“Whhaa…???” Mochi Hana groaned out groggily.
“Will she be all right?” the young owner of the Nomiya asked.
“She’ll be just fine,” Aoshi said as he set the damp towel across her forehead.
The man nodded at Aoshi, “Fine then, I will leave you with her and take care of the new crowd that came in after the action. We should have more of what we had today. It’s good for the business.”
Aoshi shook his head and smirked at the man. “I will take care of the miss here, you go on and take care of your customers… Ahhh yes, and thank you for your help.”
The young owner bowed and left Aoshi with Mochi Hana.
“What happened?,” Mochi Hana asked as she held the back of her neck trying to sooth the throb that was banging against the lower part of her skull.
“I happened along and saw what you were up to, so I took it upon myself to render you incapable,” replied Aoshi.
“You what?!,” Mochi Hana hollered and attempted to get up. “Owwee… My heavens, Ohhhh,” she moaned and groaned from the extreme painful head throb her attempt resulted in.
“You’re not going anywhere too soon.” Aoshi helped Mochi Hana back to a laying position. “You had to be stopped, and stopped quickly. I had no other choice.”
“Why stop me? They were on their way to Horie’s hideout and I could have gotten to him—gotten my hands on him, and…"
“Precisely why I stopped you. Horie has Mitsu’s sister, have you forgotten that? If we were to halt Horie prematurely, we probably would never see the woman again. Besides, Saitou’s men are on the job following them.”
“But you didn’t have to hit me,” Mochi frowningly said. “It really smarts.”
Aoshi straightened his back, as if to stretch it after hovering over Mochi Hana for a good length of time. “If I hadn’t done what I did, you would have gotten yourself killed. Asking you to abandon the pursuit was out of the question. We would have fought it out right there amongst the crowd. I couldn’t chance that happening.”
Mochi Hana nodded. “Hmn, you’re right. I guess I am blinded by my personal desires to rid this world of the likes of Horie Hisomu.
“It will happen,” Aoshi reassured her. "It will happen."

“It isn’t fair!” Ichie screamed at the top of her tiny lungs. “None of this is fair!”
Both Nakuyo and Koji just about fell over each other as they ran together down the corridor and turned abruptly to enter Ichie’s chamber.
“What’s wrong? Koji ran up to Ichie and immediately stopped when he saw her holding a big glass vase above her head. “What happened here?”
“THAT happened,” Ichie screamed and gestured, pointing at Nakuyo.
“Huh?” Nakuyo muttered as shock muted any other words that Nakuyo meant to say. All he could do was wear the ‘O’ shape on his mouth.
Koji looked over at Nakuyo, and noticing nothing out of the ordinary, he turned to Ichie again. “What do you mean by, ‘THAT happened?’,” he asked.
“That took my chances of getting Horie to fall for me, is what happened!” Ichie screamed the cutting words against Nakuyo, and then she threw the large vase at the young man.
Not thinking to catch the oncoming missile, Nakuyo avoided it in a scurry and the vase hit the floor with a loud crash, strewing broken glass everywhere.
“Oh my heavens!,” Koji hollered. "THAT was Horie-sama’s favorite vase!"
“Serves him right,” Ichie said angrily. She was seething, boiling with retribution. “I now realize, after seeing them together, why Horie ignores my advances.”
“Huh? Wait a minute. Wait one darn minute,” Koji demanded quite worked up. “What are you talking about Ichie? I thought you…” Koji hesitated and looked over at Nakuyo, quite embarrassed to finish his sentence.
Ichie knew straightaway what Koji was referring to, so she simply finished Koji’s sentence for him. “You thought that perhaps you and I actually had something together?”
Koji blushed such a deep color of red that would even put sugar beets to shame, but before Koji could defend himself, Ichie had more to say.
“Well, if that was what you thought, you are dead wrong, Koji,” Ichie said sarcastically. "How could a person like myself find anything worth giving attention to, in you?”
The words crushed right into Koji’s heart like a deafening blow that exploded on impact. He was speechless, and it was definitely obvious that he held back the tears that pounded at his eye ducts, screaming for release.
“Ichie-san! That’s enough. Can’t you see how spitefully mean you are?,” Nakuyo asked stepping into the conversation before it went way past the boundaries of decency.
Ichie frowned and stomped her foot against the ground. “Mean? You are telling me that I am being mean? How dare you even suggest that when you are the meanest of all the mean people I’ve ever known?”
Even Koji was surprised at Ichie’s comment. He wiped a loose tear from his round, chubby cheek and questioned barely audibly, “Huh?”
Nakuyo glanced at Koji and looked straight back at Ichie. “Yeah, what he asked,” he said as he pointed to Koji. “Huh?”
“You men are just the same, baka!” Ichie folded her arms against her chest, standing her ground against both Nakuyo and Koji. “Last night Nakuyo made a play for Horie-sama and they didn’t get back until this morning.”
“What do you mean? I made no ‘play,’ for the lord. It was he that suggested we go up top to the pavillion. I had nothing to do with what Horie-sama wanted.”
“Oh?” Ichie stepped forward; this time she clenched her fists as though she was about to strike out at Nakuyo. “Then why doesn’t Horie-sama pay any attention to me? It can’t be because he isn’t attracted to me. So the only thing I can figure out is the way you play up to him all the time.”
“Ichie, that is Nakuyo’s job. That is what a page is suppose to do. Nakuyo serves our Horie-sama, as well as a horde of others,” Koji said in Nakuyo’s defense.
“It is true, I have very little choice in the matter of what Horie-sama may, or may not want in his life. After all,” Nakuyo shrugged, “Horie-sama is our lord and we all must obey.”
“I can hardly believe my sister obeyed and catered to Horie-sama’s every whim,” said Ichie.
“That might be so,” said Koji, “but I’m willing to bet, she didn’t get away with crossing Horie-sama, if it happened at all.”
Suddenly, as through an electric charge stunned the three, they became silent.”
“It’s Horie-sama,” said Koji. “I am going the other way, into the kitchen. The last place I want to be caught is in Ichie-san’s chambers!”
“Ha! Nakuyo agreed. “You and me both. Come on, let’s go, before he comes here looking for us.”
Before they left the room, Koji turned to Ichie and said, “You best get this mess you made cleaned up. I’m not going to help you. Not after what you said.”
“That’s fine with me. I didn’t need your help in the first place Koji,” Ichie hissed.
The young men left Ichie with her tantrum mess, and they both headed toward the kitchen where Horie seldom is seen. Seldom, except for right then. What timing.
“Sir-Horie!” Koji exclaimed obviously stunned. “Nakuyo was helping me put away the outdoor gear you both used last night.”
“Never mind that,“ Horie said. “What I need is for the both of you prepare the main hall for a rather unwilling, unwelcome guest.”
Straightaway, Koji bowed and went directly to the task Horie demanded of him. He also sorted the accommodations tasks out in his mind as well, just in case this guest should be staying for any length of time.
“Who is this guest? Is it someone I know?” Nakuyo asked rather excited over the prospect of having yet another person from the outside to talk to.
“You will find out soon enough. Now do as I’d requested before I get cross,” Horie said playfully, still intoxicated with Nakuyo’s manner of refreshing him the night before. Horie wasn’t sure of what to make with his newfound fondness for his page. Lords surely do not get attached to their pages. However, Horie was beginning to notice a soft spot welling within that seemingly had a stronger pull on him than he realized.
“Nakuyo,” Horie called out rather unexpectedly.
“Yes, Horie-sama,” the young man replied instantly stopped in his tracks.
Horie didn’t hesitate to walk up to Nakuyo and take the young man into his arms. Without saying a single word, Horie set his lips upon Nakuyo’s, parting them with his tongue in order to get into his page a little deeper. Horie noticed how quickly his breath departed from him as he slid his tongue deeper into the warmth of his page. He opened his mouth wide and allowed his breath to be swept from him. “Haaaah," Horie sighed loudly as his tongue slid against Nakuyo’s molars. Then Horie’s lips covered the boy’s lips completely, totally, in a very deep and satisfying kiss.
For one thing, Nakuyo felt very much absorbed. It was the only way he knew how to explain how he felt whenever his lord kissed him. Horie had a way of consuming him totally, completely that at times; Nakuyo wasn’t sure exactly what was left of him. He had always believed that a relationship with a man was totally unacceptable. However, Horie had a way of chasing such thoughts away— Far, far away.

Another day at work seemed to breeze by for Saitou, for he set a great big dent in the paperwork that seemed to be coming from the pit of eternal supply. He stretched his neck by arching it back as far as it could possibly go, and then moved his neck in a circular motion as he tried to rid himself of the nagging ache he felt at the bottom of his skull.
“God damn it,” he said under his breath when thoughts of Sano were rather persistent and was a big contribution to the stress that he was trying to manage. Work, for Saitou, had always played a big part in his life. It not only brought in the money to sustain a decent living, but Saitou had learned from an early age to use his productive pursuits as an escape from daily issues.
Though Saitou busied himself at the office, his mind was still occupied. His relationship with Sano bothered him. He was much older than the young man and had lived a very interesting life, to say the least. However, when he thought of Sano, he couldn’t muffle the fact that Sano had a whole life ahead to live. Saitou could not justify his reasons for keeping the young man as his own. As far as Saitou was concerned, that would be a selfish act on his part. After all, Saitou lived his whole life freely, shouldn’t he allow the same for Sano?
However, the very thought of letting Sano go was upsetting. The gnawing going on in the pit of his stomach had Saitou agonizing over it, but he could not avoid the nagging thoughts of having to take care of the situation soon.
A knock on the door interrupted Saitou’s brooding.
“Come,” said Saitou in reply feeling a bit relieved about his thoughts being interrupted.
“Excuse me sir,” one of his subordinates said as he entered the office with a look of concern atop his face. “It’s Horie Hisomu again, sir.”
“What is it this time?,” asked Saitou dropping his pencil upon the pile of papers below his other hand, seemingly irritated at the mere mention of the underground lord’s name.
“Your friend… The one that is known as Sanosuke Sagara.”
“Yes, go on,” said Saitou with more interest than he originally had.
“Our men saw a scene unfold as we were on our way to the meeting Horie Hisomu was said to be attending with his distributers. A squad is on that right now to raid the group.”
“I see. That is good, but what of the young man, Sanosuke?” Saitou asked.
The man frowned and his reply was not what Saitou needed to hear. He went on with his report, and with each word describing what took place in front of the Nomiya obviously had Saitou in a state of distress.
“God damn it Sanosuke!” Saitou’s exclamation echoed through the door and could be heard out in the main room, and even down the hall. “Do you mean to tell me that Sanosuke placed himself in the position of being captured by Horie?” he shouted. “What the hell was he thinking?”
“I wouldn’t know sir.”
“I wasn’t asking you, I simply do not understand what goes on in Sanosuke’s mind at times. His luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time is unbelievable. The odds could be astronomical, but leave it up to Sanosuke to narrow the odds,” said Saitou shaking his head. “How in hells name did he manage that, I don’t know. However, what I do know is the fact that we would have gotten our hands on Horie this evening if it weren’t for Sanosuke getting himself in the middle of this.”
“Fujita-sir, the men were advised to follow Horie Hisomu to find out where his hideout is.”
“Keep me posted. I will be here until I receive word. I would be wasting time to go looking for that misfit. Horie is a slick bastard, I’m doubting that anyone would be able to stay on his tail for very long.”
The officer bowed, “Yes sir,” he said and left the office.
“Damn Sanosuke!"

Horie exited his bath and wrapped the thick towel around his wet body. His hair still dripped water down his shoulders as he made himself comfortable on his dressing chair.
“Did you enjoy your bath? “Nakuyo asked as he towel dried his lord’s hair.
“Hmmm yes, it was superb. The salts were exquisite this time. I am glad the shipment came in with the opium. Whenever I place an order overseas, I make sure they include bath salts. Did you know that we’ve been receiving the salts from around the world?” Horie asked Nakuyo.
“No, I just know they smell awfully good.”
“Well, I’m sorry you were off helping Koji with that disgusting drunk, because this time I received a supply of salts from a distant island that is known as Hawaii,” said Horie. "We have been exporting farm workers to work the farms on that island in the Pacific, and in exchange, I have been amazed with all the new things they have been sending our way. Certainly some goods I have never imagined existed.”
“Really? Koji said with much interest. “Like what? Are there really wonderful things from this land?”
“Yes, very strange goods indeed. I will show you some of it when we have more time. Right now I must check on that drunken scum.” Horie gestured to his hanging rack, which was a sign that he was ready to be dressed.
“Yes Horie-sama. I will get that for you,” Nakuyo jumped to attention.
“Very good my page. I have trained you well, haven’t I?” Horie smiled seemingly pleased with himself and the control he had over Nakuyo. “If only everyone else would be so obedient,” he said with a long sigh following.
Nakuyo did everything expected of him. He scurried around Horie making sure the yukata and obi were on his lord perfectly. Then, the page brought a sizable mirror to his lord, and he held it before Horie, admiring the handsome man more than Horie admired his reflection in that in that mirror. The sparkle in Nakuyo’s eyes never failed when he looked at Horie. In fact, everyone noticed how dedicated the page was to Horie, and it had been more apparent since that Horie had been paying a lot more attention to the lad.
“Forgive me for asking Horie-sama, but who is that man that was brought in earlier?” Nakuyo asked not able to hold his curiosity at bay. “Why was he all tied up?”
“For Buddha sake, the men did not untie him, did they?” Horie instantly became alarmed at the very thought.
“No my lord, he was still bound in the great room when I saw him. He looked uncomfortable, so I put a pillow under his head.” Nakuyo’s trouble look on his face screamed confusion. “He tried to bite me when I was trying to do him a favor.”
“Hmn," Horie acknowledged. "He and his kind really believe they are doing society a favor by what they do, but instead they only strengthen the government and make everyone around them depressed. I on the other hand, I am helping people feel secure, and arm them incase another scurry breaks out in Japan. Now that the barbarians are on our soil, we Japanese should be armed, and ready to defend our country. It is inevitable.”
As Nakuyo listened to Horie go on about all the good his lord believed he was doing for Japan, he was beginning to believe it as well. As Horie spoke, Nakuyo fell deeper into admiration. He had never known any person alive who he respected more. Horie was bigger than life to Nakuyo, but there were still the haunting convictions that what he and his lord was experiencing between them was never meant to happen.
Horie took a quick look in the large mirror. “Yes, this will do.” He nodded at Nakuyo and said, “Come now, let us see how cooperative that troublesome rodent will be.”
“Yes Horie-sama.”
The two left Horie’s personal chambers almost glued to one another. It was as strange sight indeed, for the staff had never observed Horie so taken to any one individual, not even with Mitsu who had been Horie’s companion the longest.
They could hear Sano’s voice echoing off the walls in refusal over something Koji was asking him to do even before they rounded the corner and entered the corridor that led to the main chamber.
Upon entering the massive chamber, Horie was greeted by a flurry of obscenities from Sano. Without hesitation, or emotion, Horie walked directly to Sano who was still lying on the floor.
“You are obscene,” said Horie. He pulled his foot back and released it with deliberate momentum. The blow hit Sano unexpectedly. It slammed into the young man’s midsection causing him to gasp for air and loose his sense of wellbeing.
“I have told you before, have I not? You behave like an animal; I very well will treat you as such. Now, will it take more than that to get you to cooperate?,” Horie demanded an answer angrily.
“You’re the fucken animal you sick fuck!,” Sano barked back as he managed to ride through the blow to the abdomen just moments before.
“Then it is settled,” said Horie, reached over and gave a rap to the summons gong.
Koji just about visualized out of thin air as he trotted into the room, no doubt eavesdropping outside of the great chamber, curious as to what was going on.
“Yes Horie-sama?” came Koji’s quick reply to the summons.
“It is time we take this young man’s plea to be treated like an animal seriously,” said Horie to Koji.
“Do you mean?—"
“I most certainly do mean the discipline chamber,” Horie cut Koji off before the servant could finish his sentence.
“Yes sir,” bowed Koji. “I will round up the others to set him up,” Koji said referring to Sano.
“What the hell is going on? Hey… You guys sound like you’re up to something. What discipline chamber?”
Horie chuckled, “You will soon find out and be sorry that you did not cooperate when you had the chance.”
Sano swallowed hard, this time he realized he had pushed his luck just a step beyond the word’s meaning. His whole day was rather unlucky, but Sano, still groggy from the rice wine he drank earlier didn’t bother to exercise wisdom.
“Don’t worry,” said Horie as he eyed the pathetic glob of drunken human being on the floor. ”I will make sure you are cleaned up before we begin disciplinary lessons.”
“What the hell are you talking about? I’m not dirty, asshole,” Sano snarled.
Horie immediately and forcefully kicked Sano again. This time the underground lord’s foot caught the side of Sano’s buttocks. “Silence!” Horie demanded. “The first lesson shall entail teaching you the meaning of respect! I don’t give a damn if you respect anyone else, but when it comes to speaking to me, you shall do so with respect!”
Horie was mounting upon fury and decided to dismiss himself from the scene. “Nakuyo!”
“Yes Horie-sama,” Horie stepped forward and bowed.
“Do make sure that Koji cleans the spot this piece of filth is laying upon when it is moved,” Horie ordered. “When that is done, and this work-of-art is secured in the disciplinary chamber, let me know. I will be in my own chamber.”
“Yes Horie-sama.”
With that, Horie walked out the receiving chamber leaving Sano with Nakuyo.
“Hey kid, I have to tell you something,” Sano said awhile after Horie left.
“It would be best if we do not converse,” said Nakuyo.
“How did I know you were going to say something as asinine as that?,” questioned Sano. “I was just going to tell you that your boss is a few fishes short of a day's catch. That man is insane, do you know that?”
Nakuyo frowned taking offense at what Sano was implying. “No, I do not believe that my lord is anything but perfect, and smart too. He knows what is happening here in Japan and he is making sure Japan is secured.”
Sano moaned a little as he shifted his weight. “Damn it, these ropes hurt like hell.”
“Well if you weren’t as obstinate, I’m sure you would have been freed and cared for when you arrived.”
“You must be joking little brother. Even if I were Buddha himself, Horie wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about me. He is a mother-fucking curse to mankind. Almost as bad as another shithead I once knew by the name of Shishio.”
Just after that Sano was surrounded by four of Horie’s men. “Time to go asshole,” said one of the men about twice the size of Sano.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t date gorillas,” said Sano as he checked out Horie’s massive bodyguard who was on route to get Sano to where Horie wanted him. He looked at the three other men and added, “Neither do I date shitheads with asses for faces.”
