A/N: I wasn\'t planning on a sequel, but the reviewer that hit The Strange World Through My Eyes inspired me. So, here we go!

Chapter 1: Changes
Ash Ketchum and Pikachu sat in Delia Ketchum\'s kitchen excited about heading to the Orange Islands. Kari Oak sat outside with her boyfriend Brock talking while on a porch swing. She had her head resting on his chest while he had one arm wrapped around her rocking gently. Misas pas playing with Togepi, a baby Egg Pokemon she adopted on their journey, on the porch while Squirtle and Charizard lounged in the sun watching Mr. Mime work in the garden. It seemed like a normal day when the group of travelers stopped in Pallet Town for a rest.
Kari\'s main concern was the fact the group would be traveling more by boat than anything else. She hated boats...loathed them was a better word. To her, mermaids didn\'t need boats. They had their fins to do the work that a boat could do. That was a big concern to Brock, who didn\'t want her to really show everyone she was a mermaid. It was too big of a risk on her and she knew it as well.
\"I could always swim underneath the boat,\" she suggested turning her sea blue eyes toward him. \"That way, no one would see me at all. Or I could turn invisible to them and only be seen by you guys.\" She had so many suggestions that he was actually getting a headache trying to figure out which one was the best move. \"Kar, mind slowing things down a bit?\" he asked. \"We have three days before we go, so we have plenty of time trying to figure it out.\" She sighed. \"Sorry,\" she whispered returning her head to it\'s former position on his chest. He ran his hands through her auburn hair and sighed kissing her forehead gently. \"It\'s all right, baby,\" he whispered holding her closer to him. Misty looked up and sighed. \"Kari, you act like you haven\'t been feeling good lately,\" she noticed. Kari looked up frowning. \"I\'m fine, Misty,\" she said. \"Why shouldn\'t I be?\" \"I don\'t know,\" the red haired girl said to her best friend. \"Since we left Virdian City, you seem like something\'s on your mind more than ever.\"
Brock had to admit he noticed the same as well. Kari wasn\'t her usual self for some reason since they came back from Virdian City. \"Maybe being home has caused some stress?\" he suggested. \"Perhaps,\" Kari sighed. But she knew that wasn\'t the thing.
*FLASHBACK*
Kari sat in the Pokemon Center glancing at the television. As long as she had remained on land, human devices such at this one had always intruigued her. It was turned to the news since Nurse Joy was the type to catch up on things in her spare time. Ash looked at Kari smiling. \"Brock was wondering when you\'d be coming to bed,\" he said seriously. \"Tell him I\'ll be there within ten minutes,\" she answered. He nodded and ran off with Pikachu on his shoulder. She turned back to the television and sighed when a news report came on.
\"In other news, the men that were responsible for poisioning the ocean thirteen years ago will be released neeek eek on good behavior,\" the man said. Kari\'s attention was shot then. She paled severely as she listened to the report. Nurse Joy looked at her in concern. \"Are you all right, Kari?\" she asked. \"Those men...those humans killed my people!\" she said as tears slid down her cheeks. Squirtle jumped in her lap and hugged her close. Joy walked to the couch and rested a hand on the mermaid\'s shoulder causing Kari to jump back. \"Don\'t!\" she cried. Joy jerked back a little. Charizard and Squirtle exchanged a worried look as Kari ran outside jumping in the nearest body of water she could find returning to her mermaid form and sobbed.
*END FLASHBACK*
Kari sighed and stood up. \"I\'m going for a walk,\" she said and left. Charizard and Squirtle headed off with her as if they were a couple of Pokemon Bodyguards. Misty and Brock looked at each other and shrugged in confusion. \"I hope she\'ll be ok,\" Misty said in concern. Brock nodded. \"Me too,\" he said and retreated inside to help Delia with dinner.
The mermaid was deep in thought. \"The week\'s almost up,\" she said to herself and sighed. \"What if they know I survived the attack? What if they come looking for me?\" She couldn\'t bring herself to think of such as she arrived at the Pokemon Institute where her adopted human father, Professor Samuel Oak, worked now. She stepped inside and looked for him. Prof. Oak was teaching some students a few Pokemon tricks when he saw Kari out of the corner of his eye. \"Ah, everyone, this is my daughter Kari,\" he said proudly. \"She\'s proven to be a great Pokemon Master under my training. I see you brought Squirtle and Charizard with you as usual.\" She nodded. \"Papa, I was wondering if we could talk alone,\" she said seriously. He nodded. \"Class dismissed,\" he said and the students left.
\"Something wrong?\" he asked in concern as he sat down. \"Papa, you haven\'t watched the news lately, have you?\" she asked sitting down next to him. He shook his head. \"Been too busy, baby,\" he said. \"Those men that killed my people,\" she said. \"By the end of the week, they\'ll be released on good behavior. I\'m scared they might try to find me.\" He held her close in his arms and sighed. \"To them, they got all the merpeople,\" he said seriously. \"You\'re safe as long as you\'re with your friends. They protect you to the end like you protect them.\" \"I know, but I\'m still scared,\" she said seriously. He kissed her forehead gently. \"I know,\" he said. \"It was a big blow for you to see this happen.\" She sighed nodding. \"Too big of one,\" she said when she saw Muk coming toward them. \"Oh joy, here comes the Pokemon always in need of a bath!\" she groaned.
\"Run while you still can,\" he chuckled and kissed her cheek. \"See you tomorrow.\" She nodded and the three left back for the house.
\"WHAT?!\" Ash said in shock that evening. Kari nodded as she stared out at the stars while lying in a hammock. \"I was scared to tell anyone. I didn\'t know what you guys would think either.\" Misty sighed holding Togepi close to her because of the night air. \"If Team Rocket\'s not enough to bring back your past, now we have these morons to worry about,\" Brock said seriously. \"Papa says there\'s a chance they think I\'m dead, Brock,\" Kari said seriously. \"You have to consider that fact. They never did a headcount of how many were down there. How would they know I\'m alive?\" She rested her head back in her arms and sighed. \"SO what if I\'m not human or full human for that matter?\" she snorted. \"No one knows but you guys.\" \"That\'s true,\" Ash said. Pikachu jumped on Kari\'s stomach and licked her cheek letting her know he was on her side. Squirtle smiled a bit at the sight. Pikachu and Squirtle were the best of friends and he didn\'t mind what the Electric Mouse Pokemon did at times.
\"Are you planning to spend the night out here?\" Misty asked. \"I might,\" Kari sighed. \"Would you like me to stay with you?\" Brock asked. \"That\'s up to you,\" she answered. He chuckled. \"I\'ll stay,\" he said grinning like he saw another Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny. Misty rolled his eyes. \"Don\'t you ever get tired of the fact he\'s always after girls?\" she asked. Kari chuckled. \"Mist, he has you and me to keep him in line,\" she pointed out. \"His ears should hurt from all that pulling we do on them.\" Brock blushed suddenly. \"It\'s not that bad,\" he said seriously. \"Well, we should turn in,\" Ash said. \"We have a lot to do in the next three days.\" \"Night, guys,\" Brock said. \"Night, you two,\" Misty answered and they left inside. \"You know, those two make a good couple,\" Kari said chuckling. \"What, her hot temper and his thick skull?\" he teased as he curled up in the hammock with her. \"Exactly,\" she said resting her head on his chest. He laughed. \"I\'d like to see that,\" he said and sighed. \"Don\'t worry about those guys. We\'ll look out for you.\" Kari nodded and yawned.
\"Good night, Brock.\"
\"Good night, Kari.\"
\"I love you.\"
\"I love you too.\"
Silence soon filled the air as the two and the Pokemon soon fell asleep.
