Chapter 8: Ryosuke’s Girlfriend
Maebashi University
Two days later, Mizuki appeared at Maebashi University, waiting for her boyfriend at a bench near the opened car park. She was wearing what Ryosuke did not like to see, a mini skirt. Guys were turning their head to see her, curious about the girl.
“Hi, my name is Kuro. What about you, young lady?” Kuro asked.
Mizuki took a few glances at the man and slowly got up and walked toward the other bench.
“Lady, it’s no use to run away ‘cos I’m going to follow you till I get your name. Come on, let’s go for a drink,” Kuro followed behind.
Mizuki watched the man for a second and increased her steps toward the white FC. She was shivering a little when Kuro continued to follow her at a distance. Mizuki then looked around, finding a way to keep the man a distance from her.
‘Ryo, where are you?’ she thought as she watched Kuro from the other side of the FC.
Kuro smiled as he stood on the other side of the car watching Mizuki. At the same time, Ryosuke just finished his class and was slowly stepped out of the classroom. He did not expect his girlfriend to look for him until he saw someone familiar standing at his car.
“Mizuki,” he exclaimed and quickly ran over to his car.
Every head along the corridor and building turned when they saw Ryosuke dashed down toward the car park. Ryosuke then grabbed Kuro’s arm and snatched him away from his car.
“Leave my girlfriend alone!” he told Kuro fiercely.
Kuro watched Ryosuke wrapped his arms around the girl and walked away. ‘Takahashi Ryosuke’s girlfriend. That’s interesting!’ he smiled.
Everyone was surprised to see Ryosuke was so concerned about a girl. As for his fan girls, they were shocked and some was jealous as they watched Ryosuke opened the door and help his girlfriend to get in the car. Inside the car, Ryosuke checked on Mizuki who looked scared and tired.
“Mizuki, I’m here with you now,” he said gently.
Mizuki nodded, “Thank you. I’m fine now.”
Ryosuke gave her a kiss on her forehead and slowly pull out of the car park. Mizuki cuddled herself up on the seat and dozed off. Ryosuke glanced at his passenger during the ride. He then put a jacket over her as she slept.
Takahashi’s Residence
Mizuki woke up in the late evening. She was on the bed while Ryosuke was occupied with his work at the study desk. Mizuki got up and walked over to her boyfriend.
“I…” she wanted to say something but still deciding what to say.
He turned back and looked at the girl and placed a key on her hand, “Next time, wait for me in the car.”
Mizuki stared at him surprisingly, “I’m sorry but I can’t accept it.”
“I have my own reason to give you this key. If you don’t accept it, I’ll be very upset,” he said.
“But it’s your car and you don’t like people to touch it,” she replied that fact that she knew about him.
Ryosuke looked up at her again with a grin, “In that case, you can give me your AP2 key.”
“AP2?” she shook her head. “I can’t.”
“Why? Is it because it’s more precious than your boyfriend,” he asked, teasingly.
She nodded with a smile, knowing that he was teasing her again, “But I wanted to give you this instead”
Mizuki took out a box from her bag and passed to him. Ryosuke let out a big sighed when he saw a set of keys sitting inside the box.
“I’m posting to Kanagawa for 2 months so we can’t see each other as often as we are now. One of the keys is my Kanagawa’s apartment key so you can drop by anytime,” Mizuki said.
“Since you’re going away, I’ll…” he kissed her lip and slowly pushed her back to the bed. “Need to make up while you’re away.”
“Ahh! No, Ryo!” Mizuki stopped him from going further again when she pushed him away.
“Sorry,” he apologized.
“Sorry, I’m still not ready yet,” Mizuki apologized.
“I will wait,” he smiled as he rubbed her head lightly.
Maebashi University
Ryosuke pulled his car over at one of the empty parking lots. He reached to the rear seat to get his bag before get out of the car.
“I can leave at one o’clock. See you,” he told his girlfriend, who was standing next to him.
“Are you sure that you want me to drive this FC back?” she asked.
Ryosuke nodded and kissed her lips.
“See you later. Don’t be late, ok?” he said and slowly walked toward the building.
Mizuki drove off soon after he entered the building. She was very tired and sleepy. It was only 7.30am and she could not go back to Takahashi’s mansion as Keisuke might suspicious about the FC. So she headed to her apartment at Mt. Haruna. Mizuki then fell asleep as soon as she reached the sofa.
Maebashi University, Cafeteria
Ryosuke was waiting impatiently at the bench in front of the university. He wondered where Mizuki was when she was nowhere to be seen and was late for more than half an hour. Finally, the white FC appeared in front of him.
“Sorry, Ryo. I fell asleep and forgot about the time,” she quickly apologized.
“It’s ok,” he replied and drove out immediately.
“Don’t angry with me, can?” she asked.
“It’s ok,” he replied.
“You’re angry, I know,” Mizuki said.
“I said it’s ok,” he replied annoying.
Mizuki turned her head to her left and leaned her head on the window. She was looking out of the window with her tears rolling down her cheek. Ryosuke never speak to her in that way and she was scared of losing him. Ryosuke continued driving without looking at his girlfriend. He was just annoying when she made him worried.
“Are you hungry?” he asked.
Mizuki shook her head. Ryosuke was very angry when he did not get her respond. He pulled his car over along the road shoulder.
“Are you,” he asked and paused when he saw Mizuki was crying.
“Micky, I’m not angry anymore. Please don’t cry. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have shouted at you,” he pulled her over.
Mizuki tried to push him away but Ryosuke hugged her tighter.
“Mizuki, I’m sorry,” he apologized.
Mizuki did not say a word and slowly passed out. Ryosuke was even more anxious when she fainted. He raced his car to the hospital after checking her pulse. He carried her into the ER and watched the doctors checking on her.
“How’s she?” he asked the doctor.
“She’s fine, just need some rest. She’ll come around soon,” the doctor told Ryosuke and walked off.
He grabbed her hand and stayed by her side.
Takahashi Hospital
Mizuki opened her eyes slowly and looked around the place. She softly placed her hand on Ryosuke’s head, as she watched him sleep. He woke up by her light touch.
“Are you ok?” he asked and poured a glass of water. “Drink some water first.”
Mizuki looked at him and slowly sipped the water.
“Let’s go home,” he took her hand and led her out of the hospital.
“I’d like to go home tonight,” Mizuki said softly.
Ryosuke looked at her for a while before he nodded. He sent her back to her house that late evening.
“I’ll fetch you tomorrow afternoon,” he told his girlfriend.
Mizuki looked at him for a long pause and said, “I… think we shouldn’t … see each other for a while.”
“Mizuki, I’m sorry. I still see you tomorrow. I’ll be here tomorrow,” he told her.
“Don’t be like that, Ryo. I just want some time with myself,” she replied.
“Mizuki, you can’t do this. I’ll not be seeing you everyday after you moved to Kanagawa,” he said. “Don’t do this, Mizuki.”
Mizuki entered the house, leaving Ryosuke standing at his car. She wanted to tell him how she felt but on the other hand, she could not. Mizuki looked up into the sky and stared at the moon.
Takahashi’s Residence
Ryosuke was drinking in the living room after he came home. He was troubled by Mizuki’s behavior. It’s been a month that they were together and it was the second time he made she cried. He treasured their relationship but he found that Mizuki was hard to understand sometimes. He did not know what she was on her mind.
“Aniki, are you in trouble?” Keisuke asked when he saw his brother drinking at home.
“I’m fine,” Ryosuke replied.
“You aren’t,” Keisuke replied. “Let’s go out for a drink. Come on!”
Keisuke pulled his brother out of the house to a club. Soon, the FD arrived at Lucky 5 and the two brothers entered the club. They sat at the quiet corner, drinking and chatting.
“Been here before?” Keisuke asked Ryosuke.
Ryosuke nodded.
“I thought you would never come to the club,” the younger man commented.
“It’s a friend’s birthday,” Ryosuke replied.
“Aniki, what’s your problem with your girlfriend?” Keisuke asked.
“I don’t know, Keisuke,” Ryosuke replied helplessly.
“What happened?” Keisuke asked.
“I don’t know what’s on her mind. She… she said she needs some time with herself,” Ryosuke replied.
“You have a fight?” Keisuke guessed.
“It wasn’t really a fight. I just annoyed and raised my voice at her,” Ryosuke said. “And she’s moving to Kanagawa next week.”
“What?” Keisuke exclaimed. “How are you going to maintain your relationship?”
“Kanagawa isn’t that far. I can go and see her anytime. The thing that troubles me is her reaction every time she knows that I’m angry. I guess it might be worst if we’re really quarrel,” Ryosuke said.
“I think you should talk to her,” Keisuke told his brother. “She’s insecure. She might be thinking that you’ll leave her if she makes you angry. How fortunate you are, Aniki?”
Ryosuke raised his eyebrow, “Let’s go home.”
“Aniki, let’s stay a little longer,” Keisuke said.
“What about you? Where’s your girlfriend?” Ryosuke asked.
“Iris? She’s busy,” Keisuke replied boringly. “Aniki, what’s so good about study? I find she’s too hardworking sometimes.”
“It’s good! She must have a good discipline. At least, she’s better than you, lazy pig!” Ryosuke said.
“Yes, she’s good. Top student in the class,” Keisuke pouted. “ I don’t understand why she needs to study when she’s already gotten such a good grade.”
“I really hope to see you take your study seriously sometimes,” Ryosuke smiled.
“You spoilt my mood, Aniki,” Keisuke pouted and walked out from the club.
Ryosuke smiled as he followed Keisuke to the car. He wondered if Mizuki was really felt insecure like what Keisuke said.
Fujiwara’s Residence
Mizuki was sound asleep on the bed. She reached her hand out to her phone under the pillow when the phone was ringing.
“Moshi… moshi,” Mizuki whispered in her sleep.
‘Mizuki, it’s Ryosuke. Are you asleep?”
Mizuki nodded and said, “Yes.”
‘Mizuki, good night.’
“Good night, Ryosuke.” Mizuki replied.
Ryosuke waited for some time before he hung up the phone. He was actually outside Mizuki’s house. Ten minute later, his phone rang. It was Mizuki who called him back.
“I shouldn’t woke you up,” he said through the receiver.
‘Are you ok?’ Mizuki asked.
“I’m ok. I’ll call you tomorrow,” he told the caller.
‘Ryo… you have something to talk to me?’ she asked.
“It’s not urgent.” Ryosuke replied.
‘Oh, ok,’ Mizuki said.
“Mizuki, good night,” he said.
‘Good night, Ryosuke,’ Mizuki replied.
Ryosuke kept the phone and slowly walked back to his house. Mizuki walked over to the window and accidentally saw Ryosuke. She was reluctant a little before she got out of the house. She ran toward Ryosuke and wrapped her arms around him.
“Don’t leave me,” she said in tears.
Ryosuke turned back and faced her, “Mizuki.”
He wrapped his arms around her tight.
“Don’t leave me, Ryo,” she cried.
“I will never,” he replied. “Mizuki, looked at me.”
Mizuki looked up into his eyes.
“It doesn’t matter whether I’m annoying, angry or even if we quarrel. I will still be with you. But I don’t want to see you like this. Mizuki, promise me that you won’t say you don’t want to see me again or something along this line,” Ryosuke said.
“I’m sorry,” Mizuki apologized.
“You don’t need to apologize,” he replied.
“I thought you will not love me anymore and…” she explained.
“Mizuki, there will be ups and downs in a relationship. I want you to trust yourself and me. I want to be with you and so you must not think about all these nonsense.” Ryosuke told her.
Mizuki nodded.
“I see you tomorrow afternoon. So you’d better go back to sleep,” he said and walked her back to the house.
“Good night, Ryosuke. Be careful,” she said.
“Good night, Micky,” he kissed her forehead.
Next afternoon
Ryosuke fetched Mizuki out for a date. He brought her to a shrine for a walk after light lunch. They were chatting away which Ryosuke wanted to assure her about their relationship.
“I’m too childish,” Mizuki said, as she sat down at the stone bench.
“You aren’t,” Ryosuke replied. “You just need to have more confident in yourself and us. I really love you… more than anyone I had before.”
Mizuki looked up at him with curiosity, “How many girlfriend did you have?”
“Don’t ask about this,” he brushed off.
“Tell me please. I wanna know,” she insisted.
“No, I don’t want to answer this nonsense,” he walked away.
Mizuki chased after and continued pestering her boyfriend, “Tell me. I want to know.”
He turned around and grabbed her shoulder. He looked into her eyes and said, “Mizuki, is the past important than the present? I only look upon the present and the future. The past is just a past. Remember this, I want you to live for the future and not the past.”
Mizuki nodded and said, “Knowing your past means I can understand you more.”
“I’m not the same person as you see now,” he replied.
“In what sense?” she asked back.
“You won’t be happy to know them,” he replied and turned his faced away.
“If you think I will be bothered by knowing you have many girlfriends and even lost count on those girls that you had one night stand with, you are wrong. It seems that you don’t trust me,” she said, looking into his eyes.
“You knew it,” he muttered.
Mizuki nodded, “What I want to know is which girls you were seriously in love.”
“Kaori, but she left me for another friend of mine,” he told her.
“What happened to her?” she asked curiously.
“She committed suicide last year,” he continued.
Mizuki cupped his face, “I’m sorry. Ryo, will you put her behind?”
He nodded and replied, “I had since I met you. Micky, I take our relationship seriously.”
Mizuki nodded, “I know it.”
“Mizuki, are you happy now or in the past?” he asked.
Mizuki looked up at him seriously and replied, “Now. If I never met you, I would still live in the past.”
“I want you to be happy because I’m happy when you’re happy,” he smiled gently at his girlfriend.
Mizuki gave him a big smile and hugged him tight, “Thank you, Ryo.”
“Can we go shopping later?” Mizuki asked.
“No, no! You’re overspending,” he replied and held her hand.
“No one ever said that,” Mizuki pouted. “And it’s my own money.”
“What other activities do you like to do?” he asked.
Mizuki thought and replied, “Shall we go to the gym then?”
“Ok!” he nodded.
It had been a while since his last workout. They went to a country club that late morning. Mizuki changed into a singlet and shorts. She then put on her earphone and started to warm up. Ryosuke was warming up on the other section of the gym.
Takahashi’s Residence
“Aniki, you’re home,” Keisuke said as soon as he stepped into the house.
Ryosuke nodded with a smile.
“Everything’s all right now?” the younger boy asked.
Ryosuke nodded.
“Good! I don’t want to see you look so trouble,” he passed the remark.
“Have you practicing?” Ryosuke asked his younger brother.
Keisuke nodded, “I just came back from the practice.”
“Good. You’d better go and rest,” Ryosuke told Keisuke.
