How could you?

Thank you to everyone who gave me such wonderful reviews.

Kyo moved around noon before sitting all the way up again. He had a hurt look on his face and before Haru new what was going on he was crying heavily into his own hands after pulling away from Haru. Confused and worried Haru sat on the edge of the bed and wrapped his arms tightly around his shoulders and held him close to his body and rubbed his back trying to calm the emotionally unstable Kyo.

“Kyo.” He whispered. “What’s wrong?” He ran his hand over the back of Kyo’s bed ruffled hair.

“My dreams,” He gasped into his shoulders. “They were like a nightmare and I couldn’t get away from it and they seemed so real.” He shook his head almost frantically as if to get the images away but finding that it’s not working.

“What did you see in your dreams?” Haru asked feeling that they were no dreams at all but memories of the things that had happened to him as a child.

“A man with dark hair, he was horribly me and he hit me.” He whispered “And then there was a bracelet.” He trailed off when he felt his wrist and felt the bracelet resting there.

He tried to pull if off but Haru held it on. “Kyo, those were memories. The ones I told you of.”
“Why won’t you let me take it off? I hate it.”

“Because you’ll hate yourself more then you hate this.” Haru answered quickly. “Trust me.”

“Tell me why.” He said in a serious voice.

“Kyo.” He said a little reluctantly.

“Tell me Haru please.” Kyo asked and held his hand in a slight grip.

Haru looked surprised. “Kyo I never told you my name.” He said softly.

Kyo looked confused and then as if he was thinking about it. ” I just know it.” He answered before hold up his wrist.

“Tell me.” He whispered and waited.

Haru took his hand. “We are cursed with the animals from the Chinese zodiac. You with the cat and I with the ox or cow which ever you prefer to call me. The cat was the rejected sign after he was tricked by the mouse, Yuki the boy who picked on you. And the spirit became angry and vengeful. You have that in you in a form that most fear and run from even you run from it. This.” Haru said stroking the beads. “Keep you from turning into that form and they keep you safe.” He answered calmly and stroked the skin gently.

Kyo lapsed into a long silence. “Why?” he started and then trailed off. “Why did he do that?” He questioned as though it was something that had been lurking in the dark for a while.

“I don’t know.” Haru said calmly. “All I know is the story.” He said simply.

Kyo looked down. “Are you frightened by me?” he asked quietly pulling his hand away and wrapping it around his own waist and put his head down.

”I’ve never seen you. They hid you away for so long.” Haru said brushing his hair away from his forehead.

Kyo was quiet a moment before closing his eyes. “Would you still love me?”

“Yes.” Haru answered seriously and sat close enough that he could nudge his shoulder under his head and prop it up. “I’ve never been frightened of you Kyo. Search your memories.” He said softly again. “Look back and remember my voice, let that show you what you’ve forgotten about me.”

Kyo took a deep breath and leaned into Haru and thought letting Haru’s voice show him what he was forgetting. He saw everything that he was forgetting about Haru moments of fights, Kyo showing him to the bathroom and the last one tore at his heart. He saw the storm clouds, saw the rain as it fell and the last thing that was imprinted in his mind was the horrified eyes that belonged to the one holding him now. How his hand was stretched out as far as it could be and grabbing for him. The pain and fear that had been in those eyes pulled him and made him want to stay. He gasped and jerked his head up.

“You,” He started. “You were there. You tried to grab my hand. I saw you.” He whispered and reached up touching Haru’s face to make sure that he had the right person. “It was you who cared so deeply for me, you who tried to get to me.” He searched his face. “And now you are the one here, the one making sure I know what’s going on, making sure I’m comfortable, that I know someone cares.” He wrapped his hand around Haru’s neck. “The one that was so frightened and that was in pain when I fell.” He whispered and rested his forehead against Haru’s before leaning in and pressing his lips tightly to his.

Haru sighed against the soft lips and kissed back wrapping his arms tightly around Kyo’s waist to hold him close. Kyo finally pulled back. “The only one who has loved me through all of my years.\" He answered finally. “Thank you.”

“You don’t have to thank me. Just love me the same.” Haru whispered and leaned in to kiss him again.

Kyo melted against him and kisses back vigorously letting his relief wash through him. He had someone. Finally he had a hand reaching out to him and all he had to do was take it and not let it go. Haru gently licked at his lips and Kyo dropped his mouth to open up and pull Haru’s tongue in with his. He loved Haru’s taste instantly. It was a mixture of green apples and something that reminded him of oats. He licked at Haru’s mouth and wrapped his arms around his back strongly and pulled so that they could lay down Haru laying half on him and half off of him.

He wanted Haru’s taste in his mouth long after Haru stopped kissing him. He felt a warm hand run down his side and cradle his ribs gently. He leaned into the touch loving every second of it. The door opened and Kyo pulled away from Haru but kept his hand on him to hold him close.

“It’s good to see you doing well.” Hatori said calmly as if he hadn’t seen anything. “How are you feeling today?”

“I’m doing much better.” He said smiling and stroking Haru’s cheek.

Hatori looked at Haru who shook his head. “Please Hatori; don’t make him go through it again.” He looked down at Kyo fondly.

“Do what?” Kyo asked and got a confused look on his face.

“I have to ability to show your memories to you, to bring them back or repress them.” Hatori answered.

“I don’t want to remember.” He said in a small frightened voice. “I don’t want them back.”

“I am afraid I have no choice.” Hatori announced sadly and stepped forward and touched Kyo’s forehead only to have him thrash in his hold.

Haru turned his head away and held him tightly to his body controlling most of the sharp movement. Haru watched as Kyo started to cry as he tried to pull his arms away from the tight hold. “No please.” He begged Hatori loudly in a desperate voice. “I DON’T WANT THEM!” he screamed in an anguished voice.

His overly thin body jerked with his sobs. “Make him stop!” he cried frantically.

“I’m so sorry Kyo.” Haru whispered and closed his eyes tightly. “Please forgive me.”

Kyo twisted his head back and forth and Hatori gritted his teeth and blocked out Kyo’s frightened cries to stop. He cries tore at Hatori’s heart and when he pulled his hand away a grim line was set in place of his mouth that had smiled so joyously before.

“Don’t touch me.” A serious voice answered.

Haru and Hatori both backed away. “Kyo” Haru questioned.

“Don’t talk to me. Leave me alone.”

And just like that Haru’s world was crushed. He opened his mouth to say something but stopped and pulled away putting his head down to hide his tears. He stood and wrapped his arms around his waist and started to walk out of the room. He held it together until he got out of the hospital and into the parking lot where he collapsed near the car resting his head on the cool side and crying out his broken heart. He closed his eyes tightly against the pain and prayed for it to go away. He waited till his chest didn’t feel so heavy before standing again. Hatori touched his shoulder and he pulled away. “Please, I just want to go home.”

Hatori nodded and opened up the door and let him in. He slid into the seat and started it up pulling out of the parking lot. Hatori had never seen Haru look so hurt in his entire life and doubted that it would get any better. They drove to the house and Haru got out sliding into the family residence and into his room without a word to the overly excited Momiji who was bouncing up and down asking a ton of questions. Hatori simply set his hand on his shoulder.

“Not now Momiji.”

Momiji looked up at Hatori with wide brown eyes. “What happened?”

“I had to give Kyo his memories back.” He answered simply and walked away to his room.

He sighed and thought about Haru’s broken look and couldn’t take it. Walking down the hall and to Haru’s room he stopped and knocked quietly. “Haru.” He called through the door and heard the soft crying from the other side of the door. He quietly opened the door and saw just a lump shaking hard under blankets. He walked in and sat on the side and pulled back the blankets. Haru sniffed his nose loudly and looked at Hatori with bruised eyes.

They watched each other for a moment before Hatori reached out and placed his hand over Haru’s eyes. “Shh.” He whispered and altered his memory taking Kyo away from them.

And again Hatori felt the tears against the palm of his hand as he wiped another memory away. When he was done he covered Haru and walked out of the room and closed the door going into his office he picked up the phone and called Shigure.

“Ha-san” Shigure said softly.

“I can’t.” He looked at his hands and shook hard. “Shigure.” He whispered and dropped the phone crying and watching his hands blur under his tears.

Shigure slammed the door open and Hatori looked up. “I did it.” He whispered. “I ruined two more lives.”

Shigure walked up to him and wrapped him in a tight embrace rubbing his back. “What happened?” He asked so softly.

“Kyo, I had to give him back his memories and he broke Haru’s heart and so I took his away.” He sobbed into Shigure’s shoulder. “He looked so,” He trailed off.

“Like you did when she left you?” Shigure guessed and held Hatori tighter when he nodded.

“I can’t do this anymore.” He whispered and wrapped his arms around Shigure’s back locking them. “I don’t want to. I don’t want to have this power Shigure, make it stop.”

“I can’t.” he whispered. “I would if I could, you know I would but, I can’t.” Shigure whispered into his dark hair.

Hatori leaned heavily into Shigure’s hold until he cried himself to sleep and Shigure stood up and covered him up pushing his hair away from his face. “I’ll make it better. I swear.” He whispered and stood.

He walked down the hall and into Akito’s room clearly angry. “How could you?”

Akito just smiled. “I had to.”

Shigure snapped finally coming to his boiling point. “Just because you’re miserable doesn’t give you the right to make everyone else miserable as well.” He yelled at him. “Hatori is broken because of you. You know that and yet he doesn’t blame you when I do. It’s your fault. Kyo’s angry and broke Haru’s heart so Hatori had to take his memories of Kyo away. Now Hatori is in pain again and I for one am tired of it.” He snapped and watched Akito’s eyes go wide. “I’m one person not afraid of you. You stay away from Hatori, Haru, Yuki and Kyo. I swear if I find you near them I will hurt you.” He snarled showing his true colors as an over protective dog and slammed the door.

He stalked down the hall and back into the room where Hatori was sleeping and as soon as he saw him curled up all of his anger completely left him. He walked over quietly and curled up behind Hatori and held him close. “I’ll protect you.” He whispered and closed his eyes.
