Summary: It\'s been one year since Spike\'s death. Jet has become a private investigator. Faye has discovered a long-lost family fortune. Ed is...well, still Ed. Ein seems to have disappeared. And a string of kidnappings have broken out throughout the solar system.

Chapter 1: Divided We Fall

Jet sighed and leaned back in the chair behind his desk. It was looking like another boring day. After he and Faye went their seperate ways, Jet knew his options were limited. His injuries had required him to use a cane for weeks, something which made bounty hunting impossible. So he took what little money he had and started up as a private investigator. It was safe work, but it was still the kind of work Jet liked to do.

Nowadays, however, private investigators didn\'t spend nearly as much time catching criminals as they did tailing wives for suspicious husbands, or vice versa. It wasn\'t the kind of work he liked.

The phone rang.

\"Jet Black, P.I., how can I help you? Taylor? Wow! I haven\'t talked to in years. What? Your daughter?\"

Halfway across the solar system, Faye Valentine was lounging, slowly slipping a drink through a straw. Unlike Jet, she liked the slow life. She had found out that her parents had left her quite a hefty inheritance, not to mention the life insurance policies. She hadn\'t recieved the money she was owed due to the same records loss that had left her with no clue as to her identity. Even though she knew now her name was not Faye Valentine, she kept the name because she liked it.

The phone rang. She heard her butler pick it up.

\"Miss Valentine, a Mr. Koper from the bank is calling,\" said the butler, handing her the phone.

\"Hello? What? What do you mean I\'m broke?\"

Meanwhile, on Earth, Ed was typing at her computer.

\"Oh, no, poor Faye-Faye! No, oh woe!\" she half-sang, half-said. Someone tapped her on the shoulder. She looked up and saw her friend James.

\"Edward found Faye-Faye!\" said Ed, taking of her goggles.

\"That\'s all well and good, but their serving breakfast now,\" said James. Ed was currently staying at a homeless shelter, but she knew already that she was going to leave soon.

Ed got up and ran over to eat. James shook his head and laughed. She was the oddest thing to hit this homeless shelter ever, and there were at least three guys there who thought they were Napoleon, so twas was saying a lot. A lot, indeed.
