Call of the Wind
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The day was overcast, slivers of watery light barely making their way through dense, gray clouds. Rain would soon fall, heralded by the faint rolling of thunder in the distance. All it needed was a bit of time.
Upon a high mountain top, a single creature gazed over the expanse of dense forest in the valley below. Eyes the color of the rarest rubies stared unblinking into the air. White diamond shapes criss-crossed over a light blue hide, ending at strong forelegs. Its dark colored mane whipped behind it in the strong breeze, a contrast to the split tail which fluttered forward against its sides. Upon its mighty head sat a formation of crystallized bone, a permanent fixture of regal bearing.
Few and far between were humans who could claim to have seen this creature, rare and mysterious as it was. Ancient folklore told it to be the Spirit of the North Wind, Suicune, one of the three legendary creatures sent by the great Ho-Oh to judge the world. Able to purify water with the slightest touch and call forth the very essence of the wind.
It was indeed this very godly creature who stood on the peak, looking into the distance with eyes that saw nothing. No expression showed on its proud canine face, its body gracefully poised and absolutely still.
Humans, being a simple species, would not have sensed the tumultuous aura the creature gave off. Pokémon, instinctively aware of all things natural, would have run for cover instantly.
The North Wind was in a foul mood.
For hundreds of years he had wandered the woodlands of Johto, and beyond, searching for the cause of a deep yearning that plagued him since his release into the world. The Great Ho-Oh had charged him and his two counterparts with the responsibilty of observing humans and Pokémon alike, judging the time when both their worlds would be at peace enough for its return.
Yet, it was not this quest that drove Suicune\'s yearning. The feeling reached far deeper than that, to the center of what one would call his soul. The inability to decipher what it was, this maddening feeling of incompleteness, of longing, was what drove him to his journey.
And, again, he had found nothing.
Frustrated and weary, the great beast called forth his powers, summoning the high winds to churn rain clouds from far and wide into pouring their fury upon all that surrounded him. Considering his purpose in the world, his behavior was uncalled for and unwise.
Suicune did not care.
Turning from the valley below, Suicune leapt into the air, carried by the wind into a direction unknown. Behind him, the rain fell, sheet after sheet of fast-falling water blanketing the land below. Lakes would rise, rivers would overflow, and still the rain would fall.
The North Wind still had much to do.

Seated by her window, Naiya watched in wonder as rain pelted heavily against the glass pane. Rivulets of water streamed downwards, creating large puddles in the soft grass below. In the distance, thunder rumbled as gray clouds slowly drifted past her window.
Raising a soft hand, she touched the glass, longing to feel the droplets against her skin. How she wished to run outside this very minute and bathe herself in it. To embrace the clean, refreshing spray and immerse herself entirely in its essence.
Naiya had always loved the rain, and all the forms it took. Water, in general, she relished, coveted it like a soul dying of thirst. Since she had been a little girl, she had rushed out to swim in the nearby lakes and rivers. She greeted downpours with a smile rather than a frown. Today was no different.
Had her mother not so vehemently forbade it, Naiya would have dashed outside at the first drop and returned only when the clouds had run dry. But, her mother had forbidden it, stating that she would catch her death of a cold if she continued such nonsense. Where would she be then? So, Naiya sat, gazing morosely as the glorious rain continued to fall.
She listened as the wind blew strongly, causing spray after spray of hard rain to crash against the glass.
The wind soothed her in a way, chanting a haunting melody she fancied only she could hear. She tilted her head a bit and listened closely to its wailing, feeling something in her heart respond to its pull.
Standing abruptly, Naiya pressed closer to the window, so close that her breath caused the glass to fog.
She could hear something, she was certain. Within the high wail of the wind was a call, a deep keening sound of yearning. It sang to her, high roaring notes that resounded into her very mind, overwhelming all other thought.
There had been other times she had thought the wind called to her. Times she wondered if she had only imagined a deep aching emptiness within herself. One she knew not how to fill.
It had gotten stronger in the past few years, as she slowly blossomed into womanhood. Sometimes the feelings were so pronounced she feared she would go mad with wanting. What it was she yearned for, she had no idea.
Listening now to the wind, she heard the call, and felt an echoing answer in her soul. Throwing open the window, Naiya leaned out, finally succumbing to the need to feel the rain\'s caress.
\"I am here!\" she called out, heedless of the rain as it entered into her room. \"Please! Come to me!\"
Her cry was lost in the wind, drowned out by the constant whirling roar. It would be a while before the storm would pass, but still she sat, tears of longing mingling with the raindrops that trailed down her chilled skin.
Naiya could only hope for an answer to come to her soon.

Author\'s Notes:
Well, I bet that whet your appetites a bit, eh? *crickets chirp* Guess not...
I myself wasn\'t all that interested in Pokémon, \'til I happened to see the \"4ever\" movie. Damn, that Suicune looked hot, all regal and flowy, with red eyes to boot. Add my sordid little imagination, and you\'ve got yourself this delightful tale.
Hope at least some of you enjoy it! *wink wink*

(P.S. I don\'t know if Suicune\'s actually male, but dammit, he is in my story! >=D)
