The Art of Courtly Love
“‘Love – amour - is derived from the word ‘hook’, amar, meaning ‘capture’ or
‘to be captured’,” Integral said aloud, holding up her book as she leant on
the pole behind her.
The fetid smell of the impaled did not disturb her sensibilities – the scent of
death had always stimulated her senses for what it meant- nor did she fear that
she would catch a disease. There was no life in Midian, not even a single fly
over the corpses; the haunting and the cold atmosphere kept everything with a
pulse away. There was only Integral, alone under Maxwell’s rotting cadaver, her
blue bag and book collection aside her.
“For he who loves is caught in the chains
of desire and wishes to catch another with his hook…” she continued, easing
the cravat on her neck. It felt more like a summer afternoon than one of May.
“So I am like the fisherman trying to bait and ensnare everlasting attachment?”
Integral put the book down and looked up to the source of the voice. She had
heard the stallion approaching in her direction, but she had ignored it
purposefully. Alucard, the Count Dracula was over the decomposing horse,
wearing his dark armour, wild hair shielding his expression. “De arte
honeste amandi by Andreas Capellanus,” he read from the cover of the second
volume resting beside her. “Brings memories to mind.”
“You recommended it to me to read when I was thirteen,” Integral reminded him
with a smirk. “I am attempting to re-acquaint myself with forgotten knowledge.”
“Forgotten, Countess? Were all our experiences fortunate coincidences?” He
asked, letting go to a frightening laugh that echoed throughout the empty city.
He did not move from his mount; the animal scratched the ruined pavement,
shattering it. “I return to you, my Master, to inform you that there is no
enemy left on the island. All is as you ordered. You expected as much, for I
see that you are dressed as befitting my welcome.”
Integral’s smile curled up, deepening; she was pleased with Alucard's report
and his acknowledgment of her different attire. She was wearing her
shirt and a long black skirt instead of her trouser suit. She was aware of
conventions, of the play they had reinforced throughout a decade - one that was
coming to an end.
“As the Lady of a dead No Man's Land - of Midian,
according to Her Majesty and the Twelve Conventions, it would be pointless to
play the knight, for there is nothing here to protect…” she admitted, weariness
present in her voice, a bitter ring of loss. “Not anymore.” After London had been reduced to a pile
of ashes and scrap, no one had wanted to live in the accursed Capital. There
were no plans to rebuild it.
“A kingdom of the dead: Midian, city of the damned,” Alucard pointed out, his
red eyes glowing, studying her for a moment. “Seras Victoria left, didn’t she?”
“She and her Wild Geese departed this morning for France,” Integral sighed,
pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. She was starting to miss the
mercenaries and the Police Girl; staying only with his soul army and watching
them doing housework to replace her personnel had only furthered her unease.
“She promised to return to visit when the group would not need her as much.”
She shot him an accusing look. “Seras still has troubles speaking to me with a
straight face after that stunt, a week ago.”
“With Walter gone, she should have been aware of our Affaire de Cœur, as
her mercenary would have called it,” Alucard pointed out, unapologetically.
“You wanted to tell her.”
“You should have first spoken to her about our liaison, rather than exhibited
it. You should have consulted me first before granting her entrance to my
chambers when we were lying nude beneath the blankets.”
“The child has to learn the games that adults would play, and what better
instructors than her surrogate parents?” Alucard asked, smirking widely.
Integral merely scoffed in response. He was unbelievably fresh when it came to
this particular private issue.
“Don’t throw the blame on me. It was her choice to enter, her own curiosity led
her there. Seras must have suspected everything since the very beginning,
Countess,” Alucard chuckled lightly. “A vampire's senses are sharp enough to
detect the scent of our lips…” Integral felt the breeze caress her mouth,
phantom lips covering them; she pressed her eyes closed for a brief moment.
‘The lips I tasted when you turned eighteen,’ his voice resounded like a
rough purr inside her mind. She snapped her eyes open as he continued.
“Or the distinct change in the smell of our bodies after the trip to Rio de
Janeiro,” he added. The breeze left her lips in favour of sliding inside her
clothes, going through shirt and travelling down. She shivered, gasping in
response to the wind cooling her breasts, tickling her bare abdomen, about to
reach her inner thighs - where it stopped.
‘The body that has warmed mine for less than a year…’
Her skirt was lifted, fluttering in the wind that was covering her body,
caressing the line between her entrance and her inner thighs. “Count,” she
murmured, fighting the wind with her hands, tempted to give in to the spell.
“This is not the-”
“My Master protests?” Alucard asked, spurring his horse to circle her. She
followed his path between the forest encompassing her impaled foes. “We have
waited so long, suffered in our longing… and you have chosen this setting. You were waiting. You asked your
Queen for her blessing,” he pointed out, his tone like a dark whisper near her
ear. He felt so close, despite his distance, felt like he was breathing on her
neck. But she would not allow him the upper hand in such reactions - Integral
was the Master, the dominant one, after all.
“Perhaps I am testing you, Count,” Integral retorted, tying her cravat,
buttoning the lose collar. “I have accepted your service as my knight when we
met, then your kisses, and finally I granted you permission to sleep bare at my
side after such a striking war declaration in Brazil… but, even if you
dedicated the war victory to me, are you worthy of love? Are you worthy of an
end to the courtship we have pursued for a decade?” she interrogated slyly,
gesturing at the dead Maxwell. “You offered me a great… high stemmed bouquet of
many dead, but are you deserving of my affection, won in the final stage?”
“For we hardly ever see a valiant man who does not or has not loved,” Alucard
quoted sultrily, and Integral was satisfied to notice his face was contorted
with lust, his eyes lied closed. Suffering led to want; she was feeling aroused
already by the idea of a possible consummation. She felt warmer and warmer, though
the day was vanishing into night, the temperature growing colder still. “All I
am and all that I do are yours, my Master. And all you have is because of me.”
“But have you ‘love’ to give completely, fully and devoutly to me?” Integral
wondered. His pace over the horse stopped and remained still. She smirked,
satisfied, and started to recite the rules for courtly loving. “Thou shalt
avoid avarice like the deadly pestilence and shalt embrace its opposite.”
“Was I ever greedy, Master? Ten years of patience, five years of service for a
kiss,” Alucard said pleadingly, panting now. Integral took a step forward, a
small one, not yet passing Enrico’s tomb.
“Thou shalt keep thyself chaste for the sake of her whom thou lovest.”
“No noblewoman or man has had either my affections or my attentions. In all
these decades you have been the only one,” Alucard declared. “And you have
returned the favour.”
Integral inclined her head in agreement and appreciation of the game they were
playing, of the jealousy they felt if anyone got close to the other. “Thou
shalt not knowingly strive to break up a correct love affair that someone else
is engaged in.”
“Have I?” Alucard asked, grinning toothily, Integral shook her head, skipping a
beat as she forfeited another step forward.
“Thou shalt not choose for thy love anyone whom a natural sense of shame
forbids thee to marry,” Integral recited, staring at him seriously. Alucard
dismounted his stallion, bowing to her at a distance. She knew the answer
already, and this knowledge forced her to take another step towards him.
“Be mindful to completely avoid falsehood,” Integral cited les she had
studied from memory, taking steps as soon as she was rewarded with the replies.
Her Count no longer had to make excuses, she was aware of his answers. “Thou
shalt not have many who know of thy love affair…”
“Being obedient in all things to the commands of ladies, thou shalt
ever strive to ally thyself to the service of Love,” Alucard said, before
she could utter the rule. Integral stopped and watched him approach. It was her
turn to hunger in anticipation.
“In giving and receiving love's solaces, let modesty be ever present.”
Her hands were anxious, wanting to undo her cravat again, to unbutton her shirt
completely, to expose herself in front of him – but they did not. She stood her
ground, watching her servant, her knight in shining armour as he walked towards
her, speaking the rules of their engagement. The suffering of the waiting would
bear the fruits, it was as great an aphrodisiac as waging battle.
“Thou shalt speak no evil. Thou shalt not be a revealer of love affairs.”
Integral lifted an inquiring brow to those last issues. He stopped briefly.
“There is no evil when such love and the lady. And there is no revealer when
another party knows.” She nodded and gestured that he should continue. She
would have shouted to him that he should stop playing around and hurry, but
that would hardly have been “courtly” and abiding to their agreement.
“Thou shalt be in all things polite and courteous,” Alucard pointed out,
and she huffed. He laughed unceremoniously and then vanished, appearing right
in front of her, kneeling with a dramatic flourish of his cloak.
“In practicing the solaces of love, thou shalt not exceed the desires of thy
lover,” he said at last, bowing his head to her in completely submission.
He had started the courtship and now it was within her power to decide whether
or not to continue it. Her body would not forgive her if she denied him.
Integral removed the glove from her right hand, sliding it off her digits very
slowly, brushing the cloth on her skin before letting it fall at her feet.
There was a thrill spreading into her system – she felt like standing bare in
the battlefield. She extended her hand, offering it to her Count, her knight,
her servant, her lover. “Love doesn’t exist within the boundaries of marriage,
according to those books.”
Alucard straightened enough to meet her gaze, his lust matching her
anticipation. Images of different positions invaded her mind, enticing her to
choose. “Those were other times, Countess, these are now different
circumstances,” the vampire assured her as he gently spread her fingers apart.
Integral felt her entrance moisten when he bent to lick the soft flesh between
her digits, the tip of his tongue tickling a promise there – of pleasure, of
pain, of power. ‘Keep this forever, let me prickle you with my everlasting
hook.’
His words rumbled inside her abdomen, stirring the nerves that had not yet
awoken; she even blushed at how his speech, his request had affected her. “It’s
within the duty of the Countess of Midian to take you as a companion,” she
murmured, keeping herself still and looming. He was huge beneath her, savage
and tame to her desires.
So be it, Integral thought, closing
her eyes before Alucard sank his hungry teeth in the flesh he had been kissing
a moment ago. She did not move, so great were the pain and pleasure that
overwhelmed her mind. She was still rational enough to realize that if she
allowed herself to retire her hand a little, she might lose a finger or two due
to the shark-like multiple fangs of her groom. In the meantime, her arousal
grew, nipples hardened, her legs trembled to maintain her balance in the
onslaught of rapture. She wanted her clothes off - they were sinful to keep, a
barrier between their bodies.
“Count!” Integral cried out, desperate for more. His arms wrapped around her
waist, pulling her to him. He had stood immediately to comply to her wishes,
and she was aware that he could tell what she wanted, he could smell it.
Alucard bent to kiss her lips - blood in his mouth, then in her own – giving
her the sloppiest of his kisses. She bit his tongue, drawing his blood,
completing the wedding as his hands tore her shirt apart. It fell to the ground
in tatters, leaving only the sleeves and the padded shoulders. “That wasn’t
very courtly of you,” she breathed in his mouth, breaking the kiss with a
playful smile.
“We are wedded now,” Alucard replied, licking the blood off a side of her
mouth. “This is the time for passion, not courtesy.” He lifted her and pulled
her backwards roughly, his shadows undertaking the delicate endeavour of
destroying her brassiere, knickers and part of her skirt.
Finally…Integral thought as her back
hit the end of the pole in which Maxwell had been plunged. “Vlad Ţepes
impales again,” she jested, rising her legs and locking her arms around his
neck while he moved his hands beneath her buttocks, holding her firmly over
him. She was frustrated by the fact that her tender flesh only met the cold
armour that bruised her.
“I don’t hate the moniker as much when you employ it, Integra,” Alucard stated,
inhaling the sweat on her left cheek, his facial hair brushing against her
chin. “I barely touched you and you are more than ready,” he murmured.
“Ten bloody years, vampire,” Integral hissed, nibbling his beard. “Stop the
waiting already, the suffering stopped being arousing after you stripped me.”
Alucard laughed, kissing her neck, drawing all his fangs over the pounding
pulse point, inducing a flux of extra lubrication in her entrance.
”And mistress, I beseech you, in
easing of my poor heart that sometime was at my rule, which is now at yours,
that in as short time as can be I will have knowledge of your intent,” Alucard declared, quoting his mediocre medieval prose.
He was torturing her, Integral knew, a revenge for the prolonged courtship –
and she had no wanting to play games of wit while her body demanded its due
pleasure.
“Your mistress wants your poor heart to reserve courtesy in your foreplay,”
Integral replied, insinuating herself on his breaches, careful not to cut
herself with the edges of the armour. He was ready for her, she could feel the
hidden bulge. “Unless you want her to-”
Integral muffled a shriek at the sudden thrust, arched her back in pain, fought
her tears while blood streaked her thighs and dripped to the floor. She gritted
her teeth and clenched her jaw tightly. The lower part of Alucard’s armour was
gone along with his breaches – with one push, he had consummated their union.
“…t-take it o-out,” Integral finished, her breathing shortened and her
agitation having increased considerably. The pain was almost clouding the
former pleasure. She dug her nails in the back of his head in owing to that
unexpected action.
Alucard paused in his thrust halfway, nosing her cheek possessively. “Should I
take it out, Integra?” he asked, sardonically, crushing the weight of his cloth
on her breasts, pinning her further on the stake behind her. She calmed her
panting, forcing herself to the pleasure to come and ignore the pain. She had
wanted this. Biting his lips, she commanded:
“Nay, now I ache for you in a different way, Count.”
He gave her a nod of approval and moved his hips up, his fingernails cutting into
her buttocks, his mouth striking down into her neck. Integral cried out, the
swoon of his bite making her forget the pain of adjusting to his size. She
bashed her head on the pole lightly, rolling her eyes up while he sucked her
blood.
‘Let me show you pain, Countess, while you can experiment it,’ Alucard
spoke into her mind, continuing his brutal tempo. ‘Pleasure and pain, you
are aching for it all. The suffering, the waiting…’
“Yesss…” Integral hissed, starting to buckle in order to match his thrusts.
It was difficult for her to move, her mind was fogged by the lasting sensations
he provoked. Neither did the chosen position aid in her participation. He did
not cease drinking her blood, pressing her lower part firmly to himself,
bringing her further close in order to increase the penetration angle. She
pulled his hair roughly, whimpering as her inner walls finally adjusted to him
completely.
Her heart was beating so fast, the drumming in her ears was driving her insane
– more so the brief rubbing of his icy flesh within her warm clitoris. Integral
sought the caress into the sensitive spot but she was too weak, too tired to
accomplish the feat. The pain and pleasure were starting to fade, she was
fighting to breathe, to keep her eyes open and her legs and arms locked against
him. But it was to no avail, her limbs released Alucard’s body, and he would
not stop the frenzy of their mating. The true feeling of him inside her came
with her last breath.
Once awake, Integral grunted, gasping for air. Her lungs were heavy and
breathing was troublesome. The spasms of the transformation were almost over,
and so she could push away her shock. She opened her eyes, trying to adjust to
her new sense of sight. Her glasses were broken near her feet, some shards
prickled her left talon. It was dark already, the full moon was partly covered
by the clouds above her. She turned to stare at Alucard. His face was contorted
by pleasure; her gaze travelled down to realize that he was still pounding
inside her.
“What the hell are you doing?” Integral demanded, barely noticing his efforts.
They tickled and that made her chuckle.
“What does it look like?” Alucard growled, nosing her jaw. “Working out ten
years’ worth of sexual frustration.”
Integral scolded and pressed her head to his temple, inhaling his scent. Blood.
She was so hungry, a bloodless doll. Alucard rose his gaze to catch her eyes,
understanding her craving. He tilted his head after a particularly deep thrust,
baring his neck. She dipped down, her teeth shifting to sharp fangs that struck
into his artery, leeching away the precious red liquid. She sucked and nibbled
for more, the blood splashing in her mouth, and she kept drinking, recovering
her strength, wearing down the numbness. She yearned for pleasure now, power
and control.
Her arms came to his chest, and her legs wrapped around his waist with
strangulating strength. A growl escaped her throat as she kept drinking his
blood, taking his might as her own. Integral Hellsing swung forward, pushing
Alucard to the ground while he was lost in her bite, pinning him on the cold
cement. Her knees and legs cracked loudly in the impact but then regenerated
swiftly with the aid of his powerful blood. She landed smoothly sheathed on top
of him, feeling his head prodding her cervix.
“Countess…” he moaned obscenely, licking the shell of her ear.
This is the time of our passion, not
courtesy, Vlad, Integral replied mentally, tearing a piece of flesh out of
his neck when she leaned off, blood splattering her breasts, droplets dripping
on her hard nipples. He tried to bend and lick them away, but she held him
down, straddling him firmly. Her hands clawed his armour, taking it out piece
by piece, and she rocked her hips, swinging her legs to his sides to allow
herself better movement.
“Yes, Countess…” Alucard said obediently. Had he purred that? Her mind was
playing tricks with her senses. There was blood on his mouth, the wounds she
had inflicted him.
Integral increased her rhythm, sensing his jerking cease beneath her in a gesture
that would allow her full control over their lovemaking. Alucard groaned as her
nails dug into his left breast, seeking the entrails of his dead heart. He gave
it to her, to her intents. She wanted to taste it, to taste a piece of that
which belonged to her. His hands rested on her buttocks, beckoning them to come
down, faster, deeper. She complied, taking away any remains of the frustrating
ten year wait that she had endured.
“I took it out upon your request!” Integral announced triumphantly, throwing
her head backwards, frenetic in her pleasure. Her right hand had plunged deep
into his left side and snagged his dead heart – but her spoils immediately
liquefied into a black substance that poured inside his open wound, intending
to heal it; she was left with only a rosy bit as small as a seed.
“Will the lady eat the Pomegranate seed to become invincible? To rule the
underworld as she does Midian?” Alucard offered, his jaw tightening in response
to one of her purposefully insidious motions. She smiled down towards him
before eating the piece of his cold flesh. It burnt like fire on her throat,
fuelling her passion, tempting her to pass over the edge.
“I am eating your wings, Bird of Hermes. You who have pulled me to the
underworld instead of rescuing me from its grasp,” Integral declared, feeling
his nails dig into her skin as a result of the tension she built within him. He
was unable to cut her fully - she had the power, she had the wings of both.
“Let it be perfect,” she said, licking her bloodied lips as the intoxicating
effect of his flesh passed. “The Forbidden Fruit was delicious.”
Alucard’s response was caught between a growl and a moan. Integral was
satisfied by it. Spreading her arms wide, she buckled down over him one last
time, her eyes flashing from blue to feline red as she inhaled the smell of
death around them, their kingdom of impaled foes. Unlike him, she did not cry
out when she reached her climax; her victory that of a maiden of steel - silent
and quiet even in her gloating.
Arching her back, Integral collapsed against his chest, kissing his cheek
gently in near apology for her violence. Alucard was panting, affected by her
Amazon display, still ejaculating against her thigh. The wind was warm and
wrapped around their bodies, cooling them now after the heated act. She rolled
over to his side, facing him, lying over her elbow, wondering when the soreness
would start.
“Count,” Integral spoke before him, toying with his curly hair, tickling his
beard. Her head was light, relinquishing any remorse in the aftermath of the
consummation.
“Yes, Countess?”
“Your Lady is famished. You should open the kingdom for visitors - whatever
vermin is unwanted in other kingdoms may come.”
“As you wish,” Alucard inclined his head, caressing the line of her waist and
hip.
“And hand me the bag near my books,” she waved towards her belongings before
tearing apart the last remains of her shirt and skirt. “I brought a change of
clothes. I knew the last stage would be everything but courtly,” she admitted,
biting a laugh at Alucard’s mocking look of indignation. “You will still have
to court me, don’t let the flame be consumed to nothingness.”
“We won’t, and yet…” Alucard agreed, reluctantly standing to search her bag.
“Let us take less than ten years next time.”
