For Something New

Disclaimer: The contents of Gravitation, including the characters and original plot, are owned by the masterful wri Mak Maki Murakami.

Another note of disclaimer: I found ‘innocent moonlight’’s writing (another Gravi-ff writer), rather inspiring to this fiction, but my fiction is quite different.

Summary: This is an AU/Continuation fiction. It has already been two years since the meeting, challenges, and events between Shuichi Shindou and Yuki Eiri had encountered together. They’ve been a really cute couple, but Shuichi finds life slightly boring. Sure, Yuki is the greatest person in his eyes, but Shuichi wants to try something new. Maybe like a switcharoo?

Multiple Chapter Story. Limes and Lemons for all to observe.

Current Rating and Warnings: PG? Fluff, Profanity, Shounen-Ai. In other words, nothing for now. Rating is going to rise up to NC-17 in next chapter for sure.

For Something New
Chapter One: Two Changing Stars

“Mou,” Shuichi said with a most exasperated tone. “What is there to do? I’m twenty-one years old and still the so-called ‘famous’ vocalist of Bad Luck. I’ve got a nice life, but it can get just so boring.”

Shuichi then sighed for the twentieth time that day. “Arg! I can’t get these lyrics again!” Shuichi exclaimed aloud with now furrowed brows. He was sitting down in the Bad Luck lounge on a nicely decorated fluffy couch. It was none too sfyisfying, despite its comforting colors and texture. Shuichi had been sitting around, shifting like every minute, like a typical fidgety child. He desperately was trying to figure out lyrics for a new song. He was now biting on the end of his pen cap, really thinking hard for words of inspiration. After a few minutes of jotting something down, he’d scrunch up the notebook paper and toss in the nearby wastebasket. It was already overflowing. However, this routine continued five more times before someone came knocking at the door.

“Who is it?”

“Shindou-kun!” Sakano said while bursting into the room. “Are you done with your lyrics yet?”

“Not yet,” Shuichi said in a very dull tone. “No ideas are coming to mind, inspiration ain’t hitting me yet.”

“Well, miracles don’t happen out of the blue,” Sakano said somewhat knowingly. “But, I would really have to beg you to complete it today! We have to arrange it and everything, and you know it takes time. The deadline is this Friday! Three days!” After his perhaps two-hundredth hysterical outbreak for the year, Shuichi replied a typical response.

“Well, I’m working on it, so lay back and chill out. You’re right, three days are left. But, that is plenty of time.”

“AHHH! How can you tell me to relax at this moment of crisis!?!?!” Sakano yelled. He continued to babble on of how important this was to the band, the company, and everything. Of course, Shuichi easily droned out that crap. It was tiring to hear like every week. More like taking care of his band was boring. He loved to sing and all, but why’d he have to always make the lyrics? Surely in other bands there would be some other authority coming up with them.

Sakano had already passed out from dreading terrible consequences of ill performance, so a secretary had come in and taken him to the resting area. But Shuichi sat around still pondering on his lyrics but also his life.

“There needs to be something new happening to my life!” Shuichi thought aloud while lying back on the couch.

Then, a slight trembling could be easily detected throughout the building. Very soon after, a person flew right into the room. Shuichi obviously curious to see what the ruckus was about, tilted his head in the direction of the door. He saw a familiar face.

“Hey Shu-chan!”

“Sakuma-san, what brings you here?” Shuichi said while sitting up.

“Just stopping by to see my to-mo-da-chi!” Ryuichi said while emphasizing his Japanese.

“Aww, thanks for calling me a friend.”

“Well, of course! AND! Kumogoro has missed you!”

“As I have missed him too,” Shuichi replied.

“What are you up to today?” Ryuichi asked tentatively.

“Ah well, I’m just working on my lyrics,” Shuichi shrugged. “No revelations have come my way though.”

“They are hard to write, that’s why I sometimes get help from Tohma or Noriko, even sometimes a writer,” Ryuichi explained happily.

“Hm, well, tried my band mates but Hiro really sucks – no offence to him – when it comes to writing up these musical songs. Then, Suguru is always busy re-editing or remixing the rest of my music. Yuki, that dummy, he doesn’t really care for my work. Besides, I have no right to bother his own novel writing for my own work. Other people, I don’t know if I can really rely on, for our privacy policies and crap.”

“Eh, well, I guess that really doesn’t work for yah, huh?”

“Yup…” Shuichi dragged, now feeling a bit down.

“Do you want me to help out?” Ryuichi kindly offered.

“Oh no,” Shuichi said while shaking his head. “No, Sakuma-san, that wouldn’t do. Tohma would get into a fit or something about that. Plus, it isn’t right to sacrifice your time, too.”

“But…” Ryuichi started only to get cut off.

“Anyway, these lyrics are my problem, and my own to solve,” Shuichi interrupted.

“If you have trouble though, you should always ask for help,” Ryuichi commented.

“I know…” Shuichi responded. His idol was really trying to help him. He admired that, such a playful and cheerful face and yet the wisdom of this man never ceased to surprise and amaze Shuichi. ‘He always seems to be happy and excited for everything,’ Shuichi thought to himself. ‘I would like to try that type of life.’

Ryuichi gazed at his band rival and good friend. He caught himself staring, but he noticed Shuichi too, was ogling. They watched each other in silence for at least a duration of two minutes.

Ryuichi was wondering what his friend was staring at. “Nan da?” he questioned in Japanese, asking ‘what.’

Shuichi grinned. “Let’s switch places.”

“Huh? You want to live at my place?” Ryuichi said, not really understanding the message. “Why ever would you want to do that?”

“No, not only would I live at your place,” Shuichi explained, “but, we would switch roles. I would be acting as you, Ryuichi Sakuma and you would take my position.”

“Like a role playing game, but in reality?”

“Yeah, exactly.”

“That could be interesting, na no da,” Ryuichi said while putting his hand to his chin in ‘thinking mode’ while walking around in a circle.

“Yeah, wouldn’t it? It might be a bit odd for us to be in some situations, but we will constantly keep contact so we can inform each other of how things are going. Should we try this little switch for a week or a month?”

Ryuichi pondered the thought for a little bit. “I think one week will be plenty, who knows what could happen to our lives as each other, things may get a bit twisted.”

Shuichi then gave it some thought. “I know it is selfish of me to say, but could we try like ten days?”

“Alright,” Ryuichi said as he walked up to Shuichi to give a thumbs-up. “It’s a deal.”

-

A couple hours of the late afternoon passed. Dusk was approaching since the sun was preparing to set. Ryuichi and Shuichi were still talking and planning out how this switch would work. Shuichi entirely ignored and forgot about his lyrics for the rest of the day. Eventually, the two vocalists ended up in Bad Luck’s dressing room. There, they both exchanged each other’s clothes. Then, they both adjusted each other’s jewelry and accessories.

“I’m afraid,” Ryuichi started, “that you will have to get your ears pierced if you want to continue this charade.”

“Well, it can’t be that bad, right?” Shuichi said optimistically.

“You’re right,” Ryuichi said. “Do you want to pierce them, or would you like me to help you?”

Shuichi thought slightly but eventually uttered his reply. “Can you?”

“Alright…” Ryuichi then fished out the piercing equipment. The other vocalist went to sit down at a chair. After applying alcohol to Shuichi’s ear, he announced what he was going to do. But before that, he came up with a joke and delivered it to his friend. He really didn’t want his friend to feel hurt. So, Shuichi did indeed giggled at the sudden burst of humor, and at that moment, Ryuichi had undergone the piercing. He did it ever so swiftly, and yet gently at the same time. Shuichi gasped at contact, but it didn’t physically feel that painful. Ryuichi then tended to cleaning up.

“As for your ears, since they are already pierced, you can tell people, you wanted to look even more like my favorite idol,” Shuichi sounded as he finally collected himself together.

Ryuichi simply smiled at that comment.

Through some hesitance, disbelief, and argument from both singers, they finally fitted properly like each other’s fairly separate personalities and features. They had endured new obstacles of changing their appearances. It took the entire rest of the day. Each of the singers looked like the other. Shuichi had transformed into a regular Ryuichi and Ryuichi to Shuichi. Only somewhat conspicuous difference could be that the new “Shuichi” would be a bit heavier in weight; consequently, the imposter of Ryuichi would have lost some weight. But a four and a half pound difference couldn’t be that bad, could it?

“Yeah, your weight is a bit heavier than mine, but I don’t think Yuki will notice,” Shuichi said thoughtfully to Ryuichi. “That reminds me…” Shuichi then changed his expression to a somewhat embarrassed and nervous worry. “Um… are you okay to act somewhat gay towards Yuki?”

“If that is what is needed, it can’t hurt to act that way,” Ryuichi responded. “In a sense, you could call me somewhat of a bisexual, so that would be fine.”

Looking even more embarrassed, even evident through the scarlet blush being displayed on Shuichi’s face, the younger singer asked another question. “Do you know… or have you…um… er…” Shuichi stuttered through.

Ryuichi interrupted with an appropriate response. “Yes, I’ve had some sexual experience with guys. Wouldn’t you think so? I mean, I have fans of both sexes.”

“Ah yes, hm…” Shuichi murmured. “Well, Yuki is rather aggressive that way, I hope you don’t mind…”

“You don’t mind me slightly cheating on your boyfriend, do yah?” Ryuichi questioned rather slyly.

“Hmph, I just hope you don’t spoil out your fun with him too long, he does get rather irritated.”

“Oh well, I think we got ourselves checked and organized pretty well,” Ryuichi said, digressing the subject. “We should go home now, it is getting late.”

Shuichi then checked the clock. “Holy shit! It’s already nine?”

“Apparently. What, do I need to go tend to your lover?”

“Yes, you really do. He might actually give you some lovely bed trouble tonight, for being late.”

“Haha…”

“Well, let’s go to our designated households, call me tomorrow, k? Kumogoro really wants to see yah again, na no da!” Shuichi said in his Ryuichi expressive tone.

“Right, till tomorrow.”

Both vocalists parted ways to their “new” environments. There, they would surely put their acting skills to a test. Their singing talents might not save them… or will they?
