Santa Monica: Honesty

Title: Santa Monica: Side fic
Rating: R for language
Pairing(s): Fuuma x Kamui
Genre: Drama-Angst \\ AU
Chapter: 1 of 2
Comments: I was trying to think of ways to continue my other projects when my X muse decided to butt in and promptly shoved my YnM one out of the limelight. (I think sometimavinaving a Kamui muse is worse than having a Fuuma one >.>; ) So conspiring with my X angst muse, this was born. It takes place a couple hours after the third part of Santa Monica

The phone\'s insistent ringing dragged Seishirou out of his sleep, golden eyes flickering towards the blood-red numerals glowing from the clock on the night table. Eleven o\'clock. He hadn\'t been in bed but an hour it would seem, the phone\'s shrill ring rang again from behind him, demanding his attention.

Sitting up, he reached out towards it, picking the receiver up and considered who would be calling him at this time of night. It couldn\'t be the Sumeragi, as the young man didn\'t have the number for his room, but it was always possible, he supposed, that he had asked for it later on in the evening after he had left. Bringing it up against one ear, he spoke quietly. \"Hello...”

The voice which answered was most certainly not the young artist, which strangely disappointed him, but then what would have been the oddst het he would actually have called him after that little scene earlier.

\"Seishirou, I\'m very sorry to be calling this late... but I needed someone to talk too and some advice would be nice too actually.\"

Seishirou murmured into the phone that he didn\'t mind as his eyes scanned the table the phone was on for the cigarettes he was sure he had set down there earlier. He spotted the white package hiding behind the bulk of the ugly phone and leaned over to snatch them up, giving the paper and foil package a disgusted look as he discovered it was empty. Excusing himself for a moment, he sat the phone down on the bed, slid off the side and walked out of the bedroom, into the living room towards the trench coat hanging by the door.

Slipping a hand into the left outside pocket he found the new pack bought earlier in the day and walked back to the bedroom while ripping the small bit of plastic and foil off, tossing the trash in the small basket next to the bedside table. He sat down on the bed, picking the lighter up as he freed one of the cigarettes. Placing it between his lips, he lit it before picking the phone back up. They weren\'t his usual brand, but they weren\'t really all that bad either.

\"I\'m backw whw what is this about you and Kamui again? Have a fight?\" he inquired, breathing the smoke out, cigarette now resting in his free hand.

\"No, but I have been working late as you know... he most likely thinks that’s an excuse for something else...”

Seishirou stifled the quiet sigh that wanted to escape as he listened to the other younger man. \"Have you told him *why* you\'re working late? I\'d think he\'d quit being so paranoid if he knew...”

\"Seishirou, it wouldn\'t be a very good surprise if I told him that I was working so I could take us both back to Japan in order to visit family, now would it?\" Seishirou smirked around the cigarette once more between his lips as he noted the exasperation in Monou\'s deep voice. He knew he\'d get a rise of him with the earlier comment and he wasn\'t disappointed.

\"True enough, but perhaps if you told me why you thought he was going to break it off?\"

There was a soft long sigh and then the soft rustle of paper. Off in the background, he heard a sudden squawk and something hitting the floor with a small thud. Apparently, Monou\'s cat, Shinken, was after the bird again. He suppressed the chuckle that wanted to escape, waiting for the other man to speak.

\"I came home and he wasn\'t here, instead there was a note laying on the table and he wants me to meet him tomorrow night for dinner, the way this looks though, I think he may be breaking things off with me, and the dinner is just an excuse to get together one last time in order to decide what goes to whom and other matters that go along with the dissolving of a relationship like ours.\"

\"Now you\'re the one being paranoid, how do you know that he\'s going to break up? He might have something of a surprise planned...” There was a bit of silence after that, broken moments later by a steady purr of a pleased feline.

\"I want to say that you might be right, but there\'s something that’s been nagging at the back of my mind for the last several weeks. There\'s this guy on the promenade, he\'s not always there, but most of the time he is... he doesn\'t really do anything beyond sit there... but I think Kamui has an interest in him. I don\'t really *blame* him for it, the guy is rather easy on the eyes... it\'s just...”

\"You\'d rather Kamui didn\'t get too cozy with him, eh?\"

\"Right... that is one of the things that\'s been eating at me since I found the note and Kamui not here, normally he\'s here asleep in our bed. I\'m thinking he might have hooked up with that guy and decided to leave me.\"

\"Ah... well perhaps if you can give me a description, I can find him tomorrow and ask him.\"

\"Why not? It couldn\'t hurt anything... from what I\'ve seen; he\'s similar to Kamui in his type of build... but taller, black hair, green eyes. He usually is wearing something that sets him apart from the usual crowd that hangs around there I noticed.\"

Seishirou was quite glad that his cigarette had burnt itself out, or he might have burnt a hole in the carpet when the description decided to ring a clear bell in his mind causing him to drop the cigarette butt to the floor. \"I\'ll talk to him tomorrow, Fuuma. I still don\'t believe that the boy is going to break up with you... you\'ve been together for how long now?\"

A pause, then a small sigh. \"Going on four years now.\"

\"Right. So stop worrying over *might be\'s* and worry about getting some sleep. You have the day off tomorrow so you might just set your clock for two hours before your dinner with Kamui so you\'ll be well rested.\"

\"I don\'t have the --\" Fuuma began.

\"You do now.\" Seishirou told him, leaning over to retrieve the butt from the floor, pitching it in the trash as he continued. \"You\'ve been working oursours a day for the last week, you need sleep and if I have to come over there and lock your apartment door in the early morning to force you to, I will, trust me.\"

He smirked as the younger man gave him a small rude sound and Seishirou was sure had he been in the same room instead of on the phone, he would have gotten the \'bird\' from Monou as well.

\"You can be an ass at times, Seishirou.\" Fuuma said, the tone of the voice sounding slightly sullen.

\"All part of my charm, Fuu-chan.\" he quipped, smirking, and mentally counting down for the explosion he knew was coming.

Precisely as he hit one, there came a deep growl over the phone. \"I told you *not* to call *me* that!\"

Seishirou chuckled softly under his breath at the words the teen was muttering not-quite under his breath at him. \"You\'ve been studying with Kazuki-sensei I see, that makes four languages that you\'re able to cuss me out in now.\"

\"Go to hell, Sakurazuka-kacho.\" the voice on the other end snapped ipanepanese.

He grinned, having fun getting the younger man riled up. Though he doubted that Fuuma even realized why he did it half the time, but at least he wasn\'t being sulky over his lover now. \"Already been there, it\'s to hot and dry, and the food sucks.\" He began another small mental countdown and again wasn\'t disappointed when the dial tone began to hum in his ear when he reached one yet again.

Chuckling as he hung up, he stretched and sighed before lighting another cigarette and walking back into the living room, moving to stand in front of one of the floor to ceiling windows, studying the view while smoking. The description fit the Sumeragi to a tee and he wondered idly if there was a chance he just might lose the other man to Shirou Kamui.

Turning away from the window after several minutes, he snuffed out the half smoked cigarette and returned to his bedroom to resume his interrupted sleep. He would just have to make sure there was no possibility of that happening, because while he may not have cared if he actually gained the Sumeragi as a lover, he damn sure wasn\'t going to let him be taken by another man out from under him.
