Disclaimer: I do not own Trinity Blood, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Here is the next chapter! It's short, but I felt angsty and I'm feeling cornered and frustrated and since I'm a loser and can't do the things Alex can, I thought I'd live vicariously. This is just a stepping stone. The next chapter is going to be as long as two, I promise and they will be coming more frequently! Bio and calc finals next week! Wish me luck! AND PLEASE REVIEW SO I FEEL LESS INSIGNIFICANT! Feed me, I'm hungry.
9:The Damage is Done
“Where are these notes now?” Lady Catherina’s expression was grave.
“I have destroyed them, Your Eminence.”
“De-destroyed them?” William looked like he might be sick.
“Yes. There are people in this world, people like Cardinal Francesco, who would use this science to rid the world of vampires. Likewise, people like Cain can rid the world of humans. I know it wouldn’t be that hard to steal the notes, so I destroyed them.”
“Then this information, possibly the most incredible scientific catalogue of our time is gone forever?” William sounded quite devastated as he was quite eager to peruse the notes Alex had spent the last hour telling them about.
“No. I didn’t say the information was lost, Father Wordsworth. I merely destroyed the hard copy. The notes, word for word, are locked in my memory forever.”
The others were quiet again and the Cardinal stared at Alex with a curious look. Alex felt like she had said something blasphemous in the middle of Sunday school. When the Cardinal finally broke the silence, Alex actually jumped.
“This is a matter of great import and as such I would like to discuss it with the members of the AX. I thank you, Alexandra, for your presentation.”
“Your Eminence.” Alexandra bowed and turned to leave, first glancing at Abel. He refused to meet her gaze, though she stood for a few moments, trying to gain his attention. His face was somewhat flushed as if he were quite enraged and Alex felt another almost overwhelming wave of nausea wash over her. She raised her head, refusing to bow out shamefully, and left rather quickly with the harsh shuffling on her skirt. Once free of Catherina’s office, Alex walked as fast as she could with her heels, back to her suite. Once there she changed into a pair of black jeans covered in zippers and D-rings and a solid black corset that didn’t quite meet the top of her jeans. She left her hair as it was and removed the necklace, tossing onto a bedside table angrily. She strapped her leather garters on and holstered her wicked looking dagger, as well as its twin. In addition to this she strapped on shoulder holsters and holstered a pair of sai. She had spent the last week cooped up in a library and now had plenty of energy to burn. She felt like training, and since everyone was busy having adult discussions without her...
Abel had refused to meet her gaze and it irked her to no end. What did that mean? Had he despised her some-odd great grandmother? She wasn’t Crystal and she couldn’t very well be held accountable for her botched research. Alex hadn’t created Abel and forced his current form on him. She hadn’t considered that Abel might despise Crystal and vicariously her as well. As she dwelled on these thoughts, anger and hurt rose inside her. Predictably, the tears rose as well. Alex bit her lip and swallowed, forcing her tears away. Alex knew how to deal with her anger, but sadness was dangerous. Sadness rose like a tidal wave, enveloping her and dragging her down into a fathomless darkness from which returning was always questionable. So, Alex let her anger take the foreground in her mind.
Alex had left her room and come into the gardens on the grounds before she even realized she’d made a move from her bathroom. Breathing deeply to calm her seething mind, she cracked her knuckles and neck, beginning to stretch. Alex reached for her toes and did a hand stand, trying to clear her mind. When that failed she stood straight and brought each foot to her lower back, holding it in place for a few minutes, struggling to loosen her tensed muscles. Finally, some minutes later, Alex felt stretched enough to begin her exercises. She started off slowly with kickboxing style moves, simply throwing idle punches and kicks. However, rather than helping her to relax, her anger grew with every punch until her face was scrunched in rage.
Alex was so caught up in her activities that when the crunch of grass sounded from directly behind her she barely had time to register that someone was sneaking up on her. She quickly grabbed one of her daggers, the blade flashing brilliantly in the fading light as she brought it to her follower’s throat. Her breath was ragged, as she had been quite vigorous in her exercise and her gaze was cold and calculating from her train of thought. Her breath hitched and her expression softened as gorgeous blonde curls caught the light of sunset.
"Should we continue to meet this way, I may start to think that you dislike me.” Hugue’s joke accompanied by his constant frown made Alex relax into a sheepish grin.
“Good evening, Father. Quite the contrary, I rather enjoy your company. After all, what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t try to keep you on your toes?”
“You are quite talented.”
“But?”
“But nothing, it was a simple statement.”
“You don’t think I could best you?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Would you care to try?” Hugue regarded her, trying to find sarcasm in her challenge.
“I would be honored to fight you, though I don’t think your state of mind is the best for such a sparing. You are quite upset I think?”
“No, I was upset. I feel much better now.” Alex winked at him and Hugue’s frown lessened.
“If you wish, Alexandra.”
“Oh, I do.” With that said, Alex threw a punch at Hugue’s gorgeous face and he dodged it swiftly, not quite thrown off by the swiftness of her attack. Alex spun around, delivering a dizzying kick to the spot where his abdomen had been moments before. Hugue continued to dodge the next round of furious kicks and punches when Alex stopped, her arms up at the ready like a boxer. “Why won’t you charge?”
“Because I do not wish to strike you.”
“Don’t worry, you won’t.”
“Mmm.” Alex chuckled at his noncommittal reply.
“How about this. If you do land a blow or even come within an inch of doing so I will give you the best kiss you’ve ever had.” Hugue’s face colored almost imperceptibly and he dropped his gaze to the ground almost in consideration. “Oh come on--” Alex’s retort was cut off by Hugue’s fist flying past her face. For several minutes the two jumped and flipped around the patch of grass in the garden, dodging and charging one another. Alex’s ability to dodge and attack on the upswing was amazing and Alex came quite close to nailing Hugue several times. Finally, Hugue made a fatal error in a frontal charge and Alex had him flat on his back with Alex straddling him, her legs pinning his arms and her sais in a scissor stance at his throat.
“Looks like I win, Tiger.” The surprise that broke through Hugue’s cold mask was priceless. Alex leaned close and kissed his cheek, inhaling the scent of his hair.
“Les cheveux... ils sentent bon.” Alex closed her eyes, leaning in close to Hugue, slowly shifting to release his arms.
“Merci, mademoiselle.” Hugue obediently left his arms where they were and Alex could feel the unmistakable presence of Hugue’s arousal. She could also feel a burning gaze searing into the back of her head.
“I’m... sorry.” Alex lifted herself and sat off to the side of him, blushing furiously. Hugue sat up slowly, gazing at her until she returned his gaze.
“There is nothing to be sorry for Alex. I should be apologizing to you. Though I couldn’t help it, that wasn’t very... gentlemanly of me.”
“Well, straddling you wasn’t very ladylike either. Nor was molesting your hair.” Hugue chuckled, a quiet and surprisingly light sound.
“Quite the pair. Drawn to each other through violence.”
“Hmm.” Alex watched him, reaching out to play with a lock of his hair. “It really is beautiful.”
“I hardly pay attention to it.” Alex chuckled and stood, Hugue rising with her.
“Shall we walk back?”
“I merely came to check on you. I have to report to Lady Catherina, she is sending me out on a reconnaissance mission.” Alex pouted.
“All right, I will walk back by myself. Take care of yourself, Hugue.” Hugue took her hand, kissing the back of it as he graced her with a sultry look.
“I will do what it takes so that I may kiss this hand again.” Alex laughed outright and kissed each cheek.
“Bon chance.” Alex watched as Hugue left her, the last bit of light fighting to remain at the horizon. As she turned to walk down the corridor to her suite, she was stopped by a tall shadow perched against the wall.
“So, making fast friends around the Vatican are we?” A lone finger came up to push the glasses up his nose, the glint of light blocking out the detail of his eyes. His face lifted as Alex turned her back, her cold laugh and the sharp dangerous click of her heels echoing down the corridor as she left him standing there.
Sorry, couldn't help the next cliffy. Wonder if Alex has already moved on??? Hmm.... guys can be fickle, but hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Especially publicly.
