By Aurora Moon
I only have my spell check and my Grammar check to depend on in terms of looking for errors, but even then that's not perfect at all... so if you see some weird stuff, then sorry!

============================================================
Misa was now living in the fast lane, far as her newfound career was going. She didn’t join any college at all because she had been too busy modeling… and now she was on her way to becoming an singing idol too, thanks to an karaoke event at some bar she had attended with her bosses and co-workers. Her bosses at the modeling agency had been impressed with her singing ability, and it turned out that they also ran another agency on the side, for musicians.
They thought she had good star quality not only in looks, but in voice and personality.
So now Misa-Misa, the pop idol, was born. Her mother had been very thrilled, because it meant she had something new to brag to her friends/neighbors about.
Her father hadn’t been as thrilled, considering that he had wanted her to go to college so that she could have a “real future”. However he held back any negative comments he had… while Misa’s brother just said that she had some pretty good luck lately.
However, Misa’s mind wasn’t really been on her lucky career lately… but more directed towards the latest broadcasts of The other kiras’ messages out there.
Every night ever since the first Kira Broadcast, she had been completely glued to the news, mainly Sakura TV, for any new development regarding the other kiras out there.
She knew that she would had eventually run into the other Kiras out there or that they would find her sooner or later. This had her worried… mainly because she wanted to protect her own family.
After all, what happened if they thought her to be threatening to them in some way? Would they attempt to force her into being their ally if she didn’t want to cooperate, by using the lives of her family as hostages?
Or worse, would they just kill her AND her family outright just to relive themselves the hassle of worrying?
That thought was simply too much to bear!
So the way Misa saw it… she had to be the one to find them first before they found her, and also have a way to conceal her own identity so that they couldn’t use her own family against her.
The plus side was, she had the shinigami eyes now which she had exchanged so that she could always ensure that any people close to her, weren’t in danger of dying. She also had gotten them so that she could tell if anybody were Kiras at all. So she’d be able to spot any suspicious people very easily.
But the negative side was, that one Kira on TV had blatantly stated that he/she had the eyes too as well, and had been very clear that if the kiras didn’t come to him/her, she/he would be the one to hunt them down. Even far as going to threaten them that if they weren’t his/her ally, he/she would kill them!
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Misa had also gotten the impression that the Kira on TV had been the fanatical, crazy type. All that rambling about there being an “True god Kira ” just seemed utterly insane to her. And what was that about the Shinigami lying to Death Note users?
Khepfi had been laughing her insect ass off at that whole thing….completely filling the room with loud-pitched, buzzing laughter and flapping sounds of transparent, prismatic wings.
Misa had never felt that Khepfi had lied to her though. Khepfi had admitted to her from the start that she had broken one of the rules of the “game of destiny ” , by giving her the death note early in order to prevent her true happiness being stolen away from her. (misa was still slightly confused at what the “The Game of Destiny” was really all about, but whatever).
She wondered if the other Shinigami out there had been in similar situations where they could had chosen to do the same thing Khepfi had done for her, but didn’t. Maybe this other person had suffered so much, and now he/she resented what the Shinigami didn’t do for him/her because they were following the rules?
That did make sense somewhat. Although she was dubious on the part of being there even being a “True god Kira”, the rest of it had felt familiar to her. She had the strangest feeling that if situations had been different, she would had been the one who did the broadcast. Because of this, she couldn’t help but have an lasting impression of how passionately this Kira spoke about the purification of the world.
She had experienced the fear and the sense of powerlessness that everyone trapped in the middle of any occurring crime scene had felt. While she was being honest with herself, she knew that she would do anything to never feel that way again. So she understood why some people would even go far as to support the Kira who had been killing off all the criminals. They clung on to the hopes that they would never go though something like that again. And they certainly didn’t care that somebody out there was doing the killing for them in order to make this possible for them… whenever that happened in a prison’s execution room, or at the hands of kira, they didn’t care.
After all…. In the end there was still the death penalty for the more serious, hardened criminals after an court trial anyway. So did it even make any difference that they died by the death note instead of by the electric chair or by lethal injection? In the end, they died anyway.
At least, that’s what Misa assumed that the logic of the Kira supporters would be like.
That was an area that seemed somewhat morally gray to her. The issue of even supporting the Kiras out there…It felt wrong but at the same time it also felt right somewhat. It was just plain confusing!
Also, she still had her own family to think about…that was what held her back. If she was caught killing criminals en masse, then her family would certainly be in danger once it was all public. After all, the anti-kira people out there might be just overzealous enough to harm her family if they discovered that…. They treated the kira supporters out there pretty badly as it was… she couldn’t imagine what they would do to an actual Kira, or the Kiras’ families.
Above all else… she considered her own family more important than anything else… even the other Kiras themselves.
If it was for the sake of her own family’s safety, she would kill. But should she ever be taking sides at all in this Kira war? Which side was the safest in terms of the safety of her family? Or was it safe to just remain neutral?
Misa sighed to herself. All this thinking was honestly too much for her! It was also depressing her somewhat… There was a large part of her who screamed out that she didn’t want to do this…. That she just wanted to be a normal girl. This was the second reason why she thought twice about jumping into the fray as one of the active Kiras.
She wondered if she had lost everything she cared for, would she even consider doing that without even a second thought? To kill all criminals into the thousands, to completely support the Kiras without even thinking about whenever it was right or wrong? That was just too depressing for words.
~~~
Khepfi was completely bored, waiting for Misa to make her own move. While she didn’t exactly hate boredom itself, she couldn’t still help but be impatient. It was the waiting part that she hated the most… as seeing she was the sort who liked to do things right away, to be more of an active role rather than just sitting back and watching things happen. This was the only reason why she had given Misa the death note right away, instead of just waiting until the destined moment to keep up with the “canon universe.”
She liked to think that she the sort who created her own entertainment instead of depending on others to entertain her, and being more independent that way… instead of being an lazy Shinigami like many others. This was what made her special than others, in her own mind. She didn’t care if her pro-active side was seen as uncool or ridiculous by the other shinigami in that regard.
She wondered if Misa’s thought processes were more entertaining, as seeing she had the ability to look into misa’s mind thanks to the bonds of the Death Note. She could even talk telepathically to her if she wished, although she didn’t because she still remembered how uneasy humans regarding the whole telepathic thing.
She then peered into Misa’s mind, and mentally frowned when she discovered that this whole time Misa had been just brooding and worrying over something silly as morals and about the safety of her family.
‘Hah, what a bore…’ Khepfi sighed to herself. What was with those humans, seriously? They were always fussing over silly things like that. And they were always planning way too much before actually doing anything! Whatever the hell was wrong with just doing things at the spur of the moment like she did??
She did find something interesting though…. Misa had considered going after the kiras first before they found her. She really liked that idea… now all she had to do was provoke Misa into doing something like that.
“What are you doing just sitting around brooding? Aren’t you worried about The kira out there?” Khepfi brought the topic up.
Misa looked reproachful at this. “Of course I am!”
“ Well, aren’t you going to at least attempt to find them before they find you? What if they kill you and your family? Then everything I’ve done, and what you’ve done, would be in vain then. ” Khepfi wondered.
Misa looked downcast, as she murmured: “ I know that. That’s just… I don’t know how to go about it without exposing myself too much. I have to find some way to hide my identity as I do it. After all, if they manage to spot me as I’m hunting for them, then they’ll know who I am. And if they know who I am, then they can easily go after my family.”
Khepfi thought about this for a few seconds, and then said: “Shinigami and Death note users need the full view of people’s faces to get their names and lifespans. So side views and partial views won’t work for that purpose. Anything that blocks your face has the same effect. So therefore large, blocky black sunglasses and other objects that blocks the face from view also seems to block any Death Note users from finding out the identities of the said people. So what if you wore an disguise?? ”
Misa brightened up at this suggestion. She squealed: “Oh, that’s awesome! That’s totally cloak and dagger stuff! I can definitely work with that. ” She then grew solemn as something else occurred to her. “But… how do I know where to look for the Kiras? It’s like I just can’t exactly travel all of the whole world and look at thousands of people’s names and lifespans …. That would take way too long!”
Khepfi nodded at this. She had to admit that humans were rather limited in that respect. However…
“ Well… just remember… if you want to be more than just a mere pawn but instead be a true formidable player as you wished, you just can’t sit around brooding. I’m sure you’ll come up with something as you plan on how to get the Kiras to expose themselves to you without exposing yourself in return. ” Khepfi replied, and with that she left Misa alone to her thoughts.
~~~~
It turned out that things were going well in Misa’s favor after all… because apparently the police, after two days of going over the stuff that Second Kira sent to Sakura TV, allowed for the Sakura TV staff to read from the list that the second Kira induced along side the tapes. The list had mentioned places to meet in a very innocent way… it was read as some sort of diary of an businessman, which lead Misa to wonder if it might be a man after all. The places mentioned in the diary page was:
Ameyoko on Wednesdays when most students or other people would be working. There wouldn’t be as much people to deal with as opposed to on the weekends. However there would still be enough people around so that anybody wouldn’t seem too out of place.
Shinjuku sanchome - shinjuku station east of the shopping ,dining, business and entertainment district on Fridays.
And last of all, the famous Shinjuku Gyoen park on Mondays, where it was known for the best cherry blossom viewing parties. Since the trees were already past their blooming phrase, and the sakura petals were slowly falling off the trees now, there wasn’t that many people there save for a few people who went there for relaxation.
There weren’t any hours or certain dates mentioned, so it looked like Misa would have to try to make her days free on those days so that she could go to those places for the whole day each week until she found somebody.
~~~~~
The three days out of the weeks, Misa visited the listed locations at different hours, hoping to find at least one interesting person.
She did well in disusing herself or at least she liked to think so. Misa had been a black-haired schoolgirl, an ordinary-looking office lady with completely thick rimmed glasses, a sickly brown-haired girl with an flu mask on, a red-haired punk girl carrying an guitar, and then a black-haired schoolgirl again but with a different school uniform this time. She even went to the trouble of buying eye contacts so that her eyes would be different colors, and even applied her makeup heavily so that her face looked altered at times.
She rotated the disguises around certain days, so that nobody would be able to regonize her from the last weeks that she had been visiting the places.
Khepfi was completely amazed at how she could transform into different people and just blend into the background using simple articles like wigs and the like. She had even said that she couldn’t see Misa’s name or lifespan at all when she became like this, much to Misa’s delight.
However, Khepfi had been unsightly uncooperative in that she said that she wouldn’t tell Misa if she also saw any Shinigami following somebody in the crowds if the Kiras happened to be wearing disguises too. She had said something to the effect of: “You just take care of the humans in your way. It’s my duty to deal with other Shinigami. It’s all part of the game, after all. ”
Misa had been slightly irate at this part… but despite this, she still found some sort of strange thrill doing this sort of stuff. After all… this was compete cloak and dagger stuff… the sort of thing one would usually only see in the movies. It was somewhat fun to imagine that she was some sort of sexy spy or something.
In the second week in, she had finally spotted somebody interesting, after finally trying to visit every said spot at different hours.
She had sighted him at all of the locations as listed on the Kira broadcasts… and at first she thought this young man had a rather strange name…Moon Yagami? But then she realized that was just how his name in Kanji was usually written… it was actually written as the “Tsuki” character since how that was also the same character used for the word “Light”.
So his true name was Light Yagami.
She couldn’t help but think this was a rather nice name…. It was a name that just oozed purity and goodness.
The unusual thing about him, though, had been his lifespan. That was what had really grabbed her attention… otherwise she wouldn’t had given him a second look.
Misa had asked Khepfi if other death note users’ lifespans were supposed to display like that, or be completely void from ever appearing at all like how she saw the lack of a lifespan above her own head. Khepfi said that the Zero with the slash though it simply meant that the young man was immortal thanks to some shinigami’s influence, although that could end for him at any time should he fall out of the Shinigami’s favor.
It was also possible, Khepfi couldn’t help but mysteriously mention in order to keep Misa wondering, that it could had also been caused by other beings out there. Since how once in a while occasionally other beings similar to the death gods came down to earth too. However this didn’t mean that he had to be an death note user, since how Misa could see his now infinite lifespan.
“You see, Misa…if he strays from the path that the Shinigami responsible for his new lifespan had paved for him, The Shinigami will then take away his immortality. Then he’ll be just a normal human like everyone else…” Khepfi explained, “then he will die from heart attacks, and anything else that life can throw at him. But as long as he doesn’t stray from the path laid out for him…. He can survive any written attacks from an death note user and walk away to tell the tale. However, this doesn’t mean that he can’t be critically wounded by physical attacks and be permanently disabled from the physical attacks for the rest of his life. He is still only human after all. I tell you this part just in case you wanted a way to get him out of the way. That aside, you could say he is destined for things just like you are. In fact I strongly suspect that he’s one of the strongest pawns in this game of destiny.”
“Ohhh, sounds interesting! Now I just have to get to know this man better! ” Misa giggled. “Of course… I guess I’ll have to do some checking on him first, just to make sure he isn’t too dangerous to approach. ”
~~~~~~~
Misa was fully impressed when she had managed to bring up every information about Light Yagami on the internet. No wonder why Khepfi had felt that he might be a powerful pawn or something like that. This guy had everything– Good looks, an excellent mind, had an good family life… and on top of everything… his father was an policeman and he was reported to have helped out on some police cases himself!
So that was why she had kept on seeing his face pop up at all of the locations listed by the Kira on TV…. He was most likely investigating the Kira Case… trying to find anybody suspicious at those places.
She then gasped out loud as an thought occurred to her. Light’s name had ‘L’ as the first letter… what if he was actually the famous detective “L”?? That would certainly make sense! After all, this L was rumored to be a rather young man who was an huge prodigy…. And Light fit that bill.
“ How cool…. ” Misa breathed, in awe of that thought. Her heart couldn’t help but beat slightly at the thought of meeting this young man personally, and imagined him admitting to her after she had gained his trust, that he was truly L.
And if He was L, then that would mean that he literally had the world’s information at his fingertips… which means that he could make her search for the other Kiras quite easier to deal with. And even if he wasn’t L… the fact that he was the son of an policeman and clearly helped out in police cases was still useful anyway.
Misa giggled, and then got up to make a victory pose at the Shinigami watching her. “ Okay then! Misa-Misa shall use her charms to trap that hunky guy and have him help Misa! ”
The amused Shinigami applauded as if she was watching an play. Misa took an bow, and made exgerated gestures like blowing a kiss, as she murmured. “ Thank you so much! Stay tuned for the next act!”
The pair then laughed together afterwards.
Now, this was way better than moping around, in Khepfi’s opinion.
~~~~~~~~~
Misa found him again, this time at Shinjuku Gyoen. Misa couldn’t help but think this was probably the best place to use her charms… as seeing even though the Cherry blossoms had waned somewhat, it was still a very romantic place to be.
Misa was wearing her schoolgirl disguise again, because she still didn’t want to risk the possblity that she would get spotted by enemy kiras while she was making her move.
She took an deep breath, gathering all of her courage before she moved in.
“ Hey there! Say, do you mind if I sit next to you? ” Misa used her best charming behavior as she asked Light Yagami.
Light didn’t seem to mind at all.
Misa then sat down, taking note of Light’s face. Now that she saw him up close, he was even more handsome than she realized! It almost took her breath away and caused her heart to beat faster.
The weird thing was, now that she was in close proximity with him, she started to have the most bizarre feeling that this man was very familiar to him. But that was totally crazy.
Not forgetting what she was there for… she then asked in what she hoped was an innocent, casual way: “you know… I’ve been seeing you around a lot lately! You seem to be waiting for somebody or something. Is it a special person you’re waiting for?”
Light seemed to smirk slightly at this. “ Well… Yeah, I guess you could say it’s a very special person I’m trying to find, alright.”
“Oooh. ” Misa giggled, posturing in what she hoped was an very sexy, flirtatious manner. “ Whoever she is, she’s certainly a very lucky girl!”
Light just shrugged and nodded at this, not saying anything else. Apparently her flirting seemed to have no effect at all, much to Misa’s dismay. Normally her charms worked right away. She then wondered what else she could say without seeming suspicious.
Light then frowned, as he seemed to be inspecting Misa’s appearance. Finally, Light asked: “I hate to ask you this… but why are you wearing an wig and such thick, dark sunglasses? ”
Misa mentally smirked. Only an super intelligent person would had noticed. He was the real thing, alright.
Outward, Misa pretended to be flustered. “Ooh… you noticed so easily? Damn, I knew I should had gotten a better wig instead of those cheap plasticky ones! ”
That should get him interested, and lure him into starting a full conversation with her.
It seemed to work, as Light turned his body around on the beach so that he could face her better. He then spoke in what seemed to be a light-hearted manner. “You know, if I didn’t know better I’d say you were a very suspicious person who needed to be reported to the authorities!” He joked, “ What are you… some sort of celebrity hiding from the public media?”
As seeing that wasn’t to far from the truth, Misa then let out an slightly exaggerated gasp. “Wow! How did you guess that?? ”
Light couldn’t help but be skeptical. “I was right? But I was actually joking.”
Misa then pouted prettily, as seeing she couldn’t help but feel slightly insulted at Light’s reaction. “I’ll have you know that I’ve actually became a very popular idol recently! I’m wearing this wig and sunglasses to avoid being mobbed by my fans. ”
Light nodded slightly. “ Well, I have to admit that you do look pretty enough to be an celebrity or something. So what was it that you do exactly in the media business that got you popular enough to be mobbed by fans? Just curious. ”
Finally! This was her moment to shine… and hopefully in the process she would fully impress Light. She’d have some help from Khepfi too, as they had rehearsed some bits to fool Light into being their pawn.
Misa pretended to be to be modest. “Well… I don’t do much actually. I just model clothes, and recently I became an pop idol singer. ”
Light made an noise that incitcated that he didn’t think that sort of career was so bad after all. “Hmm, I see. Very cool, even though I usually don’t keep track of the fashion magazines or the latest songs. So tell me, why are somebody famous like you here? Surely you know it isn’t safe here, what with the Kira on TV listing this place as one of the meeting spots.” he asked.
Misa smiled at this. She then wondered, “Tell me, do you believe in the supernatural? ”
Light snorted at this. “ By the supernatural, you mean ghosts and things like that? Nah, not really. I tend to believe that there are rational explanations for everything. If there are no solid evidence, then it doesn’t exist. ”
Misa sighed inward at this. So Light was an cynic… oh well, that was to be expected from an policeman’s son, she supposed. This meant that she’d have to work harder.
Misa then sighed loudly. “Oh, I had you pegged as an non-believer, alright. Still, I suppose I can tell you why I’m here. The reason why I’m here is because of a dream I had. You see… the dream showed me that I had an destiny in helping catching The kiras, and you were in it too as well. In the dream, you were to become my ally and together we’d stop Kira.”
Light stiffened in surprise for a second there, but seemed to relax as he raised one disbelieving eyebrow. “ You’re telling me that you’re an psychic? ”
Misa smirked. “ You said it, not me. However, you’re right. ”
Light then laughed. “Oh wow. And you expect me to just believe you? How do I know you’re just one of those delusional nutcases who thinks that they’re a real celebrity and that they have supernatural powers?? I have an suggestion for you… if you’re not on medication right now you should look into putting yourself on medication and see a shrink.”
Misa frowned. Light might be a pretty boy, but now that she was getting to know him he was a little bit of an callous jerk.
“ Haha, very funny! You know you don’t have to be a compete jerk about it. I was just being honest with you, more or less. ”
“Sorry alright… I just couldn’t resist making that joke. ” Light remarked, not really sounding like he was sorry at all, much less like he had been joking.
Misa then smirked evilly, wanting to humble Light a little bit. “Hey… how about I make a bet with you? I’ll prove to you that I have psychic powers!”
Light frowned, looking around. “ I don’t have time for bets, and I’m actually supposed to be on the outlook for somebody here. Besides, I don’t like childish games.”
Misa became smug at this part, as she replied: “ well… then in that case, I might be more helpful to you than you realize. Besides, don’t you think it’s very unfair to reject me before you hear me out? ”
Light stared at her for a while, and then sighed. “ Very well. What’s the bet? ”
Misa then grinned. “If I guess correctly about your past, your full name, and most importantly, why you’re here… then you have to date me and be my boyfriend! But if I’m wrong… then I’ll leave you alone and never bother you again. ”
Light frowned again, as he seemed to be looking at misa more suspiciously again. He didn’t answer for a few seconds, as seeing he seemed to be listening to his inner voice as he thought things over.
He then laughed. “ Very well. What have I got to lose? Okay, go ahead. ”
Misa practically made an noise akin to “ squee! ” then, and then she asked for Light to give her one of his hands so that misa could hold on to it and focus better.
Light humored her, and so Misa got on to work on her phony psychic act. Khepfi then started speaking into Misa’s ear, what she had learned of Light…. All the random facts about him, etc. Khepfi had followed Light around the previous day before to study light, before reporting back to Misa. However, in typical fashion Khepfi wouldn’t say for sure whenever Light was really “L” like Misa had asked her to… apparently she thought it would be more fun if Misa found out on her own!
Misa closed her eyes for a few moments, and then took a deep breath before speaking. She opened her eyes and looked up at light. “ You’re a very serious person who believes strongly in Justice, and prefers to work opposed to going out with friends. You don’t date much, as seeing you aren’t a very shallow person… you like your actives to be meaningful. So as an result you tend to be more picky about the women you date, demanding a good personality or intellect to keep you interested. As an result, you don’t find much in the way of soul mates. I also sense that you are looking into working law enforcement as an lawyer, a policeman and or some other similar job. Am I right so far? ”
Light begrudgingly admitted that was some very impressive profiling right there, but he then stated that could be easily explained by psychology alone. A person skilled in reading other people by their body language could had gotten all that out of somebody, he said.
Misa smiled coyly. “Well… your name, and why you’re here is more harder to ascertain, wouldn’t you say? I wonder how you would explain that then. Now, let me focus… ”
She closed her eyes again. She then spoke. “ Hmmm. I see a image coming to my mind… a written name. The ‘Moon’ character in Kanji. And next to it…The kanji words close together, God and Night. the surname Ya…ga..mi. Moon Yagami? ” Misa opened her eyes, pretending to be puzzled like she had been the first time when she saw his name.
Light looked slightly surprised, but also extremely uneasy.
Misa’s face brightened up, pretending to only have gotten it. “ Aha! Light! That’s your name…. The moon character can be used for the word light. Hmm. I must say, you’ve got a very pretty but a unusual name, Light Yagami. ”
Light didn’t respond to this at all, as seeing he was now looking at Misa strangely… something akin to strong suspicion.
As seeing Light’s hand was still in Misa’s own hands, she started massaging it slightly. She closed her eyes again.
“ Hmm. This special person you’re looking for… is not one person, but many. For some reason, the numbers two to four comes to mind? And they’re special to you in the most negative sense possible. You don’t see them as friends or allies… but as dangerous enemies. Currently you’re on a mission to stop them from whatever it is that they’re doing. ”
Light started laughing. “Okay, that was pretty unusual how you came up with my name… but surely there has to be some sort of explanation. Is this something you knew about beforehand?? Come on, tell me!”
Misa then clapped her hands. “ So, I’m right after all?? Oh, this is great… it ends up that we’re on a pretty similar path together, then! After all, we have the same mission… ”
“What mission would this be? Care to be more exact in your little fortunetelling? ” Light asked, almost sasrastic.
“ The mission to stop the Kiras, of course. Haven’t you been listening to me before?” Misa stated, rather bluntly.
his honey brown eyes were just staring at her in mild shock. “ You’re serious about this kira thing? ”
Misa let out an girlish giggle. “That got your attention, eh? Considering that I’ve been right about you so far, I doubt that your true mission is anything but stopping the Kiras. I’ll tell you something… ”
Misa then scooted closer to Light, wrapping her arm around Light’s neck. Their face nearly touching, Misa whispered: “ As you know, I had an dream about us stopping the kiras. But, I was afraid of the kiras finding out about my abilities and killing me… or that even though you could be my ally, that you could also be dangerous. This was the true reason why I wore the wig and sunglasses. If I kept my face hidden, I knew they wouldn’t be able to find out my real name! And this way I could keep myself hidden from you until I was sure you were safe. Hehe… I never imagined that my ally would turn out to be such an handsome man!”
Light looked puzzled, as he uncomfortably tried to pry himself from Misa’s grip, “ If what you’re telling me is true… then you’re putting a lot of trust in a compete stranger like me. How do you even know if I’m one of the Kiras or not? What if I kill you?”
Misa giggled again. “Oh, don’t worry. You see… there’s ways to tell apart an kira from an regular person… and well….I’ve used all of those ways to test you in the whole time we’ve been talking…. And that’s how I know you’re not one of them. ”
Light blinked at this. “ So, how do you tell somebody’s an kira? ”
Misa smirked. “ let’s save that part for later, shall we?? After all… I won the bet, and now you have to be my boyfriend! We’ll have plenty of time to talk on our dates and while we work together to catch the Kiras.”
Light’s expression indicated that he had forgotten about that somewhat due to being so focused on the “kira ” part rather than the rest of it. Finally prying Misa off him, he then tried to fight the bet by feebly saying: “Just like that? But I don’t even know your name! ”
“ The name’s Misa! Misa-Misa is very pleased to meet you and have you as my new boyfriend!” Misa giggled.
Light groaned slightly at this.
Misa ignored her new “ boyfriend ” as she answered the ring of her cellphone.
“Hold on. ” misa replied as she snapped open her cellphone and started speaking into it. “Moshi Moshi! Who is this? “
She listened to somebody on the other end, and then groaned: “What, now? I was just in the middle of something interesting!……oh very well Misa-Misa will be there soon as she can be!”
She then smiled apologetically. “I’m so sorry! Business calls! But if you want to see Misa again, you can just see Misa on TV soon on the NHK TV station! Misa will be on around 8pm! And don’t worry about meeting up with me…. I’m sure we can find each other now that we know who the other one is! ”
With that she ran off before Light could even respond.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Misa then muttered to Khepfi as the Shinigami followed, “ I just hope that was enough for him to keep in contact with me! You know, he didn’t look entirely convinced… looks like we might have to do some more tricks for him, okay? Showing off my so-called teleketsic abilities would convince him for good, I think. ”
Khepfi nodded. “ Just remember, I want some alive meat in return for helping you perform. Eating dead meat is rather good, but it still doesn’t give me the extra lifespans I need. After all, dead things can’t give me anything what it already lost to start with. Something like an alive pig would be nice… since how their lifespans are the closet to humans in longevity…”
‘Not to mention they’re the closest thing to the human flavor I can get…’ the shinigami mentally added.
Misa nodded. “okay then!”

Argh, I had such a difficult time writing this chapter… the characters weren’t cooperating at all. I had to actually rewrite this chapter TWICE. It actually originally started off as an Light chapter, but this morphed into an Misa chapter. ^^;; since it was the only way I could explain how Misa would manage to meet up again, and why she would want him to be her boyfriend, since how she lost her original reason…
But Light and L’s chapter will be next, I promise~! Stuff that I couldn’t put into this chapter will be put into next chapter instead.
I also did some research for this chapter– looking up maps of the locations that was shown in the live action Death Note movies, locations that was mentioned in the Death Note anime and manga. This way I could look up other places that never got mentioned, that the characters were most likely to visit due to their promixty to the other locations that they had been at before. I did this to inject some fresh scenery into my story, so to speak. =P
I learned a few interesting facts about the locations that was mentioned in Death note while I did this. For example, the TV station Kiyomi Takada worked at, by the name of NHN, seemed to be based on the NHK TV station in real life. And some of the live action death note movie scenes were filmed at this same location. The NHK TV station actually airs TV shows directed at not only Japanese, but for English speakers too and were apparently created for the sole purpose of bringing in news from overseas, and also to broadcast news from japan overseas….as a way to keep contact with the whole world. It’s also very open to the public, as seeing they sometimes gives tours to the public to show others how TV are being made… sometimes as TV shows are being filmed live. In a way, this gave me new insight in why Mikami choose Kiyomi Takada as an spokewoman. She wasn’t just strong-willed and opinionated about why she thought Kira was right to do what he did…. But the fact that she belonged to an TV station that had such a strong connection to the whole world like that would make it easier to broadcast the message of kira to not only japan, but the rest of the world.
For this reason I choose to have Misa appear on one of those international TV shows on NHN… and plus I didn’t want her to appear on an Sakura TV program… that was way too obvious. It was also a good way for me to get Takada into the picture without her having any previous connection to Kira.
Umm.. That’s all I have to say basically. ^^;; Review as always, lords and ladies! ^_~

I only have my spell check and my Grammar check to depend on in terms of looking for errors, but even then that's not perfect at all... so if you see some weird stuff, then sorry!

on with the story!
============================================================
~~~
Khepfi was completely bored, waiting for Misa to make her own move. While she didn’t exactly hate boredom itself, she couldn’t still help but be impatient. It was the waiting part that she hated the most… as seeing she was the sort who liked to do things right away, to be more of an active role rather than just sitting back and watching things happen. This was the only reason why she had given Misa the death note right away, instead of just waiting until the destined moment to keep up with the “canon universe.”
She liked to think that she the sort who created her own entertainment instead of depending on others to entertain her, and being more independent that way… instead of being an lazy Shinigami like many others. This was what made her special than others, in her own mind. She didn’t care if her pro-active side was seen as uncool or ridiculous by the other shinigami in that regard.
She wondered if Misa’s thought processes were more entertaining, as seeing she had the ability to look into misa’s mind thanks to the bonds of the Death Note. She could even talk telepathically to her if she wished, although she didn’t because she still remembered how uneasy humans regarding the whole telepathic thing.
She then peered into Misa’s mind, and mentally frowned when she discovered that this whole time Misa had been just brooding and worrying over something silly as morals and about the safety of her family.
‘Hah, what a bore…’ Khepfi sighed to herself. What was with those humans, seriously? They were always fussing over silly things like that. And they were always planning way too much before actually doing anything! Whatever the hell was wrong with just doing things at the spur of the moment like she did??
She did find something interesting though…. Misa had considered going after the kiras first before they found her. She really liked that idea… now all she had to do was provoke Misa into doing something like that.
“What are you doing just sitting around brooding? Aren’t you worried about The kira out there?” Khepfi brought the topic up.
Misa looked reproachful at this. “Of course I am!”
“ Well, aren’t you going to at least attempt to find them before they find you? What if they kill you and your family? Then everything I’ve done, and what you’ve done, would be in vain then. ” Khepfi wondered.
Misa looked downcast, as she murmured: “ I know that. That’s just… I don’t know how to go about it without exposing myself too much. I have to find some way to hide my identity as I do it. After all, if they manage to spot me as I’m hunting for them, then they’ll know who I am. And if they know who I am, then they can easily go after my family.”
Khepfi thought about this for a few seconds, and then said: “Shinigami and Death note users need the full view of people’s faces to get their names and lifespans. So side views and partial views won’t work for that purpose. Anything that blocks your face has the same effect. So therefore large, blocky black sunglasses and other objects that blocks the face from view also seems to block any Death Note users from finding out the identities of the said people. So what if you wore an disguise?? ”
Misa brightened up at this suggestion. She squealed: “Oh, that’s awesome! That’s totally cloak and dagger stuff! I can definitely work with that. ” She then grew solemn as something else occurred to her. “But… how do I know where to look for the Kiras? It’s like I just can’t exactly travel all of the whole world and look at thousands of people’s names and lifespans …. That would take way too long!”
Khepfi nodded at this. She had to admit that humans were rather limited in that respect. However…
“ Well… just remember… if you want to be more than just a mere pawn but instead be a true formidable player as you wished, you just can’t sit around brooding. I’m sure you’ll come up with something as you plan on how to get the Kiras to expose themselves to you without exposing yourself in return. ” Khepfi replied, and with that she left Misa alone to her thoughts.
~~~~
~~~~~
The three days out of the weeks, Misa visited the listed locations at different hours, hoping to find at least one interesting person.
She did well in disusing herself or at least she liked to think so. Misa had been a black-haired schoolgirl, an ordinary-looking office lady with completely thick rimmed glasses, a sickly brown-haired girl with an flu mask on, a red-haired punk girl carrying an guitar, and then a black-haired schoolgirl again but with a different school uniform this time. She even went to the trouble of buying eye contacts so that her eyes would be different colors, and even applied her makeup heavily so that her face looked altered at times.
She rotated the disguises around certain days, so that nobody would be able to regonize her from the last weeks that she had been visiting the places.
Khepfi was completely amazed at how she could transform into different people and just blend into the background using simple articles like wigs and the like. She had even said that she couldn’t see Misa’s name or lifespan at all when she became like this, much to Misa’s delight.
However, Khepfi had been unsightly uncooperative in that she said that she wouldn’t tell Misa if she also saw any Shinigami following somebody in the crowds if the Kiras happened to be wearing disguises too. She had said something to the effect of: “You just take care of the humans in your way. It’s my duty to deal with other Shinigami. It’s all part of the game, after all. ”
Misa had been slightly irate at this part… but despite this, she still found some sort of strange thrill doing this sort of stuff. After all… this was compete cloak and dagger stuff… the sort of thing one would usually only see in the movies. It was somewhat fun to imagine that she was some sort of sexy spy or something.
In the second week in, she had finally spotted somebody interesting, after finally trying to visit every said spot at different hours.
She had sighted him at all of the locations as listed on the Kira broadcasts… and at first she thought this young man had a rather strange name…Moon Yagami? But then she realized that was just how his name in Kanji was usually written… it was actually written as the “Tsuki” character since how that was also the same character used for the word “Light”.
So his true name was Light Yagami.
She couldn’t help but think this was a rather nice name…. It was a name that just oozed purity and goodness.
The unusual thing about him, though, had been his lifespan. That was what had really grabbed her attention… otherwise she wouldn’t had given him a second look.
Misa had asked Khepfi if other death note users’ lifespans were supposed to display like that, or be completely void from ever appearing at all like how she saw the lack of a lifespan above her own head. Khepfi said that the Zero with the slash though it simply meant that the young man was immortal thanks to some shinigami’s influence, although that could end for him at any time should he fall out of the Shinigami’s favor.
It was also possible, Khepfi couldn’t help but mysteriously mention in order to keep Misa wondering, that it could had also been caused by other beings out there. Since how once in a while occasionally other beings similar to the death gods came down to earth too. However this didn’t mean that he had to be an death note user, since how Misa could see his now infinite lifespan.
“You see, Misa…if he strays from the path that the Shinigami responsible for his new lifespan had paved for him, The Shinigami will then take away his immortality. Then he’ll be just a normal human like everyone else…” Khepfi explained, “then he will die from heart attacks, and anything else that life can throw at him. But as long as he doesn’t stray from the path laid out for him…. He can survive any written attacks from an death note user and walk away to tell the tale. However, this doesn’t mean that he can’t be critically wounded by physical attacks and be permanently disabled from the physical attacks for the rest of his life. He is still only human after all. I tell you this part just in case you wanted a way to get him out of the way. That aside, you could say he is destined for things just like you are. In fact I strongly suspect that he’s one of the strongest pawns in this game of destiny.”
“Ohhh, sounds interesting! Now I just have to get to know this man better! ” Misa giggled. “Of course… I guess I’ll have to do some checking on him first, just to make sure he isn’t too dangerous to approach. ”
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~
Misa found him again, this time at Shinjuku Gyoen. Misa couldn’t help but think this was probably the best place to use her charms… as seeing even though the Cherry blossoms had waned somewhat, it was still a very romantic place to be.
Misa was wearing her schoolgirl disguise again, because she still didn’t want to risk the possblity that she would get spotted by enemy kiras while she was making her move.
She took an deep breath, gathering all of her courage before she moved in.
“ Hey there! Say, do you mind if I sit next to you? ” Misa used her best charming behavior as she asked Light Yagami.
Light didn’t seem to mind at all.
Misa then sat down, taking note of Light’s face. Now that she saw him up close, he was even more handsome than she realized! It almost took her breath away and caused her heart to beat faster.
The weird thing was, now that she was in close proximity with him, she started to have the most bizarre feeling that this man was very familiar to him. But that was totally crazy.
Not forgetting what she was there for… she then asked in what she hoped was an innocent, casual way: “you know… I’ve been seeing you around a lot lately! You seem to be waiting for somebody or something. Is it a special person you’re waiting for?”
Light seemed to smirk slightly at this. “ Well… Yeah, I guess you could say it’s a very special person I’m trying to find, alright.”
“Oooh. ” Misa giggled, posturing in what she hoped was an very sexy, flirtatious manner. “ Whoever she is, she’s certainly a very lucky girl!”
Light just shrugged and nodded at this, not saying anything else. Apparently her flirting seemed to have no effect at all, much to Misa’s dismay. Normally her charms worked right away. She then wondered what else she could say without seeming suspicious.
Light then frowned, as he seemed to be inspecting Misa’s appearance. Finally, Light asked: “I hate to ask you this… but why are you wearing an wig and such thick, dark sunglasses? ”
Misa mentally smirked. Only an super intelligent person would had noticed. He was the real thing, alright.
Outward, Misa pretended to be flustered. “Ooh… you noticed so easily? Damn, I knew I should had gotten a better wig instead of those cheap plasticky ones! ”
That should get him interested, and lure him into starting a full conversation with her.
It seemed to work, as Light turned his body around on the beach so that he could face her better. He then spoke in what seemed to be a light-hearted manner. “You know, if I didn’t know better I’d say you were a very suspicious person who needed to be reported to the authorities!” He joked, “ What are you… some sort of celebrity hiding from the public media?”
As seeing that wasn’t to far from the truth, Misa then let out an slightly exaggerated gasp. “Wow! How did you guess that?? ”
Light couldn’t help but be skeptical. “I was right? But I was actually joking.”
Misa then pouted prettily, as seeing she couldn’t help but feel slightly insulted at Light’s reaction. “I’ll have you know that I’ve actually became a very popular idol recently! I’m wearing this wig and sunglasses to avoid being mobbed by my fans. ”
Light nodded slightly. “ Well, I have to admit that you do look pretty enough to be an celebrity or something. So what was it that you do exactly in the media business that got you popular enough to be mobbed by fans? Just curious. ”
Finally! This was her moment to shine… and hopefully in the process she would fully impress Light. She’d have some help from Khepfi too, as they had rehearsed some bits to fool Light into being their pawn.
Misa pretended to be to be modest. “Well… I don’t do much actually. I just model clothes, and recently I became an pop idol singer. ”
Light made an noise that incitcated that he didn’t think that sort of career was so bad after all. “Hmm, I see. Very cool, even though I usually don’t keep track of the fashion magazines or the latest songs. So tell me, why are somebody famous like you here? Surely you know it isn’t safe here, what with the Kira on TV listing this place as one of the meeting spots.” he asked.
Misa smiled at this. She then wondered, “Tell me, do you believe in the supernatural? ”
Light snorted at this. “ By the supernatural, you mean ghosts and things like that? Nah, not really. I tend to believe that there are rational explanations for everything. If there are no solid evidence, then it doesn’t exist. ”
Misa sighed inward at this. So Light was an cynic… oh well, that was to be expected from an policeman’s son, she supposed. This meant that she’d have to work harder.
Misa then sighed loudly. “Oh, I had you pegged as an non-believer, alright. Still, I suppose I can tell you why I’m here. The reason why I’m here is because of a dream I had. You see… the dream showed me that I had an destiny in helping catching The kiras, and you were in it too as well. In the dream, you were to become my ally and together we’d stop Kira.”
Light stiffened in surprise for a second there, but seemed to relax as he raised one disbelieving eyebrow. “ You’re telling me that you’re an psychic? ”
Misa smirked. “ You said it, not me. However, you’re right. ”
Light then laughed. “Oh wow. And you expect me to just believe you? How do I know you’re just one of those delusional nutcases who thinks that they’re a real celebrity and that they have supernatural powers?? I have an suggestion for you… if you’re not on medication right now you should look into putting yourself on medication and see a shrink.”
Misa frowned. Light might be a pretty boy, but now that she was getting to know him he was a little bit of an callous jerk.
“ Haha, very funny! You know you don’t have to be a compete jerk about it. I was just being honest with you, more or less. ”
“Sorry alright… I just couldn’t resist making that joke. ” Light remarked, not really sounding like he was sorry at all, much less like he had been joking.
Misa then smirked evilly, wanting to humble Light a little bit. “Hey… how about I make a bet with you? I’ll prove to you that I have psychic powers!”
Light frowned, looking around. “ I don’t have time for bets, and I’m actually supposed to be on the outlook for somebody here. Besides, I don’t like childish games.”
Misa became smug at this part, as she replied: “ well… then in that case, I might be more helpful to you than you realize. Besides, don’t you think it’s very unfair to reject me before you hear me out? ”
Light stared at her for a while, and then sighed. “ Very well. What’s the bet? ”
Misa then grinned. “If I guess correctly about your past, your full name, and most importantly, why you’re here… then you have to date me and be my boyfriend! But if I’m wrong… then I’ll leave you alone and never bother you again. ”
Light frowned again, as he seemed to be looking at misa more suspiciously again. He didn’t answer for a few seconds, as seeing he seemed to be listening to his inner voice as he thought things over.
He then laughed. “ Very well. What have I got to lose? Okay, go ahead. ”
Misa practically made an noise akin to “ squee! ” then, and then she asked for Light to give her one of his hands so that misa could hold on to it and focus better.
Light humored her, and so Misa got on to work on her phony psychic act. Khepfi then started speaking into Misa’s ear, what she had learned of Light…. All the random facts about him, etc. Khepfi had followed Light around the previous day before to study light, before reporting back to Misa. However, in typical fashion Khepfi wouldn’t say for sure whenever Light was really “L” like Misa had asked her to… apparently she thought it would be more fun if Misa found out on her own!
Misa closed her eyes for a few moments, and then took a deep breath before speaking. She opened her eyes and looked up at light. “ You’re a very serious person who believes strongly in Justice, and prefers to work opposed to going out with friends. You don’t date much, as seeing you aren’t a very shallow person… you like your actives to be meaningful. So as an result you tend to be more picky about the women you date, demanding a good personality or intellect to keep you interested. As an result, you don’t find much in the way of soul mates. I also sense that you are looking into working law enforcement as an lawyer, a policeman and or some other similar job. Am I right so far? ”
Light begrudgingly admitted that was some very impressive profiling right there, but he then stated that could be easily explained by psychology alone. A person skilled in reading other people by their body language could had gotten all that out of somebody, he said.
Misa smiled coyly. “Well… your name, and why you’re here is more harder to ascertain, wouldn’t you say? I wonder how you would explain that then. Now, let me focus… ”
She closed her eyes again. She then spoke. “ Hmmm. I see a image coming to my mind… a written name. The ‘Moon’ character in Kanji. And next to it…The kanji words close together, God and Night. the surname Ya…ga..mi. Moon Yagami? ” Misa opened her eyes, pretending to be puzzled like she had been the first time when she saw his name.
Light looked slightly surprised, but also extremely uneasy.
Misa’s face brightened up, pretending to only have gotten it. “ Aha! Light! That’s your name…. The moon character can be used for the word light. Hmm. I must say, you’ve got a very pretty but a unusual name, Light Yagami. ”
Light didn’t respond to this at all, as seeing he was now looking at Misa strangely… something akin to strong suspicion.
As seeing Light’s hand was still in Misa’s own hands, she started massaging it slightly. She closed her eyes again.
“ Hmm. This special person you’re looking for… is not one person, but many. For some reason, the numbers two to four comes to mind? And they’re special to you in the most negative sense possible. You don’t see them as friends or allies… but as dangerous enemies. Currently you’re on a mission to stop them from whatever it is that they’re doing. ”
Light started laughing. “Okay, that was pretty unusual how you came up with my name… but surely there has to be some sort of explanation. Is this something you knew about beforehand?? Come on, tell me!”
Misa then clapped her hands. “ So, I’m right after all?? Oh, this is great… it ends up that we’re on a pretty similar path together, then! After all, we have the same mission… ”
“What mission would this be? Care to be more exact in your little fortunetelling? ” Light asked, almost sasrastic.
“ The mission to stop the Kiras, of course. Haven’t you been listening to me before?” Misa stated, rather bluntly.
his honey brown eyes were just staring at her in mild shock. “ You’re serious about this kira thing? ”
Misa let out an girlish giggle. “That got your attention, eh? Considering that I’ve been right about you so far, I doubt that your true mission is anything but stopping the Kiras. I’ll tell you something… ”
Misa then scooted closer to Light, wrapping her arm around Light’s neck. Their face nearly touching, Misa whispered: “ As you know, I had an dream about us stopping the kiras. But, I was afraid of the kiras finding out about my abilities and killing me… or that even though you could be my ally, that you could also be dangerous. This was the true reason why I wore the wig and sunglasses. If I kept my face hidden, I knew they wouldn’t be able to find out my real name! And this way I could keep myself hidden from you until I was sure you were safe. Hehe… I never imagined that my ally would turn out to be such an handsome man!”
Light looked puzzled, as he uncomfortably tried to pry himself from Misa’s grip, “ If what you’re telling me is true… then you’re putting a lot of trust in a compete stranger like me. How do you even know if I’m one of the Kiras or not? What if I kill you?”
Misa giggled again. “Oh, don’t worry. You see… there’s ways to tell apart an kira from an regular person… and well….I’ve used all of those ways to test you in the whole time we’ve been talking…. And that’s how I know you’re not one of them. ”
Light blinked at this. “ So, how do you tell somebody’s an kira? ”
Misa smirked. “ let’s save that part for later, shall we?? After all… I won the bet, and now you have to be my boyfriend! We’ll have plenty of time to talk on our dates and while we work together to catch the Kiras.”
Light’s expression indicated that he had forgotten about that somewhat due to being so focused on the “kira ” part rather than the rest of it. Finally prying Misa off him, he then tried to fight the bet by feebly saying: “Just like that? But I don’t even know your name! ”
“ The name’s Misa! Misa-Misa is very pleased to meet you and have you as my new boyfriend!” Misa giggled.
Light groaned slightly at this.
Misa ignored her new “ boyfriend ” as she answered the ring of her cellphone.
“Hold on. ” misa replied as she snapped open her cellphone and started speaking into it. “Moshi Moshi! Who is this? “
She listened to somebody on the other end, and then groaned: “What, now? I was just in the middle of something interesting!……oh very well Misa-Misa will be there soon as she can be!”
She then smiled apologetically. “I’m so sorry! Business calls! But if you want to see Misa again, you can just see Misa on TV soon on the NHK TV station! Misa will be on around 8pm! And don’t worry about meeting up with me…. I’m sure we can find each other now that we know who the other one is! ”
With that she ran off before Light could even respond.
Misa then muttered to Khepfi as the Shinigami followed, “ I just hope that was enough for him to keep in contact with me! You know, he didn’t look entirely convinced… looks like we might have to do some more tricks for him, okay? Showing off my so-called teleketsic abilities would convince him for good, I think. ”
Khepfi nodded. “ Just remember, I want some alive meat in return for helping you perform. Eating dead meat is rather good, but it still doesn’t give me the extra lifespans I need. After all, dead things can’t give me anything what it already lost to start with. Something like an alive pig would be nice… since how their lifespans are the closet to humans in longevity…”
‘Not to mention they’re the closest thing to the human flavor I can get…’ the shinigami mentally added.
Misa nodded. “okay then!”
==============================================================
Argh, I had such a difficult time writing this chapter… the characters weren’t cooperating at all. I had to actually rewrite this chapter TWICE. It actually originally started off as an Light chapter, but this morphed into an Misa chapter. ^^;; since it was the only way I could explain how Misa would manage to meet up again, and why she would want him to be her boyfriend, since how she lost her original reason…
But Light and L’s chapter will be next, I promise~! Stuff that I couldn’t put into this chapter will be put into next chapter instead.
I also did some research for this chapter– looking up maps of the locations that was shown in the live action Death Note movies, locations that was mentioned in the Death Note anime and manga. This way I could look up other places that never got mentioned, that the characters were most likely to visit due to their promixty to the other locations that they had been at before. I did this to inject some fresh scenery into my story, so to speak. =P
I learned a few interesting facts about the locations that was mentioned in Death note while I did this. For example, the TV station Kiyomi Takada worked at, by the name of NHN, seemed to be based on the NHK TV station in real life. And some of the live action death note movie scenes were filmed at this same location. The NHK TV station actually airs TV shows directed at not only Japanese, but for English speakers too and were apparently created for the sole purpose of bringing in news from overseas, and also to broadcast news from japan overseas….as a way to keep contact with the whole world. It’s also very open to the public, as seeing they sometimes gives tours to the public to show others how TV are being made… sometimes as TV shows are being filmed live. In a way, this gave me new insight in why Mikami choose Kiyomi Takada as an spokewoman. She wasn’t just strong-willed and opinionated about why she thought Kira was right to do what he did…. But the fact that she belonged to an TV station that had such a strong connection to the whole world like that would make it easier to broadcast the message of kira to not only japan, but the rest of the world.
For this reason I choose to have Misa appear on one of those international TV shows on NHN… and plus I didn’t want her to appear on an Sakura TV program… that was way too obvious. It was also a good way for me to get Takada into the picture without her having any previous connection to Kira.
Umm.. That’s all I have to say basically. ^^;; Review as always, lords and ladies! ^_~
