Scarlet Tears

The crisp night sky was sprinkled with stars; clear, sparkling flickers of light. The wind raced across the terrain, making flowers sway and trees dance in rhythmic motion. This breeze carried through the forest and passed by a secluded home buried deep within a lush barrier. Silver hair was tossed about a beautiful face. The owner of the inky gray tresses sighed in exasperation as he stared blankly into the night. His feminine purple eyes gazed blankly at the moon as if dazed by its charm.

One name slipped past the boy’s lips, “Kyo…” uttered Yuki. A solitary tear of regret trickled down his face. He closed his eyes and thought, ‘Why do I feel this way about you, Kyo? Aren’t we rivals, enemies? You seem to hate me so much. When all I feel for you…is love…” he cringed at his own thoughts. ‘But instead of loving me’ he contorted his face angrily, ‘you’re always with her!’ “Tohru…” he murmured raggedly.

Yuki didn’t hate Tohru, if anything he was jealous of the attention Kyo gave her. In his own act of vengeance, he would steal her away from Kyo and spend all his time with her, if only to keep Kyo from falling in love.

“I hate myself…Why do I do this to both of them? I’m such a horrible person!” Yuki shouted, punching himself in the stomach. His purple orbs became shiny with tears as they fell from them. He dropped to his knees and curled into a ball. “I’m so filthy, for hurting Tohru and my beloved Kyo…” he muttered as his heart filled with pain and depression.

During the day, Yuki would put up a front, a wall to protect his inner weakness from the scrutinization of his peers. He had to keep his perfect, intelligent, handsome image. Gradually this began to eat away at his soul, he would come home everyday, lock himself in his room and cry. This became a daily routine for him, as his depression worsened. He didn’t eat very much anymore either, he had neither the driver nor desire to feed his hungry body. As a result he began to drastically lose weight and he slept more then usual.

But soon Yuki’s sleeping hours became irregular, he would sleep late into the morning, doze off during classes, returned home, sleep for three hours then stay up almost the whole night only to start the cycle again. His appearance was even unhealthy, his hair lost it sheen and dark circles formed under his eyes.

All of this a result of Kyo’s negligence? Most likely. Yuki’s ever-tiny confidence soon faded with his health. He could see Kyo and automatically become distraught with self-consciousness and self-doubt.

It wasn’t always like this, in the beginning Kyo was a mere rival of Yuki’s. Then he moved into Yuki’s house and he began to know Kyo better. As time passed, Yuki’s desire to fight Kyo dwindled and his love began to grow fervent. As expected, Yuki started seeing the good qualities in Kyo, the ones he overlooked when they were enemies. His perseverance, his pride, and most of all his beauty were things that Yuki recognized. It became increasingly difficult for Yuki to fight Kyo due to his sexual attraction to the orange cat. Also because his health was so bad but since he spent most of his time either alone or with Tohru he didn’t have to fight very often.

The reason Yuki spent as much time with Tohru as possible was so that Kyo wouldn’t be able to. He thought that the more contact Kyo had with her, the more he would like her. Yuki’s real desire was to spend all that wasted time with his beloved Kyo but it was impossible. He fathomed that Kyo only hated him, only tolerated him. So since Yuki couldn’t have Kyo, he tried to make it so that no one else could.

Yuki sat on the floor of his room in a crumpled pile of destitution and depression. “Why can’t he love me? I guess…I don’t blame him” he groaned, “I’m this pathetic being, this disgusting, horrible creature and he is a proud man.” At the moment, all of what was left of Yuki’s sanity feigned from him and he was mostly rambling. Shakily, he raised himself to his feet and reached in the top drawer of his dresser. Retracting a small, compact object, he fell back onto his bed.

Yuki popped the blade out of its holdings in the pocketknife. His hair trailed over his face as he lay down on his pillow, holding his arm in front of his delicate face. Unsheathing his arms from their sleeves on his nightshirt he inhaled deeply, tears still flowing. The blade glistened in the moonlight as he pressed it harshly against his left arm. Crimson blood gushed slightly as the knife broke his creamy, fragile skin. Droplets of blood dripped from the severed arm and mingled with the salty water that stained his cheeks. Scarlet tears slid down Yuki’s dormant expressional face as he cut the other arm as well, this time deeper, harsher than the first. Scars cluttered his arms and legs as his new cuts meshed with previous ones.

The silver haired boy closed his eyes and sighed in pain, dropping the weapon of choice to the floor and drifting into unconsciousness.
