Chapter One:
The town seemed to be swimming in its eerie silence, the silence that was rumored to be the fault of Vash the Stampede. The silence left behind after the slaughter of all the peoples of many villages, towns, and cities. Entire countryside’s went into chaos at the sound of his name and threats of Vash were used as revenge to solve petty rivalries and prevent further blackmail. It was a dangerous way of life for the people who had witnessed what Vash the Stampede could do. It was a dangerous way of life for everyone.
“Another town, a hundrore ore lives lost…” Came a deep female voice from the shadows. “Will it ever end, Vash?” She asked into the wind. Long mahogany hair splashed onto the ground as she fell to her knees, her own deep red blood staining the sand around her. “I hate you… I HATE YOU!!!” She screamed into the air, her voice swallowed by the surrounding atmosphere, heavy with the scent of blood and burnt, rotting flesh.
The smoldering ruins left behind stung her golden-blue eyes as she stepped up to the ashes of what seemed to be an old saloon by the burnt sign at her feet. Shaking her head made her dizzy quickly.
“Well this appears to be quite recent. He couldn’t have traveled too far. Perhaps twenty-four hours ahead of me. I had better hurry.” She lifted her canteen to her full pink lips and took a small sip, enough to wet her tongue. “Long red over coat, blonde hair, shady gold glasses.” She sighed and wrapped her black cloak tighter around her when the wind picked up speed. “This might be harder than it was before.”
A loud gunshot from behind snapped her back to reality. “I see you have witnessed more of his madness.”
“Yes, though this isn’t the worst I’ve seen.” She bowed her head.
“You still want revenge-”
“My brother’s death was no one’s fault besides Vash the Stampede’s.” She itched her arm. “It’s his fault my father went crazy. He deserves to die.” She turned te mae man behind her, his face covered by a dirty yellow mask, green eyes glaring the young girl down. “Why are you here Netamu? “
“I have a job for you, Yumeyu. One you might like.”
“How much will I get?” She asked, bringing the canteen back to her mouth.
“How much do you want?” He asked, making her cough on her water.
“What? Who is this, Netamu?” She asked, wiping the liquid from her chin.
“Actually, it’s a double assassination. A mister Nicholas Wolfwood and Vash the Stampede.” He grinned beneath the mask when Yumeyu looked up at him, her eyes wide.
“Vash, Vash the Stampede?” When he nodded she looked back to the wreckage. “I want three times as much as I normally receive for each of their heads.”
“That can be achieved. The way you prove they’re dead will be different. I want witnesses who knew them both and their heads. The witnesses must be alive, that’s all I ask.”
“I will do as such, Netamu. However if I return to you with the witnesses along with their heads and I do not receive my requested amount you will find yourself knee-deep in your own rds.rds. Do we have an understanding?”
“You always get paid-”
“No, I don’t. This is Vash the Stampede and I will not stand to be cheated out of such a large prize. You swear on your father’s forlorn grave that I will get my money.”
“You swear on you brothers pitiful grave that you will return with their heads. No heads and witnesses, no prize.”
“I hate you.” She growled under her breath as Netamu grabbed her shoulders and crushed her back to his chest.
“There are other punishments for not finishing a job.”
Yumeyu winced and tried to pull away. “Get your filthy hands off me, Netamu!” She whirled and thwacked him upon the side of his thick head. “Touch me again and I'll tear your head off.”
While rubbing his wound her iron, plated wrist had caused he answered. “I will consider that self-defense and not punish you. Just kill them.”
She nodded and waited to hear his footsteps fade behind her. “This is going to be one long night…”
