8. Cracked is the Bittersweet Surface now Choke Beneath
The dark hallway was unsettling, his steps unsure, yet he eased forward lured mostly by curiosity. The ground he walked was treacherous and unstable, he could feel it in his bones, the way his legs hesitantly moved down the eerie carpeted hall. “Shit!” He said when he had to dive to the left because he thought a door had opened but had not. Truly his tired mind was playing tricks on him. His nerves were shot and Matsuda really had no clue why. He’d done far more daring things when they had been investigating the Yotsuba Corp. Was it L the set him on edge like this? Spying on the clever detective, following him, it was… exhilarating and dangerous, an almost powerful feeling overtook his senses. To stalk L was a high like no other and the man had no idea he was being watched. Too absorbed in his own bizarre world.
What would he say to the older detective if he was caught, what would he say even if he wasn’t? Matsuda was slowly forgetting what lead him this way, the fear of what may happen to him clouded the forefront of his mind. But he couldn’t stop, it was as if he was being pulled by a force stronger than himself. It was that feeling that dared him to touch a blooming fire even though he knew it would burn. The young detective was gliding across matches doused in kerosene, it was all a matter of who would strike the fire beneath him.
What business did he have to spy on L like this anyway? Sure his detective instinct had baited him into entering this hotel but L wasn’t breaking the law. Matsuda was just incessantly nosy. Besides that, it was strange seeing L here in Japan (still) and with that mysterious person. The young detective could not deny that annoying human need to understand what was going on. Even though it was truly none of his business. It wasn’t. Though, when it came down to it he did need to see L, he needed to talk to the pale man. Matsuda nodded easily convincing himself of this as he snuck past the first of two doors that adorned the lonely hallway.
When he reached the second door, the one he guessed was the main entrance to this posh penthouse, he pressed an ear against it and listened. One of his hands fell smoothly next to his face holding himself in place while the other went into his pocket retrieving his cell. Looking at it for only a second he quickly pushed the end button, turning it off. He couldn’t risk someone calling him as he stood here in the barren hallway. L would surely hear it. The man had ears like a bat or something.
Focusing his mind on the door he heard the sound of hushed voices speaking words he couldn’t make out. After a few very long moments he thought he heard someone scream, which caused his eyes to widen in surprise. The sound was a troubling one. What on earth could be going on in there? Maybe this person infuriated L just as much as Light had, he remembered those two fought quite a bit. Then again L had been chained to Light 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The person he was with now didn’t look as if he were confined to the eccentric detective by chain, yet something seemed out of place. Should he knock? Maybe L was in trouble. He raised a shaky, nervous fist to the door, hesitated momentarily while sucking in a deep breath and put his hand down by his side. He could potentially be ruining a case and he really didn’t want to do that. He’d hated those disappointing, disproving looks L had always given him in the past, but if the detective was in trouble he couldn’t stand idly by either. He had to knock.

“I’ll get rid of him.” Ryuk smiled seemingly happy with this interesting response from Light.
“I can not allow you that privilege.”
“What!?” Light said his gaze tore from Ryuk’s to the pale detective that was huddled safely in his arms, those dark eyes staining his vision.
“You’re not gonna listen to him are ya? You never let anyone push you around before.” The shinigami said looking quite smug as he crossed long arms.
Light molded his glare perfectly, placing it first on Ryuk then L. “You can not allow me that privilege? That’s just great L, typical in fact.” He said pushing the older man away from him. L moved easily, sitting up to scowl at Ryuk. The death god of course chuckled. “Since when do you get to regulate my life?” Oh, this conversation seemed quite subdued to what it could be, L thought humorously. The power of sex. He would have to use it more often.
“The moment you entered my custody is the moment you gave me control.” The detective rubbed lanky fingers over his eyes then placed a thumb on his lips. It was not a lie, L had been calling all the shots and Light was currently in his protection under his guarding eyes and lingering touches. Light hadn’t complained… much. Though he knew a person like the young Yagami needed control. The man had always had it even when it seemed like he had none. Light would never willingly succumb to being powerless and L didn’t want to make him, but he didn’t want Kira roaming free either. All he wanted, all he needed was to save Light from his Mother, to remove the threat that dangled heavily over his head like an anvil on a frayed thread. What happened after that the detective was not sure, it was possible the anvil would remain only to be severed by Light himself. What he was doing for the young man was not for everyone to embrace and understand.
L’s image would be tarnished by this, his soul already had there was not much left that could be stripped from him. Not much else he cared for.
“I see the sugar has finally deluded your mind.” From behind his thumb L smirked moving his lips slowly to give a response. “The only sugar I’ve had is Light’s bittersweet blood.” Light’s detailed facial expressions were incredibly entertaining. Something like watching a very lively and amazingly put together performance of Cirque de Soleil. L imprinted the performance to his memory.
“Well…last time I checked you ate a peppermint and just for the record I’m not your prisoner.” L shrugged and Light sneered throwing the blanket from himself and scooted even further away from the detective to get dressed. “I’m not your…” he was throwing his hands dramatically in the air as if for some effect while kicking L’s pants at him with a steady leg, “possession.”
“It is refreshing to know Light is here of his own will.” The vampire said plainly roaming his eyes over the young Yagami as the teen dressed, then moved his gaze to the ceiling as he spoke. “But, you see,” his eyes hovered back to Light where they smiled, “you are currently in my possession.”
“I am not in your anything! I am here because you thought far enough into the future to foresee the problems that now plague us. That does not make you my overseer or equal.” The detectives eyes narrowed delicately and he blinked slowly his fingers smoothly massaging his lips and chin.
“Of course Kira.” L was not quick enough to move out of Light’s lightning grasp as the younger one gripped his shoulders harshly shaking the slighter man.
“Stop it!” He shook L again his eyes tapering as he stared cruelly at the vampire. “Don’t call me that!” L’s hand fell from his face and he tilted his head as if thoroughly confused.
“Why not, it is who Light is.”
Light smirked darkly shaking off his fury as he leaned closely to L, “And who are you vampire?”
“Me? Why I‘m your-.” The detective coolly stated through bared teeth as Light spoke over him.
“You-”
A quiet tapping on the door interrupted the two geniuses and they both looked at one another before L quickly stood to his feet also getting dressed. “I will handle this.”
“How?”
“How?” Blinking, he turned to Light scratching one of his ankles with his foot.
“Yes, L. How. As in how do you plan on handling this?”
L looking quite perturbed turned away and walked through the bedroom door with the teen closely behind him. “I know what how means. I was speaking sarcastically. It is you who have failed to catch the implication of how the word was used.” Looking over his shoulder Light smiled insanely as if it was all he could do to not lunge at him and nodded. “Hmm.”
“Your shirt is on backwards.” The teen snidely pointed out, L only stuffed his hands into his pockets as he walked on showing no interest in fixing it.
“Does Light plan on handling this with me?” L ceased his forward movement and backtracked into Light turning to face him. “If Matsuda becomes aware of your presence I can assure you we will have a slight problem on our hands.” Light rubbed absently at his neck as he stared at the detective who was staring at him with wide unblinking raccon eyes. L reached his hand forward covering his colder skin over Light’s warm fingers. “That is uncomfortable?” The younger one said nothing, just removed his hand as L’s continued examining. “Come closer.” The vampire demanded and Light did so with a reluctant look on his face as L eyed the partially hidden wound. Unbuttoning three of Light’s buttons he folded the shirt open so he could take a better look, his finger tracing the puncture wounds softly. “Hmm.”
“What?”
“There seems to be,” L’s finger intricately followed the tiny veins on Lights neck, “quite a few veins decorating the area in which I bit you.” Leaning closer he sniffed and licked at the abused spot as if this would give him an answer. “The skin around this area resembles fragile porcelain that has been cracked.”
“What does that mean?”
“I do not know. Possibly nothing.”
“Why don’t you tell me what it is you do know.”
“I know nothing Light-kun.” His hand fell away from Light’s skin as if he’d been cut deeply and he hid it in the safety of his pocket.
“What about your Mother. She didn’t teach you the ways of the underworld?” The detective offered a mock smile. Lenore teach him…If she had L would not be the man he was today, or rather he would be the man he was today, a full fledged vampire. Lacking sentience.
“ First and foremost Lenore is a vampire, not a Mother. Once my Father died she did too, though not physically. She left, and I never saw her again. I know nothing of what I am. Do not presume otherwise.”
“I didn’t.”
“It is not unlike Light to make such an assumption.”
“Yes it is and I didn’t. You’re angry, I can see that, this is an open wound for you.”
“Wounds can not heal if they are treated by salted hands.”
“L, you are difficult and confusing, but not an enigma. You put up walls that you destroy and blame others for stepping over these shattered boundaries. You’re afraid to let anyone in-”
“No, I choose not to let anyone in. We are the destroyers of man, humans. We devour each other.”
“Of course, there is no one else to do it for us. That is why we need someone like Kira.” L snorted at this baring his teeth just slightly proving his point easily.
“The world nor the people inside of it will change with Kira’s rule. It is human behaviour to defy. Fear, hate, and love begat many unstable criminal emotions.”
“Even between us?” He asked L who stayed silent as if contemplating the perfect response. “So what…, we live on the outskirts of each other, feeding off only what the surface has to offer?”
“I never said I wanted to be with you forever.” As of lately L’s lies were terrible and Light had seen through each of them easily. Maybe he wanted him to.
“No, you only said it was you and I against the world. Fuck, you can’t even see your slipping because you have too much going on and you won’t let anyone help you.” The detective only blinked, so Light continued. “Pride comes before a fall.” How L truly wanted to laugh because he was not a mirror and surely Light was seeing his own reflection.
“Yes, Kira.” This response made Light go afire and he looked as though he would rip L apart, yet he pulled the slighter man to his lips and kissed him. Those warm lips collided messily against his own and L opened his mouth to allow Light in. That was what the teen wanted right? To be let in, it is what the kiss screamed of, but how could L trust Kira? How could he let Kira in? In short he could not. He could barely trust himself, but he licked at the man above him regardless, his tongue searched for some semblance of hope to rectify or prevent the coming of a dark future. Light was his to behold and he was Light’s this was how he wanted it to remain. Yet there was a beauteous darkness fated to obliterate them with each step they took inside one another.
When Light pulled away his face was subdued, calm. But L, L was anything but. “This love, these emotions, the sex it does not remove barriers.”
“No, but I do.”
“How can you-”
“Whatever walls you build, whatever boundaries you feign I will devour and destroy. I will always be there.” If it was meant to be poetic, reassuring, or romantic L hadn’t felt it, in fact he felt something else altogether. Fear. He felt fear. An emotion so gripping and cryptic he wanted to pull away from Light, to look away from those piercing almond shaped eyes but he did not, he leaned closer to the psychopath allowing those long arms to encircle him. Enclose him like a killer who loved to play with their prey before shredding them to bloody pieces.
How could there be love inside of Kira?
L knew the answer was only one, there was not.
When L shifted his gaze slightly behind Light he found Ryuk staring right at him, his eyes revealing nothing, they were simply unchanging. It made L hum quietly to himself. There was something off about the situation, about the relationship between Light and Ryuk. It had changed somehow, something about the two was not the same. The detective felt it was strongly to his benefit, it was the way Light treated the shinigami. The way he subtly put the death god at a distance, the way he didn’t reveal every secret to Ryuk. Was it because the shinigami was actually going to take Light’s life on those steps? Had that opened the teen’s eyes, did he truly understand Ryuk would kill him when he felt his time was up? Or was it because of L, was there a part of Light that honestly cared about him and was willing to do whatever it took to keep the detective safe? L wished fondly of the latter his heart aching for a love that could be pure, but knowing nothing in his life had ever been that holy or clean… no it all was tainted by something even his very birth was cursed.
Love was not going to be riding a white steed with a man named Light atop it, it would not save him. No. It would only devour him as stated from Light’s own mouth. So be it, he was not to be cherished, he was nothing special, he’d made mistakes and he would pay for them.
“I should answer the door.” He said to Light’s shoulder.
“You don’t have to. What’s the worst that could happen, he’d just come back later. Then he will eventually go away... Forever.” L smirked at the last part, eventually go away… forever, well of course that is what happened when someone died at the hands of Kira. They went away forever.
“I’m not entirely sure about that. It seems he has been working diligently on the case of your death. What makes you think he will end this now, just because I simply do not answer the door?” Light continued to crush L to his chest refusing to let him go as if the detective was the only thing holding Kira back from overtaking Light and rushing him to embrace the death note. “What if he thinks I am in trouble and he decides to force his way in?”
“I will force his way out.” A strange smile suddenly appeared on his lips as he gathered his thoughts.
“Light-kun,” L said softly breathing into the strong collarbone that lay beneath his lips. “We discussed this, you can not show yourself. It would only serve to complicate the matter.” Light’s diligence on the subject was infuriating and flattering, L understood these things at their simplest form like this. But it got complicated if he allowed his thoughts to delve further, he wanted to remain like this, on the surface where it was safe and he could be in Light’s arms without all the other problems. It could be him and Light and no one, nothing else. He wanted Light to love him, to honestly want and adore him.
But, something that perfect was not to be, was never to be. Two conflagrate deceitful beings does not make a happily ever after. It only made an obsolete world barren of anything real. “I must retrieve the door.”
“Fine.” Light said loosening his grip on L. The detective slowly eased out of the warm arms standing back to stare at Light. “Are you going to fix your shirt?” L wanted badly to smile but he bit it back as he shrugged causing the younger one to huff a response and fix it for him. “Seriously, Matsuda may be missing a few screws but he’s going to notice when the usually messy L is wearing his shirt backwards.” Even if Matsuda noticed, what would it matter? L didn’t owe anyone any answers, but he guessed that was just the way Light’s sordid mind worked. He was a little grateful for it because the gesture made him happy.
“Thank-you Light-kun.”
“…” The seemingly taller one leaned forward and kissed L on the lips slowly. “…” It seemed as though his counterpart was at a loss for words and L was not sure how to take this. So instead of dissecting the situation he decided it a good time for him to walk away.
So he turned feeling Light’s eyes on him as he disappeared around the corner.
-o-
The investigator opened the door and stared blankly at Matsuda who in return stared at him from behind eager nervous eyes. After a minute of no one speaking L felt the small amount of patience he had slip away as he carefully eased the words out of his mouth, “Can I help you?”
“Oh! Um yeah, it’s me Matsuda.” L rolled his eyes while leaning on the door.
“Your identity never escaped me.” Matsuda rubbed his hands together and smiled happily or bashfully L was not sure. L did not care.
“I’m sorry Ryuzaki, I’m just really nervous.” To this the detective narrowed his eyes slightly, one of his hands finding his face as his thumb caressed his lips.
“Nervous.” L echoed blandly as he continued to examine Matsuda’s face.
“Well yeah…you’re a pretty guy…” The vampire detective raised his eyebrow as the younger detective laughed nervously. Had Matsuda always been so strange? He hadn’t really paid that much attention. The super sleuth soon found his thoughts trailing elsewhere as he felt the heat of Light’s stare burning into him from somewhere behind him and he couldn‘t help but smile inwardly. Was Light jealous? “What I mean is you’re a pretty unnerving guy.”
“Hmm.” L bit at his thumb. “Is that all?”
“Ha, ha, no… no. Can I come in?” The nervous one made an awkward gesture with his arm and L could have sworn he heard a deadly animal growling from somewhere in the distance between his back and Light‘s mouth. For the most part he was highly amused with the situation. “I mean… unless you are working on a case.” He started to blush and L wondered why. “I saw the person you came here with.” So Matsuda had indeed seen his precious cargo but had no clue who lay beneath the wrapping. Oh, this was just unbelievably priceless and L actually had no use for priceless but found it a fond memorable moment nonetheless. It was also an undeniably bad situation or soon to become one. He was sure Matsuda had come here with innocent intentions, but upon seeing Light he was sure that innocence had been a tad bit sullied. It was human nature to be curious, to uncover what the dark had hidden. Human nature was quite foolish.
“Come in if you like.” L said moving back to make room for Matsuda to walk in which the younger one did. He looked around the room with an untrained analytical eye. No doubt searching for L’s companion.
“Are you sure?” L ignored what he thought was a ridiculous and rhetorical question, if he wasn’t sure then Matsuda would not be in.
“You’ve been following me?” The detective asked while switching on the living room light to find his discarded bag of candies. Matsuda kept looking about the room, obsessively searching for L’s mysterious counterpart but Light was smart enough to keep himself hidden. When L found his candy he hurriedly unwrapped one joyously throwing the sweet into his mouth.
“No, not at all. I actually found you by accident. You see I was…” He stopped talking for a moment as he regarded L again his eyes growing very wide as he watching the older man climb into a heavily pillowed chair. “You are deathly pale.” The younger one stated moving closer. L looked up at him with bored un-amused eyes as he sighed.
“This is not new.”
“No, this is- are you sick? Are you okay? Before I knocked I um heard…” L’s hands fell to his knees where he gripped them tightly steadying himself as he looked to the side wondering where Light was exactly. Was he simply hiding around the corner or had he retreated back to the bedroom? It would be unlike the young Yagami to do the latter and willingly put himself out of the loop so the detective resigned to the train of thought that the handsome psycho was nearby. Matsuda’s hand was just a touch away from L’s sickly pale face and the young one folded his fingers into a soft fist as he brought it back to his side. “I’m sorry, I did not mean to pry.”
“Mmm.” L said to the piece of candy in his mouth. “Would you care for a sweet?” The detective held the bag out to Matsuda who hesitantly grabbed one and nodded his thanks. He twirled the piece of candy in between his unsteady fingers as he stared at L and L eyed him with a raised eyebrow. “You were saying.”
“Oh yeah, well I was out for a cup of coffee.”
“At 3:15 in the morning?”
“Well yeah I kinda had a hectic week, with the case and everything. That’s actually why I wanted to see you. I’ve been talking to this Agent, Agent Eronel maybe you know her? I’m sure you do because she seems to know you very well but she’s looking for you.” L showed no emotion or reaction to this news as he gingerly put another piece of candy in his mouth. His mother had been in contact with Matsuda. He knew she was close but he didn’t know she was that close and now that Matsuda had followed them here she surely knew where he was. Which meant she knew where Light was. They had to leave, but he also knew they couldn’t keep running. The time would come when they would have to confront her and he was not sure he was prepared for that just yet. “She’s been wondering why you haven’t turned the death note over and I am just a little curious too, but then again I trust you. I always have” He added happily.
“Not that it is any of your business but I don’t trust anyone with the note, including other agents. I would rather not have it out of my sight.” L knew Light was surely thinking him crazy for saying that. He trusted no one with it, yet handed it right back to the man who was Kira.
“That… makes sense. I think Agent Eronel is just worried about you is all and after seeing you I understand why. Are you sure you’re okay?” There was that nervous hand again reaching for L’s face as if he could wipe the abnormally pale colour from L’s skin. Did Matsuda always have such a caring nature, even for him? Was there an ulterior motive to the shaky hand that dared to touch his unmoving visage? His determination seemed motivated by emotion and idiocy, it was as if the young detective yearned to touch the sinful skin before him. Maybe the frigidness of his body would give Matsuda all the answers he needed.
“Agent Eronel and I have never cared for one another. The death note is a poison that is disguised as such, yet people become blinded by it’s definition, by it’s power. The want to hold it between your fingers, resting on your palms is a great a want as desiring to be God himself. I will not allow that to happen.” The man across from him nodded as if lost in L’s words. The hand that had taken many detours seemed to have found the right road as it firmly connected with L’s face and it strangely enough felt nothing like Light’s loving touch. These fingers were calloused and slightly chill as they scraped against his smooth skin and he almost pulled away. L was only equipped to have so many people touch him and all of those people were Light.
“If you say so. I’ll believe you, you know that… right? I’m just saying she seemed like she only wanted the best for you.” His Mother had never wanted the best for him, she wanted nothing for him. His relationship with her was about as loving and comforting as having a relationship with a wall. The detective bit at his lip as the hand on his cheek went impossibly still and he wondered just what made Matsuda turn cement-like. L looked up seeing that Matsuda was no longer staring at him but behind him, so L turned causing Matsuda’s hand to slip from his face and he saw Light there standing in the dark hallway with his hood up covering his perfect features.
“Hi, you must be working with L. I’m a detective, the names Tota, Matsuda I worked with L before…” Light said nothing just stood there looking as dark and evil as ever and L had a very terrible feeling giving birth on the curve of his spine. Matsuda turned to L and whispered, “Is he okay?” Which seemed to be a running phrase with him tonight. Is Light okay? Yeah right, about as okay as a serial killer in a basement full of humans chained to a wall and a rusted axe.
“You must understand the shock that your finding us has put us both through. Our whereabouts should remain anonymous.”
Matsuda looked back to Light and nodded. “Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone that I have seen or talked to either of you.” Light slowly began walking out of the shadow his hands neatly hidden behind his back as he eased out of the darkness.
“I know. You won’t be telling anyone anything.” L stepped out of the chair he was carefully folded into and calmly stood between Light and Matsuda as the younger detective huffed in confusion.
“What? I don’t understand-” The mass murderer put a hand on his hood. L narrowed his eyes.
“It is pertinent to this case that your identity remain anonymous.” L chided moving closer to Light, but Light was lost in his own world, L didn’t have to see his face to know that he could feel it like a growing cancer in his heart. The young Yagami smirked his eyes gleaming ruby as he removed the hood and directed the venomous smirk at Matsuda who screamed and backed up shaking his head in a nonsensical rapid manner. “Oh…! …! How..? HOW! You are supposed to be dead, you died- I saw you on the table… shit- you died!”
“You would have liked that wouldn’t you?” Light continued his slow pace moving past L but not before eyeing him with a deadly look. “You and I against the world… remember?” If this was their love the world was doomed. L could not allow such tragedy he had to nip this in the bud now.
“Do not attempt something you can not finish.” L warned placing his hand on the young psycho’s chest. “Matsuda is not the world. He is not here to harm us.” Light only laughed allowing his free hand to brush against L’s quickly.
“Wait…” Matsuda’s voice trailed off as he blinked as if realizing something. “You are protecting him, the way you touched him outside. You care for him… what the- L what are you doing? What are you doing? Do you love him? Why is he alive? Why haven’t you…?” Matsuda grabbed at the sides of his head as if trying to keep the sanity inside or kick the insanity out. “I was right all along? Me? Light was never dead was he?”
“I think you’ve butchered enough sentences.” Light held up the death note and Matsuda’s eyes went even wider.
“How could you L!? How could you!!” It looked as though Matsuda was going to cry and L would not blame him if he did. He had done a great wrong but it could not be fixed this late in the game. “You said you didn’t trust anyone with it, but you give it to Light. You give it to KIRA!”
“You misunderstand.”
“No for the first time I understand. You broke the law but why? Why save him? Is it because you have feelings for him? For this sick killer, this man that betrayed us all!” He threw his fist out at Light as if anger alone would annihilate him. “How could you do this to L-”
“The world would be far worse off if I did not save him.” The older detective interrupted.
“Hmph.”
“Matsuda you must calm yourself and think about this. Has anyone died by Kira‘s hands this past month?”
There was no answer from the young detective but he looked as though he were contemplating it. “Why?” His featured were pained as if he was physically wounded and L felt the wrongness of his choices suffocate his lungs slowly.
“Agent Eronel,” He sighed, “she is my Mother and worse than that she is a killer with a conscious worse than Kira‘s. Her goal is to acquire the death note and Light. Keeping them safe is of most importance.” Matsuda twirled about as if that represented the insanity he heard in L’s statement.
“Safe! Do you know how ridiculous that sounds! HE betrayed us all L, all of us, even you. He was going to kill you, he probably still wants to kill you. He can not be trusted no matter how much protection you think he needs. This man said he would kill his own family if he had to, he said his Father‘s death was necessary!” The grip L had on Light’s shirt tightened but his face remained stoic. “Please refrain from this emotional outburst. It will not help our situation. I must keep Light safe. It is the lesser of two evils. Misunderstand if you must.”
What then?” Matsuda asked as Light opened the death note with a sick smile on his face. “What then!? Will you turn Light in after all of this is over?”
There was a loud roar of laughter which caused both Matsuda and L to turn to Light as he barked manically the pen jiggling loosely between his fingers. L’s hand fell to one of Light’s the one that held the death note and he closed his fingers around the hand below his. “Would that please you Matsuda?” Light asked the grip on the pen tightening as his eyes narrowed. “Then you could have the detective all to yourself.” L was not completely sure what was going on in Light’s head but he was pretty sure the man had cracked. Jealously obviously leading him to reveal himself which surprised the detective tremendously. He never thought the young one would be bothered by such trivial things like the touches he received from Matsuda’s rough fingers. Then again maybe he wasn’t maybe it was an act, an excuse to kill the younger detective.
“You’re crazy.” Matsuda stated as he moved his hand to the insides of his jacket. L snatched the book away from Light but Light only laughed harder and L tapered his eyes which were on Light.
“Light-kun, what did you do?”
“What I had to.” The detective flipped open the book looking to the page Light had it on, while Matsuda pulled out his gun and pointed it at Light.
“I won’t let you continue this-”
“Better hurry then you only have a few seconds.” The killer smirked as L stood in front of Light.
“L! Move! He needs to die, he is a psychopath! He’ll kill us all! You’re a genius why can’t you see that, he does not belong in this world!”
“Neither do I.”
Matsuda shook his head at this confusing response and cocked his gun. “Move.”
“Do not do this it will resolve nothing, let me help you.”
The younger detective shook his head, “I would rather die than have you save me.” L felt as though he’d just been executed, but deep down he knew those words were what he deserved, he knew they were true.
Matsuda pulled the trigger while falling to the cold floor his other hand grabbing at his chest.
A/N: -stares at everyone- I felt like I’ve done something drastic here and I struggled tremendously with this, but ultimately I had to do it. Because in all honesty no matter how Light feels for L and even if his reasons seemed to be because he genuinely cares for the detective Light is always going to do what Light wants (for Light‘s benefit). He really isn’t a guy that is meant to be held captive or powerless. Is he? -cackles madly- No, he isn’t. -cackles sadly- p.s. I love you all!
