifies.
The corners of Tōya's mouth twitch upwards and he smirks in satisfaction at what he assumes to be his little brother's jealousy over Izuku being his soulmate. Just to test his theory, Tōya carefully watches for Shōto's reaction as he nuzzles his nose into Izuku's hair at the crown of his head. Shōto's expression darkens significantly, and there's definitely jealousy flickering in his eyes, which Tōya relishes in.
"Hey, Deku! We're glad to see that you're okay!" And Tōya's good mood quickly sours upon hearing his soulmate be called by that abhorrent word in such a jovial tone from the girl with the round face.
Tōya straightens up, his arms winding around Izuku just a tad bit tighter, as he shifts his gaze to the girl and glares. "Do not call Izuku that despicable word," he snarls, his blood starting to boil while his flames threaten to come out with his anger, and the girl looks appropriately frightened.
"It's ok-"
"It is not okay, Izuku," Tōya growls out, and he regrets how harsh he sounds towards Izuku but he needs to make it clear that he isn't going to tolerate anyone calling him that word. "Because you are not useless."
The girl flinches, her face paling rapidly while her eyes go wide and she covers her mouth as she looks from Tōya to Izuku. "I-I'm sorry, I t-thought it s-sounded nice."
"Midoriya did say that Bakugō used it to bully him," the teen with the blue hair and glasses says rather matter of factly, and the girl flinches again.
"And he still uses it to bully me," Izuku says softly as he bows his head, and he trembles a little. "I know that you don't mean it like Kacchan does, Uraraka, but it's probably better if you just call me by my name instead so that, uh…" He trails off, a note of uncertainty in his voice, and he shifts around in Tōya's grasp just enough to look up at him. "What did you want me to call you?"
"Sōen," Tōya supplies, happy that Izuku remembers his request even if it earns them a few looks of curiosity from Izuku's friends.
"Right," Izuku acknowledges with a slight nod and then he turns his attention back to his friends. "As you can see, Sōen objects to it quite strongly so it's better to just call me by my name."
The girl, Uraraka, nods and gives Izuku a weak smile. "Okay, Izuku."
"That shouldn't be a problem, kero," the other girl, the one with a frog-like appearance, says with a nod of her own, which draws a murmur of agreements from the blue-haired teen and one with a black bird's head.
"So, uh, this must be your soulmate," Uraraka says in a soft and subdued voice as she looks from Izuku to Tōya.
Tōya wants to be snarky and ask her what made it obvious but Izuku tips his head back and angles it to look up at him this time, and he has the brightest smile on his face. "He is," Izuku confirms, and Tōya gives him a soft smile in return.
"Then I'm happy for you, Izuku," Uraraka says with a genuine and fond smile. "And we should probably introduce ourselves. I'm Uraraka Ochako," she adds with a near formal bow.
"Asui Tsuyu but please call me Tsu," the frog-like girl says with a wave.
"Tokoyami Fumikage," the bird-head teen says with a slight nod. "And this is Dark Shadow," he adds as an inky mass that vaguely resembles him emerges from his abdomen.
"I am Iida Tenya," the blue-haired teen almost bellows out as he gives an overly formal bow.
"We've already met, right, villain?" Shōto bites out angrily, surprising everyone except for Tōya. "What was it they called you? Dabi, wasn't it?"
Izuku stiffens in Tōya's arms while the rest of the teens look between him and Shōto with varying degrees of shocked expressions. Tōya just grins and nuzzles his nose into Izuku's hair again while he stares directly at Shōto. "I burned my bridges with the League of Villains the instant I recognized Izuku as my soulmate, quite literally if you may recall, so whatever it is you think you're doing by bringing that up isn't going to turn out in your favor, Shōto. Besides, I already gave the heroes and the police all of the information I had on the League and where they hide out while Izuku here was still out of it." That much had been unavoidable, though he does need to make good on his promise to fill at least Tsukauchi and Eraserhead in on his identity now that he's had the time to talk to Izuku.
"And that information is a great help to our efforts in dismantling the League," a tired voice drawls from behind the students, and almost all of them stiffen in recognition of Eraserhead's voice. "Todoroki, stop antagonizing Midoriya's soulmate."
"But-"
"You should listen to the hero, Shōto, because this one seems to have your best interests in mind unlike Endeavor," Tōya interrupts in a saccharine tone and Shōto goes rigid at his words, his eyes wide as he stares at Tōya in shock. "Now, if you don't mind, I'll be taking Izuku home, which is where you and the Detective will be able to find me," he adds with a nod towards Eraserhead, and he whisks Izuku away from his friends without so much as a goodbye to them.
"He shouldn't have said what he did but you didn't have to go that far with Shōto," Izuku says quietly once they're outside and his friends show no signs of following them.
"If you're expecting me to be suddenly nice to him just because we're brothers then you're going to be severely disappointed, Izuku," Tōya responds as he loosens the hold he has on Izuku so he can turn him around to face him properly. "I have hated him and everything he stands for for years, and that's not going to go away anytime soon."
