Chapter 8: Darkness, All-ConsumingHe was floating in the clouds and he felt no pain...Something cold trickled down his chest...liquid...salt spray on his lips...
"Swallow."
...He was a kid again...This puzzled him but the scene was familiar so he didn't dwell on it too much...A tall, serious man was speaking and everyone around turned to listen...They were standing on the deck of a small sailing boat...a ragtag band of royalists who believed in an impossible ideal...The young boy looked down at the ship's hull cutting through the waves...It was a clean cut and the water roared and swirled, leaving nothing but foam in its wake...liquid...
"Drink this."
...A thick fog descended...He could barely see anything save for the figure of a man...He was hiding behind a haze of smoke...Sweet-smelling smoke that rendered men weak and pliant...borrowed dreams...
"Yoita!"
"It wasn't your fault!"
"Stop it! I will not lose you now!"
"It was opium! He died of an overdose. It wasn't your fault!"
...The haze began to take shape and color and he was standing at the center of the dojo...It was red...Red everywhere...Red like the color of his sensei's scarf...Red...Red like blood...Blood?...
...Battosai the slasher stood at the center, his stained blade drawn...His eyes were pale gold and piercing...It was the eyes of a killer...But something was wrong...Kenshin's eyes were purple and these eyes he was staring at were amber...Amber eyes he could drown in...Her lips were like poppy blooms as she spoke...
"Swallow."
...A silken robe brushed against his cheek...The feeling was intense and he lifted his arms to grasp her...The amber widened in surprise and then narrowed until they were mere slits behind sooty lashes...Ribbons of silk...He held her hair and inhaled deeply...She resisted at first but he was persistent...His hands found two mounds of pliant flesh...There was a gasp as he found the tiny pebbles grazing the top...
Sano knew then that he was dreaming but he couldn't pull himself out of sleep...He wanted her...He lowered himself, tasting her flesh...Silken skin, soft against his calloused palms...He sucked on her neck, creating a mark there...Her hands fought him but her body responded...He found the dark raven tuft of hair between ivory flanks...He closed his eyes then and inhaled deeply...The cold hands now generated heat as he kissed her...Heat...Warm...Desire coursed through his veins and his hoarse whispers mixed with her moans of pleasure...
...He lifted himself up and stared down at her...Then with a shout, he plunged down hard...The amber misted over and he realized then what he had just done...He felt her flesh give way but he couldn't stop himself...He raised and plunged down again...Blood roared in his ears...He bucked as he grabbed her hips...And then he felt white hot pleasure consume him...He shouted his release...
...Tears...She was crying...liquid...salt on his lips...
"Swallow."
"Megumi?"
"Shh."
