Turning Dreams Into Sin
By Shadow of Arashi
One step.
Then another.
The sound of water as waves rushed and died on the unmoving stones.
A solitary silhouette walked down with ease the narrow stone stairs of Cap Sounion, the fierce wind tearing at the white cape wrapped around them and floating around their shoulders like a pair of torn wings.
But whoever was out there didn’t care about the weather, and it was with a cold smile that they reached their destination. A slender hand dressed in golden metal pushed away a long lock of ebony colored hair; ruby eyes observing the view spread bellow them.
The figure finally walked down the last few steps and stopped in front of the Cap Sounion prison.
The water was at one of its lowest levels still, but no light seem to be able to penetrate the cell despite the bright sunlight covering the land. This unforgiving place was as dark as its history and surely no one could stay here for long. Still, this person seemed to be waiting... for something.
After a few second, they raised a hand and gently tapped against one of the heavy metal bars that made the cell, while the wind succeeded in sending the long white cape flying sharply, revealing the golden cloth of the Gemini Saint.
"Kanon… are you here?"
Gemini Saga whispered; his voice almost soft but still clear and tainted with the barest hint of something darker.
Slowly, like the sailor answering the siren’s call, a shadow seemed to detach itself from the darkness and approached cautiously. A pale hand came to hold onto one of the bars while a few rays of lights came to reveal the shadow’s identity.
"Saga…"
The equally soft voice sounded slightly hoarse from lack of use; the pale face framed by too long blue hair, heavy with wetness and almost hiding two pain filled sapphire eyes. From the shadow of his prison, Kanon glanced at his brother hesitantly.
"So you are still alive after all… Each time I come down here I expect to find your dead body. Somebody must really like you."
The voice was mocking as always, and the younger twin looked away. Kanon was about to step back when a hand sneaked its way between the bars and caught his chin, forcing him to look at his brother.
"Now don’t turn away from me, you know I don’t like it."
Saga warned, a dark smirk marring the beautiful face like a stain. His twin never fought back, he didn’t have the strength or the will to do so after 13 years of being locked away from the world.
As if to prove his power, the Gemini Saint pulled the frail body toward him violently before locking their lips into a harsh kiss. Kanon seemed to go limp into the embrace for an instant, eyes closed and trembling, before he suddenly bit down on the invading tongue. Saga quickly withdrawn with a murderous expression as he pushed his brother away, the perfect image of a devil with the blood trickling down his chin. This was the first time he refused him…
Kanon didn’t even look back at him, choosing to stay and sit on the ground where he had fallen. Saga stayed silent, seemingly considering the prone figure. Finally he turned away.
"Fine, since you are playing prude today, do as you wish. I don’t have much time for you anyway. I have a war to win."
The Gemini Saint looked toward Athena’s Temple, lost in his own world once again. But his brother’s voice brought him back.
"Stop it."
"What?"
Saga slowly turned around with a half mocking, half disbelieving expression. Kanon was still on the ground but he now clinging desperately to the metal bars of his prison, looking at him with panic in his clear eyes.
"Stop it Saga. Stop this madness while you still can! Or else…"
"Or else what? This is funny coming from you, after all this was your idea wasn’t it?"
"NO! I never meant it! I wasn’t serious when I told you to get the power by yourself. This is why you have to stop this now Saga! You won’t win this battle and you know it. Do you really think you can kill Athena? The one you swore to protect?"
"It doesn’t matter. She is still but a child, she can’t do anything."
"You are forgetting the Saints who protect her."
"They are just a bunch of Bronze Saints, they are only kids! They will never get past the Gold Saints so I have nothing to fear."
"They may be only Bronze but they beat the Silver Saints, and they have Athena on their side. You can’t win Saga and I know you don’t want this war. Are you going to sacrifice even the Gold Saints for your ambition? You have to fight -him-!"
"Shut up!"
The Gemini Saint howled in fury, his red eyes flashing eerily as his brother flinch and hide in the shadows of his prison.
"Shut up, I can’t and I won’t stop now. I will succeed and the world will be mine, while you dear brother… You will stay locked in this prison until the sea finally drown you like it should have those past 13 years!"
Saga didn’t wait for an answer, for he had already started to climb back the stairs to Sanctuary. He ignored the pleads of the person he had left behind and kept walking, all the while a voice in his head yelling at him to stop this insanity and cursed him for all the evil he had done to his brother and Athena.
"I can’t lose. I can’t lose and I can’t stop Kanon. I can’t…"
The Keeper of the Third House murmured, and a for a second one could have almost recognised the man people admired as an equal of the gods.
In his prison, a young man watched his brother disappear from his life and wept.
****
Left alone in his water prison, Kanon curled on himself and wrapped his arms around his knees, weeping bitterly. He had failed once again to stop Saga, and now his twin would fight against Athena and her Saints directly in the next battle. He knew that it would come to this, he could feel it in his bones and it made him all the more desperate.
For he knew he wouldn’t see his brother alive again now. Not if Saga attacked Athena. He would be punished for betraying his goddess and manipulating the Gold Saints no matter the issue of this war. And there was nothing he could do, locked as he was in this cursed place.
Kanon almost choked on his tears, whimpering softly. Maybe if fate was merciful, this time he would die with the tide and follow his brother…
How did they come to this? Oh he knew why, it was all because of his own stupidity. If only he hadn’t pushed Saga too far…
Kanon finally raised his head when a wave licked at his face; eyes turned in the direction of the light that hadn’t touched his skin in so long and lost himself in the memories he couldn’t fight anymore.
//
Saga stood silently in the doorway of the Third House, hands clutched into fists at his side and glaring at the figure that leaned against the wall with apparent nonchalance.
"Kanon, what did you do this time?! Just look at you! You… God just what happened to you?!"
"What, you never care before Saga so why the big deal?"
The younger twin hissed from between clenched teeth, discreetly holding against his body the rest of his torn clothes and trying to ignore the searing pain in the small of his back and hoping against all hopes that Saga wouldn’t notice that.
"I care when I see my brother coming back at 3 in the morning half naked and drunk! Don’t tell that on top of always getting into fights, my twin is a whore!"
Kanon froze, looking both like a deer caught by the hunter and staring at his brother with an indescribable expression. Then his face hardened and he approached Saga with a demarche that was nothing short of provocative, dropping the pieces of clothes he was clinging to his body in a sharp gesture. Saga stepped back in stupor, both at the unexpected reaction and the bit marks he saw all over his twin’s skin. His eyes widened when he spotted the blood and pinkish liquid on the bare thighs exposed to his view, unbelieving that he hadn’t noticed it before now.
"You…"
But his brother was already upon him, pressing himself against him as Saga was slammed against the cold stone wall. All he could do was star wide eyes at his furious twin.
"Why do you care Saga? Are you that afraid I will ruin your precious reputation? Oh don’t worry; the whore as you call me is careful. But did you ever wonder why I was acting this way? Of course you didn’t, you never saw me as anything but an annoyance! What did I ever do to you to deserve your contempt?! You turned away from me and left me on my own when I needed you, so don’t come and tell me what to do with myself brother!"
He whispered accusingly, his whole body language in contradiction to his words, enticing and seductive. It left Saga spellbound and prevented him from reacting immediately when Kanon quite suddenly kissed him.
It took a bit of struggling but Saga managed to entangle his brother from him.
"You don’t know what you are doing. You are drunk and-"
"Oh please! You are not fooling anyone Saga; I know perfectly what I’m doing. I’ve been feeling this way for years but you never cared about me anymore, you never seem to notice I exist at all unless I do something wrong! I- I wanted you to love me, to touch me with care and not to punish me… But you never understood that so I went to look for what I needed somewhere else. And now you come and look at me with this shocked expression, are you finally jealous brother?"
The now sweet voice tempted, Kanon smiling coyly as he pressed himself once again against Saga, rubbing his half naked body against his brother’s as he nipped gently on the exposed skin of his neck. Saga jumped at the sensation as if he had electrified, before he frowned and sharply tugged on the long blue hair to pull the offensive mouth away from his neck.
"You don’t know what you are saying! I can’t- this is wrong, what would the Kyoko said if-"
"So this is what it’s all about. Your desire for acknowledgement, power and fame! If you want the power so badly why don’t you go and kill Shion and Athena then! Maybe you will be satisfied with this."
Kanon spat; alcohol, despair and pain driving him to the brink of madness, blinding him to the consequences of his acts and words. He only noticed he may have gone too far when a fist collided with his face, sending him crashing onto the floor. When he regained some coherence, it was to realise he was being held down onto the cold stone floor of the Third House by something, or someone.
"Saga?"
He asked slowly, not daring to raise his head. A harsh hand in his hair did it for him, and Kanon gasped in shock at the blood red eyes and darkened hair of the person who used to be his brother.
"You have done it now, little brother. But maybe I should thank you for waking me completely. Now that Saga is out of the way why don’t I give you what you came looking for you little slut?"
The cold voice chuckled in malice, the possessed Gemini Saint not wasting time as he settled himself between the previously offered blood covered thighs while he freed himself from his clothes. The forceful penetration brought a scream of intense pain from Kanon, scream which was dulled when a hungry mouth covered his lips, biting and drawing more blood from his abused body.
Kanon felt his heart break into tiny little pieces as he lay there, body frozen in pain and shock while the person who had replaced his brother had his way with him. When it was finally over he curled onto himself, too shaken to move or cry. In his state it was easy for the ‘impostor’ to gather his broken self into his arms and leave the Third House.
It was only the sound of the crashing waves and salty air of the sea that bring back Kanon to his senses. When his blurry eyes focused on his environment, he could only star in incomprehension at the Cap Sounion prison. The place where the traitors to Athena were locked away until they repent for their sins.
"Wha-"
But it was already too late as Kanon was thrown effortlessly into the water prison, unable to protest or defend himself.
"There, now you won’t get in my way. If you are still alive tomorrow I will come visit you, it would be a shame to lose such a good lay."
The other Saga laughed in this cold, devious laugh Kanon would learn to hate, leaving his shattered twin to his fate.
The very next day the Kyoko was assassinated and the Sagittarius Saint branded as a traitor.
//
It was his fault if they were in this situation today and he would never forget it as long as he lived.
The years he had spent locked had prevented him from seeing the changes in Sanctuary, keeping him physically and somehow mentally in the child like state he was at fifteen. But it hadn’t stopped him from seeing Saga’s decadence and fall into madness. A madness he could see growing deeper each time the possessed Gemini Saint visited him, toying with him like one would with a sex doll and leaving him bleeding and dieing inside a little deeper every time.
If only he had found the strength to fight back after that first time… But he had been so shocked and desperate that he never thought about refusing himself to Saga, too happy to see his brother coming back to him, even for a short while.
When his body ceased his quiet sobbing; Kanon resolutely forced himself to calm down. He gathered his strength, determined to follow his brother’s last moments till the bitter end and tuned himself with his brother’s cosmo. Now came the waiting, but it seem like both his and Saga’s agony wouldn’t be long. Already he could feel 6 cosmo heading toward Sanctuary. One of those cosmo felt vaguely familiar to Kanon, but he ignored it. His priority was, as always, his brother.
"I won’t leave you alone Saga. Even if you don’t want me or if I can’t be by your side physically when you fall, I will be there. I promise."
A murmur carried by the wind like a prayer, and the waiting began.
****
A hole in the wall, a fist still buried into the cold stone and a person who didn’t seem to care about the little rivers of blood dripping down their fist.
One body, two voices echoing in the Kyoko’s palace.
"Why did you hurt him?! Why!? Why do you always hurt him, and why are you doing all this?"
"After all this time, I thought you would have figured it out by now."
"What do you mean?"
"Power of course. What else is new? You brother realised it a long time ago; he knew what was in your heart and-"
"Shut up! You are only trying to poison what’s left of my heart further…"
"But it’s true, isn’t it? You wanted power and acknowledgment. That’s why you distanced yourself from Kanon."
"No…"
"Oh yes! And you better stop lying to yourself, it’s very irritating. I’m you. I know what is in your heart better than anyone, except maybe your twin. I only took it upon myself to give you what you desired."
"What I desired?!"
"Of course, the highest place of all in Sanctuary and your precious little brother. Would you really have done it all on your own? I don’t think so!"
"But I never wanted any of this… I never wanted to hurt him…"
"Didn’t you? Didn’t you want to hurt him for betraying you, for sleeping around as he did? Don’t tell me it didn’t feel good to have him at your mercy."
"Shut up…"
"*chuckles* Shall I refresh your memory?"
"Don’t you dar-"
A small sound as a body hit the floor, instinctively curling on itself as if in tremendous pain.
//
"Uggh!"
Kanon wanted to scream, beg, fight, trash around; anything to escape this torture. This pain was more than he could bear and he bit down on the gag in his mouth, muffling the pathetic sounds he could still make as his eyes filled with tears, wetting the bandages that blinded him.
"You are so pretty when you are in pain little brother; I wouldn’t hurt you so much if it wasn’t so gratifying."
The other Saga whispered darkly into his ear, groaning in pleasure with every thrust he made into the trembling body beneath him. Kanon could only whimper, unable to see, speaks or moves. All he could do was wait for him to grow tired of screwing him and leave him. When he felt his body tense he knew he had reached his peak and thanked every deity he knew, because his torture would soon end.
When the other Saga finally untangled himself, still as breathless as Kanon, the first thing he saw was the blood tainting the water around them. It made him laughed. He bent down again between the tied up and spread legs, licking the blood on his prey’s thighs before it even reached the water.
"I think I will leave you like this for now, just to let the fact that I own you sink into that pretty head of yours. Don’t you dare forget it, and never, ever defy me again little brother. Or I will do much worse to you."
Kanon was then left alone with this warning, his body still bounded and aching in protest to the vicious treatment. In the darkness of his prison, Kanon prayed for the tide to do its job and achieve him this time.
//
"Do you remember now, this pleasure you felt when you took him? The way he screamed, his tears, his bl-"
"You bastard! You… you won’t succeed. The Saints won’t let you."
"Not this again! Nobody can stop us now. We have gone too far, no one suspect us. The world is our!"
"That’s what we will see. Let the battle decide of our fate, my dark self."
"Fine, be that way."
Silence.
Then the discreet sound of tears, almost drowned by the sound of soft panting as the prone form of the Gemini Saint struggled to get on his feet. Face pale and sweating, Saga stumbled for a few steps before leaning against the throne of the Kyoko. Long blue hair shadowed the expression of pure anguish of the crying young man.
"Oh God… I’m sorry… Athena… Kanon... I’m so sorry… God help me but he is right. I can’t end the oncoming battle; all I can do is pray for those Saints to win and for Athena to forgive me for my sins… I’m sorry Kanon, I probably won’t see you again in this life and this monster never let me say… that I loved you…"
A mocking laugh suddenly followed those words as the blue hair changed to a midnight color once again, a golden but hateful cosmo flaring brightly and enveloping the possessed Gold Saint.
"Now let those idiots come! Like the lamb before the wolf they will only be another sacrifice. I will prove to you and your brother that I was right all along Saga! Ahahahahahaha!!"
Locked into the back of his mind, Gemini Saga wept bitter tears of rage and powerlessness.
****
12 hours.
12 drops of blood spilled by nails biting into soft palms.
"How…? How did they go that far?"
"Don’t you understand already? This is what Kanon and I warned you about. You will fail."
"No! I told you I can’t fail!"
"You can and you will fail. Just face the truth! They are already at your door! By all logic those boys should be dead, but they beat or turned to their side all the Gold Saints. You can’t hide anymore and soon you will face the consequences of your acts!"
"Don’t you mean you will face the consequences of my acts? I’m not defeated yet!"
"That’s what we will see. He is here for you."
"Then you shall greet him for us."
The sound of a door slowly opening; hesitant footsteps echoing into the large throne room and then, a gasp of surprise.
"Ar- Are you the Kyoko?"
The last actor for the final act had appeared.
****
In Cap Sounion Prison a young man suddenly clutched his chest with a sharp cry, feeling violently ill.
****
A figure in golden armor lay on the floor, blood lazily pooling around its body. Half closed eyes gazed in pain, love and shame mixed together at the beautiful woman they had sworn to protect, wondering why she was crying.
Saga smiled shakily at the reincarnation of Athena, feeling strangely peaceful while his life slipped away from his battered body. His goddess was safe and his evil side would die with him, he had nothing to fear now.
Then a painful reminder as a soft voice cried and begged him in the back of his consciousness. His brother, a brother he would never have the joy to see again in this life. His brother that he would be leaving behind locked in his horrible prison…
No! He had to do something! He couldn’t just leave Kanon confined there forever to inevitably die one day; he had to do something…
"A… Athena…"
With renew strength the fallen Saint struggled to do one last act before his death, one last act to undo one of the many wrongs he had done against his will.
The saddened goddess was immediately at his side, her golden cosmo attempted to sooth the Gemini Saint. Athena observed the broken man she hadn’t been able to save from his destiny, new tears dripping down her perfect face as she was graced with the last request from one of her most faithful protectors.
A request she would definitely honoured.
Athena gently rested the unmoving corpse of Saga, determination now shining in her eyes. The goddess glanced at her remaining Gold Saints, most of them still holding the unconscious but living forms of the five Bronze Saints, those brave boys who did the impossible. They had more luck than Saga, she realised with regrets. But there was still something she could do for him.
"Gold Saints… Could you leave Seiya and his friends to rest in the Kyoko’s Palace with one of you? I need to go to Cap Sounion immediately."
The murmur of incomprehension and concern was to be expected, Milo’s reaction as well.
"Cap Sounion goddess? Why?"
"There is… someone there, waiting to be freed."
Without waiting for an answer the Divine Athena immediately departed, impatient to reach her destination and hopefully succeeded where she had failed once.
****
The sea, the only needed tool of torture for whoever was cursed to be send to Cap Sounion; so useful for its cold and sharp biting to the unprotected skin of the unfortunates. None of this mattered to Kanon though, as the second child of Gemini couldn’t feel the water slapping against his stomach or the wind tangle and throw his too long hair into his face.
Nothing mattered for he was now alone. What he had feared for 13 years had finally happened. He couldn’t feel his twin’s cosmo anymore or contact him through their bond, which could only mean one thing…
Saga was dead.
Leaning against a rock, Kanon hugged himself and cried like he hadn’t cry since the night he was locked away by his brother’s evil side.
How could he live now, without Saga by his side? He couldn’t, not with only half of himself. A part of him had always belonged to his brother, for they completed each others. Now this part had died with Saga and all he could do was pray once again that this time, the tide would drown him as surely as his sorrow.
But despite his despair Kanon abruptly felt the faintest trace of a warm presence by his side. It was a familiar cosmo and Kanon was almost tempted to snap out of his catharsis. It wasn’t the comforting presence which managed to startle into back into his senses though but a soft voice calling his name…
"Kanon…"
When he slowly raised his head, curious against his will to see who had come to disturb his captivity, he couldn’t repress his small gasp of shock upon seeing the figure watching him with gentle eyes. Kanon immediately knew who she was, the golden cosmo glowing around her ethereal form.
"Athena…"
Came the breathless murmur as Kanon was graced with the protective power of his goddess.
****
"Kanon…
The name came to her naturally when she spotted him, hiding in the shadows like an injured animal. So this was Saga’s brother…. Athena felt a sharp pang of regrets, knowing that she was partly to blame for the state of this man. Even in the darkness of his cell, she could see the terrible state he was in. The bound between twins was stronger than one could think, and for an instant she feared she had condemned both brothers.
But the captive moved, seemingly reacting to her voice. Athena smiled in relief, stepping closer to the bars locking the water prison. Finally he looked at her and she was caught into two wide, childish blue eyes and a pace face lost in a sea of long blue hair.
"Athena…"
She heard him whisper in awe, as if he did not quite believe his eyes. The gentle goddess smiled reassuringly, inwardly worried about his well being. From what Saga had told her, Kanon had been locked for 13 years. With the darkness she couldn’t see very well how the younger twin had fare, but she intended to find out.
"Yes, you can come out now Kanon. I know what happened so you have nothing to fear."
She tried, before she noticed the pain in those too sorrowful sapphire eyes.
"So Saga really is…"
The voice was broken and hesitant from pain and unused as he bowed his head, hiding his face from his goddess. Athena didn’t have anything to say to that, but she shared her Saint’s distress, attempting to sooth his bleeding heart once again.
"I’m sorry I couldn’t do anything to save your brother, I really am. But you can’t stay here, your brother wanted you to be free Kanon, this is why I’m here. So please come out."
Her words appeared to have the desired effect this time when Kanon slowly left his sitting position, taking with a second of hesitation the offered hand of his goddess.
Time seems to freeze for Kanon, the lost child in him suddenly thrown back into the world of light after years spend in the shadows. Years later he still couldn’t say exactly how he physically left his prison but none of this mattered right now. Too caught up in the glorious feeling of the sunlight on his skin after so many years, Kanon totally ignored the gasps that followed his apparition.
Athena stared at the man in front of her, a man who was looking far more like a child than a 28 years old should. His years of captivity had left their marks, from the incredibly long blue hair that fall way past even his feet from not having been cut for 13 years and almost hide his eyes, to the skin which had acquired a porcelain color from its dark confinement to a body which had kept a rather childish structure from lack of exercise. The tunic he must have been wearing as a teenager and still wore had been torn and tied to fit his body, hanging off his shoulders and barely holding together. At this moment, he was the lost child looking for guidance that he was at fifteen.
Watching him like this, Athena swore to help and ‘bring back to life’ the lost child she had freed from his prison. She would do it for herself, Kanon and for Saga. And judging from Milo’s expression she knew she wouldn’t be the only one to help this man.
With a new and hopeful smile, the goddess defender of Earth took hold of one of the pale hands, startling the young man who was to become the next Gemini Saint and guided him to the Kyoko’s Palace to start his new life.
OWARI
Shadow: Finally! All done. X_x This was done rather quickly by my standards so I hope it is satisfactory. As this story first came to me in the form of a doujinshi I tried to keep the general idea, hence the weird cuts and small scenes following each others. It is supposed to be read like a comic, I just hope it worked. I’m kinda worried about those things. ^^;;
