Day Off

Chapter one.

*Schuldig’s POV*

I looked out the window down at the people walking; actually they were running to get out of the rain. It’s going to be a normal rainy day, nothing in store for me. I grinned as I stretched out some. Yup, today is my day off a day that I can actually lay around and not get in trouble for it.

I got up walking over to my nightstand picking up the box of my favourite cigarettes. I took one out and began looking for my lighter.

“Damnit, where did it go?”

I cursed more, as I looked everywhere, not finding it. When I was beginning to throw everything out of my nightstand, a soft but strong knock reached my ears.

“Who is it and what the fuck do you want?”

I glared at the door. Whoever was knocking better have a good reason to… or at least know where my god damn lighter is.

“Schuldig, I need to speak with you.”

Damn. It’s that asshole, Brad. Just what I needed on my day off and here I thought we had agreed on not speaking to each other today.

“Come in.”

Short and to the point, just how Brad likes it. The door opened shortly after and an average height man walked into my room, shutting the door behind him. Bradley Crawford was in his usual suit and tie outfit, his black hair slicked out of his face, and clean silver glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose.

“What do you want?”

He looked at me, his face impassive. He always reminds me of a sculpture; his face never changing from that stone-cold mask. He handed me a lighter and I glared at him when I saw that it was mine.

“Stealing my things again?”

He shrugged and moved to sit in my chair by my desk making himself comfortable. He always acts like an asshole. Always.

“I found it in the kitchen. Thought you might want it.”

I took it from him glaring at him. Who cares where he found it? He should just leave it alone. I lit my cigarette, then placed it between my lips. I took a generous amount of poison into my lungs before returning my gaze to him.

“Here.”

Short and to the point just how I like it. I raised an eyebrow at the envelope that he was now holding out to me. I took it and opened it up. Inside the top page showed a group picture of Weiss, our main enemies now. s has has been the only team that we couldn’t kill easily. Although I think we keep them alive to just have fun. The kittens, as I like to call them, give us plenty to do where Mr. Takatori doesn’t.

“A folder on Weiss how unexciting. What the hell is up with this?”

I looked at him taking in another generous amount of poison before breathing it out. The wonderful effect of nicotine in my body, I can’t live without it.

“There is a paper on each Weiss member. Your mission is to act as if we have kicked you out of the group and you have gone to Weiss to get revenge. You are to become their friend, to trick them from the inside.”

I shook my head at that. So now I’m James Bond, go in, pretend to be someone I’m not, and kill them from the inside. It does sound fun, but I think I might pass. I don’t see good things coming from this. I wonder… did Brad have a vision about this? Why doesn’t he send Nagi or someone else…I’m sure they would be more believable then myself.

“Why me?”

He looked at me his face not changing. Never does. Why should it now?

“You are the only one capable of tricking them. With your ability I am sure you can persuade them into believing you.”

I glared at him. He is obviously not telling the full truth. I am not being sent just because of my power.

“Liar. Why am I really being sent over there?”

He looked at me while taking off his glasses to wipe them off and set back on his nose.

“To be perfectly honest we don’t need you, Schuldig. We could send Nagi and the mission would be complete but we need Nagi’s brains and abilities more then we need yours.”

So it came down to who they needed and didn’t need. I obviously wasn’t on the top of the list of employees needed. I’m surprised with his attitude that he hasn’t actually sent me off on my own. I obviously don’t help out any and my power is being wasted on this pathetic team.

“Where will I live?”

He stood up looking at me. His gaze is colder then anything I could make up. I haven’t met anyone who could stand up to his gaze except myself, but only when I’m strong enough to give him my arrogant grin.

“It’s all in the folder. I expect that you will read it before you leave tomorrow morning.”

I blinked, caught by that. Normally, we have at least a few days to work on the mission and even then we are just trying to protect some goon of Takatori’s. I looked at my watch as he walked past me and out of my room shutting the door softly but not weakly. Nothing about Bradley Crawford is weak, nothing.

I sat down at my desk to start reading the folder. I have till tomorrow morning to be packed and ready to leave the team. During this time, I have to read and memorize everything in this folder then get rid of it. Damn that man and his idiocy. Does he even understand how hard this is going to be? I finished off my cigarette putting it out in the ashtray sitting on my desk. Here is to a long night of work on my day off. I opened the folder looking at the first sheet of paper. It was defiantly going to be a long, long night.
