We Will Meet Again

Disclaimer: I don’t down Wolf’s Rain nor do I own the lyrics to ‘We Will Meet Again’ by Vast. I just really like both and decided that they would make a fairly nice pair for a song fic. It is my interpretation that at the end of Wolf’s Rain they all became humans (hence Tsume riding a motorcycle…) and didn’t remember one another.

We Will Meet Again

“It’s warm,” Blue’s voice was quiet, soft but she sounded happy. Hige felt a slight smile cross his face as he felt the warm skin of her face, slightly sticky with blood caught in the hair. ‘Let’s meet again in Paradise,’ the words stuck in his mind. He could feel her body distant, as if she had left it already. He knew she was dead, but he still couldn’t comprehend the feeling of her lifeless skin against his, now pulsating with false life.

Where have you gone
My love,
My friend?
Somewhere without the rain?

Suddenly, as if in the absence of Blue, Hige felt the pain of his own racked body hit him twofold. ‘Is this my body’s way of showing me I don’t have the will to live anymore?’ He smirked to himself slightly, wincing as he did so, ‘the body is an amazing thing…’ at the precise moment Hige felt himself grow cold. He was actually dying…he’d never thought he would care much…but here it was a racking pain and fear of diving headfirst into this cold. What would he find? Would there be anything there? Was Paradise even real?

I feel afraid now,
I feel alone.
Will meet again?

“Hige!”
There was a voice in the distance and Hige opened his eyes slightly, peering through the haze and dark splotches. Tsume leaned over him, a lot closer than he expected.
“Hige,”
“Hey Tsume…”
“Kiba went after that guy,” he paused for a second, looking away, “hang on Hige.”
“No, Tsume, finish me with your fangs.”
The white haired boy looked back in shock.
“I know I’m a traitor-“
“Nobody cares about that anymore!” Tsume growled, turning back to look at his friend fiercely.
“Please…I’m in pain.”

Can you recall what we once knew?
Somewhere without the pain?
I feel afraid now,
But not alone.
We will meet again.

Hige felt Tsume’s quivering jaws enclose around his neck. Hige closed his eyes and breathed in his last sweet breath. ‘Are you waiting for me Blue?’

I can\'t hear your voice,
But you know I feel your soul.
I can\'t hear your voice,
But you know I feel your soul.

A mass emptiness of black and cold. Was this all that was here? Was Hige dying? Was he dead? Was this the vacuum of consciousness left behind in the absence of life? He wanted to shake his head and clear his thoughts but he knew neither of those existed. He knew he knew nothing, and that was fine.

Where have you gone
My love,
My friend?
Somewhere without any pain?

Hige’s feet hit the wet sidewalk with a reassuring slapping sound as rain splattered against his hood. He munched slightly on his hotdog, it was a miserable day, all he could look forward to was the long walk back to his apartment. Maybe he’d have hot chocolate, warm up. He smiled at the thought and blew on his hands after he’d finished his hotdog. It felt like it’d been raining for days now, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen the sun.
Maybe he’d take a shortcut today, get home a little quicker and the sooner he was out of the rain, the better.
He turned down an alley way and stopped dead in his tracks and he bumped square into someone. He was about to utter a quick sorry as his hood fell back and he was face to face with a black haired woman with the most brilliant blue eyes. They stared at each other for a moment, every logical emotion lost as the two stared at one another, complete strangers with a look of familiarity in their bright eyes. Hige’s hands went instinctively to the girl’s shoulders and pulled her closer to him, she returned the gesture and Hige buried his face in the girl’s hair, glancing up slightly into the clear blue sky.

I\'m not afraid now,
I\'m not alone.
We will meet again.
