PLANS OF LOVE
CHAPTER ONE
AND SO IT BEGINS
Gendo Ikari, supreme commander of Nerv, head of Project: E, and one of the scariest men alive, was dumbfounded. He sat in his office, a large dark room with a massive diagram inscribed on the floor and ceiling. His attention was focused on a small letter resting in front of his laptop. It baffled him, this letter. He had received mail many times before, as had everyone else in the world, but nothing quite like this. With a sigh he picked it up and read its\' contents again:
Dear Gendo Ikari,
We are proud to announce on behalf of the Inter-Galactic Council that you have been selected as one of two candidates from your galaxy, the Milky Way, to compete in the finals for the title of Biggest Douche in the Universe. You will be competing against a number of other finalists, including last years returning champion 15 years running, John Edwards, whom also hails from your galaxy...
The letter went on in much the same fashion, describing the details of the contest along with the date. Gendo felt his eye convulsing as it usually did whenever he read the letter. \"Is it true?\" He wondered. \"Am I really a big douche? I mean, I know I\'m a sadistic asshole that abandoned his son and plans on using a little girl who\'s a clone of his wife to become god, amongst a number of other crimes, but am I really THAT big a douche?\"
He pondered the question for a minute before he hit a button on his communication pad. There was a chime and the face of his former teacher and right hand man, Sub-Commander Kozo Fuyutsuki, appeared on his screen. \"Yes Commander?\" The gray haired elder inquired.
\"Fuyutsuki... Am... Am I a douche?\"
Surprise was clearly present on the older mans face. He had expected any number of questions, but \'am I douche?\' was not one of them. He regained his composure with a light cough and looked up at his former student in the screen. \"Well, I was never going to say anything, but yes, sir, you are a douche. You are a really big douche.\"
Gendo sighed. \"Thank you, Fuyutsuki.\"
\"No, seriously, you are a really huge douche!\" Kozo persisted.
\"Yes, I understand, thank you.\"
\"No, no. You\'re not hearing me. I mean holy shit your are a giant fucking douche!\"
Gendo slammed his fist down on the table, startling the older man on the other end of the connection. \"Goddamnit I get it already! Shut the fuck up you asshole!\"
Kozo looked at him a moment before nodding. \"Erm, yes. I understand Commander. Was there anything else you needed?\"
\"No, that will be all,\" Gendo growled, still seething from his subordinate\'s outburst. He terminated the link and sat back in his chair. \"Perhaps I should rethink what I\'ve been doing lately...\"

Asuka Langley Soryu was pissed. Not because of what her fellow pilots, Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami, were doing in the elevator ride, but rather, what they weren\'t doing. The sexual tension in the room was palpable. She had long known that Shinji was attracted to Rei, and she believed that Rei felt likewise towards him, but both were too pathetic to do anything about it. Shinji was a spineless moron, so he would never take the initiative, and Rei was too much of a naïve doll to know half of what was going on with her anyways. It was all of these things that put Asuka in a foul mood. If those two didn\'t get with the program anytime soon, she felt like she\'d explode!
The elevator chimed and slowed to a stop as the doors slid open revealing one of the many hallways of Nerv, this one in particular leading to the exit. The three children filed out and headed off to their respective destinations, Shinji and Asuka to Misato\'s apartment and Rei to hers. Asuka noticed Shinji take a look at Rei and almost say something to her as the blue haired girl walked away, but he shut his mouth with a look of defeat and turned his gaze to the ground. \"Schiesse what an idiot!\" She thought bitterly.
The two walked home in an unusual silence, though not an unwelcome one on Shinji\'s part. Rather than talk like she normally did, Asuka instead spent her time pondering the question of Shinji and Rei\'s relationship. The inkling of a plan had begun to form in her mind when the two arrived back at Misato\'s. Shinji quickly darted off to his room, fearing what the German girl may do when whatever was that was keeping her quiet was revealed. Asuka was glad the boy had slinked away, as it gave her a chance to talk to Misato before the woman became to drunk.
\"Misato, I need to talk to you about something.\" She said as she sat down next to the older woman, noting that she had only managed to get down two beers.
Misato looked at the redhead curiously. \"Sure Asuka. What do you need?\"
\"Well, it\'s actually more about someone than something.\"
Misato slammed her beer down and put up her hands, her face indignant. \"Now look, me and Kaji weren\'t doing anything last night!\"
\"I\'m not talking about Kaji you idiot! Wait... What about Kaji?\" She asked, suddenly suspicious.
Misato averted her gaze as her face became innocent. \"Um, nothing!\"
Asuka eyed her warily before continuing. \"Anyways! I actually wanted to talk to you about Shinji.\"
\"Shinji? What about him?\"
\"Well, you know he likes Rei, right?\"
\"Of coarse! Everyone knows those two have the hots for each other. It\'s painfully obvious! Well, at least on Shinji\'s end, but everyone can still tell Rei feels likewise since he\'s the only one she\'ll ever talk to.\" Misato declared.
\"That\'s exactly it! It\'s so obvious those two want each other, and yet they haven\'t done a thing together!\"
\"Hmm, I suppose. So what?\"
\"Sooo... We should try and get them together!\"
\"But Asuka,\" Misato said, her eyes becoming sly and mischievous. \"I thought you had eyes for Shinji!\"
\"WHAT!? Me?\"
\"Oh come on, I\'ve seen the way you look at him!\"
Asuka turned her head away in a huff, but after a moment she looked back at Misato thoughtfully. \"Well, maybe if he wasn\'t such a spineless dummkopf, but I don\'t think it would matter much. I doubt he could ever look at me the way he does her, even if I\'m obviously the better choice. To that pervert I\'m just another pretty face to look at- Hey, why are you looking at me like that?\"
Misato was staring dumbfounded at Asuka with her jaw hanging open. She regained her composure after a minute (with some help from a long swig of her Yebisu) and turned towards her charge. \"Wow... I\'m really impressed with you Asuka. I never would have thought you\'d make an admission like that!\"
\"And what\'s that supposed to me!\" The German growled menacingly.
\"Nothing!\" Misato said quickly, putting her hands up in defense.
\"Back on subject, I think we should do something to get those two to quit dawdling and finally get together!\"
A sly grin split Misato\'s face as the prospect sunk in. It had been a looong time since she\'d played matchmaker. Not since college in fact. While she didn\'t want to say anything to Asuka, the truth was that Misato had long been thinking of a way to pair up Shinji and Rei, but she had always been too worried of what the volatile redhead might do if she got involved. But since Asuka had, in possibly the most mature moment of her life, flat out told Misato that she wasn\'t interested in him and that she too was thinking of helping the would be lovers, Misato could finally start putting her plans into action. It was all too perfect.
\"I agree!\" She said with joy. \"Oooohh!!! This is gonna be so much fun!\" exclaimed Misato with joy. \"I\'ve got some phone calls to make. It might take a few called in favors to pull this one off!\"

Ritsuko Akagi was startled when her phone suddenly rang, but she quickly recomposed herself and snatched up the annoying device. \"Akagi,\" She said into the receiver.
\"Ritsuko!\" Misato\'s voice blared out. \"I just had to call you and tell you what\'s going on! Asuka and me are putting together a plan to get Shinji and Rei together! Oh my god it\'s gonna be so much fun! I mean, you remember when we used to do it back in college right? Anyways, I gotta call some other people! Oh, and by the way, I might need to call in that favor you owe me for keeping my mouth shut at that party, well anyways, bye!\" And then the connection was dead.
Ritsuko stared at the now silent phone until what the raven-haired woman had said finally sunk into her brain. \"Get them... together? Oh shit, this can\'t be good! I\'d better inform Gendo. He\'s not gonna like this one bit!\" she thought as she quickly turned to her communication pad and dialed in the Commander\'s office number.

At that moment the Commander was sitting in his chair, feeling yet another chill run up his spine as he re-evaluated his life. \"Goddamnit, what the fuck was I thinking? Jesus I\'m an asshole!\" He leaned back and let out a long sigh. \"That\'s it, this is just too fucked up. I\'ve got to find a way to make up for all my bullshit. But... where to begin?\" He tapped his pen against his chin thoughtfully until his desk chimed, signaling a call. He turned to it and accepted, seeing the face of Ritsuko Akagi appear on the screen.
\"What do you need Doctor?\" He inquired of her.
\"Sir, I just received a call from Misato. Apparently her and the second child are planning on playing matchmaker with Rei and Shinji. You know what that\'ll mean to your scenario.\"
He looked at her face for a moment as the wheels in his head slowly turned, putting two and two together. \"This is it!\" he thought with glee. \"This is the perfect opportunity to start fixing everything! I mean, God only knows how badly I\'ve wronged Rei, and don\'t even get me started on how fucked up Shinji is.\" His face split into a sly grin, which didn\'t go unnoticed by Ritsuko. \"Good. Make sure it happens, and tell the Major that she has my permission to take any measures necessary.\"
No words could ever hope to describe the look of shock that was on Akagi\'s face. It was an expression that Gendo would cherish for the rest of his life. \"Is there a problem Doctor?\" he calmly asked.
Ritsuko\'s mouth was hanging open and the poor woman looked like she was about to faint. \"But... I.... WHAT!? I thought the last thing we wanted was for the first and third to become romantically involved? Isn\'t it against the scenario sir?\"
\"The scenario has changed Doctor. I\'ll inform you of the details later. Now, is there anything else you need? I\'m very busy.\"
\"Uh, no... No, that\'s it.\" She said, still dumb struck from what the heartless Commander had just told her.
\"Good. I expect a full report of the first and thirds relationship.\" He canceled the connection and smiled to himself. \"Gendo you sly dog,\" he thought with an air of self-satisfaction. He turned back to his communicator and signaled for his second in command. \"Fuyutsuki,\" he said as the Sub-Commanders face appeared on the screen, \"report to my office immediately. We have plans to discuss.\" He cut the link when the older man nodded in affirmation. Gendo felt that things were about to get a whole lot better.

Shinji sighed as he stared at his ceiling in the darkness of his room. Soft classical music played into his ears from the headphones of his SDAT. He had heard Asuka talking to Misato about something that seemed to get the two excited. He had also heard his name come up a number of times, but he wasn\'t sure what they were talking about. All he was certain of was that whatever the two women were up to, it couldn\'t be good.
He rolled over in his bed and closed his eyes, letting the music carry his thoughts away from the world. He was thankful that, at least for the briefest of moments, he didn\'t have to worry about anything. He could simply lie there and immerse himself in the soft notes. It wasn\'t long before he fell asleep, completely unaware that the next day his life would change in a way that he never would have expected.

\"Idiot Shinji wake up and make me breakfast!!\" Asuka screamed from outside the closed bedroom door. The idiot in question, Shinji Ikari, the Third child and pilot of the monstrous Evangelion Unit-01, rose from the comforting caress of sleep and into the land of the living. He rubbed his eyes in an attempt to remove the grogginess of sleep from them and then slowly rose and put on his clean clothes for the day.
Within minutes he was in the kitchen yawning and cooking pancakes for his fiery roommate and his alcoholic guardian. It was just another normal day in the life of Shinji. He finished up and delivered the food to the two ladies and sat down to eat.
\"Shinji,\" said Misato next to him as she downed her first beer of the morning, \"when you see Rei in school today, ask her to come back here with you rather than going home to her apartment. I have something I want to talk to all three of you about today, alright?\"
Shinji nodded in affirmation. \"Alright Misato.\"
\"Great, we have to walk home with Wonder Girl today? Just lovely,\" voiced Asuka next to him.

Apart from Misato\'s request for Rei to come home with them, the day from there seemed to progress as normal. Asuka ranted as she normally did on their way to school, and it was all Shinji could do to get away from her and seek the company of his two friends, Touji and Kensuke, when they arrived.
A few hours later when the lunch bell chimed, Shinji had started to rise from his desk when he saw Asuka approaching him. He turned to look for his two friends for support, but they had already left the room, leaving Shinji alone with Asuka.
\"Here,\" she said holding out two small slips of paper for him when she arrived at his desk.
\"What are those?\" He asked warily, afraid to touch the two proffered objects.
\"Movie tickets. Me and Hikari were going to see one tonight, but she can\'t go anymore.\"
\"Are... you asking me to go to the movies with you?\" Shinji asked, suddenly blushing furiously.
Asuka became indignant and thrust the two slips into his hands. \"God no! Are you mad? Why would I want to go see a movie with a spineless idiot like you! I just thought you could make more use of them then I could!\"
\"Um... Thanks, I guess...\"
\"You guess? Mein Gott, there\'s no pleasing some people!\" she cried, throwing up her hands in frustration as she walked away.
Shinji looked at the two tickets now resting in his hands. \"An Angels Love... Oh yeah, that\'s that new steamy romantic comedy. But... why would Asuka give me tickets to this? I don\'t wanna see something like that...\" He shook his head in confusion and pocketed the two tickets before heading outside to eat lunch with his friends.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the school day to delight of all the children there. \"Alright! The weekend is upon us at last!\" proclaimed an excited Touji Suzuhara. \"Hey listen, I gotsa go visit my sis\'ta in tha hospital today, so I\'lls catch youse guys lata!\"
\"All right, see ya man!\" said Shinji and Kensuke as they waved to their jock friend.
\"Hey, I gotta go as well. There\'s a military program coming on that I don\'t wanna miss, so I\'ll see you later Shinji.\" Kensuke said to him, his face beaming at the prospect of the military show.
Shinji nodded and waved goodbye. \"Alright, bye Kensuke.\" As the otaku left, Shinji turned and saw Rei Ayanami, the first child, rising from her seat and gathering her bag. He felt his heart jump slightly at the sight of her and he gulped nervously as he approached her. She turned curiously towards him as she noticed him approaching. \"Ikari,\" she acknowledged in her quite voice.
\"Um, Ayanami, Misato said she wanted to talk to all three of us today, so she asked me to tell you to walk home with us today.\"
\"Very well Ikari,\" she nodded at him and followed him outside.
Shinji was silently grateful that Asuka had gone home ahead of them, because it gave him a chance to be with Ayanami, even if it was in awkward silence, and because he was sure he would hear no end to her bitching if she had been with them.
Before too long the two of them arrived at Misato\'s apartment. Inside Asuka was sitting on the couch sipping some soda and watching T.V. while Misato was sitting at the kitchen table downing another Yebisu. \"We\'re here,\" Shinji announced as him and Rei stepped into the apartment.
\"Bout time,\" growled the German girl. \"Since we\'re all here now, what was it you wanted to tell us that\'s so important Wonder Girl had to come here?\"
Misato entered the living room and sat down on the edge of the sofa. She regarded the three for a moment before answering, \"we\'re moving.\"
\"Moving? Why?\" asked Shinji.
\"This building is going to start undergoing renovations. Apparently some pipes and what not ruptured in the last attack and it\'s starting to cause problems, so the owner decided to just fix up the whole damn building. We\'ve been asked to move out within the next couple of days.\"
\"Well that sucks ass! But what does our moving have to do with Wonder Girl?\" demanded Asuka, obviously not happy with the current news.
\"Well, I\'ve been informed that Rei\'s apartment complex has finally been condemned. In light of that, she too is going to be moving. In addition, with things as they are lately the Commander has decided that none of the pilots should live alone anymore, so Rei is going to need a roommate, specifically a Nerv employee.\"
\"You... You don\'t mean she\'s going to be moving in with US do you!?\"
\"Now hold on a minute, I didn\'t say that Asuka!\" Misato growled in irritation. \"Fact is, there really isn\'t any apartments as large as ours available in the city anymore. Because of that we\'re going to be getting two separate two-person apartments.\"
\"But wait, that means...\" said Shinji, starting to put things together in his head.
\"That\'s right Shinji, you\'re going to be rooming with one of us. Specifically, you\'re going to be rooming with Rei.
\"But... Why can\'t I just room with you?\"
\"Are you kidding?\" voiced up Asuka, \"that would mean I\'d be rooming with Wonder Girl, and there\'s no way in hell I\'d ever do that! And before you even say anything, there\'s no way in hell I\'d ever room with you either you pervert!\"
\"That, Shinji, is why you\'ll be rooming with Rei.\" Misato smiled at him and then turned to Rei. \"Is this gonna be okay with you?\"
\"It is acceptable Major,\" the blue hair girl replied.
\"Good. Well, let\'s get started on packing up our stuff. The apartments are already furnished, so we don\'t need to worry about any of that, just our personal stuff.\"

A few hours later Shinji was standing in his new apartment. Since they didn\'t have to worry with furniture, it hadn\'t taken them too long to gather up all their things, and even less time for them to collect Rei\'s after they swung by her apartment. The new apartment that Shinji now shared with her was a bit more spacious then he had been led to believe, but it was definitely still a two-person home. It was fully furnished and had two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The only problem he had with it was it seemed the air conditioner was busted and didn\'t work right, so the apartment was a lot colder than he preferred, but he figured he could live with it.
Misato and Asuka\'s apartment was practically identical to his, with the exception of the A/C since theirs was working. Both apartments were in the same complex so they all lived close together, though Shinji and Rei\'s was a floor below Misato and Asuka\'s. Misato had told them that they were going to have a party to celebrate their move, but that they would wait until tomorrow so that everyone could get settled first.
Shinji sighed as he sat down on his couch. He could hear the sound of water running, indicating that Rei was taking a shower. He could tell that things were going to be extremely awkward for a while now. It had been hard enough living with Misato and Asuka, but now Rei? He leaned back and stared up at the ceiling as he thought back to the first time he went to Rei\'s and how she had walked around naked, completely unconcerned with him being there. He blushed at the memory and idly wondered if she was going to keep her habits now that she was rooming with him.
The sound of water flowing cut off and Rei stepped out of the shower and walked across the hall towards her room, completely nude. \"Guess not,\" he thought as he felt his blush burn brighter. After a minute Rei stepped out of her room dressed in her school uniform and she sat down next to him on the couch, placing her hands in her lap.
\"So, what do we do now Ikari?\" Rei\'s soft voice said, breaking the silence. \"I\'ve never had a roommate before, so I am unsure of what to do.\"
\"Well, actually, I\'m not really sure either Ayanami,\" he responded, suddenly feeling very nervous.
\"What do you mean? You have lived with Pilot Soryu and the Major for a while now.\"
\"Yeah but, we all just kind of did our own thing... I guess.\" He sighed and averted his gaze as he slipped his hands into his pockets. \"Aw man, she must think I\'m a total moron. If only... What\'s this in my pocket?\" He thumbed something inside his pants and withdrew his hand only to discover the movie tickets that Asuka had given him earlier. \"Say, Ayanami...\" he started, the tickets giving him an idea, \"do you want to go see a movie tonight? To celebrate being roommates that is... I guess.\"
\"A movie?\" She said, a little surprised by his question.
\"Yes, Asuka gave me these two tickets earlier today and I thought, well... I\'m sorry, it was a dumb idea. Forget it...\" He sighed in defeat and slumped his shoulders. \"God I\'m so pathetic...\" he thought miserably.
\"I\'ve never been to a movie before. It should be an interesting experience. I would enjoy going to see one with you Ikari.\"
\"You would?\" Shinji said in excitement, his mood suddenly brightening. \"That\'s great!\"
\"Yes. Going on a date with you to the movies shall be quite enjoyable.\"
\"Yea-... wait, what? A date?\"
\"That is what it is called when a man takes a woman to the movies, is it not?\" Rei inquired as she looked at him curiously.
\"Um... well, you see... it\'s not really, um...\" Shinji stammered, his face burning red. \"You see, we\'re not... Aw, screw it. Yeah, it\'s a date. I\'m taking you on a date.\" He sighed in defeat and gave her a shy smile.
\"Good. We should depart now if we are going to arrive on time for the film.\" She stood up and headed to the door and started putting on her shoes. Shinji rose from his position on the couch and joined her, opening the door for Rei to step through before shutting and locking it behind them.
\"You know Ayanami, I-\"
\"Rei,\" she interrupted.
\"What?\" he asked in confusion.
\"If we are now \'dating\', should we not refer to each other on a first name basis Shinji?\"
\"Um... yeah, I suppose so. Okay then, Rei, I\'m really glad that we\'re going to be roommates from now on.\"
\"As am I, Shinji,\" she said with a soft smile on her face that went unnoticed by the nervous pilot of Unit-01.

\"Did they take the bait?\" asked Misato from the couch in her new living room.
\"Yeah, they\'re leaving now. Good thing too, for a minute there I thought Shinji wouldn\'t ask her to go with him, but it seems he did,\" responded Asuka from outside as she looked down over the railing at the two people in question. \"Although, he probably only asked her to help clear the awkwardness he undoubtedly felt. Mein Gott what a loser.\"
\"Well, his reasoning aside, at least he did it.\" Misato smiled at the T.V. screen and took a long pull of her Yebisu. \"And I was really impressed with you, Asuka. You did a magnificent job of acting today. I doubt they suspected a thing!\" she congratulated her young ward as the girl came back inside the apartment and sat down next to her.
\"Well of course! I am the amazing Asuka Langley Soryu after all! And besides, those two are so clueless I doubt they\'d suspect a dump truck in their living room!\"
\"Hmm, I suppose. I just hope my addition to their apartment helps them get cozy together.\"
\"Addition? What\'d you do?\"
\"I went at their air conditioner with a hammer to make it permanently colder in their apartment. I also made sure they didn\'t have enough sheets. Nothing like a little shared body heat in a cold apartment to seal the deal, eh?\"
\"Nice! That was a great idea Misato!\" cheered the redhead as she gave Misato a small high five. \"You know,\" she said suddenly thoughtful, \"was any of that stuff you said earlier about renovating and what not true?\"
\"Not really. The owner was planning to renovate, but not till after the angel attacks were over. And Rei\'s old apartment was awfully close to being condemned, but nobody has actually done so yet,\" she said with a grin. She paused for a moment, her face becoming thoughtful, before continuing. \"The thing that most gets me though is what the Commander did.\"
\"Commander Ikari? He found out?\"
\"Yes, and I think I know why, but regardless he gave us full permission to take any steps necessary for our plan. Weird, huh?\"
\"That is strange. I wonder what\'s going on.\"
\"I don\'t know, but for some reason, I don\'t think it\'ll be a problem,\" Misato said reassuringly.
The two fell into a brief lapse of silence as they watched the T.V. in front of them. \"Misato,\" said Asuka after a minute or so, \"We\'re a couple of manipulative bitches, aren\'t we?\"
\"Oh, most definitely!\" confirmed the older woman.
\"Good,\" Asuka said with a broad smile.

Shinji gulped nervously as he and Rei arrived arm in arm at the theater. During the walk there she had taken his arm into hers, explaining that she had often seen dating couples do so and she thought it pertinent that they mimic the action. Shinji didn\'t complain in the least and happily agreed. They entered the building and Shinji purchased two drinks and a large bag of popcorn for them to share before entering the movie. When they went into the theater, Shinji was happy to find that there were very few people inside, and the two children found a good seat relatively close to the middle.
A scant few minutes after sitting down, the lights dimmed and the film began to play. Rei quickly became enraptured with the film, having never seen one before, and practically glued her eyes to the screen while she idly munched on the delicious popcorn, another commodity of life she had never tried before. Shinji was eating the popcorn as much as she was, but for a different reason. Every time they dug their hands into the bag, they would briefly touch, which created a warm feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Too soon, however, the bag was finished and Shinji was a bit disappointed that he wouldn\'t be able to touch Rei\'s hand anymore. That is until he felt her fingers softly entwined with his own. Startled by her action he looked at her, but all her attention was focused on the film. Shinji shrugged it off and settled back into his seat with an air of contentment, reveling in the feel of her soft warm hand wrapped around his own. If he hadn\'t chosen that moment to start watching the film, he would\'ve noticed Rei glance at him with a soft smile on her face.
Two hours later the credits began to roll and the children exited the theater and began the walk home. Shinji was surprised but happy to find that Rei\'s hand never left his own as they walked. \"So Rei,\" he started, deciding to break the silence, \"did you enjoy the movie?\"

\"No, that will be all,\" Gendo growled, still seething from his subordinate\'s outburst. He terminated the link and sat back in his chair. \"Perhaps I should rethink what I\'ve been doing lately...\"

\"And what\'s that supposed to me!\" The German growled menacingly.
\"Nothing!\" Misato said quickly, putting her hands up in defense.
\"Back on subject, I think we should do something to get those two to quit dawdling and finally get together!\"
A sly grin split Misato\'s face as the prospect sunk in. It had been a looong time since she\'d played matchmaker. Not since college in fact. While she didn\'t want to say anything to Asuka, the truth was that Misato had long been thinking of a way to pair up Shinji and Rei, but she had always been too worried of what the volatile redhead might do if she got involved. But... where to begin?\" He tapped his pen against his chin thoughtfully until his desk chimed, signaling a call. He turned to it and accepted, seeing the face of Ritsuko Akagi appear on the screen.
\"What do you need Doctor?\" He inquired of her.
\"Sir, I just received a call from Misato. Apparently her and the second child are planning on playing matchmaker with Rei and Shinji. You know what that\'ll mean to your scenario.\"
He looked at her face for a moment as the wheels in his head slowly turned, putting two and two together. \"This is it!\" he thought with glee. \"This is the perfect opportunity to start fixing everything! Make sure it happens, and tell the Major that she has my permission to take any measures necessary.\"
No words could ever hope to describe the look of shock that was on Akagi\'s face. It was an expression that Gendo would cherish for the rest of his life. \"Is there a problem Doctor?\" he calmly asked.
Ritsuko\'s mouth was hanging open and the poor woman looked like she was about to faint. \"But... I.... WHAT!? I thought the last thing we wanted was for the first and third to become romantically involved? Isn\'t it against the scenario sir?\"
\"The scenario has changed Doctor. I\'ll inform you of the details later. Now, is there anything else you need? I\'m very busy.\"
\"Uh, no... No, that\'s it.\" She said, still dumb struck from what the heartless Commander had just told her.
\"Good. I expect a full report of the first and thirds relationship.\" He canceled the connection and smiled to himself. \"Gendo you sly dog,\" he thought with an air of self-satisfaction. He turned back to his communicator and signaled for his second in command. \"Fuyutsuki,\" he said as the Sub-Commanders face appeared on the screen, \"report to my office immediately. We have plans to discuss.\" He cut the link when the older man nodded in affirmation. Gendo felt that things were about to get a whole lot better.

A few hours later Shinji was standing in his new apartment. Since they didn\'t have to worry with furniture, it hadn\'t taken them too long to gather up all their things, and even less time for them to collect Rei\'s after they swung by her apartment. \"Yes, and I think I know why, but regardless he gave us full permission to take any steps necessary for our plan. Weird, huh?\"
\"That is strange. I wonder what\'s going on.\"
\"I don\'t know, but for some reason, I don\'t think it\'ll be a problem,\" Misato said reassuringly.
