Sir Integra Hellsing sat at her desk thumbing through some paper work. For the moment there was peace in the Hellsing fold. But it was always an uneasy and fleeting tranquility. Integra knew at any moment she would be required to put her organization into action once again. At first she'd been furious with Alucard for turning his partner, Seras Victoria into a vampire. But as the months had progressed and Seras grew stronger and more comfortable with her powers, Integra did see the benefit of having a second vampire in her service. She looked up at the clock. The hour was very late. She needed to get some rest. Just as she was about to put her paperwork away, she felt a familar and somewhat annoying presence slip into her mind.
"Isn't it way past your bedtime master?" Alucard asked in a smooth tone pinched with a hint of sarcasm.
"I was about to put my work away for the night Alucard." Integra replied. "How is Seras Victoria's training coming along?" She asked.
"She is learning to master her powers rather quickly. Although she still hasn't gotten the concept of flight just yet, and going through the portal is still a bit of a challenge for her. With some more practice she should be able to master them easily." Alucard answered.
"Good. Now if you'll excuse me I must be getting to bed." Integra said as she got up from her desk and left her office. Alucard watched her leave before vanishing from the office.
The next day Walter arrived at Integra's office. She was there as she usually was. The aged retainer was beginning to wonder if perhaps she would one day just admit she lived behind the bloody thing. He walked up to her desk. "The queen's representives are here to see you Sir Integra." Walter said.
"Very well. Send them in." Integra ordered.
Integra waited patiently while the two men were escorted to her office. Walter opened the door and ushered them into the room. Integra stood behind her desk.
"Good day gentlemen. I trust there is an important reason for this unexpected visit." Integra enquired.
"I'm afraid there is Sir Integra. It appears that the FREAKS have begun spreading beyond our country's borders." One of the men replied.
"I've heard there have been a few isolated incidents in Rome. Is that where the trouble is coming from?" Integra asked.
"While there have been a few incidents in Rome as you said, the heart of the problem is actually in Romania. We've had reports of several strange vampire attacks there in the past week. The queen has ordered that the problem be dealt with immediately." The man answered.
"Very well. I will have troops mobilized and ready to go without delay. Thank you gentleman." Integra replied as the men bowed and left her office.
"This sounds quite serious Sir Integra." Walter commented.
"Indeed. Tonight when Alucard and Seras awake inform them I will expect them both in my office after they have fed." Integra ordered.
"I take it you are sending them to Romania?" Walter asked.
"Yes. While the human troops are many, I have no idea how many FREAKS may be in Romania after just a week. I can imagine how Alucard is going to take the news of vampire rubbish running amuck in his home land." Integra answered.
Seras opened her eyes and pressed the button of the remote to her coffin. She watched the lid rise as she wearily began to sit up. She heard footsteps and quickly put on a robe to cover her nightgown. The door opened and there was Walter carrying Seras's nightly ration.
"Good evening Miss Victoria. After you've fed Sir Integra wishes to speak with you." Walter said.
"All right Walter. I'll be up there as quickly as possible." Seras replied as she waited for Walter to leave. Once he was gone Seras quickly got out of her robe and nightgown and changed into her uniform. She didn't put on the uniform she usually wore around the Hellsing grounds. That uniform consisted of a very short mini skirt, a rather form fitting uniform blouse, and black thigh high lycra tights. She had a pretty good idea whom would want to see her in a rather scant outfit.
"Only my master..." Seras snickered.
She got dressed in a a pair of tight black weather proof pants, a black long sleeved shirt and her work boots. Walter had been kind enough to find her another black shirt to replace the one that had been ripped asunder during her attack with Jan Valentine. She walked over to her table. The blood pack sat in it's icy confines waiting for her to take it. She let out a sigh as she opened the top and began to suck the red liquid out of the bag. She made a face at the stuff as she let the first mouthful slide down her throat.
"How does master stomach this stuff?" Seras asked as she took in another mouthful and sloshed it down.
Seras quickly made her way to Integra's office. Alucard had arrived ahead of her. "What took you so long police girl?" Alucard asked.
"Sorry master. I can't get the grasp of those blasted portals." Seras answered sheepishly.
"You haven't been practicing enough. But we'll remedy that soon." The elder vampire answered.
"If the lecture is done may I speak now?" Integra asked drumming her fingers on the desk.
"Yes sir." Seras answered softly.
"Now, I was informed by the queen's messengers that the FREAKS have began infesting places other than Great Britain. Rome has seen a few incidents, but it is not the heart of the infestation. This actually will be of some concern to you Alucard." Integra stated.
"And why would that be? My only concern is wiping them off the face of this Earth." Alucard replied in an arrogant tone.
"Because the infestation is taking place in Romania." Integra answered.
Alucard's eyes widened. "They are in Romania?" He asked. His voice suddenly became low and gruff. It was a tone that hinted that the vampire was not pleased with this news.
"Yes Alucard. Many people have already been killed. I've already dispatched several human troops en route to Romania, but I had to wait until sundown to inform you and Seras Victoria of the situation. I've already chartered a plane to take you and Seras to Romania at once. The queen has ordered Hellsing to take care of this problem without delay." Integra answered.
"Yes master." Alucard said with a hint of a growl in his tone. He looked over at Seras and motioned for her to come with him.
Seras nodded and quickly followed her master through the use of his portal. She sensed both unrest and great displeasure in her master's tone.
"Those filthy fakes will regret the day they dared set foot upon my lands." The elder vampire thought angrily to himself.
Alucard and Seras emerged from the black portal where the plane Integra spoke of was waiting for them. Seras was a bit confused as to why two vampires would need a plane. "Master, why do we need to take a plane? We are vampires after all. Wouldn't the use of a human contraption like this be pointless?" Seras asked.
"Because that is what our master wishes. While it is pointless to put us on this metal monstrousity, our master's orders are her orders." Alucard answered. He and Seras boarded the plane. There in the back sat two slender coffins. Seras walked up to one of them and tried to open it.
"It won't open without remote control. They're actually decoys being used to transport our rations. Walter came up with the idea to load them with dry ice to keep the blood from spoiling. They will be carried to my castle in Romania. If I'm correct it should still be standing. You and I will be staying there while the human troops are stationed in the nearby village." The elder vampire replied.
"What is Romania like master?" Seras asked again.
"It is different than what you are accustomed to. Many in my homeland still hold to several beliefs of the old days. Those whose deaths are deemed not natural are treated with extreme caution. It is believed that people who commit suicide, are murdered, are violent criminals or die without redemption may come back as one of the undead. There are many who still hold to these beliefs and anyone who dies under any of those circumstances is considered at risk. You've probably seen how the vampires of modern movies meet their end." Alucard said.
"The old stake through the heart?" Seras asked.
"To put it lightly, yes. Those who commit suicide or die by other violent means are subject to this...ritual. The body is given a funeral and put into a very shallow grave. Afterwards the body is unearthed and a stake is driven through the heart. The reason being is to pin the body to the Earth so it cannot arise and trouble the living. Do not take this knowledge lightly. The people of my land take such things very seriously." Alucard answered.
"I understand master." Seras replied.
"Once we arrive in Romania you are to stay at my side unless I tell you to do otherwise. And I expect that order to be obeyed without fail, understand?" Alucard asked firmly.
"Yes master." Seras answered.
"I'm also going to see to it you master a few more of your talents. By the time we return to London I expect you to know how to fly and how to use the portal. These are powers you must master before you can become a true vampire." Alucard replied.
A few hours later the plane arrived in Romania at a secluded hanger where Hellsing troops awaited them. Alucard and Seras emerged from the plane. Fergason stood at the head of the soldiers as the two vampires approached. "Alucard, the troops and myself will be stationed at the village nearest to your castle. I will be posting a few scouts near the castle if that is not a problem with you." The aged commander said.
"It won't be a problem. Seras Victoria will be staying with me at my castle. I want to be informed if you will be requiring her help with the human troops." Alucard replied.
"As you wish Alucard." Fergason answered and motioned for the troops to start leaving the hanger.
Alucard and Seras left the hanger. Outside a carriage waited for them. Seras saw two black horses hitched to the old fashioned vehicle. A Hellsing soldier sat waiting for the vampires to board the carriage. Seras seated herself after her master was in the carriage. In all the hurry Seras suddenly remembered that she hadn't packed a single thing to wear. Of course she hadn't been given time to pack. She remembered only following her master when he commanded her to come with him.
"You needn't worry about not having the time to pack anything. Walter did that for you while we slept. It has already been brought here to Romania. Your things are at the castle." Alucard said reading his fledgling's thoughts.
Seras breathed a sigh of relief. "How long will it take us to arrive at your castle master?" She asked.
"It shouldn't take anymore than an hour. Once we arrive you'll have enough time to unpack your belongings before the sun rises. Tomorrow night we hunt." The elder vampire answered.
