The Chronicles
A Pokémon Story One
Love VS Friendship
By Spiral Breeze

The best of friends, ever since certain circumstances brought them together, perhaps it had been coincidence, or maybe it was fate. Whatever it was they were together and virtually inseparable like the beach and water: always together, never apart, connected for all eternity neither one knowing why it is with the other. Ash and Misty were similar to that analogy. They had been traveling together with Brock for about three years; therefore it was hard for either of them to imagine their lives without the other. In the beginning, they didn\'t really like each other, Misty just tagged along because Ash owed her a bike, but after a few months, all that changed. Misty started to love and trust Ash with her life, however they still had that \"making fun of each other\" relationship. They\'d call each other names and then Ash would finalize the \"fight\" with: \"Then why don\'t you leave and stop fallowing me!\" and Misty would stop and say \"Because, you still owe me for my bike Ash Ketchum!” And they\'d chase each other down the long dirt road. It was like that nearly everyday. They loved each other and each one knew it, but they never really showed it. They kept their true feelings secret, locked inside of them. Misty thought hard about how she would tell Ash that she loved him, but she never carried out any of her plans. As for Ash, he thought he was being a man, by not doing stupid things like Brock did to win a girls heart. He thought that he should let everything fall into place and not try to make things happen. So instead he flirted with her, called her cute; and did other little things that he knew made Misty feel special on the inside even though she didn\'t show it on the outside. Thus, the two both waited for Mother Nature to bring them together, instead of them making the moves.

One day, while they were resting by the side of the road, Ash decided to do a little exploring. He walked further into the thick forest and soon heard the rushing sound of water. He followed the sound and came out into a clearing where there was a beautiful waterfall. Ash decided then and there, that this was the spot he was going to tell Misty his true feelings. He knew that she loved anything to do with water or anything that was the color blue for that matter, so he ran back to the road and quickly grabbed Misty\'s hand without saying a word, and ran back with her to the waterfall.

“Hey! Where are you taking me?” Misty gasped out of breath. “Get off my hand!” She shouted, but suddenly stopped when she saw the waterfall. “Wow… It\'s beautiful…” She said in awe as she gazed at the mesmerizing sight.

The two best friends stood there gazing upon the towering waterfall. It was beautiful, yet there was also something mysterious about it. The mist and haze that rose from the surface of the water held a rainbow in mid air, and the rushing of the falling water wasn\'t loud and noisy but musical and soothing. It was almost heaven.

“Yeah...” Ash murmured, he too, was hypnotized by the exotic scenery. Yet, he was still carefully thinking about the choice of words, which he would soon speak. The next few phrases out of his mouth could either expand or destroy his current relationship with Misty. He turned his head and brought all his attention to his pretty red head friend. “I wanted to ask you something... well... actually, tell you something...” He looked down at his hands and realized he still had her hand in his, nevertheless he took her other hand and gently pulled her a bit closer. “...Misty? I… I like you… I mean… I love you…”

Misty blushed a bright red, and without realizing what she was doing or saying, she replied:

“I love you too Ash.” And kissed him tenderly on the lips, it was the moment they were both waiting for.

Ash was very surprised to say the least, but he didn\'t back away, he just hugged her closer and closer and closer, until…

“Hey! So that\'s where you guys ran off to!” Brock exclaimed as he came into the clearing. Yet, he wasn\'t prepared to see his two best friends in each other\'s arms kissing.
“Ok, so that\'s how it really is with the two of you.”

Ash and Misty were extremely embarrassed, they hadn\'t thought of anyone following them. Brock knew that they liked each other and didn\'t show it, but he didn\'t know that they were doing things behind his back. He was angry but he thought to himself, “At least I didn\'t catch them in a more compromising position.”

“Uh... lunch is ready.” Brock said and quickly left, since he never got to kiss anyone, he hated seeing anyone else getting kissed.

After Brock left, all they could do was stare at each other and a few moments later they burst out laughing.

“Misty...” Ash finally broke the laughter, but was still slightly giggling himself. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

Misty gazed into his chocolate eyes, with her head slightly tilted to her right side, a smile playing across her flushed face.

“Yeah.” It was short but it was all Ash wanted to hear.

Then, holding hands, they walked out of the forest and back to the main road. They sat down on a blanket on the ground and began eating. During lunch, everyone was silent, they didn\'t know what to say to each other, but Brock suddenly burst out in laughter.

“So, are the two of you official?” He inquired with a raised eyebrow.

The young couple blushed as they glanced at each other and turned back to Brock.

“Yeah... I guess.” Ash shrugged his shoulders he didn\'t really care what Brock had to say, he was more interested in his sandwich.

“Man, I\'m eighteen and never even had a girlfriend, and here you are with your first true love!” The tan boy whined. “Why must I be so lonely?”

Pikachu laughed and Togepi, the little egg Pokémon jumped with excitement.

“Aww, come on Brock, you\'ll find that special someone soon!” Misty soothed her best friend as she looked at Pikachu who was hysterically laughing on the ground while Togepi danced about happily.

“You know, you\'re probably right.” Brock replied but then quickly became serious using his infamous Gym Leaders voice to emphasize the fact that he meant business. “But now back to you two, you\'re both at that age now, and since you are officially boyfriend and girlfriend, I think I better have “the talk” with you.”
“Oh, about the Pidgey and the Beedrill? My mom had that talk before I left Pallet Town.” Ash chuckled.

“My sisters really didn\'t have time to talk to me about that stuff, I read about it in books.” Misty said softly, she was a bit uncomfortable with this discussion.

“Well, I guess, I wont have to embarrass myself with all the information I do know, and how little experience I have.” Brock chuckled full heartedly, but suddenly went back to being serious. “And, you better not consider sex until after you\'re married!”

Ash and Misty knew that they were too young for that, but they also knew that with Brock watching the only thing they could do was hold hands. They didn\'t see themselves becoming that serious for a very long time anyway.

~* ))O(( *~

After a few months, they really matured and grew more and more as a couple. They could tell that Brock had the slightest bit of jealousy in him, but it didn\'t matter as long as they were together. It was the type of true love that most people could only dream, write, or read about. Every other second Misty was in Ash\'s strong arms. He had grown so much since he last left Pallet; he was a good three or four inches taller than Misty now. He was no longer that pathetic and skinny little ten year old anymore, and as for Misty, she had grown to be quiet the young lady; she started wearing her hair down and she never dressed like a tomboy anymore; nonetheless they wanted to be alone, they were sick of Brock watching their every move. However, as Ash and Misty grew closer together, Pikachu and Ash grew farther apart. Even Brock couldn\'t understand it, although he had a strong feeling that there was no breaking Ash and Misty apart. Sometimes, Pikachu would even go as far as to pretend he was chocking so Ash would pay attention to him.

“Be careful Pikachu, you had me scared there for a second.” Was all Ash would say when he ran to the yellow Pokémon\'s side.

Afterward Ash would go back to Misty and talk about whatever they wished they could do but couldn\'t. One day they even talked about running away, while Brock was sleeping. Poor Pikachu began to cry as he listened to the conversation pretending to be asleep next to Togepi. Pikachu had found his new best friend in Togepi. They were almost as close as Ash and Misty were, but with a big brother and little sister relationship.

“Misty, I want to be with you forever, for the rest of my life, but its just Brock. He thinks we\'re so young, I know we are, but we could start a new life together, just you and me!” Ash enthusiastically.

“But Ash, we can\'t, Brock would go crazy!” Misty shook her head, honestly sometimes she didn\'t know what went on in that head of his. “And besides, what about The Johto League Championships?”

“Yeah...” The ebony haired boy nodded suddenly remembering his goal.

“You know, Ash, you haven\'t been paying much attention to Pikachu lately.” Misty whispered as she glanced at Pikachu and Togepi\'s sleeping bag. “And Togepi seems so sad these days.”

The egg shaped Pokémon woke up and started whimpering. Pikachu stood up and allowed her to sit on his back and then carried her over to where Ash and Misty were sitting.

(Ash, I miss you!) Pikachu exclaimed with tears in his big dark brown eyes.

(Mommy…) Poor little Togepi whimpered as she began to cry.

“Aww, don\'t cry Togepi, I\'m here.” Misty whispered softly to her baby Pokémon. “I guess neither one of us has been spending any time with our Pokémon.”

Pikachu\'s eyes began to water even more as he looked at Ash.

“Oh, you too Pikachu, I\'m so sorry…” Ash held the electric type tightly in his arms. “It\'s just that... well... I really can\'t explain it. Would the two of you like to come with us?”

(What about your dream to be a Pokémon Master!) Pikachu yelled angrily and gave his trainer and best friend a slap on the face.

“You\'re right… It\'s either The Johto League… or you Misty.” Ash stated sadly, he really wanted both but thought that he had to choose between one or the other, which earned him another slap from Pikachu.

“Ash, you know that you can have both.” Misty said firmly. “I wouldn\'t feel right leaving Brock alone wondering where we are anyway; even though he is annoying, he is our friend after all. Ash you just have to follow your dreams, you can\'t go and make stupid decisions like that. I love you and I want you to achieve your goal.”

Ash smiled and made up his mind right then and there, he would still compete in The Johto League, and they would stay with Brock. Ash and Misty also both promised to pay more attention to their Pokémon. So for now, they were still on the roads of Johto, but there are still many more adventures awaiting them.
