Shade knocked on the door.
After a short wait the door opened and Shade immediately noticed how it hung at an angle and how the woman had to rest it on her shoulder to keep it from falling down.
"Ms. Tamaki?"
"You must be Shade. Kenji has told me much about you!" She moved the door to rest agaist the wall. "Though I must say you look much younger than I expected." She stepped aside so that they could come in.
Shade and Gertrude were met with the sight of a delapidated den area. "You need more than lights, Ms. Tamaki" Shade mentioned.
"I know." She sighed. "Please call me Miku." She added as she surveyed the house. From where she stood she could see into the hall and the kitchen as well. "I purchased this home online. The seller showed me pictures. When I had arrived, I realised that I had spent the majority of my savings on this place. Another good portion moving out here. Until I save up enough, I can't really fix this place up. Or so I thought, when Kenji told me about you I almost didn't believe him!"
"And now you are not sure if you believe him." Gertrude mentioned.
"Well, you are young." Miku admitted.
"My grandfather on my mother's side made his fortune in construction. Mother learned about the business as she grew up, and worked until she had hurt her back. She made certain that I knew it too. My father..." The noticable distaste of the word was picked up on by Miku, but she decided not to ask, for now. "He was good at stuff, I sort of inherited that." Shade looked around. "I'll try to get this done cheap enough for you."
"How cheap?" Miyu asked with hopeful eyes.
"Got a phone?"
By the end of the day Shade, Gertrude and Broken had the frontroom gutted. No sheetrock, no insulation, old wiring was coiled by the door and they were bringing up the old carpet.
"Well look at that." Shade mentioned.
Broken amd Gertrude turned to see layers of cardboard over a hole in the floor. It had once been hidden under the carpet.
"It is amazing that no one fell through that."
Gertrude took her first good look at Shade. The girl was white with the dust from the sheetrock. She started to smile.
"Shade, you look like a ghost!" Broken said ad he caught on to why the kirlia was smiling.
"Boo." Shade said as she started to yawn. "Break time." She looked outside to see that night was coming on fast. "Bath, then dinner?"
"I hope the plumbing works." Gertrude mentioned.
To save water, Gertrude and Shade were in thr small space together. They had washed eachother's hair and talked about what their plans were once the house was done.
In reality, they were making little money off the work.
Miyu was not yet working at her new posting in the company she worked for. She simply had a part time job at a local department store.
They called it a night. Gertrude and Broken retiring to the bedroom at the end of the hall while Shade brushed her teeth. She let her eyes wander out the window and they caught on a magnificent sight.
A dark skinned woman stepping into her own shower in the house next door. Shade, toothbrush hanging from her mouth, watched as as the dark woman began to caress her own body.
Still wearing nothing, in a dark bathroom, and eyes just above the window sill, Shade had a perfect and secret view of the show the other woman was inadvertently giving her.
Shade mirrored the woman's movements. Stroke for stroke, Shade mimicked every move she could see. The small bit below the window sill and behind the frosted lower half of her unsuspecting neighbor's shower wall, Shade could only guess.
She rolled her nipples between her fingers and felt that place between her legs. She imagined the taller, dark skinned woman doing this for her. Slowly her eyes drifted shut and she felt the coil in her core tighten up. Then, with a burst of light and color behind her eyes she felt her own essence run down her legs.
She quickly wet a towel and wiped herself down. The woman was gone from view. Shade slipped on her pants and left the room.
She found Broken and Gertrude by the radio, both of them nodding along to the music that played. Except Gertrude turned a bit red when Shade entered. Shade was too tired to think about it and headed for the sleeping bags.

A knock on the door. Shade struggled out of the sleeping bag, trting not to wake Gertrude who had insisted on sharing since their second week traveling together.
When she opened the door she was greeted by a man. He asked where she wanted the wood.
Briefly she considered telling him off, that she didn't like men that way, when she recalled the order she had put in the day before.
"Just set it on the lawn." She said through a yawn. "I'll give you and extra fifty and buy you breakfast if you go and get some." She really didn't feel like heading out into the sunlight today, with a sore back and arms plus the fact that she had misplaced or had lost her sunglasses.
He was quick to accept the deal.
"Broken, help the nice man with unloading that, will you?" The Machop nodded and hurried out to be of service. Shade quickly made a list of breakfast items and when the delivery was unloaded, she handed him the orders and money. "Broken is going along to help with that too.
Thankful for breakfast, the delivery man helped to move the materials into the house. Once he had made enough use of the time they had to say goodbye.
Nothing left in the yard, Shade no longer needed to worry about a tarp because of the forecsst of rain. It was all safely stowed in the rooms along the hall.
Work in the front room went quick after that.
Shade had pulled out old insulation and put in the new stuff. She did not want her teammates dealing with the aweful stuff.
She now had a grey coating of dust. Sweat made dark streaks that left behind white lines, only for her to be coated again. She worked around Broken, who was laying out the new wood for the floor, while Gertrude used her powers to set the reenforcing two by fours into the wall ahead of her.
"I could use my powers for that aweful stuff!" Gertrude said with concern.
"I'd rather save my strength for the sheet rock. I'll do the installation of this horrid, itchy crap." Shade sat back and started cutting open a new roll. "Besides, I can't call myself a part of the family business unless I experience all of it."
"You were telling the truth about that?" Broken and Gertrude both asked.
"My uncle, whoever he is, handles the ground work. Albert takes care of watching over my inheritance. He's been saying I have been alive all this time, even when he had his doubts. Ever loyal and the only person I can truly trust." She wiped her forehead. "I have a feeling he won't actually believe I am until he sees me in person though."
''Why send money to you then?"
"Hope." Shade said sadly. "He has hope."
Within the day, due to Shade's efficient way of working, they had replaced the stairs and finished the hallway. Everything was plain and yet the simple design carved into the bannister and spindels as well as other parts that supported the bannister... all of which Miyu had called "sticks that held up the handrail". Shade saved material by leaving the steps open. The treads being supported by smaller versions of the "sticks holding up the handrail" which were just the leftovers after cutting the ones for the handrail to length.
Over all, Miyu was happy. The decorstive carving Shade had done was actually the Weavile alphabet and shapes of pokemon that started with the letter at the top.
"I never knew you were this good at carving." Gertrude said looking over a Ralts on the stairs. "Is this me?"
"Yes, it is you. Honestly, I didn't know I was good at this either." Shade ran her hand over a Sneasel. "I thought I would mess it up."
"Why take the risk?" Gertrude sat on the steps.
"I don't know. I was curious I guess."
"Reckless." Shade nodded in agreement with Gertrude's assessment. "But now, maybe we could get a license for this and..." she stopped with the look on Shade's face.
"I'm having fun, but I don't think this is what I want to do." Shade admitted. "Maybe I might from time to time, once we're set up and I prove I am alive and can take over the business. Maybe."
"Well, what do you want to do?"
"I like what we were doing when we lived in that cave for a month. Running it like a gym. It was... fun!"
"I liked that too." Gertrude thought back to when they had spent their time that month when they had gotten serious about training that first time. "Why did we stop?"
"To help Birch with the Pokedex." Shade looked at the device. "You think he might catch on that I'm some sort of freak because it still says I'm a Sneasel?"
"Aren't you?" Gertrude stroked Shade's hair.
"Partially." The trainer stare ahead. "I get bits and pieces now. Cages, pokemon in cages. I think they're pokemon. Father never let me look in them. He had me hooked up to machines and would give me shots. He was an aweful man!" Tears rolled down her face. "What he did to Mother!"
"We need to rest for the day." Gertrude called Broken from the next room and had him make out the beds.
