I (Talia) stare down at my sleeping muse with piles of donated cookies surrounding her for a long moment before sitting down at my computer. I look at her once more before writing an alarm clock into the room, one of the horribly loud and obnoxious ones. She doesn’t even stir. I write myself banging on a drum set (having never sat down at one before.) Nothing. I write myself taking a baseball bat and banging on a soup pot. Not a budge. I kick and the mattress she sleeps on until I’m so tired I fall over. The Muse rolls to her other side. I write a noisy elephant in to the room. The Muse begins to snore. I write a parade with coding fire trucks going through the room. Not a damn thing! Resigned, I sit next to her and pick up a cookie, taking a bite. The Muse wakes immediately.
“Hey,” she pouts, “That’s mine.”
I take her hand and lead her to the chair next to my computer. “You’ve been sleeping long enough. It’s time to work again.”
Begrudgingly, she grabs a bag of cookies and sit next to me. Here’s what we came up with:
Kaki set the jug in the water holding onto the leather strap, letting the current slowly pull the container. Shii stood behind her, watchful eyes scanning the forest line.
“Miss Kaki, we should get back. I have a bad feeling about this.”
“Fine, it’s full anyway.” She hefted the now heavy pottery out of the stream. Kaki turned to leave when something caught her eye. She turned back to the water and starred as blood floated down stream.
“Let’s go now” Shii grabbed her arm to pull the stunned woman away from water edge.
“You’re not going anywhere.” A deep rumbling voice said.
“Miss Kaki… run.” Shii said in a low voice.
“I’m not leaving without you.” She replied. The warrior drew his sword and took stance. The demon stepped out of the trees. He stood ten feet tall, fifteen if you count the tail.
“Give the girl to me.” He ordered.
“You can just forget it.” Shii said. The demon ran forward clawed hands out stretched. He took Shii in the chest sending him flying. The warrior coughed and stood again. The next lunge the demon took was stopped by Shii’s sward going through his forearm. The demon backhanded Shii so hard Kaki heard his neck snap and he lay motionless on the ground. She started to back away from demon the check on Shii. The demon moved in a predatory way, inching towards her enjoying the look of fear in her eyes.
“Shii?” Kaki questioned softly. Gods, this was bad, this was really bad! She didn’t here or see him breathing and his face was beginning to bloat and turn blue. The demon reached for her and Kaki, with more strength then she ever thought she possessed, held the water jug by its strap and swung the container at the demon. The leather broke and the pottery pitcher hit the demon square in the face and broke on impact. One of the pieces flew out and hit Kaki, sending her to the grass. She saw stars for a moment and couldn’t even fight when the demon hoisted her up over his shoulder. The injury combined with the sudden change of gravity made Kaki black out. ‘Tasuki, help’ she thought as the blackness took over her vision.
Tasuki, on the other hand, arrived just in time to find a dead Shii, a broken water jug and a scaly tail recede into the forest. He tried to follow but the demon, who’d been walking previously, began to run when he saw the fire wielder coming after him. Tasuki tried to keep up but was soon out of breath. He slumped in the grass and tried to think. Unfortunately, nothing useful was coming to mind. ‘I lost her… I lost her’ his mind screamed over and over, ‘she’s gone’
“Genrou?” Ren called in the distance.
“Tasuki?” Chichiri called. When the group found him, Tasuki was still sitting in the grass.
“Tasuki, what happened? Where is she?” Chichiri set his hand on Tasuki’s shoulder, trying to break him out of his shock.
“She’s gone.” He repeated his thoughts eyes trained on the ground.
“Chichiri, what do we do now?” Reko asked the monk.
“You all should stay here, in the city. Tasuki and I are going to Mt. Taikyoku.” Chichiri spread his tunic and led the fogged man to it. In a rush of cloth and wind made their way to Taiitsukun. Genrou looked at the pink floating bubbles and then was shocked back into full consciousness by Taiitsukun staring him in the eye from inches away. He shrieked (literally) and back away as quickly as he could manage. Waving the fire fan at her like a stick.
“Would you stop that, you celestial idiot!” She shouted.
“Why did I do this time?” Tasuki growled at the old woman.
“You lost the key, that’s what. Here I trusted you to bring her safely and you loose her.”
“Taiitsukun, I really don’t think that’s fair, you know.” Chichiri interjected.
“No,” Tasuki stopped his friend, “She’s right.” He laughed bitterly, “I’m the worst kind of romantic. I hate women as a rule and when that rule get’s broken, it’s for the one that’s already in love with some one else or I can’t even protect her and she get’s taken.”
Taiitsukun looked at him for a long moment before replying, “So you’ve fallen for the Key of Suzaku?” The fire wielder nodded, the mountain witch smiled “I will show you the cave where the Key is being held. It’s up to you to retrieve her.” Nyan- Nyan carried the large mirror to the group.
Taiitsukun spoke to it, “show the path to the Key.” The mirror’s surface turned white and showed the path through the trees and over a large river. ‘A river, oh great,’ Tasuki thought with no amount of humor. Chichiri nodded as he committed the trail to memory.
“Tasuki, let’s go, you know.” The monk spread out his tunic again. The fire wielder complied immediately, sitting cross legged on the cloth. Chichiri bowed to Taiitsukun and a stood on the material, dropping the end of his staff to the ground.
A/N: Gah, long bloody time, I know. Thanks for the cookies, ya’all, they came in handy. Oh and I TOLD YOU THIS STORY WASN’T ABANDANED! But… you know… I love reviews. Seriously, I can’t get enough of them. Hey! Here’s an idea how about you leave me one? (Feels sheepish for whoring oneself for reviews again)

PS- seriously though, review ^_^
