Chapter 9

Ryo and Rose couldn’t believe the site that greeted them. Each was expecting an old two-storied hospital building in the middle of the woods. Instead, the car pulled up to a four-storied modern building that is almost made out of solid glass. The medical staff was waiting at the emergency entrance as the car came to a stop. They quickly took Dee out and placed him on a gurney as Quintillus bark out orders. A nurse took Ryo and Rose to the waiting room while Tiberius followed Quintillus to a treatment room. As Ryo took in the site of the all glass room complete with a food and juice bar, Rose called Drake to give driving directions. A male nurse came up to the two and introduce himself as he motion the two to have a seat.

“I was ordered by Dr. Capella and Dr. Stone to keep you inform on the condition of your friend.”

“What’s wrong with Dee?” asked Ryo with a bit of nervousness.

“Right now, your friend is being tested for a specific gene.”

“Specific as in “, spoke Rose.

“You have heard of the rare male.”

“Yes. You don’t mean to say that Dee…” spoke Ryo.

“The preliminaries show that Mr. Laytner could be one. The blood, urine and x-rays will verify his make up. I must ask a few questions for his records and they do tend to be personal in nature.”

“I’ll go and meet the others”, said Rose as he got up and left the room. Ryo mindlessly answered the questions concerning Dee’s sex life. The thought of his love giving birth was slowly sinking in as he was praying that it was true. As he was finishing up, he gave a slight smile. Life will never be the same.

“There it is”, smiled Tiberius as he pointed out an area on one of the x-rays.

“It looks very healthy”, grin Quintillus. “It’s been how many years?”

“Almost twenty. Either he was on top or he abstain from sex altogether. I’m sticking to the first.”

“Agree. Which means that he’s a true virgin. Never taken in his entire life.”

“And to think that we had a true princess in our back yard. When we come across them, they usually well into their pregnancy. This indeed is rare.”

“The guys will go crazy over this. Do we keep him for ourselves or place him on the world market?”

“If we place him on the market, we’ll be set for a couple of lifetimes. No. We’ll keep him. He will become the sole property of the Holy Empire.”

“You know that when the word gets out, they will be trying to get him. Are you ready for the coming battles?”

“But of course. This is a blessing from the gods. Not only will we have the perfect princess, but we will have the world as well. We shall hold one more Senate before Christmas to make the grand announcement.”

“If anything, the wine he drank was confirmation. You need to wrap up your little project or else you will have to fulfill the sacred oath.”

“I will. I don’t want any harm to come to Dee and I don’t want anyone to take him away from us…From me. So, let us take the princess up to his room and properly put him to bed”, smiled Tiberius. “I’ve been waiting for this day to see what’s underneath those clothes.”

“Me too”, grin Quintillus. “Shall we do it slow?”

“No. His partner and his boss are waiting to see him. Maybe later when they have left for the night.”

The two called for a tech to place the x-rays on a disc and store the info in the patient’s records before leaving the huge viewing room.

JJ was the first one out of the car when they arrived at the medical center. Rose told his three detectives of the preliminary report as he escorted them to the waiting room. They spotted Ryo seated in a plush chair drinking a cup of coffee. The group got a cup of coffee and joined Ryo as they waited for the report.

“I can’t believe that my Dee could be a rare man”, smiled JJ. “Can I pick them or can I pick them!”

“JJ, he’s not yours”, grin Drake. “Although life at work will get very interesting if those tests confirms it.”

“Yeah. All the rich and crazies will be at our door trying to get Dee”, nodded Ted. “So what are we going to do?”

“Nothing”, responded Rose. “If we change Dee’s assignment, we will certainly put him in danger of being kidnapped. By keeping him in CI, all of us can protect him. Only one thing I ask from you. Don’t tell anyone of Dee’s condition.”

“Why? This is great news”, asked JJ

“Because someone at the precinct might want to make a fast buck”, answered Ryo. “If they sell Dee, that person will be set for life. Dee would be treated like a valuable object that is to be possessed and not a human being.”

“I see. Well, we won’t let that happen.”

At that moment Tiberius and Quintillus came into the waiting room.

“Tiberius. How’s Dee?” asked JJ.

“We gave him something for the pain and to help him sleep.”

“We were informed that he could be a rare male”, spoke Ryo.

“The result of the tests shows that Detective Laytner is indeed a rare male. His reproductive system is in a very healthy state”, smiled Quintillus. “Every few weeks, a rare male will go through a period where the reproductive system goes through a cleaning process. It’s like when a woman goes through her period every 28 days. Instead of bleeding, these males will secrete a unique substance through the bowels.”

“Do these males have cramps? I know my wife does and she goes through a demon change”, asked Marty.

“Yes, there is some discomfort and sometimes painful cramps. It will only last for 5 to 7 days”, responded Tiberius.

“So that’s why Dee looks like he was punched in the bread basket on some days”, smiled Ted.

“He will have to be assign to a physician who specializes in rare male medicine”, spoke Quintillus. “I would very much like to be his personal physician.”

“I’m afraid that the health insurance for the department doesn’t cover for rare males nor do we have policies concerning such a person on the force”, Rose spoke with a grim expression.

“Not to worry”, smiled Tiberius. “All of his medical will be taken care of. As for his work, that would be up to you and the force. But be warned. If something should happen to him that should have been prevented, then unforeseen forces will intervene and take him away. As physicians, we see it happen a lot to rare males.”

“You know, you’re giving us food for thought”, responded Rose.

“Can we see Dee?’ asked Ryo.

“But of course”, Quintillus responded as he motioned everyone to follow him. “We’re going to keep him here for a few days to stabilize his condition and to run a head-to-toe exam for the medical records.”

The group boarded an elevator and went up to the rooms where each had a individual nurse-on-call. They entered a room and saw Dee being attended by a male nurse. Ryo quickly went up to the huge bed and took hold of the right hand making sure he didn’t disturb the IV in the arm.

“How do you feel Dee?”

“Less sore and very sleepy….did they told you of my condition?”

“Yes. Believe me when I tell you that I will never leave your side and I will protect you always.”

“I know…You need to go and tell Mother of this…I know she will be happy of this news…And Bikky need to be told too…. “

“Don’t worry. I’ll call on my cell phone. I don’t want to leave you.”

“I’ll be fine Ryo…and besides, you need to capture that killer…”

“He’s right”, spoke JJ. “If that stalker learns that Dee is laid up, he might come for him or kill another innocent group.”

“I’ll…be…back…(yawn)…to…help…soon…I…need…to…sleep…now…(yawn)…”

Ryo placed a lite kiss on Dee’s forehead as his lover closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep. Everyone left the room while the nurse took a set of vitals. As they left the medical center, they know that life for everyone in the 27^th will never be the same again.
