Chapter 8
Nimh lay awake that night, listening to the chirping of crickets and Wally’s deep, even breathing. He’d been unable to sleep so instead he opted to stare at the thick foliage serving as his ceiling as he thought. His Pokédex said that white creature was still around Goldenrod, maybe even in the park. It seemed almost as if it was waiting for them to find it...
He shook his head. It may be a Legendary, but that didn’t mean it was omniscient. It couldn’t really know about Wally, and why Nimh was trying to catch it... Could it?
He sighed and rolled onto his side, watching Wally’s peaceful face as he slept. Nimh smiled to himself; the trainer looked like an angel in this state. An angel that didn’t deserve all the pain he was going through... His heart fluttered for a moment as Wally turned to face him, licking his lips in his sleep.
‘Okay Nimh, calm down... You can’t start getting perverted thoughts about your friend when he needs you... Besides, he’s asleep, he doesn’t know what he’s doing.’
“...Speaking of sleep, I should try to get some...” he murmured to himself, closing his eyes. A light rain started soon after, lulling him to sleep.
----
Wally woke the next morning feeling quite refreshed, despite the kinks in his back from sleeping on a hard surface. The air smelled fresh and clean, due to the rain the night before, and sunlight filtered through the leaves making everything glow green. He smiled to himself; he could definitely get used to this feeling.
Nimh was still fast asleep, and drooling on his pillow. Wally had to bite his lip to keep himself from snickering, and decided to occupy himself with finding breakfast. By the time he’d fished two granola bars from his bag, Nimh had woken up.
“What time is it?” he murmured sleepily, wiping the drool off his face and onto his sleeve.
“I’m not sure.” Wally replied. “But I think it’s pretty late in the morning. That was the best sleep I’ve had in ages.” He smiled. “It feels good to be out and about again.”
“Yeah. Not sure I’ll ever be able to sleep in a regular bed again.” Nimh agreed, rummaging through his own bag for breakfast. “Could do with something a little more comfortable than a hard floor though... What do you think about hammocks?”
Wally smiled. “Hammocks sound nice. We can get them today, right?” He blushed, realizing he sounded a little too eager. Nimh laughed.
“You read my mind...”
