One could not help but notice the eruption, just south of the Japanese archipelago. Its explosive force rained volcanic ash as far away as Hong Kong, though the larger chunks, the volcanic bombs, only reached as far as Tokyo. Ash fell like snow, clogging engines' breathing mechanisms and forcing students to wear gas masks, and ash clouds blotted out the sun over the entire nation for six days. Even the Negaverse dared not visit during this time, for fear of suffocating their agents. These were only the visible effects, however.
An ancient ship, left there from a time before humans had even evolved, was shaken from its undersea covering of rock. Geothermal generators absorbed heat energy from the volcano and provided power to the ship for the first time in millennia. After storing enough energy to leave its watery tomb, it pumped all the water out of itself, rendering itself buoyant, and floated to the surface, then crawled up onto the land with the aid of extendible tank-like treads. The vessel crawled to the top of the cone, then down into the crater, where it capped the lava flow, utilizing its heat for its own power. With those needs attended to, it began to seed the new island.
"Wow, would you look at that?" Minako asked, peering through her telescope. "The ash just cleared up yesterday and already that cone's looking green in patches. What do you think, Artemis?"
"Let me see." the white cat requested, and Minako moved back so he could peer inside as well. "Hmm...that's strange." he muttered. "Never seen a volcano get that green that fast before."
"Negaverse activity, you think?" Minako asked.
"I don't think so." Ars sas said. "They usually destroy life, not create it."
"Point taken." Minako replied. "I still think we should call the others." The phone rang. "Aino residence." she chimed.
"Mina, it's Ami." Ami's voice declared over the line. "Listen, there's a scientific expedition going over to the new island to take a look at it up close. They've asked for volunteers and so I volunteered all of us. Hope you don't mind."
"Mind? I was going to suggest it myself." Minako replied. "When are we leaving?"
"Tomorrow morning, early. Set your alarm for five-thirty."
"Ugh." Minako grumbled. "Can't we just leave this evening and sleep on the boat or something?"
"Perils of tagging along on a government expedition." Ami replied with a smile in her voice. "They set the hours."
"Well, at least we know someone who's going to like the hours even less." Minako said.
"Yeah, that's why I asked Rei to smooth it over with her. See you in the morning."
Rei rubbed her eyes as she took her seat on the boat. Five-thirty was earlier than she was used to getting up, but she had managed to only hit the snooze button twice. Serena sat in one of the back seats, mumbling animatedly to herself.
"What's with her?" she asked.
"Well, knowing how hard I work to get her up at the regular time, she knew she wasn't going to be able to wake up at five-thirty in the morning." Luna replied sleepily. "So she stayed up all night, drinking coffee with caffeine pills in it."
"Looks to me like she's about to run out of gas." Artemis remarked, noting the decreased effect of the pep pills Serena was now popping directly, then washing down with her coffee.
"Oh, dear." Luna sighed. "I'll have to stow away to keep her out of trouble."
"I'll help." Artemis volunteered.
"Thank you, Artemis, I'll need all the help I can get." Luna remarked, as the two felines disappeared under some luggage. The other Scouts appeared, along with about four other volunteers and the government crew. The caffeine's effects abandoned Serena as the boat launched and headed toward the island. They landed just as the sun was peeking over the horizon.
"Wow!" Minako gasped. "It's like a jungle!"
"So much growth in so little time." Ami muttered. "What could have caused this?"
"We'll find out when we get there." Rei replied.
"Should we let Serena sleep or wake her up?" Lita asked.
"Let's wait until we get to the island." Rei decided.
"Not used to these early hours, is she?" the captain asked. "Don't worry, when we get to the island I'll have the medic give her a shot of adrenaline. That'll wake her up."
Yume opened his eyes. The mechanisms to which he was connected had detected a set of anomalies on an incoming buoyancy-type vessel which they could not handle on their own. Overriding their autonomous functions, he peered through the eyes of the techno-organic wildlife. Scanners indicated that all but seven of the organisms on the incoming vessel were unremarkable G-class organisms, with perhaps some intriguing features which could bear looking at later, when the techno-organic colony was better established. The anomalies, five bipeds and two quadrupeds, needed to be studied, however. Long-range scans indicated no other such organisms anywhere in the hemisphere. He would have to acquire these.
One of them appeared to be suffering some form of somno-deprivation, temporarily treated with adrenaline, with predictable results. This one would be the easiest to capture.
Serena roared in rage as the adrenaline entered her body, and her eyes snapped opeShe She lashed out at the first thing she saw, but fortunately Rei and Minako were holding her down. She panted, then glanced around in confusion.
"It's okay, Serena, we just gave you a shot of adrenaline to wake you up." the medic said. "Care for an energy bar?"
"Thanks." Serena said. "Why didn't you just shake me?"
"You didn't go to sleep last night, did you?" the medic asked. "I thought not. Probably kept yourself awake with caffeinated beverages or pep pills. Not good for a girl your age, and for your information, shaking you wouldn't have worked in your state."
"It's just that I hate shots." Serena replied, rubbing at the sore place on her arm.
"Well, it's all over now." the medic assured her, handing her an energy bar, as well as a rice ball. "Now, eat that, you'll need something in your stomach." Serena obediently ate. "I'd recommend a nap about lunchtime, too."
"Promise not to wake me up with another shot?" Serena asked.
"I promise." the medic replied. The team disembarked, and began to look around.
"Look at this!" Ami gasped, pointing into the boughs of some odd form of tree. "Looks like some kind of monkey!"
"Let's bag it and have it examined." the captain suggested. The creature bounded from the tree and began to explore the boat, where it was easily captured.
"Odd..." the medic said, looking at a tissue sample. "This creature appears to be organic flesh existing in symbiosis with highly advanced technology."
"Some sort of cyborg?" the captain asked as the volunteers gathered more specimens, careful not to damage anything.
"This is more well-integrated than cyborgs as we know them, captain." the medic said. "I dare say we're dealing with techno-organic life." Just then the "monkey" cut through the bars of its cage with its claws and used beams from its eyes to stun the captain and medic, before it escaped. The rest of the crew tried top top it, but they were stunned as well.
With the crew stunned, Yume was free to separate the anomalies from the normals. The two quadrupeds stuck close to the sleepy one. He decided the easiest way to get them to separate was to shift the path. He willed the plants to fle fle about, creating several forks. The sleepy one strayed from the path. Now was his chance!
"Serena! Pay attention to where you're going!" Luna cried as Serena strayed from the path. Artemis panted along behind, but would have concurred. Suddenly the vines on the odd, alien trees began to move, ensnaring the cats.
"Huh?" Serena muttered, then noticed her companions' plight. "Artemis! Luna!" Fueled by adrenaline of her own making, she transformed and prepared to fight the foliage. She leaped into the air, preparing to cut the cats down from the vines, but she was ensnared before she could do so. The vines were strong and super-prehensile, able to bend anywhere at will. Sailor Moon was repositioned to be easier to carry, and the vines began to pass her along up the ash cone toward the summit, where she was placed in a chute of some kind. She slid down the chute until it opened on a dark chamber. She sprung to her feet, concentrating on keeping her adrenaline pumping so she could stay awake.
"Greetings." a voice said. A portal opened, and Serena saw what looked like a body floating in some kind of liquid. The liquid drained out, and the glass surrounding the body opened. The body was lowered down on cables to the floor, where they promptly detached. The plug-holes closed as if they had never been, and two eyes opened, gazing on Serena as one would gaze on a pretty painting. The stranger's deeply tanned skin showed no signs of tan-lines. His eyes were larger than normal, and very expressive, though they currently displayed only an intermediate level of amusement. His mouth sported the kind of lips Serena had always thought of as "kissable," even moreso than Darien's, and curved up in a slightly mischievous one-sided smile. His muscles were well-toned, but not massive, and rippled as he moved toward her. It was impossible for Sailor Moon to determine how old he was, for his appearance remained youthful despite the shoulder-length mane of ivory hair he wore. He was unclothed, and his genitalia were clearly visible--a nine-inch penis and testicles the size of golf balls. Serena could not repress an aroused moan. "I do not wish you any harm. My name is Yume. I command this vessel."
"Where is the crew?" Sailor Moon asked, shoving dirty thoughts out of her mind as best she could.
"I am the captain, crew, tactical computer and sole inhabitant." Yume said.
"You're a robot?"
"Not exactly." Yume said. "Long ago my people learned to integrate tiny machines into our bodies, especially our neural nets. Since then, we have lived symbiotically with machines. To answer your question, I'm not a robot, but a techno-organic being. To answer the question you HAVEN'T asked, I roamed the cosmos for four hundred and twenty-one years before crashing here, and though I had to enter emergency stasis-sleep after the crash, I fully intend to live another five hundred."
"That's a heck of a lifespan." Sailor Moon muttered.
"Having your own private army of instant-repair nanites does have its advantages."
"What are you doing here?"
"I was sent to establish a colony on an uninhabited world, but I ended up crashing on this one. The recent eruption lent power to the geothermal generators, thus enabling the rest of the ship's functions to come online. I had it move directly into the crater of the ash cone so that it--and I--could take advantage of the wealth of geothermal energy."
"You're harnessing the volcano!" Sailor Moon gasped.
"And profiting by it, my dear." Yume said. "Soon enough the ship will be repaired, and I will be able to use the geothermal energy I've gathered to catalyze the fusion core, thus reestablishing my space-travel ability."
"Then you'll leave?" Sailor Moon asked. Yume shrugged.
"Depends on how the colony here goes." he said. "Anyway, that's neither here nor there. You have needs which must be attended to." Yume made a gesture, and Serena's clothes were ripped away. She gasped. Cables descended from the ceiling and wrapped around her limbs. One inserted itself in her vagina, another inserted itself in her anus, and a third forced its way down her throat. She felt it branch off and enter both her lungs and her esophagus. Fresh air flowed into her lungs from one of the branches, while food flowed into her stomach from the other. The cables in her nether orifices began to vibrate. Serena moaned, despite her revulsion. A helmet descended from the ceiling and placed itself over her head and eyes. Lights within the helmet began to flash, and Serena found it harder and harder to fight. The cables made her come, and her body bucked and writhed with the strength of the orgasm. She couldn't help but feel sleepy, and her body went limp in the grip of the cables as she drifted to sleep.
"I can't find Serena, Artemis or Luna." Ami said. "Where do you suppose they've gotten themselves to?"
"Now that you mention it, I can't even figure out where we are." Minako responded. "I've tried backtracking, but you're the first person I've run into."
"The paths are changing." Sailor Mars said from the treetops, jumping down to join her friends. "We've been separated from the other volunteers on purpose."
"Can you tell where Serena is?" Minako asked.
"The vines were moving her toward the ash cone." Mars said. "Faster than I could follow, so I backtracked and found the cats strung up by the same kind of vines. I used my powers to get them down, but after that, everything started secreting this weird flame-retardant substance."
"We'd better use our powers sparingly then." Minako suggested.
"We'd better hurry." Luna said, peeking out from behind Rei's shoulder. "If those vines toss Serena into the lava, I'll never forgive myself!"
"Hey! The path is changing!" Ami gasped, pointing at the shifting plants.
"Looks like the new path's leading us right to the lava cone." Sailor Mars muttered. "It's most likely a trap, but this looks like the fastest way to catch up with Serena."
"But where's Jupiter?" Ami asked.
"I'm pretty sure the path will lead her to us, or us to her, whichever." Mars replied. "Whatever power controls this island, it wants all of us." Ami and Minako swallowed nervously. Artemis jumped into Minako's arms, shivering in fear.
"Well...if this island wants us so bad, it's going to have all the us it can handle!" Minako exclaimed. She and Ami transformed as quickly as they could, and the three Scouts charged down the straight, narrow path.
"Ah, I see you're awake." Yume said. Glancing around, Serena was amazed to find she was no longer in the grip of the cables, but instead, was in some strange kind of room that was all bed and pillows. The only other occupants were Yume and a sleeping girl who looked exactly like Serena.
"Yaa!" she exclaimed, crabbing backwards until she encountered the padded wall. "What's that?"
"That?" Yume asked, amused. "That's you."
"A clone?" Serena asked angrily.
"Hardly." Yume responded. "Clones' lifespans tend to be so short. I instead a f a form of transtemporal extraction."
"Huh?" Serena asked blankly, one eyebrow cocked in confusion.
"Forgive me, I suppose I am being a little obtuse. You see, time, as my people know it, moves like a path, beginning at the Origin, the creation of the universe, and moving forward unto...infinity. Now, every choice made by any life-form is a fork in that path. Just because you choose one path, doesn't mean the other one ceases to exist. Understand so far?"
"I think so." Serena said.
"Good." Yume said. "Now, the concept of divisible timelines is that every time you make a choice, or take a particular 'fork' on our proverbial 'path,' there is a version of you who took the other fork, and she exists on that path just as you exist on yours. We just can't see them because there's a fence on the other side of the path that forces you to only see your path. Let me know if I get confusing."
"I'm okay." Serena remarked.
"Good." Yume said. "Now, suppose you had a crane that could reach over the fence, grab somebody from the other path, and bring them to your path."
"That'd be awfully rude!" Serena exclaimed.
"Yes, and I suppose there's a version of me that's very angry with me right now." Yume chuckled. "For you see, that's what I've done. Using transtemporal extraction, I reached across the fence to a 'path' where instead of wrapping you in cables and all that, I merely sedated you. I grabbed the version of you from that 'path' and brought her over to this one. That's why this other you is still sleeping."
"Why do you want two of me?" Serena asked. "I mean, Rei can't even stand ONE of me!"
"Well, I'll only have to deal with one." Yume said. "You see, I've erased your other self's memories of having been on the island. In a moment, I'll use another piece of my technology to transport her back to your house, where she'll live out your normal life just as if she'd merely overslept and missed the boat."
"What happens to me?"
"I'll decide that later." Yume said. "Right now, this little you is going home." The second Serena disappeared in a shimmering lightshow, and the other Serena was once again alone with Yume.
"What about me?" Serena asked.
"I'll wager you'd like something a little more substantial than the rudimentary paste I gave you via the tubes." he said, and a panel opened in the wall, from which protruded a mini-table laden with food from numerous fast-food restaurants. "If I've properly deciphered the data from the connection I established via your artificial satellites to what you call the 'internet,' the bits of gold I had my food-gatherers leave on the counters should be more than sufficient to pay for the food which was taken." Yume stated. "It's paid for. Eat." Serena scooted herself toward the food, seating herself on one side of the table. Yume seated himself opposite her, mimicking her use of the utensils until he mastered the technique himself. The chopsticks seemed to give him the most trouble, much to Serena's amusement. She couldn't suppress a giggle as he continually dropped the rice, mostly on himself. He laughed as well, and soon they were both laughing together. She reached across the table and repositioned the chopsticks in his hand, then showed him in slow-motion how to move his hand to use them properly.
"That's much better." she sighed as she finished her meal. Struck by a whimsy, she crawled under the little table and began to lick the spilled rice off Yume's body. He chuckled and retracted the table, then laid back and let Serena work. His penis became hard as she ran her mouth over his body, gaining three inches in length. When Serena saw this, she moaned and began to stroke it gently with her fingertips. Licking her lips, she opened her mouth and let her head descend toward the head of the penis before her. Her lips stretched as she took it in her mouth. There was no way she'd be able to take it down her throat. Pulling back, she straddled Yume and held his penis gently as she lowered herself onto it. I'm so wet. she thought, moaning softly as her dripping snatch stretched to accommodate the alien invader. So wet, so hot. she thought, her eyes half-closed as she surrendered to sudden lust. Yume's hands were at her hips, lifting her up and bringing her back down, shoving himself deeper into her. He rolled then, bringing himself to the top. He was at her cervix now, thrusting deep inside her, and Serena couldn't think for the pleasure. She cried out as an orgasm hit her like a ton of bricks. She bucked, thrashed and squeezed her eyes shut against the fire in her loins. Yume continued to thrust, and Serena felt another climax building. Yume tweaked one of her nipples and brought it on a little early. Another tweak, and Serena exploded with a third closely on the heels of the second. She felt him tense for a moment, and then he erupted inside her like a volcano. Serena screamed, as her fourth and final orgasm made the others pale in comparison.
"Look at that!" Rei exclaimed. "It's a spaceship! And it's plugging the lava flow!"
"Listen..." Ami said. "Hear that? Geothermal generators, like the one we took a tour of last month."
"So that's what's powering it." Rei muttered.
"So how do we get in?" Lita asked.
Consciousness returned to Serena in stages. Images flooded into her mind. Rei, Ami, Lita and Minako, along with Artemis and Luna, were standing on the lip of the volcano's crater. Where was she? Outside? By a window?
"No." Yume's voice said. Was she going crazy? Was he speaking in her mind. "No." the voice said again. "You are plugged into the ship's systems, just like me. The techno-organic bonding process is a success."
"You mean I'm...like you?"
"Yes." Yume said. "The easiest way to learn about you was to make you part of the colony, the hive mind at whose nucleus I reside."
"But..."
"Enough." Yume said. Serena felt her will melt at his words, and a part of her became incredibly turned on. "Open the door, Serena. Let your friends inside." Serena at first didn't know how, but as soon as she began to wonder, the information was piped into her mind. She sent the command to the main door, and it opened, the loud grinding of gears announcing the fact to the other Sailor Scouts. "Good." Yume said. "Now that your physical transformation is complete, the mental one will not take long." She felt soft, caressing fingers in her mind, and part of her cooed with pleasure. Another part remained afraid, however. She felt him reaching into her mind, consoling the fearful part of herself, until it calmed. "This won't hurt a bit." he said.
"Look!" Minako exclaimed as the door opened.
"Let's go!" Rei exclaimed. "Be ready for anything!" The Scouts rushed into the ship, surprised that they encountered no resistance. The corridor opened out into a large main hall, in which two bodies floated in fluid. One was an attractive-looking male. The other was Serena.
"Serena!" Minako cried, pounding on the glass.
"We have to get her out of there!" Lita said.
"She might not survive the decompression." Ami cautioned. "We have to find the..." The fluid in Serena's enclosure began to drain away, dripping off her nude body and the cables and tubes plugged into it and filling every orifice. A seam opened in the middle, and Serena was lowered to the floor. Plugs were withdrawn, the wounds they left healing visibly. The tubes in Serena's mouth, nose, anus and vagina withdrew, and the blonde young woman opened her eyes.
"What kept you?" Serena asked.
"What happened to you?" Rei asked, not believing her own eyes.
"No fair, I asked first." Serena replied, a ripple of amusement in her voice.
"We had to climb this blasted ash-cone." Lita said. "We didn't get a free ride on the Vine Express like you."
"There's something different about her..." Luna began, gazing at the blonde cautiously from behind Rei's ankle.
"True." a male voice stated, and the Scouts' attention was drawn to the unheeded release of the exotically-handsome male. "She's been integrated into the colony's hive-mind. She's part of me, now, as I am part of her, as we are part of the island's entire ecosystem."
"What? How?"
"Techno-organic bonding." the male replied.
"It's not so bad." Serena said. "It's kind of nice. Why don't you stay with us?"
"You won't take us without a fight!" Rei shouted to the male.
"To be honest, we knew you wouldn't understand." he said as he easily dispersed Rei's Mars Fire. His eyes glowed, and the Sailor Scouts staggered, caught in the effects of his Vertigo Beam. "Serena is perfectly happy in her new role as my companion, and as a breeder for the colony. She will produce offspring to help make our species stronger...as will you." Cables descended from the ceiling as, at a gesture, Yume tore the girls' clothes to shreds. The Scouts were lifted high into the air, cables and tubes penetrating their orifices.
The world went black.
"What?" Serena gasped.
"Power failure." Ami's voice said. Serena felt hands at her neck and almost panicked, but then the VR helmet was removed. "Third one this week. Somebody must be pirating power or something."
"I don't suppose it matters." Serena sighed, unzipping the front of her suit and stepping out. She leaned backwards, compensating for her swollen belly. "I should be home getting dinner ready for Darien anyway. So, where were you when my character was being turned into a mindless breeder anyway, Rei-chan?" she asked accusingly.
"Climbing that blasted ash-cone, like we said in the game!" Rei snarled.
"I thought we discussed this." Serena said. "Let yourself get caught by the vines, it's a free ride. Then, with all our powers working together, we bust out."
"Guys, I didn't buy this VR equipment so you could fight over it." Ami said. "Mina? Where are you going?"
"I've got to go check on Artemis." Minako replied. "Last time there was a power failure, he had a panic attack."
"Fine." Serena said. "See you at the baby shower tomorrow?"
"Wouldn't miss it." Minako responded with a wink.
"You should go, Serena, take care of that husband of yours, ne?" Ami chimed. "And don't let him hurt that baby, either. Remember, oral sex only in the third trimester."
"Ha! That'd be something if my water broke while he was eating me out!" Serena guffawed. "Later, guys." She hobbled out of the little apartment and managed to get down the stairs in one piece. Rei appeared at her elbow, steadying her as she hailed a cab.
"I'm sorry, Serena, I really should have paid attention while you were brainstorming last night." she said. "It's just, you've always been kind of ditzy, and now that you're pregnant and everything, well I guess I just dismissed it as you being a typical ditz with her brains in her crotch."
"What, you thought I was trying to get you all in position to get a good hard screw?"
"Pretty much." Rei responded apologetically. "I'm sorry." She helped Serena into the cab. "You tell Darien hi for me, okay?"
"Of course." Serena responded, kissing Rei on the cheek.
"Take care of yourself, Serena." Rei remarked as she closed the door. The cab drove off just as the first sprinkles of rain began to fall. "I hate to admit it," she mused, "but that baby seems to be straightening her out." She raised her hand and a cab stopped at the curb. She gave the driver her address and climbed inside, letting go of fears for the welfare of Sailor Moon or the hope for the future she carried inside her.
